This made me chuckle

Soporrific

What could possibly go wrong?

Myke190

They could run into a rogue Titanic.

asmoothbrain

Or Kate Winslet could show up and claim there is only room for her on the iceberg

machogrande2

Worse. Celine Dion could climb up on their ice and start singing.

uXN7AuRPF6fa

Whelp, death it is.

Nuggzulla01

Lol I'll never let go... Of that massive hole in the plot

ItsSpaghettiLee2112

That's not what a plot hole is. I'm not sure if you mean the fact that Jack could have fit on the board or that she says she'll "never let go" but then let's go but it's debatable if Jack could have actually fit on the board *and* it stay afloat and even if he could, it would just mean she's being an asshole which isn't a plot hole. If you mean the never let go thing, she meant of the memories they formed in their brief coexistence. We make fun of that scene because it was dumb, not because it was a plot hole.

Kitteneater1996

Yeah it irks me when people do that. Like, did you (people, not you specifically lol) not watch when they both tried to get on it and it started flipping and sinking? Does everyone just forget that??

ItsSpaghettiLee2112

I honestly did forget that but to my defense I was like 7 when I saw it in theaters.

FlanOfAttack

I've never seen it, but I tried to float down a creek on a raft made out of plywood when I was 10 and learned some quick lessons about buoyancy and displacement.

sennbat

My friends go swimming in water thats below freezing at least once a year and have for decades as part of a regular, formal tradition lots of people do, so I don't think "heart couldn't handle it" is true of everyone in every condition. I've definitely heard of people getting hypothermia if they're slow about getting to shelter or warmth after a cold swim, and people drowning from the unexpected cold water shock disorienting them or otherwise leading to them breathing in water or quickly exhausting themselves, but not heart failure.

makwabear

I would assume it was from the cold shock. I’m a good swimmer and almost drowned once from that. I remember my heart going crazy so if you can’t get out and manage to keep swimming I could see that happening.

Advantagecp1

> My friends go swimming in water thats below freezing... Where are they finding this supercooled water?

sennbat

Its called the ocean, mate. Also, I mispoke, I meant to say "when its below freezing" - the actual water temp is usually closer to 40 degrees past the surface, but the surface can get down to 30 on calm days.

cjsv7657

Polar plunges are normal events that people do. 50F is above the usual temperature. He very likely had some condition or extenuating circumstance that lead to his death.

southernwx

Some condition… just spitballing here… but maybe his heart couldn’t handle it? …

AyKayAllDay47

Never know, maybe it'll pull up right by their house and wish them a good afternoon. Sometimes it pays off to have fresh water in the backseat of the ride....

Igotthisnameguys

All jokes aside, they might be in trouble. If they can't make the jump, they'll land in almost freezing water, which might send their bodies into shock.

lllIllllIlllllIIIIII

You bought the ticket, now ride the ride.

Shower_Slug

-This is our life now.

Severe-Analyst1207

Yes, please do not try. Man in Missouri died trying to ride ice.

Common-Ad6470

Is it a thing to ‘ride’ ice? Seems pretty dumb to be honest.

Severe-Analyst1207

No it isn’t. This was a copy cat case. He saw something online and decided to try it.

DisastrousAcshin

Guys I've got an idea...

nclrieder

Yeah, cold water shock plus fast current is a good way to drown. I hope they made it but damn that’s a rough spot to be in.

cortesoft

Most of the reasons are just variations on a theme

PNW_lifer1

You mean rafting in a block of ice on a river that breaking up could possibly go wrong? These guys are complete morons, all it takes is for a build up downstream and them to get knocked into the river then slip under. Then you are fucking dead no matter what you do.

Tango-Turtle

Russians...

Not necessarily an idea.

Yeah, those see through lake skating videos I've seen a lot recently and people freaking out about? Safe, and super super fun (assuming someone checked the thickness). This? Dangerous as can be.

doubled2319888

Fellow Canadian here who once fell into a frozen pool. Its fucking terrifying and if i wasnt a fairly strong guy and a really good swimmer then i may have died in that pool

guiltysnark

Damn, salt like that's going to speed-melt the ice

Aloqi

Any Canadian would tell you this is a good way to die for no reason.

rwblue4u

On an aside, at some point during this affair somebody more than likely said "HEY, YOU KNOW WOULD BE COOL ?" Too bad they don't have any deck chairs to arrange.

Crommington

Theyre just chilling

CoxswainYarmouth

Going with the flow as they say.

CharlesDickensABox

Just guys being dudes.

Huge_Aerie2435

Are they okay though? It wouldn't be hard to get stranded on this, since you'd not want to try to swim that. Dumb kids could get themselves killed.

[deleted]

And the worst part is that they will need to strip to swim cos there’s no way they could swim with that many clothes.

praktiskai_2

they could just paddle towards the shore to crash into it? 1 paddles, and another stands on the opposite side to keep it more balanced. we also don't know how deep this is. I wouldn't be surprised if they needed to swim like 4 meters from their current point before being able to reach the ground and walk the remaining distance. It'll be cold as heck, but doable. As for stripping before swimming, they can do that, but before jumping, can yeet their clothes towards the shore.

666Chillax666

lolwut. you can swim fine with clothes on

storysprite

I hate that videos like this are always cut short. I'd love to see more. I imagine they will jump off as soon as they're close enough.

bbbruh57

You keep thinking just a little closer to shore, we wont get too cold if it drifts just a little closer. ... Does it look like we're drifting towards the shore or away? I think the shore is getting further away. ... Do we need to jump? It might drift back towards the shore. I'm actually not sure I can make it from here. ... Guys we're really far out...

MZhammer83

These guys are either genius or have the dumbs. Not in between. Would be amazing if they were glaciologists with a side hustle in fluid dynamics and did the math and knew they would be fine. But I just have a gut feeling this a’int that man.

WellIllBeJiggered

Or somewhere in the middle + booze

y_kal

They probably walked on the ice when it broke and saw that they were fine

FlowerBoyScumFuck

They could also just be wearing wet suits. That one simple fact could turn this from dumb af, to straight up genius and super fun.

baronas15

You are a glass half full type of guy, I like that

Grogosh

This happened in Russia. So A LOT of alcohol was probably involved.

Dan-ze-Man

It depends on, how thick is the ice, and also how deep is the water. Something to consider is a how the one gets off. When I was 16-18 I use to do this every winter. Note: our river was 1.5m -2m deep thro most of our town. And ice use to hit shore on must of a bends. We use to swim on ice for an hour, then jump of on random bend, walk back and do it again. We had few failures, one ice broke in half and we start sinking, I got wet. Brr Another time we hit middle on a concert bridge column, ice broke and again we got wet. Bun it wasn't deep enough for us to drown. So yes tenagers are stupid. And I was one.

PandaRocketPunch

My uncles, aunts, and their friends 60 years ago would go down to the ocean and hop across the ice clampers (tiny icebergs) near shore. They'd take the clothesline poles from the neighbors and use that to pole vault around. Anyway one time they were down there and one of my uncles slipped and fell in between two chunks of ice. The water was choppy, they were out kind of far so the water was deep, and the ice was tall so he couldn't get back up quick enough. Before they could try and pull him up the waves pushed the ice together and he had to dive under to not get squished. Luckily the ice is narrower on the bottom so there was just enough room. Eventually they got him back up, and back home. Grandma whooped some ass that day of the two eldest boys. Didn't stop them from going back down there during winter, but they stayed on shore. Same uncle took me and some of my cousins down there for a walk when we were 10 or so. The ice was so fascinating up close and the stuff piled up on shore so you could walk under some of it. Looked like the footage you'd see walking under a glacier. We explored for a bit, then lit a fire and roasted some potatoes. A while later the neighbors called the fire dept. cause she thought we were lost or something. lol One of the coolest experiences I've had as a kid but I suck at telling stories. Can't do that anymore though. Thanks climate change.

turdburgular12

I was gonna say I can’t be the only one that does this. Granted our river is like 3 feet deep with the occasional pool that’s deeper but we even call February/march ice raft season. We bring fishing rods and a chainsaw and if it’s early enough and still in season we bring shotguns and jump shoot ducks while we float and fish. When the raft gets grounded we hop off and walk to the next deep enough section and cut off a new raft and do it again. I probably wouldn’t do it on a river this big but definitely look forward to it every year

OctopusGoesSquish

What part of the world are you in? I've never heard of this being a thing and I'm fascinated.

turdburgular12

I’m in Wyoming USA. I can’t say that it’s exactly a popular idea but it’s something my friend group does regularly. I also have a running theory that by floating on the ice we are technically on waters of the state and not trespassing on private ground so we use that to fish stretches of river that would otherwise be unavailable. We’ve definitely walked the frozen river across private land and fished it. No one has ever called us out as trespassing so we haven’t had to try to explain that theory in front of a cop or a judge.. yet

ABConfidentiality

From what I've gathered, any waterway that is capable of transporting a watercraft(not sure what the specifics are on this) under normal weather conditions is considered public use land and cannot be blocked/obstructed by people that own land around it.
