As long as you pay/ take care of your fine, you should be fine. Don’t let it turn into a warrant, because if you do get arrested it could be worse. Just pay and you’ll be good

forever___dreaming

It won’t affect your DACA application if/when they start processing them again.

PaisaRacks

You should be fine as long as you don’t get arrested and booked. From my understanding, with the new law the police in Georgia are required to inform the feds when undocumented immigrants are arrested. My family ( most of us undocumented) has been living in Georgia for over a decade. My mom has gotten 2 driving without license tickets and never had any serious problems, but I feel like that’s starting to change. My mom has expressed concern to the point where she has made up her mind about returning to Mexico within 2 years. Really sucks , do your best to stay out of trouble and don’t drive unless you absolutely have to.

Emergency-Bowler1963

Yeah but you also have an option of just moving to like a immigrant friendly state. Maybe California

Tiesonthewall

'Just move' really isn't an easy solution or as accessible as it may seem. CT is also a very immigrant friendly state though.

Crp212x

I disagree, you’re really only losing more time and $ staying somewhere that isn’t good for you

ibnfu

I mean California is immigrant friendly but the cost of living is really high when compared to other states. Not the best option for everyone

Crp212x

There’s a dozen states that allow DL, california is just one of them

Mental-Collection300

Is ct Connecticut? Please elaborate why we should move there?

Tiesonthewall

Yes! It's pretty liberal in terms of politics, you can get insurance and a license in our state. Also college and healthcare (I think).

PaisaRacks

Unfortunately my family can’t afford to, I help them anyway I can but it’s impossible to take care of me and my wife and the rest of my family. I wish i was rich and could take the load off my family.

abreathofpepper

Surprisingly Connecticut is just as immigrant friendly as cali or nyc. My mom is completely illegal but has a license and works off books as a elder caretaker after getting her certificate. Not a perfect life but she can afford a lot of things and isnt always in fear! Less expensive than cali and nyc too (when she first came to America she lived in nyc for 15 years)

Crp212x

I’m sure you can piece something together, in the long run, you’ll be better off moving

vanbaby94

My mom and I have decided the same. In two years she wants to go back because she is scared

IndependentDonut2651

Not an all, unfortunately unless you live in a walkable city that is what you have to do.

haveheart41

The same thing happened to me, I had DACA and drove without a license ( I was too lazy to get it). I went to court and paid the fine, and that was it.

Emergency-Appeal-544

Same.

zygomaticuz

I got a ticket many moons ago for a red light violation. I did have a DL at the time but I still needed to go to court. The judge told us all (if we were immigrants) not to plead guilty because it could affect you for immigration purposes in the future — to plead “no contest” instead which is saying that you don’t declare yourself guilty but you also know the state has enough evidence to find you guilty should you go to trial.

javierthhh

If they didn’t take your car then they did you a huge favor. That’s the worst thing that can happen. Other than that then you’ll have to pay the no license fee when you get to court.

TimeWizard90

You should be okay just pay the fine, I was pulled over a lot before I had DACA, I had tickets and fines. Never had an issue.

themeofes

You drove without DL and you were not arrested? just ticket? Anyway same thing happened to me before I had DACA and I was even arrested but it didn't affect anything when I first applied for DACA. Of course I did go to court and paid fine.

Scriptapaloosa

It’s in officers discretion. It is considered an arrest bc you get a mandatory court appearance. It’s the same as getting a criminal speedy ticket (over certain speed). Most times they don’t arrest you if you’re acting nice.

themeofes

Didn't know that. I wasn't even speeding and was pulled over for dark window tint.

Scriptapaloosa

First thing first: get an attorney. Explain to him that the most important thing is that you’re an undocumented and need to get the least of the charges. Do not cheap out! Attorneys can negotiate. A ticket doesn’t really affect your legal status. If this is your first time they can really give you a break. Do not turn this into an arrest-able offense, then you screwed. Secondly, why would you risk it by breaking the law? Why would you run a red light? That’s pure stupid. And finally, why don’t you get a DL in one of those 20 states that give a DL to undocumented? Virginia does and is not far. Just establish residence there.

Timely_Ad43

Hey man, thanks for reaching out. Thanks for the info! And yes it is very stupid but hey that’s how ya learn, thanks for your wisdom and opinion.

Psychological_Key942

You gotta be careful with these, make sure you get it taken care of. I got a ticket for not having my updated registration sticker on my tag, got it fixed, signed off by an officer, and paid the fix fee. Fast forward to me trying to renew my license, and I had a Failure to appear. I resent them the pdf scan of the signed off ticket and it fixed it. But it’s tricky lol.

JuniorrH2O

Definitely hire an attorney asap, I live in Ga too and the state laws are different from other states. A lot of people in the chat don't live here so they won't be able to tell you what exactly goes on here. Most judges will sent you to jail for no license and you don't want that especially if you know what goes on after you get arrested without any documentation. Hire an attorney as soon as you can he/she can better guide you in what to do to avoid risking yourself going to jail.

Timely_Ad43

Thanks for reaching out, and thanks for putting your perspective especially since you’re from the A aswell. Thanks!

Last-Usual6063

I was once undocumented and was pulled over for driving without a license, insurance and an unregistered car.. I thought my life was over back then (17 years old) but luckily it wasn’t, all I had to do was pay the $2000 ticket fine pay the $400 impound fine and that was it. Since I had no socials security # then it never went on my record. Fast forward a year later when I was applying for daca. I applied as if nothing ever happened and was approved. I should also mention this was all in California best state ever for immigrants 😮‍💨😊

Crp212x

Just plead no contest and pay the fine. Then immediately after, move your life to a state where you CAN get a license. It’s the second best thing to having a valid ssn. For people that say they can’t just up and move their lives, just know it wouldn’t be the first time.

Timely_Ad43

Dang, such a cold line at the end ✍🏽

AndThenThereWas_1

Same thing happened to me when I was in high school, but I couldn’t get a driver’s license at the time due to AZ laws. I just had to do community service though, but it never had any impact on my DACA renewals.

ItsSem

Individuals in the state of Georgia who are charged with driving without a license are faced with misdemeanor offenses that can result in up to twelve months in jail or a one thousand dollar fine. It may be worth getting a lawyer that way you avoid the worst case scenario of a 12 month sentence turning into an immigration nightmare. In most states you wouldn’t have to worry much, but GA for some reason can be extreme with No DL charges.

Infinite_Net_5075

Just pay bro

louisthedo-nothing

Just pay your ticket. Lucky the local jurisdiction didn't hold you for ice.

OldAssDreamer

Just pay the fine and move on. In bigger cities nobody seems to care. In a small southern town you may have been arrested and things would have ended badly.

CAAMx

You’ll be ok dude. Just pay the ticket. If you din’t want the point or the ticket I. Your record call “The Ticket Clinic” they charge you $99 to take your case and they’ll convince to the judge to let you pay the fine without getting points or the ticket in your record.

FirmAd910

idk the law in atlanta but in Washington state it’s only a traffic citation if you get pulled over and don’t have a license and you show your id or expired license, but if you get pulled over with out a license like i mean that you don’t have a drivers license not that you left it at home and don’t show your id or other form of old drivers license it’s a criminal charge you just have to look at the official code of georgia (ocga) but if it’s in that case i would talk to a lawyer cause i think that’s a misdemeanor, but if you talk to a lawyer i think you can talk to him about defer adjudication

Obvious_Shock_6667

It’s a misdemeanor, you should be fine just take care of it , get your license you could get the whole thing dismissed that’s what happened to me and I’m in the same boat as you . I actually didn’t even get my license just my permit and they saw that I put an effort into fixing the error and lowered my fines. You will go to traffic court and appear in front of a judge but they’re not going to know you’re undocumented that’s a whole different court , you won’t be the only one either there will be a room full of other drivers that also committed tickets , its a little scary at first but as long as you show up and present yourself it won’t even go on your record since you have no license. Just get your permit and take the L , they’re going to ask you are you guilty or not guilty, if you say not guilty then they will give you another court date and another trial , if you own up to it and say guilty then it’s just a misdemeanor that’s totally fine when applying for daca or citizenship , as long as you aren’t a convicted felon you should be alright .

aHorseOnE85

Why don’t you just move to a state where you can get license, Atlanta lame af anyway

Sea_Wealth2149

Come to Cali. You and your family can all rent a house together by pitching in for rent. Worst comes to worst, you all have to rent rooms in the same city (so that you guys live close by to each other) and slowly save up money to afford a house rent. Being in immigrant friendly states is a big relief and helps from all the other bullshit we have to deal with.

Mental-Collection300

Try to get a Mexican license, in some states like here in az they treat it the same as an American license. You still can’t fly, greyhound ect. Or get pass checkpoints. But you can drive like normal.

Apprehensive_Pay4621

I have a lot of tickets that I’m paying I’m fine

HorrorThrillers

Bum

Timely_Ad43

How’s dating in bentonville going? Are those apps doing the trick for you?

GulfCoasting_

What are you going to do if/when you get into a car accident and injure someone? Just ride out?

Timely_Ad43

Ofc not, I’m going to stay there until police arrive. It’s the right thing to do!

williamh24076

liability (auto) insurance ?

Crp212x

Often times you can’t get it if you don’t have a license
