It's a clickbaity article. It's essentially a huge candle with wicks and all. It's meant to be melted. I'm assuming though the hope was that it would melt much more slowly over time. People who light a wick are asked to extinguish it after a short amount of time.
Hmmm, really have to wonder what sort of message the artist is trying to send by having people literally burn an effigy of the guy who abolished slavery in the US.
It’s probably accomplishing the message, that people destroy what’s important over time. Or that Americas slowly being destroyed by apathy and people not understanding what they’re doing. Kind of a depressing message and I’m not sure I fully agree with it but that’s what I’m taking away from it.
Right! How’s this even a post?! Are people actually dumb enough to think this fits the sub? Farm bots? wtf? It’s made of wax! Wax melts in heat. This is common sense. It’s not a melted marble statue? Why is this interesting??
The fact that it melted isn't the point of this post. Obviously it was meant to melt. It's interesting because it's a giant melting statue.
You're missing the forest for the trees.
especially since DC regularly gets pretty damn hot, but apparently its actually also a candle? so i guess it was always supposed to be a sort of temporary thing either way.
DC getting hot is an understatement. The humidity sucks as well.I grew up there and I'm used to it but when I worked downtown watching tourists get off a dry air conditioned bus and get blasted with a wall of hell they start to change their minds.I had to wear a black uniform and body armor carrying a gun so I really felt the heat.
My family has been in Maryland since the 1600's so I think we got used to it.They moved from jolly olde England to St.Marys city around 1644.The king needed a Sheriff to watch the colonists so my many times great grandfather was sent overseas.

"The six-foot-tall statue of America’s 16th president, by Richmond artist Sandy Williams IV, was installed in February on the campus of Garrison Elementary School in Northwest Washington. The noble rendering, meant to draw attention to the Civil War era and its aftermath, was placed under towering trees sure to provide ample shade in summer."
The thing is: this isn't Alabama, or Texas, or Florida.
It's DC in June. It's not supposed to be this damn hot. When I was a kid, this was supposed to be a nice time of year. It was 100° last Thursday.
Come outside please please come outside. It’s very nice outside. You won’t feel a thing come outside please I’m begging you. You should come outside now. Come outside come outside it’s a sunny day. Come outside I’m begging you.
If you saw the statue from the side, you'd laugh.
Abe is definitely getting that [Gawk 3000](https://www.reddit.com/r/washdc/comments/1dmfo53/abe_lincoln_wax_sculpture_slowly_melting_in_heat/)
I bought these plastic electric candles for a beach date night. Left one in my car on accident after we got home to PA. It liquified all over my seat. What I thought was plastic was some kind of wax that resembled plastic
And now for my personal favorite: Wax Abraham Lincoln, right over-- Oh! Oh no! Come on, who left the blinds open? Wax John Wilkes Booth, I'm looking in your direction!
I live in Ireland, we've of the most moderate climates in the world. I went to double check the heating wasn't on twice today. It felt so un-naturally warm. I think we are underestimating what the coming heat waves are going to feel like. And at what point will we all start accepting the irreversible damage we have done to the climate
If it didn't melt, I have no idea what the artist's intentions or expectations could have been.
The whole thing should melt off revealing another wax statue of Marilyn holding her skirt down
Classiiiiic
Maybe if it were a JFK statue.
JFK would be the one inside
Still looks super dope :D
I’t gonna be so hot once that first one melts 😏

I'm hanging out in a garage and I'm pretty sure I look similar. ... it's hot today, man
Yeah that’s kinda what wax does.. unless it’s on a mold.. surfboard. I mean, in this instance dude made a giant candle.
Well the statue is now historically accurate. This is just post John Wilkes Booth Lincoln now.
Feels like a DC move.
The heat is unpresidented..
He got ahead of himself on that one… Edit: to the person who spent money to send me an award I’m genuinely appreciative! But please save your cash!
Sic burn
I beg your pardon
I believe they said “DC needs another Abe Lincoln statue like they need a hole in the head.”
Heheheh
I cant hold a candle to your humor.
Bro
Damn you, take my upvote
Are you waxing philosophic?
Nice
Caption: “Ooooh goooooood..it’s soooo hooooooooooooot!!…..uuuuuuuuuugh”
It’s an art installation that was supposed to melt. It’s literally the point of its existence
Right! How’s this even a post?! Are people actually dumb enough to think this fits the sub? Farm bots? wtf? It’s made of wax! Wax melts in heat. This is common sense. It’s not a melted marble statue? Why is this interesting??
Welcome to the dead internet theory

I think its interesting, whether its supposed to melt or not. Cool art ting
Looks like Lincoln at the Ford Theatre
Oof, too soon.
It’s been like, four score and seven years.
The Confederacy still hasn't given up!
At least!
second worst thing to happen to Abe's head.
“Mary, they say this play is a real mind blow”
Ford's Theater. The Ford Theater is in Detroit
Put a wax gorilla head on it and let’s see who gets it first
Harabramham
You Dam dirty ape.
Sun Wilkes Booth
Because...Summer. He melted under the pressure.
Lincoln doesn’t do well past April.
Was the artists name Icarus by chance?
Still accurate
What did they think was gonna happen in the summer?
It was intended to melt but at the same time represent history and give the people access to it.
They probably thought it was going to melt. Nobody would be talking about it if it didn't.
“This is your brain on Marijuana”
*(144p commercial with flattened girl on the couch)*
Wax melts in heat??? But it’s such a resilient medium for long term art instillations left in the sun during summer!
Huh...I guess I'll use ice next time....
Huh...I guess I'll use ice next time....
An apt critique on modern times
*This is America*
I think he’s just “totally over all the bullshit”
Environmental Art
He looks how I feel…
Well yeah, they left it in the fucking sun
Don't they already have a big sculpture of Lincoln in DC that's free to visit? What's the point of this one?
Guy can't catch a break.
He can catch a bullet though!

Deciding to put a wax replica out exposed in the elements was the first questionable decision made here
Wouldn’t call it questionable at that point, it’s clearly intentional.
especially since DC regularly gets pretty damn hot, but apparently its actually also a candle? so i guess it was always supposed to be a sort of temporary thing either way.

I was born and raised here, and I'll never get used to it.
My family has been in Maryland since the 1600's so I think we got used to it.They moved from jolly olde England to St.Marys city around 1644.The king needed a Sheriff to watch the colonists so my many times great grandfather was sent overseas.
Ever since Abe started smoking pot he kind of just lays there
Sic Semper Tyrannus
That's right, Virginia! (I'm sorry)
What are you sorry for. It's my home state.
It’s wax bruh
History repeats itself
Well then allow me to wax ecstatic about ole Honest Abe here.
“Other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?”
Having mowed lawns in Northern Virginia during summer, this is absolutely normal, I'm surprised it's not just puddle. I often was.
Well, that's what you get for building a monument out of wax
Why a wax replica outside did they just want it to melt
Sums up the current political situation pretty well.
I wonder if that's why they made the original out of stone?
Honest Abe getting that good
Um, no shit!?
Who’s the genius that left it outside.
isn't this like making an ice sculpture and being surprised it eventually melted?
Lore accurate abe

Appropriate symbol for how he died.
He melted to death?
Shot in the head.
He ate hot lead
lol, reminds me of those old Memorex ads!
Who could have seen this coming? More tax payer money down the drain
Zero tax dollars were spent on this, but go off fam.

>placed under towering trees sure to provide ample shade Looks at pic where the statue is in direct sunlight... But did they?
Paywall
No global warming, fossil fuels are good
Sun Wilkes Booth is prowling around somewhere…
Metaphor for what’s happening in today’s republican party
Not that’s art..
He looks very tired.
Looks like and old don't smoke pot or you'll melt into a flesh puddle ad
This is how my dad lays in a chair when it’s too hot.
Pretty apt for the state of the country.
As someone said online, “It’s really missing Nancy Reagan”.
I’m sure this is all apart of the Masonic plan *Insert sinister laugh*
Never expected to see a Lincoln theatre post incident statue, but here we are.
He put his feet in the right place, and stood firm
He’s got those weird looking Yeezy’s on
Seems like a trigger warning
Come outside please please come outside. It’s very nice outside. You won’t feel a thing come outside please I’m begging you. You should come outside now. Come outside come outside it’s a sunny day. Come outside I’m begging you.
Abe at 4:20 in the afternoon.
Lawd
They had to know that would happen.
Maybe he's just high and nodded off....
If you saw the statue from the side, you'd laugh. Abe is definitely getting that [Gawk 3000](https://www.reddit.com/r/washdc/comments/1dmfo53/abe_lincoln_wax_sculpture_slowly_melting_in_heat/)
Was the hawk tuah girl there ?
Emoji in real life
I bought these plastic electric candles for a beach date night. Left one in my car on accident after we got home to PA. It liquified all over my seat. What I thought was plastic was some kind of wax that resembled plastic
He's just napping
They forgot to put sunscreen on him.
Don’t waste the giant candle! Qwick, put a wick in it!
I mean. Yeah, it's wax.
Thats some symbolism.
Shocking
Abe Lincoln, or Jebediah Springfield?
>Abe Lincoln wax replica melts in brutal DC heat Very representative of this era...
Has nobody mentioned how it now looks like the TDK commercial?
It's like he's at the theater
they should probably have anticipated this.
Is it live? Or is it Memorex?
The wax John Wilkes Booth doesn't know what to do with himself now...
Well it’s wax…. They had to expected this to happen or else why would you choose wax in this case?
It's living art. It starts off at the beginning of the play and now, the final act.
A note to remember: This summer will be the coolest summer you experience for the rest of your life.
What a perfect symbol of these dark times
How is the surprising?
I’m super confused - the original is already in DC, and it isn’t made of melting stuff.
DC is brutally hot every summer. What were they thinking?
Dudes head can't catch a break
Ffs who puts up a wax statue in summer? Oh, so stupid climate activists trying to be subtle and failing
No, John Wilkes Booth got him
He lost his head again, damn!
Was Booth holding magnifying glass to him?
Well that’s a sticky wicket
It's wax. This had to be intentional...you know...art.
Me off the smoke shop cart in 2018
So… Abe had a meltdown?
Who tf gave John Wilkes Booth a laser pistol?
When u bust and she keep sucking
And now for my personal favorite: Wax Abraham Lincoln, right over-- Oh! Oh no! Come on, who left the blinds open? Wax John Wilkes Booth, I'm looking in your direction!
Are those them drugs that commercial was telling us to take?
Why TF is it outside???
Back and to the left…
DC in that John Wilkes Booth Level heat
Awww needs to be rebuilt :)
If it didnt melt, it’s not wax.
Fore score and seven degrees ago... I still had a face.
This is an analogy to what is happening to democratic freedoms, the climate, and race relationships in America. Lol.
Metaphor to the state of the union?
I’d almost think it was intentional with how drastic of a change the statue had.
Some artists don't deserve the platform they have lol what a waste of time and space
This better not be an omen.
Looks more like a John F. Kennedy statue 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Wax melts when hot? Damn, how interesting /s
It isn’t melting in the picture. It originally looked like this, still does…
Oh no. Abe….. 🥲
Just like the good old days of 1865
The american candle
Naw, he be chillin'.
Abraham Shrinkin'.
Someone needs to give Lincoln head......because he really really needs it.
Wax?? In the summer?
