Felt tape worked for ours.

Jay_Stranger

That’s a good idea! I’ll try that

Raegnarr

You can by insulated tape at any hardware store, a thing one will do

awmartian

Where is the rattle? If its between the wall and panel use foam strips. If its the screws use rubber washer.

Crumpledstiltscan

Assuming you can loosen the panel, you might try foam strips with adhesive on 1 side ($10 at home Depot or similar) around the edge of the panel. A photo of what the panel edge looks like would help. Also, double check the source is indeed the panel itself. Does the noise stop if you put your hand on it? Extraneous home noises are annoying... Good luck.

Jay_Stranger

Yes it’s from the panel. I’ve dealt with it for years and last night was a particularly annoying night when I was trying to sleep and decided I’ve had enough. When I put my hand on it, it stops. I often smack the shit out of it so it adjusts slightly so it stops. I believe it comes from the excessive paint on the wall and it just rumbles slightly so it constantly creates this horrific tapping sound. I plan on purchasing some stuff tomorrow!

Vast_Character311

Priest? Or maybe some foam between the wall and cover to dampen vibration.

_beetus_juice_

Priest Vito Cornelius?

BornStellar97

No. Priest Cornholio ![gif](giphy|14lmZqrvyVhZ04|downsized)

_beetus_juice_

The almighty cornholiooooooo

BornStellar97

Wololo!

stefnmarc

I would remove it and slightly twist it so it’s not completely flat then fasten it back on tightly

Boeinggoing737

Pilot. Have stayed in hotels for more nights than my own bed for years and this looks like a unit used in hotel rooms. I would use paper coasters to stop rattles by wedging them around the side. If this is a long term thing felt tape, caulk, or remove the panel and see where you can drive self tapping screws to secure it better.

Low-Feature-3973

just fold up a piece of paper and stick it in the edge. You just want it tight so it stops vibrating. (Foam tape for long term, paper for sort term.)

rocketmn69_

Put the missing screw back on?

Jay_Stranger

There is no missing screw. Not sure what the middle hole is, but I’ve checked and there is nothing behind it or even a way to screw anything in. The two screws are basically latches that you use a flathead to turn.

areyouentirelysure

Put back the third screw to the hole where it belongs.

Jay_Stranger

As I said in the post. Those two screws are latches that you use a flathead to turn. That little hole leads to nothing and you wouldn’t be able to screw anything into if you wanted to.

TicTac_No

The first thing to try is to place washers between the fastener and panel. Next would be to add washers between the panel and wall. If neither of the above works, then you'll need some type of gasket between panel edges and wall.

The_bald_inspector

Foam ear plugs in corners.

iRamHer

Felt. Make a thin gasket out of silicone caulk, run a clean bead, let it dry at least some if not all the way, so it doesn't completely compress. Or get caulk tape, rubber tape, or anything really.

kezinchara

I’d just shove a piece of folded paper underneath the bottom part so nobody could see it.

tbrumleve

Foam / felt tape

thecoynemyster

I had a very similar set up in an old apartment and literally drove myself crazy trying to put felt pads on the door. Turns out the panel/door wasn't the issue, it was the air handler (whatever you call it) inside the closet-- apartment maintenance showed up after I reached wits end and gave them a call, tightened a few bolts inside, and the rattle never came back. Just my experience.

EngragedOrphan

I fix all rattling with cardboard shims that I cut out. There is a lot of material you could use, but I am to lazy to buy it, and I have so much cardboard, So why not?

randomname10131013

Fold up some paper, and jam it in to one side.

Mediocre_Breakfast34

Weather stripping

JmoneyBS

Caulking. Fills the gaps and creates a better hold on the edges.

Jay_Stranger

Can’t do that because this is where I change the filter for my ac

Eldalai

if you take the panel off, run a bead of caulk around the edge and let it dry, it will do the same thing as the felt tape. really just depends on what you have on-hand.

FirmDate1762

Little caulking around the edge and you’re good to go
