We would bring the cable in at the top of the new frame and down in the reveal. Double sided tape the box onto the frame. No need to drill holes at all.

That's a great plan, let's hope the chap doing it tomorrow is up for it!

Could the router move temporarily into the room above? If you drilled the wall at about the same height as the outside alarm box? (but still near the gutter downpipe)

H00pSk1p

That will be plan be after trying to get it on the outside of the frame.

zweite_mann

I'd just take it through the window upstairs, slap your master socket on it then plug the router directly into it. Should do you until they come to fit the fibre.

You need to phone openreach and get them to shift it. If it's behind the master socket it is their property. They can get quite shirty with people moving their equipment. If ever you have a fault in the future and they see its not an openreach junction box (I think this one is a 22a fwiw, but ive not worked in comms for a while) they'll charge you £200 straight off the bat.

H00pSk1p

I see your point but they are coming in two weeks to install the cable for fibre so wonder if they will care. The last time a guy from open reach came along he said we should just get fibre and remove that junk, his words.

ssttuueeyy

Apologies, I didn't see the bit about the fibre. If you can survive with no internet your best bet would be just leave it coiled up on the outside of the house. If you can't survive without you could drill through the wall upstairs, pull the cable through and move the socket but this is stepping into tampering with the equipment territory and unless you have a long drill bit and a punchdown tool it may be more trouble than it's worth

H00pSk1p

Just to say that the door installer was happy to put this off until after 10th July and so we dodged the issue. Thanks for all of your input.

Hello! Yes that is likely the cable for your satellite broadband. Thread it through the letterbox. Otherwise, not sure what you're expecting. If you don't want to drill a hole to thread the cable, the cable can't go through! No point putting a load of effort into a temporary solution in my opinion too. I'd suggest just getting rid of it now and using phone data as it's just a few weeks? Does the same cable feed your phone or TV?

H00pSk1p

I was hoping that it might be able to be threaded around the door frame but accept that might not be likely. With open reach coming in a couple of weeks then you might be right to just rely on data until then.

Jathomas96

My apologies, I didn't think about wether you'd be charged for the damage. Maybe give them a call first and mention the new door! I'm sure they'd be fine with it being re routed or cut to be replaced with the fiber.
