I often wonder what life would be like as a parking lot attendant. Probably a lot more often than I would have without this song. Today the job would be replaced by a QR code, so, bullet dogged I guess 🤷
That was my sister’s senior quote and she is sadly no longer with us, her life was short but sweet for certain. Thank you for making me smile just then 🙂
My quote was from the Lillywhite Sessions ‘captain’, “crazy as I may make my way through this world, oh it’s for no one but me to say what direction I should turn in now.” Still proud of the quote over 22 years later.
I graduated in 2000. Was a punk rock kid in a punk rock band, but loved Dave too. As a drummer, how could you not?
But my yearbook quote was a song title by a band called saves the day. The quote was “always ten feet tall”. But, me being a good student, I reckoned I needed to source my quote. So, under my mug in the yearbook, it says “always ten feet tall - saves the day”. Still bothers me.
That being said, I ended up getting the lyrics to PNP tattooed on my leg. So, what’s in a yearbook quote anyway?
Come sister, my brother
Shake up your bones, shake up your feet
I'm saying open up and let the rain come flooding in
Wash out this tired notion that the best is yet to come
But while you're dancing on the ground
Don't think of when you're gone
I was going to use one, but then I heard that this girl who I didn’t like was using one, and I felt like I couldn’t because people would think I was copying her or something. Idiot. So I should have just used one. I had been thinking, “I find sometimes it’s easy to be myself, sometimes I find it’s better to be somebody else.”
I graduated in 2002 and my senior quote was "Could I have been anyone other than me?" There were so many good choices and looking back mine seems a little cheesy. But I think I would have a hard time picking one today too!
Graduated in 2001. Used Grey Street lyrics, "take what you can from your dreams, make them real as anything"
A special trivia note is that Grey Street wasn't officially released when I graduated but part of the lillywhite sessions.
It wasn't a Senior quote, but my theme song my last year of college was "Oh my god... wait and see... what will soon become of me".
Dave is honestly the only reason I went to college. Around 2001 I heard all these people at his shows talk about how many shows they are going to in one summer and I knew if I could get through college and graduation, I'd be able to see DMB any time any where. I did and I have. So Damn Lucky and so f greatful!!
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves
Wondering if we have spent our remaining days
Well, I can't believe that would lie in our graves
Dreaming of things that we might have been, could've been.
This year marks 20 years from my HS graduation, some devil was still new. I chose from Dodo
This little game, where nothing is sure, why would you play by the rules?
The Riff is full of so many damn good quotes for such an underrated song.
Funny how time slips away
Looking at the cracks creeping across my face
I remember the little kid living in here
He'll be living in here probably until I'm dead
I only got a minute or two to spare
And I got a whole damn life to fit in there
So why waste time, staring at the TV set
Like I got dreams to kill and people to forget
You stay with me well baby, you and me we'll change the game
“Turns out not where but who you're with that really matters”.
Also mine, said in my vows on my wedding day too
My senior quote in 1999 was from Two Step. But now I believe this is the one I'd go with.
This was mine, and I'm happy for it.
This was my senior quote from 1996
"The future is no place to place your better days." Cry Freedom
Easy, the theme song to my life: Could I Have Been Anyone Other Than Me? (Dancing Nancies)
I often wonder what life would be like as a parking lot attendant. Probably a lot more often than I would have without this song. Today the job would be replaced by a QR code, so, bullet dogged I guess 🤷
That was mine too!
I like my coffee with toast and jelly...
What I would give to see Ms. Brown’s soul piercing glare after reading that full quote 🙏🏻
…but I’d rather be licking you from your back to your belly 🎶
“Turns out not where but who you're with that really matters”
That would be one of my do overs for sure
My best friend did this one! Love It
Don't lose the dreams inside your head They'll only be there til you're dead
“I’m only this far, and only tomorrow leads the way.”
Got this one as a tat 🤘
Me too!
I used two step! This was in 2006, “Celebrate we will, life is short but sweet for certain. We climb on two by two to be sure these days continue”
That was my sister’s senior quote and she is sadly no longer with us, her life was short but sweet for certain. Thank you for making me smile just then 🙂
🫶
That was my senior quote too
Same in ‘02!
*Unintelligible wailing* - Halloween
41. I will go in this way and find my own way out.
Same
This was mine in ‘05
I was an 04 grad!
06 for me. Wouldn’t change it at all!
“Spinning on the wind, a leaf fell from a limb — but every day should be a good day to die.”
Mine was “there’s bad times but that’s okay just look for the love in it”
I had the same exact one in 2002.
2015 🫡
YOU GOT LOVE DON'T TURN IT DOWN TURN IT LOUD LET IT BUILD WE GOT A LONG WAY TO GO BUT YOU GOTTA START SOMEWHERE
The future is no place to place your better days.
“Leroi Moore on the sax-o-phone”
Wow. And this. Ty central park. Thank you leroy
CARTER BEAUFORD ON THE DRUMS!!! CARTER BEAUFORD ON THE DRUMS!!! CARTER BEAUFORD ON THE DRUMS!!!
My quote was from the Lillywhite Sessions ‘captain’, “crazy as I may make my way through this world, oh it’s for no one but me to say what direction I should turn in now.” Still proud of the quote over 22 years later.
My license plate!!
I used Grey Street for my senior quote: take what you can from your dreams make them as real as anything
A portion of this is a biblical quote but I’d go with “eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die”
"I will go in this way and find my own way out"

It all comes down to nothing.
2003 grad here. Mine was- “Would you not like to be sitting on top of the world with your legs hanging free?”
"I tripped so hard, I forgot where I was" - Dave Matthews 6.28.24
I think he said “who he was”
I heard where too.

Mine (2007) was “if at all God’s gaze upon us falls, it is with a mischievous grin” and I still wouldn’t change it!
Look at him
Come sister, my brother Shake up your bones, shake up your feet I'm saying open up and let the rain come flooding in Wash out this tired notion that the best is yet to come But while you're dancing on the ground Don't think of when you're gone
Love
What more is there?
I will give you water, if you will share your wine And I will feed your heart, if you promise to feed mine
I used this as part of my proposal to my wife back in 1999.
Chills
I was going to use one, but then I heard that this girl who I didn’t like was using one, and I felt like I couldn’t because people would think I was copying her or something. Idiot. So I should have just used one. I had been thinking, “I find sometimes it’s easy to be myself, sometimes I find it’s better to be somebody else.”
“Celebrate we will, cause life is sweet for certain.”
Eat drink and be merry…!
Come and relax now, leave your troubles down, no need to bear the wait of your worries just let them fall away!
I did use Dave as my senior quote! "I'll go in this way, and I'll find my own way out"
Mine was “Laughing out loud makes it all alright.” If I had to do it today, I’d probably pick this one again.
"Seek up an emotion, and your cup is overflowing"
I graduated in 2002 and my senior quote was "Could I have been anyone other than me?" There were so many good choices and looking back mine seems a little cheesy. But I think I would have a hard time picking one today too!

“What’s the use in worrying, what’s the use in hurrying?”
I wish I had used "Forever dancing with the Groogrux king." But that wasn't an option back then.
I wish we didn't HAVE to use those words. I miss Roi so God damn much.
It wasn't a Senior quote, but my theme song my last year of college was "Oh my god... wait and see... what will soon become of me". Dave is honestly the only reason I went to college. Shocked no one has said this, it’s usually one of the most common answers: “I shall miss this thing when it all rolls by”
Mine was not a Dave quote, but could have been "don't spill grapefruit juice on your placemats" shrooms and microdot days
I mean honestly that’s pretty good advice. You really shouldn’t be spilling grapefruit juice on your placemats 🤷🏼♂️
I did this too!
Change is like a vacation.
“This I admit seems so good, hard to believe an end to it” was mine
Gravedigger when you dig my grave make it shallow so I can hear the rain.
"Open up my head and let me out"
“Bury the past… for I don’t want to pay”
“You ain’t never had my cornbread”
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves Wondering if we have spent our remaining days Well, I can't believe that would lie in our graves Dreaming of things that we might have been, could've been.
“Eat, drink, & be merry, for tomorrow we’ll die.”
“Let me the fuck out of here!” -OLF Two Step Intro
My actual yearbook quote was “Life is short but sweet for certain.” Now it would probably be “I will go in this way and find my own way out.”
Someone in my 8th grade yearbook had a Dave quote typo-ed by the editor. Her quote read “I’m only this fat and only tomorrow leads my way.” Poor girl.
Life is short, but sweet for certain
