Worth all the work. The old one was splintery and definitely could not have done this any time soon.
Edit:cropped image
Congratulations! They look very healthy, complete with 1 sock between the two of them - though maybe the dog has one in its mouth? š
Great job on the deck! Here's a beer: šŗ
Only thing I would have done differently is double up the outsider rimjoists of the deck. Makes it sturdier and you add the extra joist for border right next to double concealed joist hanger. Instead of doing that blocking you did.
Thank you! I actually did double up the side rims. Technically the internal one is the one with a joist hanger to the house. The external one was for the border to have a spot to secure the picture frame. Good call though. I just added the small blocking to help firm up the rims and for the posts to secure to.
Not an owner yet, but I'm saving this post for a future reference to some great deckwork. I'm curious what you used to shape the pour for the posts. My dad and I did a DIY shed and we just dug circular holes in the dirt and poured them level, your method looks sturdier.
Prefabricated cardboard forms, basically big toilet paper tube looking things. Thatās my guess. Dig down below grade and cut them away when done and refill the dirt
That's 1.7 bananas for reference

I would not have a beer on it. I haven't drank in 6 years, and you're not worth what it'll cost me. But I would have a soda or water and tell you how good it looks.
I suppose you're not trying to be rude, but that's awful rude bossman! Just say nah, I don't drink anymore. I'll have a water or soda...
Congrats on 6 years
So I know that was a joke but at the same time I'm planning on building a VERY similar deck next year (only difference will be lack of ledger board as it won't be attached to the house so will need an additional row of posts and a beam, plus I'm not planning to put a railing on it - not required in my area of under 24" in height). So if you've got some plans that you're willing to share I'd love to get a look that I can use as a starting point.
Iād have a beer on a rock so my standards are quite low. But your deck looks awesome and seeing your family enjoying it makes it worth all the effort and money. Great work
This looks awesome! Any chance you have a photo that shows the whole patio area as well? Your yard is shaped similar to mine and is giving me some serious inspiration for a patio just below the deck.
Also what did you do with the original concrete stairs? Are they just hiding or did you blow it out?
In pic 9 when and where are you supposed to use blocking? I understand the outer edge blocking for picture framing the decking. I've just never got a clear answer on when to use the blocking that almost seems random in most cases
I would buy the largest can of whipped cream I can find. Take all of my clothes off. Dip my toes in chocolate....yes, yes I would have a beer on it. Great job.
Nice. I live when the pictures start with the completed jobs then take us back through construction. I imagine we are seeing someone dismantle their deck.
I would love a deck like that one. Excellent job.
excellent I'd buy you a beer to sit on it. And the payoff of the little ones on it so soon after finishing it... I bet it makes the likely several cuss words during building worth it.
Looks very nice, but am still not crazy about plastic decks. But I get that with little ones, it avoids splinters. Maybe when theyāve grown can replace the decking with an exotic hardwood.
Lol funny story... So I have basically the same deck, when I was younger about 19. I had one too many beers. Passed out on top of the top deck that leads to the bottom deck. Landed on my chin, e.r trip, 12 stitches and I fractured my jaw in two places. All good now, lots of good came from it on hing sight lol. Just be careful and enjoy it safely š
Great tanning place as well š
Looks great! As a fellow parent of twins, you *will* want that skirt on it sooner or later. My 4-year-olds would be underneath there in a heartbeat, lol
Tbh its sort of crowded with the furniture, but if you dont need to move around and you are just lounging about its fine.
Also not a fan of thenplastic wood stuff. Ya it lasts longer, but i dislike the way it feels.
Looks great.
I am currently building one in our backyard - at the framing stage .
Questions:
How much level the joists must be? I mean the tolerance level so as not to feel any issues on the pvc deck.
Another question. What railing is that?
I'd have a beer in an alley that doesn't mean anything good or bad about your deck. The underside of a deck says way more about the quality than the top
https://preview.redd.it/w2foo0kn0pad1.jpeg?width=2975&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85fa2849b4e904f89158ba41db768d9a0b85c8ad Worth all the work. The old one was splintery and definitely could not have done this any time soon. Edit:cropped image

You found the other sock! Thank you.
Coming from a guy with twin 4 year old girls, nice deck sir. Youāre a champ. Carry on š«”
There's also a babies face in the person's knee in the top! Edit - I think it's Bruce from Matilda.
The dog has the other sock in its mouth.... now that's love.
A real american dream
š¤š«µššššš
Congratulations on the twins as for the beer absolutely not I hate beer but I'll take a glass of scotch thank you
šthat pic says it all dude, well done.
You use a laser level for your beam measurements and post lengths? Looks like you read the code. Good job
Only thing I would have done differently is double up the outsider rimjoists of the deck. Makes it sturdier and you add the extra joist for border right next to double concealed joist hanger. Instead of doing that blocking you did.

Sonotube.
At a minimum 1 beer. 3 or 4 would be better!
Per foot

No more tho because I have school tomorrow
My mom talked to your mom and she said itās okay
The most famous of last words
3 or 4? What is this, amateur hour?
I would not have a beer on it. I haven't drank in 6 years, and you're not worth what it'll cost me. But I would have a soda or water and tell you how good it looks.
I wouldnāt have it any other way. Congrats on 6 years!
The definition of Brutally Honest.
Youāre not worth what it will cost me
One day at a time brother. Solid.
Damn cuhs you really made this about you huh. Congrats on sobriety tho!
Enough about me, how about you?, what do you think of me? How did his deck turn into a post about you? Just say āgreat jobā and move onā¦
I suppose you're not trying to be rude, but that's awful rude bossman! Just say nah, I don't drink anymore. I'll have a water or soda... Congrats on 6 years
When are you going to invite me?
Sure! Whatās the decking color/brand?
Moistureshield mochaccino.
Nice! I used the same stuff a couple of years ago on my townhouse and single family decks! Loved that stuff!
Itās been ok to walk on during hot days. We tested a few samples before going with their cool deck
I would not have a beer on itā¦ā¦. Iād likely have a whole 12 plus
I would but my country ass would feel self-conscious and pour it into a glass. Then I'd feel bourgeois and lose my thirst. Fine Deck.
Yes ! Nice job
You really underestimate the places I'd have a beer at.
Lol. I was thinking along the same lines. I've drank in sewers before.Ā
Smart having a hose bib out that way. It'll save some hassle.Ā
Where can I find a copy of the plans! I need a new deck and this looks great!
In my head! lol message me if you dare to enter in that dangerous space
Yes - but given some of the places / things Iāve had beer on, thatās not saying much.
Brother I would have TWO beers on it. Great job
Iād have a beer on a rock so my standards are quite low. But your deck looks awesome and seeing your family enjoying it makes it worth all the effort and money. Great work
Yeah. In your new hot tub.
I'd have a beer on a pallet, but the deck looks good š
Maybe even two beers
I sure will. Thank you!
Nice! Just built almost the exact same style - yours looks better though!
Don't drink but would be happy to have a glass of lemonade on it.
I'm surprised we're not having a beer on it right now!
More like a vodka martini or an old fashioned.
Love the steps
Hello fellow twin dad! Congrats! Welcome to the club. Iām only coming if I get 2 beers though.
hose bib is a classy addition
Why did you disassemble that absolutely gorgeous deck?
The 5/4 board looks like composite
The order of the images makes it look like someone is disassembling a deck.

No. I would have 2
Can you drop the brand info for the railings?
This looks awesome! Any chance you have a photo that shows the whole patio area as well? Your yard is shaped similar to mine and is giving me some serious inspiration for a patio just below the deck. Also what did you do with the original concrete stairs? Are they just hiding or did you blow it out?
Would!
Why not below it?
idk give me one and i will review
Hot feet!
Nice deck š I would drink a six-pack on it
I would have a beer on a dirt patch. But either way, nice deck!
Several. Probably more than I should.
In pic 9 when and where are you supposed to use blocking? I understand the outer edge blocking for picture framing the decking. I've just never got a clear answer on when to use the blocking that almost seems random in most cases
Champagne š¾
No. No beer. Staying sober for my kids. Better that they never see parents drink
I would likely order a Negroni.
Nope... but I would smoke a fat doink on it.
Congratulations!
I would have had a beer on it, in the stage it was in in any of those photos - so maybe not the best criteria for me.
Can I smoke a dooby on it instead?
Yes but I'd have a beer anywhere so...
Might could. Maybe we have a couple 2-3 lattes.
Excellent job, from the photos I take you did a lot in the evenings after work, gotta love the DIY spirit!!
Buddy, I'd have 8 beers and fall down those stairs on that deck. Nice work!
I'd have a beer, a couple of glasses of wine & maybe an orange crush (or 2). This is very close to what I want to replace our current deck.
Several
Slumming it?
[https://images.app.goo.gl/9yRRbRWTkPEy6PJg7](https://images.app.goo.gl/9yRRbRWTkPEy6PJg7) Damn right I would. Great job.
Hell, Iāll pee off the side of it.
I would have a beer on a cardboard box
Absolutely. And congrats on the twins!
Coming over!!!
Atleast a sixer every night during the summer
Congrats to the fam!! And looks like a fantastic deck from my view š
excellent I'd buy you a beer to sit on it. And the payoff of the little ones on it so soon after finishing it... I bet it makes the likely several cuss words during building worth it.
That deck is so sexy, Iād give it a beer on me
Looks very nice, but am still not crazy about plastic decks. But I get that with little ones, it avoids splinters. Maybe when theyāve grown can replace the decking with an exotic hardwood.
I would have a beer on it. Iāll pretend Iām there and have one now because Iām supportive like that.
šŗ \[But now you need to add a cat to the family\]
With enough beers, it'll look level at some point.
Just be careful and enjoy it safely š Great tanning place as well š
Badass
Since I donāt like beer I will have some mixed drinks on it.
Sheās a beaut, Iāll bring the whiskey š„! Great work
Does that mosquito tower thing actually work?
Don't drink but would make an exception
If by āAā beer you mean ā1ā, no. If by āAā you mean āa fewā, hell yes. What time and how far?
I'd sit on your deck and have a beer š
TBH I'd be on the grass under the tree. It looks good tho
Only in my brand new hot tub
Congratulations ā¦. Iāll bring beers
Looks great! As a fellow parent of twins, you *will* want that skirt on it sooner or later. My 4-year-olds would be underneath there in a heartbeat, lol
She's a beaut, Clark.
I like deck beers!
More then one
Several congrats
Almost a year sober. Got any Diet Coke or water? I would :)
Looks beautiful brother
A whiskey acceptable?
Looks great! Congrats on the kiddos
no because im an alcoholic - but it looks nice
Iād have a beer anywhere.
Congratulations! And great job on the deck
Just one?
Id kick flip over that. Wya ? Let's make it happen
Iād have a beer on a tightrope. Nice lookin deck bro
No
Tbh its sort of crowded with the furniture, but if you dont need to move around and you are just lounging about its fine. Also not a fan of thenplastic wood stuff. Ya it lasts longer, but i dislike the way it feels.
If itās free then yes
whats with the widening gap between the steps and the property?
I'm surprised we're not having a beer on it right now!
Iād have a beer in a puddle of mud bud.
fuck id drink a twelve pack of stubbys mate
Looks great. I am currently building one in our backyard - at the framing stage . Questions: How much level the joists must be? I mean the tolerance level so as not to feel any issues on the pvc deck. Another question. What railing is that?
Great job!
Nope.... Don't like beer. Totally new willing to have a bourbon, whiskey, or scotch though! Beautiful looking
Between 1-10 beers
No. Iād have a 6 pack. Well fucking done.
No I would not have a beer on it. Iād have at least 6
I donāt drink but Iād damn sure take a nap on it
NO WAY IN HELL AM I HAVING A BEER ON THAT DECK. Iād be having 10.
Im taking that as an invite! Send the address
You could have a brewery on it.
A beer? I would settle in for many!
It depends. My favourite beers are: 1. A free one 2. A cold one 3. Lapin Kulta
I'm already drunk. Pass me a beer
Of course! Iāll bring you one too! š»
Looks amazing. I wish you could come over and do mine. š
No, I'd have six.
Great job...I would have several beers on that deck.
Burgers and dogs too. Very nice.
No
Itās a deckā¦Iād be happy to sit on
Is that an invitation?
Several
Wait, so you removed a deck? Just kidding, nice job.
That was a fun backwards flip book
You grossly underestimate how easily I can have a beer anywhere
Trying to see what kind of furniture you have
Heck, I'd even walk on it
My brother I'd have a beer standing on a loose 2x4 laying on the floor. Well done.
This guy decks.
I canāt think of too many places I wouldnāt have a beer
One beer? Looks great I would buy a 30 pack!
Hell yeah, nice job.
It wouldnāt take much for me to have a beer on something. That saidā¦well done!
Two Jimmy.
Can confirm, I would consume alcohol on that deck
I drink beer on all sorts of shit
More than one sir....
Nope, Iād probably have at least 3
Looks amazing
I would, but you took it apart.
And a BBQ
When I was planning my deck, my wife gave me a post mounted bottle opener. Then said: āBuild around thisā
Iāll have a 12pk, brandy and a cigar. Thank you
Looks more like a mixed drink kinda deck
I wouldnāt have a beer, Iād have a few, maybe a four pack of crafts or two
Nobody can drink just one.
Give me two sawhorses and a 2x4 Iāll have a beer on it
If you donāt have nice fire pit area, you need one. You need a spot for the men to step away to and talk about stocks and boobs and aliens.
Most certainly not.
Maybe a glass of wine looks abit feminine.
on a coaster, maybe.
Nice, Iād drink a 12 pack or two. A deck is my next project
I'd have so many I'd fall down those steps.
Yes. But admittedly my threshold for having a beer on something is quite low.
Big ole deck envy
I would have multiple.
Well with the first picture I thought sure why not but by the time I got to the end I'm at a hard no.
Would
I would have 2 beers minimum
That's some hardcore nesting before the kiddos arrived. Looks great!
No beer, but I'd have your wife on itš
Too nice for a beer. I'd be happy with a coke and rum though
I'd have a beer in an alley that doesn't mean anything good or bad about your deck. The underside of a deck says way more about the quality than the top
