I played DDR Max and Extreme 2 on the PS2 as a child, almost all on light mode. Also had a cab in the movie theater arcade that I played in high school. Now I rediscovered an Extreme cab in a bowling alley nearby and got the bug.  Planning to scrimp for now: I have a soft pad on the way and plan to do the plywood mod when it gets here this weekend. I imagine an L-tek in my future. Getting hyped in the meantime!

L-teks are great for the price, easily repairable and even give replacement parts beyond warranty. I bought a pad like prob 10 years ago. Some panels started cracking and I asked if I could get replacement panels for my old pad (couldnt find a full replacement on the website) while buying a second pad for my gf. I fully expected to be paying for them, but was told to just order the pad and then write her the order number so she could arrange to add replacement panels for free.

Honestly, no shame. I've done this too. Sometimes I'll watch someone play DDR on a Twitch stream and I'll "play along" on the floor in front of my desk.

I'm glad that's not just me who does that lmaoo, it's kind of hard not to, it feels like practice in a way

Incredible solution, the contacts are glued to the underneath of the carpet and the floor respectively. Truly the carpet pad is the next evolution in home ddr gaming

Boy, this brings back memories! More than 20 years ago, when I saw a DDR machine (DDR Solo 2000) for the first time, I wanted to try it so badly but I was too shy. So I downloaded a DDR simulator called Delight Delight Reduplication (yeah, there was no Stepmania back then), put it on autoplay, then I practiced on the floor after drawing the "dance pad" with a piece of chalk, tic-tac-toe style. Once I got used to it, I finally tried the real thing and playing Maniac (Heavy mode) was a walk in the park! I love your set-up! It's simply awesome! And I know for a fact that it works.

WokkitUp

I wished there'd be a reliable motion detection system by now that doesn't rely on step mats. This way you could play on any surface you want.

Kagato_NZ

maybe one day someone will make one akin to those 'projection keyboards' you see pop up from time to time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection\_keyboard )

CaveManta

Kinect Kinect Revolution! I have thought of something like this ever since the Kinect was announced.

The8Darkness

The projection keyboards can barely keep up even with slow typing speed. You wouldnt be able to play anything beyond like easy. Unless you have 3 cameras working together or cameras inside your shoes, its not gonna work well.

This is exciting! I can't wait for you to get your soft pads and eventually LTEK. (They're a game changer. Finally no more slipping and sliding) Good luck, and keep dancing!

I used to practice steps at work for harder charts when I was 15. I need to hook my Cobalt Flux back up

I'm running DDR Extreme (Stepmania version) standard songs using a PS3 Soft Pad. It's pretty good!

Icekind20

I played DDR games that are on USA version on my PS2 Emulator on my PC. It’s nostalgic, but fun! And also, I played the arcade version of DDR A20 Plus at Dave and Buster’s. I used an e-Amusement Pass to save my scores.

choiceass

Yes!! Stepmania is kind of annoying, I think I'd rather emulate too. I found a bowling alley with DDR Extreme close by. It's on a CRT monitor and exactly the game I played as a kid! There's an app called DDR Finder that shows which arcades have a cabinet! Edit: didn't realize which post I was on, thought i was in a non-ddr sub haha
