MonkeMayne

He auditioned for Riddler and ended up getting the role for one of the biggest villains in any visual medium. They must have really liked his tape lol. I like the internal description of their Joker. A bit charming and a bit hurt. But his aesthetics need a revamp. I hope they just go with the traditional bleached skin/chemical vat bath. It’s hard to be charming when you’re hard to look at.

TheLionsblood

I think they’re sticking with the design they have, but bear in mind he’s not able to wear his clown makeup yet because he’s in Arkham.

MonkeMayne

Yeah but I mean, he has pale skin/red lips/green hair. So idk, they also technically didn’t show Joker in the movie so I think they left wiggle room for themselves.

TheLionsblood

His skin is not that pale and his lips are not that red. Reeves also called him a proto-Joker. I think he will will definitely wear makeup to accentuate the clown look.

MonkeMayne

Lol wym, his skin is like Leto’s before the change and his lips are pretty red. Not bright red but much more red than a normal person. The natural green hair is a thing too. I don’t think they had makeup in mind for this guy. But yeah they did say he is not Joker quite yet.

TheLionsblood

I don’t think his skin was actually that pale, there was just a really bright light on him. And that’s why I said “accentuate” his clown look.

AccurateAce

Disagree with the sentiment. Based on how he's written and how he appears, he isn't supposed to be charming. Neither was Ledger, Leto, or Joaquin. From what Reeves has stated, his deformity, or congenital disease, is integral to how he views the world. He's meant to be a mixture of Joseph Merrick and The Man Who Laughs, but with an incredible sense of criminal psychology (Based on how easily he was able to easily deduce who the riddler was) and intelligence. Not only that, but how he's trying to psychologically torture Batman while interrogates him. He finds it amusing as he's trying to get under his skin. Personally, I'd rather see someone replace Leto (Dafoe) and don the pale skin. Someone like Willem Dafoe doesn't require prosthetics or much embellishments. But, I am absolutely looking forward to Barry's Joker and think he fits quite well in that universe.

MonkeMayne

I mean you can disagree, but Keoghan himself said he’s supposed to be “charming and a bit hurt”. Which is a good description for Joker. We also only saw him for 5 minutes in a deleted scene. Much less in the actual cut of the film.

AccurateAce

Fair retort. Must've glanced over that despite reading it. Guess it'll depend on how you interpret charming. I don't believe you necessarily have to be "good looking" to be charming. There are plenty of psychopathic serial/killers that I wouldn't necessarily call conventionally "good looking". Quite the opposite, in fact. It's more about how they weave a person around their finger with skill rather than looks. Looks certainly don't hurt, but I don't also think it's required. As we know, in some stories Joker tells a tragic tale about his upbringing and origins to garner sympathy from Quinn. On top of that, depending on the artist, Joker was physically deformed by the ace chemicals which distorted his features.

Deafwindow

I don't know about your last sentence, Quasimodo seemed to be quite charming even with a deformity

MonkeMayne

But he was a kind and gentle soul so it works. Even then people in his story treated him like shit because of his deformities. For a psycho to be charming, they gotta kinda be easy on the eyes. Look at Ted Bundy for example. People always felt something off and unnerving about him, but since he was good looking and charming they kinda brushed it off.

walktheline232

So where he is all this 10 years

TheLionsblood

I’d say that’s more than just a consolation prize lol. Keoghan is a phenomenal actor, I can’t wait to see more of him in the role.

starshipandcoffee

> “I wanted to be Riddler,” Keoghan says. A clip of Keoghan’s audition for *The Batman* has existed publicly on the internet for three years, but barely anyone has seen it. In the clip, an elevator opens to Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre” and out steps Keoghan dressed in a black shirt and shoes, trousers held up by green suspenders. His Riddler wears a bowler hat, carries a cane and wears dark Alex DeLarge eyeliner. He slowly struts down the corridor, eyeballing doors like prey lies behind each one, before turning a corner and re-emerging, grinning, a bloody handprint struck across his cheek, when the clip cuts to black. > > Keoghan’s unsolicited audition – created simply because he heard the film was happening and he wanted to be a part of it – initially proved fruitless. When he met the film’s producer, Dylan Clark, the role of Riddler had been filled, at that point by Jonah Hill and later by Paul Dano. He asked Clark to watch it anyway. > > For four months, he heard nothing. Then a call came in from his agent while he was having dinner with a friend in New York. They’d seen the tape, his agent said. “*The Batman* wants you to play the Joker – but you cannot tell anyone.” Keoghan’s Joker is a man made from his own experiences, both “a bit charming and a bit hurt”. Beneath heavy prosthetics that make him look like a maniac run through a meat grinder, Keoghan insisted his blue eyes stayed the same. “I wanted some sort of human in there behind the makeup,” he says. “I want people to relate to him… \[to know\] this is a façade he puts on.” The character is, to Keoghan, “a broken-down boy”. > > Keoghan only appears in *The Batman*’s final moments, guarded by corrugated bars of a jail cell. But a deleted scene featuring Keoghan released online has been viewed more than 10 million times. Recently, Keoghan texted Reeves a listicle that rated the best Jokers put to screen. “There were seven and I was number four,” he says, grinning. “Lads, with four minutes of screen time, not bad eh!?” > > Keoghan has not yet been invited back for a sequel but the character, kept under wraps and revealed only when audiences finally saw it in theatres, feels like the set-up of something bigger. “As soon as that call comes,” he insists, “I’m there man, I’m there.”

bat447

Any chance where I can find the tape

starshipandcoffee

I posted it on the sub yesterday - [here you are](https://old.reddit.com/r/DCEUleaks/comments/xukp0k/barry_keoghans_2019_audition_tape_for_riddler_in/).

bob1689321

I won't lie I did think he was a *terrible* Joker, much too slow speaking and dramatic. I'd prefer someone a little more upbeat and would play off Bruce's thing well. The dialogue was not good either.

Ethanonbass2019

Reminds me of the story of Sean Youn bursting into Tim Burton's office to play Catwoman. Guess it worked out for Barry

starshipandcoffee

Whilst Pfeiffer was perfect for the role, Sean Young would have made for a fine Catwoman. Her appearance on the [*Joan Rivers Show*](https://youtu.be/ZGNtGke9c8Y?t=250) was remarkable, to say the least.

Ethanonbass2019

Oh yeah, honestly I don't think Michelle's been beaten. Sean would've been great honestly.... suppose she just wasn't what Tim was after

GregMcCarthyIRL99

I know that people are divided on this interpretation of Joker but I really like it. I really enjoyed the deleted scene and I can understand why it was taken out but there is some awesome chemistry there. It's a different take all right and I like thst because with the character being so iconic, with it winning two Oscars even... You have to do something very different to stand out. I really hope he stays in the background for the next film. If Arkham gets made I'd like to see more and then maybe have him out and causing mayhem in the final film of the trilogy. Yeah he done to death, but he is the quintessential and perfect Batman villain and I hope we get a good battle of wits between them eventually. But for sure, let others shine before then. Also being from Dublin and seeing Barry go from Love/Hate (seriously any people into crime dramas... This is Dublin's Sopranos/The Wire. And they used a few genuine criminals in small roles too. I was in jail with one when his parts were on telly! ) to this is really cool and he is a great actor with so much potential... His role in Killing of A Sacred Deer was INCREDIBLE! And even though he had a small role in Chernobyl it really stood out. It will be interesting to see what Reeves cooks up for his look... Like we've got the noir gangster, the lamé gold jackets and tattoos of Leto, the gritty purples of Ledger and reddish take for Jaoquin... I really can't wait to see what they create for this version. Especially in such a grounded and subdued take on the universe.

BeerBellyBlake

🎯

atheoncrutch

And then he told his brother lol

aeplusjay

So happy for him, but I do hope that the Joker isn't the major antagonist in the trilogy. Let him be the "Hannibal Lecter-esque" character in Arkham who Battinson may sometime consult.

Satean12

I am still a bit mixed on those scenes, I wouldn't mind a classic Joker in the near future tbh.

RefrigeratorPerfect

For real. Lol

MistaNostalgia

He just told us tho

feedmeshituntiliidie

The movie's been out for a while now.

MistaNostalgia

Woosh

Fangasgaf

I love Barry as an actor. He is, however; my least favourite interpretation of the Joker at this point in time. His jaw looked like an obvious prosthetic and the scarred look they went for took away from the character for me. I am aware Jared Leto exists. In my head he is Jason Todd.

HEAVEN_OR_HECK

Seriously my only upset coming off the whole film. I had high hopes for Keoghan since his casting leaked here, but the make-up and his performance just left no impression on me, which was quietly crushing. It felt like a waste all over, but I hope for better on all fronts in future installments.

FlamingTrollz

###’The Wildness of Barry’ Man, I forget all these stupid puff-piece bits of nonsense… …These magazines do over celebrities. ###Playing Pretend Persons. Like that time Miles Teller made an ass of himself.

cgcego

There were rumors that the director was unhappy with him and the proper joker will be someone else going forward. I am genuinely curious to see what happens.

Specialist_Can_4874

Honestly if that was true, they wouldn’t of released that deleted scene

cgcego

That seems logical but the rumor was so out-of-left-field that I would bet money there’s truth behind it. We’ll see.

ItZSAMIC

How much money? I’ll take you up on this

cgcego

A pizza.

ItZSAMIC

How much does that cost and what is your PayPal?

MonkeMayne

I don’t think they were confident on the looks. Otherwise they would have found a way to put the deleted scene in.

LegoRacers3

If he wasn’t happy with him, he easily could have left his scene out of the movie, as it’s not necessary at all. And like the other person said, not release the deleted scene.

RefrigeratorPerfect

There are no such rumours detailing what you just said about Matt Reeves being “unhappy with him.” Lmao

cgcego

there definitely were. It was in one of the old “strange adventures in the mod queue”.

RefrigeratorPerfect

I’m not familiar? Do you have links?

DeppStepp

They are referring to claim 1 in [August’s SAITMQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCEUleaks/comments/wosu0n/saitmq_august_22_edition_behold_the_might_of/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

RefrigeratorPerfect

The link also includes the leaker saying the “Penguin show is definitely dead” so I think it’s safe to assume that the Joker thing is false.

RohitTheDasher

We all know the credibility of it.

mr_antman85

Why are they doing the Joker again? It's like they're not confident in any other Batman villain.

snowgrin

confidence has nothing to do with it, the joker is arguably batman's most important villain, expect to see him in 99% of batman media.

mr_antman85

They aren't confident. If you have to eventually come back to the Joker it shows that you don't even want to try.

United-Aside-6104

You’re acting like Joker stole the spotlight in the movie when the movie focused on Falcone Penguin and Riddler Joker was in the movie for less than a minute and Reeves stated he doesn’t even know if Joker will be in the sequel

mr_antman85

> Reeves stated he doesn’t even know if Joker will be in the sequel He's going to be there because they don't know how to do any other villains.

United-Aside-6104

This is a 3 hour movie that focuses on 3 other villains and Selina showing that Joker just exists isn’t admitting they don’t know how to use other villains

mr_antman85

They don't if they're bringing the joker back. Batman has one of the best rogue galleries. Why do they always have to bring in the joker? That's my point, which somehow got ignored. There can be a trilogy made where the joker doesn't show up, right?

United-Aside-6104

You’re acting like if Joker even shows up for 1 second Reeves is legally not allowed to use any other villain ever he’s already explicitly said he’s interested in Freeze

mr_antman85

My point is that whenever Batman movies are made, the joker will be there. Batman has way more rogues than simply the joker. To me (if you disagree fine) the joker is a crutch because they can't make other villains work as well.

United-Aside-6104

Where did I say Batman doesn’t have other villains than the Joker when I literally listed 5 other villains? BTAS also includes the Joker but you wouldn’t argue they use him as a crutch cause he has episodes dedicated to him There’s so many Batman stories that have the joker but also several other villains there’s literally nothing stopping the second movie from using multiple villains like the first movie did

HumbleCamel9022

The most terrible joker cast ever Congratulations

neon_sin

Can't believe Baam himself wanted him to play Joker
