And since tomato was a new world plant and first appeared on pizza in 1521 or 1544, only one member could have ever tasted it in the last decades of his long life…
What a coincidence that so many important people were born after the invention of the printing press. You had to do some seriously impressive shit to get your name written down before that.
I think it says a lot how few athletes show up before the modern era. Very few in that category stand the test of time.
Entertainers too, although there a few greats spattered throughout.
> written down before that
Two things working against you; all writing was by hand, and less than 10% of the population could read it anyway.
The proliferation of cheap, mass-produced written material was perhaps one of if not the greatest inventions of human civilization. Foundational.
Exactly! People complained about AK's media attention, back in the day, due to her not actually winning many matches. Like the media was reducing women's tennis to a beauty pageant.
Dahmer at least was exceptionally twisted, but I'd still probably call Bundy more culturally significant. When people reference serial killers, Bundy's the go-to sick fuck.
I don't know how to rank these things, but Ed Kemper really seemed to be on a different level, especially as it relates to what he did to his mother. Anywho...
I don't know why you're getting downvoted. The bias on who is deemed relevant here is painful to see. Imagine having an opportunity to widden our perspective and still choose to keep things squarely anglobasic
That is most likely because most of us dont speak any asian language (we are on reddit for crying out loud) and that Europe has dominated in almost all catogories for almost 500 years until the USA surpassed it quite recently.
The performing arts are usually considered entertainment in this context. Actors, musicians, etc. are all artists, yes, but are most commonly associated with performances in the entertainment industry.
There are five kinds of spy: The local spy, the inside spy, the reverse spy, the dead spy, and the living spy. When the five kinds of spies are all active, no one knows their routes - this is called organizational genius, and is valuable to the leadership.
- Sun Tzu
I mean hardly the big map, missing lots of important people….also some of the more recent people are a far reaching for fame when compared to others in their field (Beckham, no Messi or Ronaldo?)
I knew when Isaac Newton lived, and I knew when the Golden Age of Piracy was, but for some reason my brain never connected those two as happening at the same time.
I'm stupid though so no worries.
A slight correction. In religious leaders, the map maker named the first sikh guru sanak, when the correct name is nanak. Someone posted the version with the correct name in the comments.
Some good/great, albeit not necessarily accurate, tv shows about or including some folks listed here.
From left to right
Marco Polo - Kublia Khan/Marco Polo
Medici - Italian Renaissance
The Great - Catherine The Great
Black Sails - Blackbeard
Turn: Washington’s Spies - George Washington
John Adams - John Adams
Okay. Stay with me. A buddy comedy/action movie where Bach is kidnapped by pirates and has to be rescued by an unlikely team of an old crotchety Sir Issac Newton. Jonathan Swift, Voltaire, and a precocious young Ben Franklin.
No scientists since Einstein?
I really liked it until mid-20th century. There are many scientists missing since then. This map, mid-20th century on, is pretty sports/entertainment oriented.
I was not aware the founding fathers were all alive and revoluting while mozart and beethoven were still alive. They could've gone to see a show and been back in time to celebrate with a tea party in the boston harbor.
Just learned that not all of the ninja turtles were alive at the same time. This is going to take a while to deal with.
They just used clever editing
The third movie fills in all the questions about time gaps...
And since tomato was a new world plant and first appeared on pizza in 1521 or 1544, only one member could have ever tasted it in the last decades of his long life…
Don’t do this to me
Cowabummer dude...
When I was little, I assumed all artists were Renaissance artists. So I thought Picasso hung around with Beethoven and Leonardo da Vinci.
This comment is why i keep coming back to Reddit for over a decade. This and shittymorph
Yeah, but can you imagine calling one "Titian" and marketing it to a bunch of adolescent boys?
they couldn't handle it (because of their fAckin *HORMONES*)
Pronounced “ti-shun” ☝️

There were plenty of important authors in antiquity and the middle ages, it's just that this map focuses on popular figures people will already know.
It's easier for the average person to grasp the point of this graph when the creator sticks to the popular ones
It’s more informative of a graph to be representative of reality
Same as why hundreds of millions of our names are written down due to the internet
Are you saying Martha Stewart isn't as important as mansa Musa?
Like Kate Moss?
In terms of current people, Jeffrey Dahmer, Kate Moss, and Anna Kournakova are *peculiar* choices for inclusion.
One female athlete listed and it's... Anna Kournikova! Career highest ranking #8.
At least Jeffrey and Kate were outstanding in their categories.

Yeah, the whole mom's skull as sex toy was... extra.
Jeez, spoiler alert!
I agree it’s a bit bizarre. 95% men but make sure to include Tiger Woods 🙄
Here's the map where you can zoom in because Reddit's UI sucks: [https://i.imgur.com/2TBL3Vo.png](https://i.imgur.com/2TBL3Vo.png)
Do anybody knows if there'a software to could build sich a chart?
Inkscape, for sure :). The paid version is Adobe Illustrator. Otherwise programs like drawio and diagrams.net slap
Microsoft Paint.
Disappointed to see how LATE it starts. It's all Middle ages! In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree..
Why is it not the full image? I don't understand lol
Imagine making something like this, and then leaving out the man who invented the device you made it on (Alan Turing)
this map is a totally random eurocentric summary of history

This dudes commenting the same thing on everybody in the thread and anyone who responds and makes any sense at all (like you) isn't getting a reply.
I should probably stop arguing with people online, its an exercise in futility.
I just try to remember a solid 30% of em or more are probably young teenagers and just hope they end up not being as stupid as they currently are.
Indeed. Can you see a single Aussie on there?
Lmao pirates in “business and industry”
Arrr we be takin’ the profit and you’ll be takin’ the loss. That’s how we do “business”
Shocked they weren’t in the “baddies” category tbh
Al Capone as well
I DON'T SEE EMINEM Edit: HOLY FUCK I SEE EMINEM
I would have liked him to be classified as an artist not entertainer
He’s definitely an entertainer
The performing arts are usually considered entertainment in this context. Actors, musicians, etc. are all artists, yes, but are most commonly associated with performances in the entertainment industry.
Major oversight: I am not listed on here.
There are five kinds of spy: The local spy, the inside spy, the reverse spy, the dead spy, and the living spy. When the five kinds of spies are all active, no one knows their routes - this is called organizational genius, and is valuable to the leadership. - Sun Tzu
Ivan the Terrible is 200 years misplaced.
And Guru Nanak is badly misspelled
Incredible to see, actually. Wondering what the criteria was to garner inclusion?
Ahhh Anna Kournikova. This should be in r/xennials
How are u gonna have Jeffrey Dahmer on there and then snub Kurt Cobain?
Really cringe to see who has been chosen to represent the modern age.
This would be really cool if it wasn't so fucking low res lmao
HAHAHAHA. I’m sorry! Not my fault. But there’s a good man who posted a high res link somewhere up there. 😅
No Carl Sagan? How surprising
Don’t worry, we have Taylor Swift
No Belle Delphine?
She would be under Leaders & Baddies
I mean hardly the big map, missing lots of important people….also some of the more recent people are a far reaching for fame when compared to others in their field (Beckham, no Messi or Ronaldo?)
i am not on this map, for i have never truly lived. i have only existed in existential turmoil. am i watching shadows of life projected upon the wall?
r/BrandNewSentence
It doesn't even purport that it's about important people.
Jesus, why is it organised like this? How am I supposed to find... anything? They're not ordered in any way whatsoever!!
Secretariat is on this list
Isn’t the correct term “administrative assistant”. /s
Ivan the Terrible in late XVIII c.?!🤨
“Baddies”😂
Here I am trying to figure out if they’re categorizing Queen Elizabeth as a leader or as a baddie
The most famous person in the world over that 50ish years isn’t on here. What a joke. Michael Jackson
Really cool map. It would be cool to have an interactive one though, so we can toggle some categories on or off
I knew when Isaac Newton lived, and I knew when the Golden Age of Piracy was, but for some reason my brain never connected those two as happening at the same time. I'm stupid though so no worries.
As a Brit, it’s pretty fucking depressing that David Beckham and Kate Moss have been deemed the only 2 living British people worthy of inclusion.
A slight correction. In religious leaders, the map maker named the first sikh guru sanak, when the correct name is nanak. Someone posted the version with the correct name in the comments.
correct me if i’m wrong but that’s not a map, it’s a timeline
No Michael Jackson??
Taylor Swift got on but not Nelson Mandela 😭
I want to make something like this with my family tree.
Missing Jim Morrison
Being from the US. Is kournikova and Kate Moss like a big deal in Europe? I know them but they seem like they don't belong 🤷
Blackbeard: "business and industry" well I mean I suppose you could call it that
Looks like we've replaced thinkers with entertainers
It needs to be the opposite
Isaac Newton and Blackbeard living at the same time is kinda nuts
Bill Gates lived during the same time as Michael Jordan??? Who knew?!
Pirating... Just business and industry. Lol
Best quality Reddit image
This is crazy work!
Leader & Baddies lol
Who thought the arrows were hair on their cellphone screen?
How is this a map? This is a timeline.
It bothers me the people alive go off the page. Should stop at line
And my mom ?
The human history seems a lot shorter when compared to life length like that
Some good/great, albeit not necessarily accurate, tv shows about or including some folks listed here. From left to right Marco Polo - Kublia Khan/Marco Polo Medici - Italian Renaissance The Great - Catherine The Great Black Sails - Blackbeard Turn: Washington’s Spies - George Washington John Adams - John Adams
When you realize the Ottoman Empire and Space Age are separated by a few hundred years is closer than you think.
Not even a few hundred years. Only like 50 years or so. The Ottoman Empire was a major player in WWI and didn’t fully collapse until after the war.
Would love to see this in digital form not a screenshot
Can I get this in higher rez?
Okay. Stay with me. A buddy comedy/action movie where Bach is kidnapped by pirates and has to be rescued by an unlikely team of an old crotchety Sir Issac Newton. Jonathan Swift, Voltaire, and a precocious young Ben Franklin.
Over half the people in "Business & Industry" are known criminals
Interesting choice of people to include on the right, seemed to be picked randomly from pool of a million notable people of recent times.
No scientists since Einstein? I really liked it until mid-20th century. There are many scientists missing since then. This map, mid-20th century on, is pretty sports/entertainment oriented.
Lmao hitler in baddie mark.
Wasn't that the guy who killed Adolf? That man deserves a statue, not a baddie mark.
No Edgar Allan Poe?
Doesn't have me in it. Irrelevant. /s
This is very cool
Dang! Genghis Khan and Anna Kurnikova on the same chart 💯😄
Such a joke to not see Alexander Van Humboldt on this list. A true forgotten legend.
The document one which you can find both Eminem and Genghis Khan
W.S.
No thinkers today
Big smoke dawg 1980 - (T.B.A.)
This is quality content.
James Clerk Maxwell is missing :(
Making rulers of the same country jump around between lines doesnt help
What, no Jesus?
Al Capone is an business man like Bill Gates and not a “baddie“?
r/coolguides
why not just group each category together
David Beckham & Anna Kournikova , no Ronaldo, Messi or Djokovic. 😂
My dumbass looking at the beginning searching for the dinosaurs
cool guide to eyestrain
I want this as a poster
I didn’t find my name ?
But where is the artist that created dragon ball? Or where is the founder of the LSD?
Hm. Hitler followed by Secretariat. Sometimes the ass *does* lead the horse.
Stalin and Mendeleev should be here.
Who did this? I like it a lot!
I found the Ninja Turtles!
There are no Thinkers anymore in the newer Timespan. Explains a lot...
Take a shot every time this gets reposted!
I suspect Genghis Khan and Anna Kournikova have never been on the same chart before!
I am not here for princess diana erasure
it’s a map by WEHAVETHElimitedData
Was hoping to see Harriet Tubman on here
Kate Moss, but Elon Musk? And they say we’re in thr “Space Age”?
Seems to be missing a category for influencers.
Neat
Missing Montesqieu in the box of enlightenment.
Repost from a few weeks ago. And still missing very important people.
Elon Musk?
r/dataisbeautiful
“Where’s Gretzky?” -every Canadian
No more thinkers past 40’ies.. seems about right
Still trying to sneak Taylor Swift
I don’t see me.
Piracy is a business industry? SIGN ME UP CAPTAIN
Although cool it leaves out a lot of people
I was not aware the founding fathers were all alive and revoluting while mozart and beethoven were still alive. They could've gone to see a show and been back in time to celebrate with a tea party in the boston harbor.
How many women are on this map?
I saw the spelling error in Nikola Tesla’s last name almost immediately upon looking at this and now I’m so fixated on it I can’t see anything else 😭
I love how the pirates are color coded "business and industry"
I don’t see Homer Simpson!!! Oversight or conspiracy?
No Barack Obama?
Oliver Cromwell “statesman”… I mean it’s not wrong.
Just learned that Picasso lived til 1973. Mind blown.
Omg yessss! This is great!!
I guess no one important lived in Asia or Africa or South America (or before 1200).
Richard Feynman(1918-1988) and Alexander Von Humbolt(1769-1859) deserve more love. Several of the names on that list would strongly agree.
Of all people, how did Anna Kournikova make the list?
That’s so bad to see that Ivan the Terrible was near Napoleon.
Putting pirates under the business category is hilarious
Is there a link for a higher quality photo?
An American slant for sure
Oh no, all the Ninja turtles are dead.
I don’t see me on here. List is bullshit.
I always thought pirates had a lot of booty.. didnt realize they were so baroque
Where me ?
This map without the biggest sportsman and person star is a mistake! No Messi no party
Where am I?
"Leaders and baddies" 😂
I need a poster of this
Weird choice to include George I and not George III.
Seems very eurocentric
Awesome!
Wow people really didn't get old back in the day. Most nearly didn't make it past 50...
No Christopher Walken for reference- not a valid nor legitimate infographic.
This is rad.
