I am a little brown bat. Also *god,* the mourning doves are freaking everywhere where I live. At almost any moment I can look out the window and see one.
they’re so dumb, their alarm coo when they get surprised and flap away is so stupidly cute
they’re not my favorite birds or anything but I do love them
I’m a longnose gar, but I have something to add to the Red-Tailed Hawk:
Secretly fighting a guerrilla war against alien invaders with the help of his friends, also the secret son of a different alien
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 303,688,759 comments, and only 68,045 of them were in alphabetical order.
Fun fact: that intense eagle screech sound in movies/TV is actually a red-tailed hawk's cry! Bald eagles have much more chirpy vocalizations and sound honestly not dissimilar to sea gulls.
I volunteered at a local science center taking care of the local animals they had in tanks for kids to learn about. The tiger salamanders were the bane of my existence. See, they’re incredibly stupid, but also require extremely moist substrate. Like, pouring in half a gallon of water and mixing it up in gloves hands moist. Problem is, as soon as you opened the lid, they were CONVINCED they were being fed and absolutely certain that your fingers were the food. So they’d be constantly trying to bite me while I tried to mix up the substrate. Now I’m sure I wouldn’t care that much, having a leopard gecko that’s crunched on my fingers a couple times, but back then I was definitely intimidated.
I was surprised roly polies would be native to america but (possibly unreliable?) sources say they were introduced from Europe.
Greater surprise tho that mourning doves actually are american. Before this I would have sworn that waking up on a weekend and hearing one oowowoooowooo on top of your house would be an experience in europe too
