If you watch the other video of this from the beginning you'll see that these people truly brought this on themselves. They had time to escape but they just stood there chilling, meanwhile all of the others were running and yelling. These people are the victims of their own stupidity. Sad, but true.
They were also warned BEFORE they even went in by the local villagers that a flash flood was headed that way and DO NOT GO IN THE WATER.
Tragic stupidity.
Natural selection at work.
I know what you refer to. That is a different incident from years ago. This happened yesterday. Look at the date of the newspaper article linked to above.
Flash floods on otherwise calm shallow creeks and rivers can happen suddenly, almost like a dam letting go. I'd guess they were trying to cross - which maybe is a normal, everyday thing to do there? - and got caught in that.
Usually there's some turbulence and/or silt in the water preceding the onrush of water. It rises fast once it starts, but there are warning signs that tell you it's coming.
You’re missing the first half of the video that was already shared here.
Edit: or maybe not, seems people are saying this is a different one. It literally looks identical to the last one.
The river usually quite shallow before so they probably stand in the middle to take photo or just sitting around. But when the rain happen, the river's volume can suddenly goes up really fast, making them stranded like that. I'm quite on the fence if its darwin or not if that's the case, since people that live away from river don't know this fact.
Everyone just guessing. What happened was they were swimming in the river, then the dam released it's excess water. They sound off alarms before this happens, but they were too far away to hear it.
All of a sudden they were now in this situation, to really no fault of their own.
however just like with the Apex predator, they fail to predict the obvious direction of danger.
India is simply turning on Hard mode for it's less than average intelligent residents
That last line is so true even politically for India, considering the fact that only the non rich people have to pay taxes while the rich ones easily commit tax fraud
You have to have an annual income of atleast 5 lakh rupees to pay taxes. 5 lakh INR is more than double the GDP per capita so the one's paying taxes are rich too.
India seems to do very well at the monthly Darwin Awards. Between touching wires, getting smashed by trains, run over by trucks and swallowed by flash floods they are raking in them prizes. Lest not forget their traffic skills as well.
Well done India.
Unbelievably huge population, minimal safety infrastructure, and also way more smartphones than you could possibly believe. Genuinely, the average smartphone owner in India probably has like two or three phones. (No actual source on that, just lived experience). So the chance we get videos is pretty high.

No need to imply anything about an entire group though.
As for all the water related posts recently, it's monsoon season, AKA insanely massive rainfall and flash floods.
This is sad and I don't think it counts as Darwin Awards because I'm sure they didn't intentionally march into the middle of the river after the water level picked up so high.
There's a longer version somewhere, this was part of a flash flood where they started and the river swelled while they were going across. They paused for a second to decide whether or not to continue across and then it was too late
It is sad. But The place is known to have flash floods during monsoon and the locals usually warn tourists not to go in there. Every year this kind of stupidity happens
>Terrifying visuals of the family's last minutes showed them standing on a rock in the middle of the rhapsodic falls, holding on to each other and hoping to move against the tide and onto the land.
>Like hundreds of tourists who throng this hill town during the monsoons, the family went picnicking at the waterfall near the backwaters of the Bhusi Dam this afternoon. Heavy rains in the region since early morning caused the dam to overflow, which increased the flow of water in the waterfall.
>The family of seven were holidaying in the hill station just 80 km from Mumbai.

Counts as Darwin award to me. They were on vacation in this area specifically because of the monsoons but chose to try a photoshoot on a rock in the middle of a river in flood season anyway.
Is this a family 😳 this is awful.
Just imagine standing there holding on to your loved ones, and then the surge of water just keeps getting stronger and takes gran and a child.
Health/Life insurance questionnaire in India:
1. Do you or any member of your family stand close to oncoming trains or hang out of moving trains?
2. Do you or any a member of your family stand in rapid moving waterways for social media posts?
And that’s why you don’t do that, boys and girls. I mean, there was a perfectly good area just a bit above them with rocks to step on and water that wasn’t shooting down like a fire hose.
Indians go crazy when monsoon (rainfall) hits...this is Maharashtra..very famous for monsoon trekking,picnics......i am planning a similar trip next hope I don't end up here
No need to imply anything about India as an entire country. Seems like an overgeneralization.
this might be a joke but it still carries inherent prejudices. I don't think that is great. Sure, we see a lot of videos from India of various accidents, but that's to be expected in such a huge country with a ton of people, minimal safety infrastructure, and a fuckton of smartphones to record it all.
Lets say they dont know each other. The strongest one decides to grab the rock (I think that's what they were standing on?) by himself. Anyone panicking and trying to grab onto him, he slaps their arms away. Only he survives at the end. Would that make this person smart for trying to survive and not let someone else drag him down? Or would he be considered evil for not trying to save anyone else but himself?

Damn, 2 survived, 3 bodies recovered, 2 still missing. Brutal.
In cases like this "Missing" is just "dead, unrecovered as of now".
Yeah makes sense
bruh this happened recently
That pfp is literally just a dick
It's a fat hog for sure.
It’s a baby piggy ya pig

Morbid curiosity is one thing. To think this is funny is just sad.
I don't understand how did they even get there in the first place
They were trying to walk across and then couldn’t move anymore and the current got stronger
how many times does this have to happen for people to realize? isn't the slippery rock surface warning enough?
It happens every year. Every damn time. The only thing left for govt to do is shut those places because people just dont listen..
How many times does it take to get hit by a train to learn?
it looks like they were trying to escape flooding

The Todd Rundgren song "Don't You Ever Learn" is buzzing in my head right now....
Could you please repeat that?
Can't you just read it twice lol?

Not the same people I think. I looked at the other video where the water was rushing in. There was someone with a blue shirt among the victims.
what other video
The other video of this incident. It's been posted everywhere for the past week.
well everywhere except this subrr If you're referring to one that showed up like 3 years ago (at least) then screw you.

just cannot stand wrong info that's what causes plane crashes & shit, worse than no info.
All of a sudden I'm causing plane crashes? Really?
Why are you bombing those kids in Gaza bro? Knock it off.
could be

The water rose in a matter of minutes, trapping them. Flash flood. It happens so quickly.

I feel like this is some new TT trend that’s big in India right now? I have seen 3 videos this week alone where this has happened
I feel that water wants to take India’s top predator spot away from electricity and trains.
The news article says they were standing in the middle for a photograph

what even happen in first place
Another one of these? When will people learn...
Actually thought it was the same one from a different angle at first.
Wait isn't it? Edit: IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MY COUNTRY
Natural selection bhai. In such over populated areas, people will be filtered out some way or the other
nothing. it's exactly the same...
I think you're right. The other times I've seen it though it has been reversed but the way they are standing there and then slip first seems similar.
I wish stupid parents would stop risking their own childrens lives. If youre going to be dumb, do it by yourself.
hey give'm a break that's why they have 5
Looked like a few young kids in there, hope they’re okay
There’s no way
I'm sure they are fine. just taking a little dip
They were a family of 7,all drowned
2 of them got out, 5 died
So horrible that it happened, I guess only the family knows if the risk was worth it
5 kids, yep it's India
Father trying to save his kids while already getting swept away. Nothing breaks my heart more than such vids.
People go there because the apex predator doesn't attack in rivers
however just like with the Apex predator, they fail to predict the obvious direction of danger. India is simply turning on Hard mode for it's less than average intelligent residents

Mosquitoes will absolutely attack you when you are standing in water.
I guess you never heard about trains
Or power lines
There is an ancient wisdom that says dont go near river during rainy season.
The irony that there were 404 up votes for this video when I saw it, because there's no way those people are going to be found.
Take my upvote and fuck off
Family photo gone wrong?
Family trip discount

Forgetting China for their work related accidents and USA for failed robberies is a crime
Touche. Although i would give the US honorary mentions for the number of cop killings.

And why were we doing that ?
They shouldn't go there for the photo op at the first place ... What a dumb move to risk your life just for a photo
What is with Indian folk and trains, electricity and rivers/waterfalls????
Population control?

why is it my immediate guess is right that this is South Asia (India) ?

Going into rivers during heavy rain for any reason is a terrible idea
There's a longer version somewhere, this was part of a flash flood where they started and the river swelled while they were going across. They paused for a second to decide whether or not to continue across and then it was too late

I was thinking the same thing. Abrupt chaos maybe but i don't think they earned this tragedy.
Is this the countrys Court system?
Is this a family 😳 this is awful. Just imagine standing there holding on to your loved ones, and then the surge of water just keeps getting stronger and takes gran and a child.
A lot of Darwin awards are handed out to people looking for a good photo opportunity in risky situations. This probably started off that way as well
Most people know not to fuck with nature - it always wins. Some people need it tattooed on the back of their hands.
Waterslides are fun for the whole family.
I guess,flash floods
Morons
Go go chasing waterfalls~

So waterfalls are the new apex predator now... Or at least one of them
A cubic meter of water weighs a ton, and people just don't appreciate the forces involved. A torrent like that would have an elephant off it's feet!
"Hey, no trains, no electricity, we are safe here."
And that’s why you don’t do that, boys and girls. I mean, there was a perfectly good area just a bit above them with rocks to step on and water that wasn’t shooting down like a fire hose.
Byeeeeeee…..!
Aww man :( RIP to them

#And it will come, like a flood of pain
Can we change the name of this sub to “r/IndiansAreRetards”
AND IT WILL COME
Is it just me or were there children there?
The water level would eventually fall, they just needed to hang on for a few months.
India is fucked up.

How does this seem like a good idea!?!?!?!
Where is the photographer? Watched the link on X which is much clearer…ain’t nobody got a camera
Jumanji, India Edition.
Still looking for that "waterfall" OP.
Dont these people know risk of rain is hard on monsoon (im bored)
WASH AWAY THE ANGER

It’s not that philosophical when one is in that situation. It’s just about survival instinct
Storm spamming monsoon in Marvel v. Capcom.
