now there's a story to tell the new kid. "well, there used to be a window there in what was my office.. then we decided to have you and that all changed. it was a nice window." my dad for years would tall my older brother about the corvette he didn't buy "because your mother became pregnant with you".
Wow, what a great idea for the scaffolding. I have been putting off some ceiling popcorn removal and paint in my 2 story foyer that this looks would solve my woes. Any detail you can provide on putting that together?
The 1/2 inch pipe keeps the 4x4s attached to the wall.

Then I placed these over the pipes and used Simpson sheer screws to secure it e the plywood to the 4x4s. This, not the pipe, is what supports your weight.

Probably, scaffolding is more expensive than you might expect for rental. Plus you can leave the wood up for a month and go at your own pace and not have to pay any more for that.
Nicely done! I had a similar window from our master bedroom to the living room and the guest bedroom too.
What I didn’t realize when we closed them up was that the return air path for those rooms was significantly blocked now and they don’t regulate their temperature as well now.
I don’t really have room for a return duct so I am just forced to live with it. It’s better than the open windows, but it definitely creates unexpected issues.
Read the title as “How To” not “Had To” and confused myself as I scrolled through the photos. I thought to myself, man it looks like you’re doing a great job for asking how to do it! Lmao. It’s too early still.
As someone who grew up with a window from their bedroom to the living room, thank you for closing that up. Every damn noise from the kitchen and living room could be heard in my room. Who wants internal windows?
I think he means light from the nursery outside windows into the living room. Might make that corner of the living room a little darker, but if that's not an issue for you then great!
You're supposed to do the easy side right away so the baby has a room. The other side wait until they are old enough to help.
lol I don’t think the wife could wait that long!
Just keep having kids every couple years and she’ll stay distracted.
Or two in the same year, like a buddy of mine.
Eire Twins
Now that you bring that up, my buddy does have some ginger in his beard...
What about the wife?
Since he's been *in* her, I guess she's got some ginger in her as well...
Here I am just trying to ask questions about your friend’s wife’s beard and you had to go and make it awkward.
I deflected because you're asking details about my friend's wife's beard, which is super awkward. 🤣🤣🤣
Tell her you'll get to it she doesn't need to remind you every 6 months
I love the way you think!!!!!!!
Damn kids stealing our offices
lol seriously
That now need to be utilized more due to the 50% increase in kid budget.
I lost 2 offices to kids. Building a third office in the basement now.
Cut to the chase and paint the new office a soft pastel color and make your desk chair a rocking chair.
Go hybrid office and kids room?

We are DINKs who purchased a house from a family and converted a couple kids rooms back to offices. So, there is hope in the war against kids.
Great work looks good man
Thank you good sir
I love that scaffolding trick, definitely going to borrow it.
Agreed! how was the base stabalized?
“Leaning” staging is old, and great. There a few convienient, efficient designs I’ve used.
Part of me is now looking for a project just so I can try to build the scaffolding. Definitely cool.

Awesome! Thank you so much!
My just leaving a comment here so I can come back to this. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I've been dreading renting scaffolding. This I can do!
Cool scaffolding build, was it cheaper than renting one?
That’s a good question. Didn’t even consider renting.

Great job, Bro. You puttyed and painted it very well, it feels like this window was never here.
Thanks man!
These interior walls don't need insulation, correct? Outside of perhaps a sound barrier?
No. You could have put rockwool in for soundproofing but it’s not an issue. Nice job though
Thanks!
I don’t see why they would, but I definitely built it without even thinking about insulation….
Depending on what’s on the other side of the nursery, I could see a lot of benefits to soundproofing the wall to keep sleeping babies sleeping
Also makes it much easier to ignore the baby /s
You’re thinking about the toddler phase (wish I could say /s lol)
Heat transfer into the room too. It’s gonna be a bit warmer without insulation blocking the sun/heat from the lower level
I have opposite concern: does the room have venting to support closing that space.
It’s has a window and an hvac vent
What was the purpose of the opening between rooms if it has a second egress?
If it has a windows it has venting. Just open the window if moisture ever becomes a problem. Or make a hole through the outer wall
Was thinking more about HVAC getting room air overpressure under the door, but sure, that too.
Crazy that you can drywall this good but cannot handle cord management lol.
lol yep

Interesting, 🤞🏽nothing too unexpected happens
That opening should never have existed in the first place. What a terrible design idea.
Agreed
I definitely would’ve just put a poster over it Shawshank style.

Tv too high. Jk Enjoy being a dad!
With a side of tilt of guilt. Welcome to fatherhood!
As someone who grew up with a window from their bedroom to the living room, thank you for closing that up. Every damn noise from the kitchen and living room could be heard in my room. Who wants internal windows?
Seems like curtains would have been nearly as effective and give you the option to open it for more light?
The nursery has a window that gets plenty of light
I think he means light from the nursery outside windows into the living room. Might make that corner of the living room a little darker, but if that's not an issue for you then great!
I have never seen a window installed in a wall like this before
I'm sitting right next to one going from our second floor office to our living room. Funnily, it's the only double glazed window in the house.
That’s fantastic
I’ve seen that setup a few times. It’s a pain (for the installer who has to set up scaffolding like that) when the window breaks.
It’s usually to provide a second point of egress for safety
Really great job, well done! May I ask what you’re planning to do with the wall space now? It’s very large/high!
That’s a great question. We have no idea
That vent is in a really weird place. You should frame it like it's art.
I’d love to see more of how the scaffolding was put together

Thank you!
Very nice job, OP!
Thanks!
Well done
Thanks!
Why did you have to close off the window that doesn’t make any sense
Wow a nursery with vaulted ceilings…
The vaulted ceiling is on the living room side
Ahhh! My bad. Still a very nice job!!
Wait till you lose kids and have multiple offices and one day this will mean nothing...
