I always just go cities. I love gold and development and that is where cities excel. Temples are the second-best because they give you gold and levies. Castles are just pointless. I couldn't care less about levies so the only thing they provide is my enemies needing to siege more. But I never have issues with defeating the AI in war so I do not need to build castles.

Playing in the Duchy of Manding, built the two gold mines and have just adopted clan (I think it's the Muslim version of feudal).
Now have excess gold and a ton of space to build some new holdings, shall I build castles, cities or mosques?
