Tell them you are a lighting and sound technician. Some companies don't want to cover DJs because of reputation.

zigzrx

I have branched into a Dj business but still am finalizing things, till then I am running my insurance and payments through my IT/Technician business. I have been invoicing my mobile gigs as a "Sound and Lighting Tech Service". Same thing as you say?

BadDaditude

For insurance, basically. In the US they go by SIC codes, so it can fall within the same code classification (so it's covered the same way) but be called something different so it gets through underwriting. Apparently, SOME DJs are reprobate drug users and miscreants. They give the insurers pause to cover them.

This is smart. Thank you

[https://www.djinsuranceinminutes.com/](https://www.djinsuranceinminutes.com/) ...I paid \~$220 for 1 year of liability... they have other options too though. Found them through adja.org

RV nuccio is who I used when I needed equipment coverage ( inland Marine is what it's called for some bizarre reason), but I think they also do gl coverage which is all I'd have if I didn't have 20k of gear to insure.

Yeah that's not uncommon. You can't get insurance for high risk activities, you typically have to self insure. That's not RV Nuccios problem, that's just the laws of averages. For example, I was hired to do a pool party at a college apartment complex, and they wanted me to also provide bubble cannons. I was unable to get an insurance rider from anyone for that event, so I proposed that the complex guarantee my equipment and take on any liability. We then negotiated to "I'll cover my own equipment, you cover any bodily injury and all the bubble cannon gear I rent" etc. insurance is all about managing risk. It's for the unlikely event something happens, not the guaranteed event something is going to happen.

CobolCoder1983

The 2 million is for public liability. You can add on equipment insurance but it won't cover theft unless the equipment is locked away when you're not there. Most policies are the same.

fuzzy812

I’ve used insurancecanopy.com

Impossible-Fault-855

have you had any issues with canopy?

fuzzy812

Nope. It has all been pretty good

Impossible-Fault-855

Nice! Have you ever had to file a claim?

fuzzy812

I haven’t yet. But I don’t think it would be an issue. YMMV?

EddieCutlass

Get renters/home owners insurance. Never claim you’re a dj…just cover your personal items.

ItzMonklee

I already have renters / home owners insurance. If something were to happen could I just claim it happened in my apartment?

EddieCutlass

I’m not saying yes, but I’m not saying no 😉
