It's normal

SunOfBeachx

Would it not spread to other parts? Seems quite bad for a brand new car

ExcelGuroo

No, anything that has iron and is exposed to the air will rust. The level of iron and the exposure will determine the rust rate. This is perfectly normal for brakes but if you have rust paranoia then I would start getting PPF paint protection film and the underside sealed because we use salt to grit the roads so the underside will feel it

I mean … that part is prone to surface rust, it’s not a stainless part and can’t even be protected with anything to not corrode. What do you think would happen in a week of your car standing on the parking lot even if the discs looked like taken from the box when you get the car? The cars are transported from the factory, probably they sit in a lot before they are transported, thry sit on another lot before distributed to dealership. It corrodes. It’s not exclusive to Dacia, but it’s everycar phenomenon. I suggest you don’t look at other parts under the car then - if this makes you uneasy. I guarantee you there are rusty parts under your Dacia and that they were rusty even in the car salon. Some car brands spraypaint certain parts of the underbody black to look “new” when people get the new car. Most of that paint flakes off within a year or two and is mostly cosmetic, showroom finish. It serves no rust protection purpose. The paint isn’t even ‘designed’ to not wear off because if rust began developing under a solid paint, it could become a problem. Sometines the parts are just chemically or temperature blued to black, which is just a form of oxidising the surface (rust is also oxidisation). They eventually (soon) develop surface rust. As long as it’s surface rust it isn’t a problem. You need to take care of your car, especially in winter and wash the undercarriage if they salt the roads where you live. And that’s that, not much ekse you can do apart from accepting that certain surfaces will start developing rust as soon as they exit the assembly line. Most underbody protections do not hold or they even create bigger problems if any rust is covered by it. Or if the sprayed-on protection is chipped by a small stone and water (or salt) comes under that. *That* creates a problematic corrosion. Surface rust is a given and unproblematic. But disks will absplutely *always* and very fast get covered by surface rust. Observe them if you don’t drive for two weeks and you get some rain at the beginning of that period how the shiny part of the disk that contacts the pads gets covered with rust. Edit: sorry for the lenghty rant. I just felt people don’t realise that their cars have parts that have surface rust from the beginning and that other parts will very soon develop it and that it’s normal.

No, it may leave dust if you brake hard but it’ll wash away

UniCandidate

That is absolutely normal and nothing to worry about! The reason they aren't protected from rust as well as other parts is because the coating would affect the friction material on the pads and the thermal efficiency of the discs. You only have to worry when the rust is VERY BAD on the "face" of the discs. By VERY BAD I mean metal flaking off the disc itself You will see rust on the face of the disc too if the car sits for a few days or if it's been raining. Apart from being a little noisy when you first drive it'll clear off. If you have any more questions please ask and I'll try to answer

Ambassador-Strange

c'mon, it's your first car? have a look at any brand, even premium brands, with time comes the rust :)

Witty_Syrup923

It normal dont worry

Haedine

Normal behaviour. Also the rear drum brakes will have a similar rust, so I suggest to coat them with thermal brake paint.

". Is this something I need to worry about? " Not realy, after several years with heavy corrosion maybe, but you might geht them replaced earlier anyway. Change the oil after 1000km, and then at least all 15.000km, the long intervals will kill the timing chain. Several Parts under the car will get surface rust pretty soon. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKkwD6GOKog&app=desktop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKkwD6GOKog&app=desktop) Not a problem, but doenst look good, black Hammerite or other anti-corrosion Color will fix this. If youre afraid of Rust and live in a Zone with a lot of Salt in the winter, invest in some additional rust proofing of the car trough a shop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2Fr8wv-yh8 The car is expensive enough to be worth it.

KernunQc7

Minor surface oxidation. Disc looks fine, nothing to worry about.

RodB1968

I’m thinking this is your first car? To put your mind at rest a lot of brake and suspension components aren’t painted and gradually rust over the years. Perfectly normal and nothing to worry about unless it’s very old and flaking. With the brake discs the only part to be concerned about is the faces that the pads make contact with. Leave it sitting a few days or even one shower of rain you will see rust that disappears after a few braking applications. If they get too pitted with corrosion though they would need changed. Normally they’re worn out before that becomes an issue.

Just_Introduction273

Its normal, it was the case on my VW SUV too, I have the same on the Duster. What model you got ?
