I read that article and came to the conclusion that all life is inherently evil and selfish. This explains the focus of all religions to focus on the spiritual and eschew material things. All life is trapped in physical bodies that make us consume, kill. Our spirit is pure and will only be released from this prison when the soul is ripe.
Hey, at least these fish have the opportunity to live and duke it out with their predators. It may depend on skill and luck but at least they have a chance at living freely until old age. Now compare it to poultry born and dead in captivity, where males dies culled in a barbaric way a few hours after birth and the rest is stacked in small spaces with limited mobility and force fed until they are eventually killed without even seeing the sunlight in their entire lives.
Sounds weird but I hope it AI ever becomes ASI (a super intelligence way beyond humans, and yes it’s actually expected within the near future), this is one problem I hope it solves for. Invent a better lab grown meat, find a way for animals to stop killing other animals to survive.
Yeah many people don't understand that there is no grand rule that there has do be killing. The only reason for predstors to exists in the first place is because it works.
At a certain point too many herbivores will cause starvation and at this point eating someone else is works better then struggling for the remaining food sources.
But that is all there is to it.
If overpopulation and food scarcity isn't an issue, there is no reason for predators to exist.
Lol god damn
Thanks for making me laugh at myself.
But in a semi serious way, yes… ish. Once AI surpasses human intelligence it will invent things, one of them could be ways to feed animals/us without suffering.
Maybe it sounded weird.
AI is going to surpass humans eventually (it’s not if but when), when it does it will begin inventing things.
I hope it can find ways to feed everything so we don’t have to kill animals for it anymore.
And no, not a vegetarian lol, I eat a lot of meat. Just sayin.
Wasn't sure if the video would end too soon, but it appears that osprey got control of it's prey again. Great camera work and the clip wasn't edited too bad.
It didn’t really lose control as such, Ospreys reposition their prey once they have stable flight so that the fish is on the same axis as themselves.
Probably my favourite bird of prey and I never get tired of watching them hunt.
I watch ospreys near me nearlyball day. I'm lucky to have at least three breeding pairs nearby...the squirrels, not so lucky. Im convinced the axis shift is for flight stability!
Bald Eagles that dive and grab a fish can't take off from the water. They hold on to the fish, swim to shore, and drag the fish out. They don't fly again until their feathers have had some time to try off.
Thought the same, but looked it up and turns out what we think of as a barracuda is technically a "great barracuda." I don't think it's a ladyfish. Could be a different type of barracuda, as shown here:
What?? Barracuda are ferocious, and large ones can be dangerous to humans. They're one of the most badass fish ever.
That being said, I don't think that's a barracuda in the clip.
There's a lake near me inundated with people's disgusting goldfish, which have completely ruined the water (Be warned people, you think you're doing your fish a favor by releasing it in the wild but you're actually introducing a non-native species which drowns out natural wildlife and can't be contained.) and one of the perks of that is that all the fish-eating species of birds have discovered this very fertile hunting ground.
A group of about 5 osprey have decided to nest up nearby. I watched them fish all day long. Picking off goldfish after goldfish. They were quite literally better at fishing than the fishermen who were at the lake that day.
Birds are so bad ass. Imagine being a fish and just swimming along thinking I’m great, nothing can bring me down, I have no enemies and a fucking flying land monster dives down and gets you. Damn! No one is safe. Land air or sea
Imagine that barracuda’s perspective. One minute you’re swimming along, next minute you’re being carried to your death through a world you never knew existed.
Whoa!
And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick
Ooh, barracuda, oh, yeah
What a life, sushi and flying.
Living the dream—fresh sushi on the go and a view from the sky.
You too could have this dream. It's called "First class"!
Omg! I love you, best comment ever. You made my day
Oooh barracuda
dun dunna dun dunna dun dunna dun dunna dun dunna dun dunna dun dunna Dun Dun Duuuuuun *waawaawawa*
Ohhh this is the end I saw you again
Today!
Oh barra barracuda, yeah
Now I can't get the song out of my head.
Good song.
Well if the real thing don't do the trick..
Best song on Guitar Hero.
I can't pronounce bacarruda.
More like mmmmm barracuda.
😄 yeah
Take my upvote :-)
That's bad ass
Nature's apex predator in action! Absolutely stunning shot.
*filmed by natures apex predator
Waiting for a seagull to swoop in and steal it
Mine? Mine? Mine?! Mine!!!
/r/NatureIsMetal
Nature is so unfathomably brutal
Yep, I feel bad for the fish, but would really feel bad for the bird of the bird didn’t have food to eat
Yup I agree. Shame we can’t all be herbivores
Wait til you hear about plants experiencing pain

Right? Snatched from your home, being impaled by razor sharp talons and then slowly suffocating while on the way to be eaten alive.

You want Ai to grow lab meat so the fox doesn’t have to dig up field mice anymore?

Video: Mark Smith
Wasn't sure if the video would end too soon, but it appears that osprey got control of it's prey again. Great camera work and the clip wasn't edited too bad.
The fact that it was in a slo-mo and those talons still closed in a single frame there at the end… wow.
It didn’t really lose control as such, Ospreys reposition their prey once they have stable flight so that the fish is on the same axis as themselves. Probably my favourite bird of prey and I never get tired of watching them hunt.

That final grab at the last second of the clip secured the bag
Nature’s crane game
Dude, that's amazing.
Does the Osprey have large talons?
Thought it was a whale coming up for air at first
-“And then something came down from the sky and abducted Steve!” -“Suuuure buddy.”
My brain can’t comprehend how wings work moments after being submerged in water. How hydrophobic are feathers?
Man, the energy and strength it must need with wet wings to lift out of the water and fly away. The bird might need a pre-dive meal just for strength.
Bald Eagles that dive and grab a fish can't take off from the water. They hold on to the fish, swim to shore, and drag the fish out. They don't fly again until their feathers have had some time to try off.
Barracuda is one of those animals that don't live up to it's Name.
Yeah, tell that to Nemo's mom.
Right, and also tell all of his (Nemo’s) little brothers and little sisters.
I don’t think it’s a cuda, looks like a lady fish (false tarpon). Cudas have stripes and much larger teeth
Thought the same, but looked it up and turns out what we think of as a barracuda is technically a "great barracuda." I don't think it's a ladyfish. Good, barracudas are mean and will chase you. Fuck them!
dave the diver confirms this
Dave has bigger things to worry about with the Godzilla update.
Coming to kill it's prey in its own environment ! Brutal ! Feels like a bear who would start flying to catch a bird !
Great analogy!
Or, like a bird scuba diving to catch a fish.
WOW. That was beautiful.
VTOL goes brrrrrr.
Wow. Impressive how much lift he creates after being in water. 😲
It boggles my mind the way the bird is able to take off after being dunked in water, without a runway or space to get momentum. It’s crazy!!!!!
Thats the fish final moments in life.
Death from above
That is an amazing clip.
that's crazy. pretty amazing.
Holy shit, barracudas are so unbelievably fast.
Dinosaurs, they really used time to learn and do everything to survive, hope we can do the same in couple millions years
Aren’t barracudas fast swimmers? Never heard of an osprey but I’m intrigued
As its flying off dont drop it dont drop it. That last frame. Wham. Ice pick vice grip.
7 out of 5 stars
Birds are so bad ass. Imagine being a fish and just swimming along thinking I’m great, nothing can bring me down, I have no enemies and a fucking flying land monster dives down and gets you. Damn! No one is safe. Land air or sea
Watching the transition from helicopter bird to airplane bird and now the v22 makes sense.
Super cool! I love nature! 👍👍👍
I don't know why but in my head is Will Ospreay jumping out with Barracuda in hand
Not with the one claw
Crazy wtf
Birds who can literally go into the water and fly out are fucking insane

Today i learned Osprey > Barracuda
I love the multitasking with its feet at the end :-)
reminded me of shaquile o neille
you mean the Great Aristotle
wtf
“Yep, I’m flyin’ through the air, this is not good.” - Barracuda.
Fish.. "OMG! They weren't lying!"
Just like the helicopter!
Imagine that barracuda’s perspective. One minute you’re swimming along, next minute you’re being carried to your death through a world you never knew existed.
Good work!
Wow!
*I can show you the wooooorld!*
That's a healthy snack
Bird of prey, flying high, in the summer sky
This bird just dove out the water and used its mf drenched ass wings to fly out. Truly incredible
Go Seahawks!
Epic!!!
The fact that it has power to lift off straight out of water including carrying a fish I'd fucking impressive
Birds are so freaking cool. Love them.
I always assumed that most birds couldn't get wet cause they'd be too heavy to fly like go and swim for a fish type of wet this is pretty cool to see.
Incredible
Barracuda be like, “AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
Now where's mosasaurus
Ooooh so this is why the plane got the name
Vertical take off from water with cargo
Incredible
That last claw grab probably stopped all that squirming.
I want to know what happened to the fish. Was it prepared like sushi? steamed? Grilled? Cmon man
If Odell Lake taught me anything it was to dive! dive! dive! when I see these fuckers.
That's not an osprey, that's a V-22
barracuda!
Got you, barracuda! Aaaaaa yeah
It’s okay to eat fish cause they don’t have any feeling.
Whoa! And if the real thing don't do the trick You better make up something quick You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick Ooh, barracuda, oh, yeah
Appears to be a Ladyfish, not a Barracuda
I may be too close to my window but I swear I hear every flap
I know the perfect song for that video.
Nice catch my dude
“This is for Marlon’s wife!”
He has that "bitch, fuck yo water, I'm a bird" face.
What type of barracuda is it ?
That’s a lady fish
Flying Lemur
/u/gifreversingbot
Vertical takeoff
he has no stable platform but still he just takes off … my my
Poor fish. It fought so hard
Don't worry that's the one that ate Nemo's mum.
Cute birb
So that’s probably a little bit how it feels to get taken up by aliens. I see.
