It's kind of hard to lump degrassi into other reboots. Degrassi has an ensemble cast, there was no one character who led or carried the show. All of us who comment undoubtedly pick our favorites based on which generation we watched first that captured our hearts, but I know I have characters I love from every imagining of Degrassiverse. The truth is, these plotlines can be rehashed over and over because kids still have the same problems, but culture has changed so how we view, approach, and solve conflicts look a little different for this approaching generation. I'm in the group that is dying for a reboot, my daughter is almost 6 and I'm hoping they get their shit together in time for us to watch a whole new generation written just for her. It's kind of nice because DJH/DH came out when my husband was in high school and TNG was airing when I was in high school (yes my husband is older than me). So my hope is she can watch all the Degrassi's : one that reflects her dad's high school years, one that reflects mine, and one that reflects her own.
I can’t fathom raising a child with the way schools are these days especially with social media. But I do think seeing Degrassi in my younger years absolutely sculpted my way of seeing problematic issues and how detrimental certain choices can be. Made me realize how carefully I need to act even if it’s a different generation tbh.
i dont think we are quite ready for a degrassi reboot yet but if sam levinson is still doing stuff in 5 years or so then he should sTAY THE HELL AWAY FROM IT
I honestly don’t want it rebooted. Everything is being rebooted or remade and a lot of them flop so hard and I’d hate to see it happen to degrassi. NC was rough and I’d hate for us to get more of that so let’s just end it while we can remember it fondly.
I’m 30 years old and I still enjoyed bits of Next Class. I think Maya alone kept me around because I liked her character and her musical pursuits. I’m prepared to get downvoted. Yes, it’s shit-tier Degrassi, but I’m a DIE HARD Degrassi fan and I will die on this hill.
i honestly feel like NC was more similar to DJH/DH than everything that came between. TNG was a lot more melodramatic and was actually the anomaly of all the different incarnations. i think the stark change in vibe from TNG S14 to NC S1 was jarring to viewers and made longtime fans of melodramatic degrassi hate it.
Idk. I have a weird idea, for a 60minute long variety kids show, but no laugh tracks, aimed at 10-14yr olds. Elements of the following shows and their styles should include:
Kidsongs (PBS/fhe, 1996-1999)
Zoom (PBS Kids 1999-2005)
Ghostwriter (PBS/Discovery Kids 1992-1995)
Kids of Degrassi Street (CBC 1979-1986)
Nick News (Nickelodeon 1992-2015)
Channel One Kids News (1989-2018)
Crashbox (HBO 1999-2000)
Postcards From Buster (PBS Kids 2004-2012)
"And Now From Us Kids" interstitial on Arthur (PBS Kids, 1998-2021)
I know that seems super loaded, but I desperately wish that today's Kids would have a live action non-sitcom variety show with News clips hosted by teens, creative life skills activities and demonstrations, educational in-classroom 8minute lesson in history/geography, current events presented thru a News segment and hands-on or physical kid-directed engagement, finally closing out with a music video or unique dance party or dance lesson (line dance, flash mob, trending dance moves, etc). Ideally a guest star appearance by a child or teen actor, and a musician or creative influencer would be great as well!
Well to be fair the people who worked on Next Class are super out of touch lol
I think with fresh writers it would be better look at the show bel air
Will smith wanted to do a serious show with Fresh Prince but it didn’t work that way
The problem isn’t that it needs a reboot it’s the fact times are changing and people like Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn aren’t as good with adapting with the times like they used to be
We need people who understands the new generation better and definitely not someone who’s as old as Donald trump
Degrassi is a show that can evolve over time
Mike Lobel. He currently works on a Youth lead show and has directed for one the episodes. He’d have a clear understanding of the tone needed and has the experience of both production and having actually performed on the show.
Brunson would just turn Degrassi into yet another Office ripoff like Abbott Elementary. Taking a stand here. No more mockumentary style shows The "interviews to the camera" concept is a weak crutch writers now depend on to either get gags that wouldn't fit into normal dialogue, or to deliver exposition. It's played out.
Abbott Elementary is hilarious, and I believe would just as so if not funnier without the mockumentary ploy.
Although I agree Quinta wouldn’t be my choice for rebooting degrassi solely bc degrassi isn’t a comedy first. But she’s proven (outside of abbot to be very skilled and funny)
I know lots of people aren’t fans of modern reboots because while yes, they’re usually very cringe and lacking in a lot of aspects from the original series..
BUT - I’m one of those people who will eat it up every time. Purely for the nostalgia factor, and seeing my old favorites together again. I’d be happy with any Degrassi reboot if it did happen, and I’d definitely watch. (so would lots of the haters who say they wouldn’t, lol)
I agree with this, I just don't fucking want the guy who made euphoria to do it.
There's been NOTHING but problems and panics and constant last minute script changes on that show. It would absolutely destroy degrassi, which i feel deserves genuine thought ahead plot that sticks.
Like, I would be so irritated if they rebooted degrassi and then booted a main character off right away for disagreeing with the creator over an ED storyline and shit.
I’m also a pretty big euphoria fan and I can understand that sentiment of it. Sam Levinson is terrible for so many reasons aside from just the delay as you briefly mentioned at the end of your comment
I can definitely see why nobody wants him working on Degrassi- they are vastly different shows, and I agree that if it were to have a reboot Degrassi deserves a fair shot. I don’t have any suggestions for other creators cause I’m not that into the film industry or good with names 😂 but whoever it MAY be, I’ll be watching!
I would say a cast from Degrassi JH/TNG cause they got enough experience from the show pre-production and post production. My ideal home for it is Paramount+ or Prime Video.
I’m not sure exactly who should do it or which network it should come from, but I’ll 100% take Quinta Brunson over Sam Levinson any day.
Brunson’s version would read like an adaptation of the earlier seasons with a bit more nuance and some brevity in between.
Levinson’s version would have tons of female nudity and The Weeknd playing Jimmy Brooks
Maybe someone from the cast of TNG? Thinking of a similar cast > director > producer career path that Stefan Brogren took (who played Archie Simpson)
Also laughing about how Sam Levinson would have reimagined Degrassi LMAO. Obviously that was not real but I'm thinking of other noteable showrunners that would do a hilarious reimagine of the show: Shonda Rhimes, Amy Sherman Palladino, Tyler Perry, whoever did Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Yeah if Max did go through with the reboot they wouldn't want the same thing. I don't get why people think that would be the case. They'd just be on the same network, it would also be produced by different people
Whoa whoa whoa, since when was Sam Levinson supposed to be involved in a Degrassi reboot??? And I want links. All I ever heard was that there would be a reboot on that would be streamed on HBOMAX…
Yeah I did some google searching and he was definitely not involved with the reboot at all. HBO has a lot of shoed and they all have different show runners, producers and directors. It’s not like one team does all the shows.
I don't have a name, but I want someone who loves DJH/DH that is not named Kevin Smith. I would love if there is a new Degrassi series that is more DJH/DH than DTNG.
I'm probably in the minority here on this though.
i agree with you! classic degrassi hits different and i would love for the franchise to go back to its roots in realistic storytelling around issues kids experience rather than romance and drama fests
Where did you see Sam Levinson was on the project ? I knew it was to HBO but no wjere it said Sam Levinson

I am very happy that Sam Levinson didn’t get his grimy little sticky fingers onto my precious Degrassi.
It shouldn’t be. Next Class alone proves we don’t need one lmaoooo
We could just forget that Next Class was ever a thing can’t we?
I agree. Obvious answer is no one. We enjoyed TNG. We can rewatch it. We don't need a reboot
Well to be fair the people who worked on Next Class are super out of touch lol I think with fresh writers it would be better look at the show bel air Will smith wanted to do a serious show with Fresh Prince but it didn’t work that way The problem isn’t that it needs a reboot it’s the fact times are changing and people like Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn aren’t as good with adapting with the times like they used to be We need people who understands the new generation better and definitely not someone who’s as old as Donald trump Degrassi is a show that can evolve over time

Linda Schuyler. She created Degrassi.
Lmao let that woman rest
I know lots of people aren’t fans of modern reboots because while yes, they’re usually very cringe and lacking in a lot of aspects from the original series.. Shonda Rimes. I hope I spelled that right
She would kill everyone off…
Lol true
Has Quinta written any dramas?
no one
HBO would probably make it inappropriate which is not the point of the show
I’m still sad it’s not happening
I’m not sure exactly who should do it or which network it should come from, but I’ll 100% take Quinta Brunson over Sam Levinson any day. After the weeknd show got cancelled I doubt he's getting casted again.
No
Quinta Brunson? But Degrassi isn’t a comedy…I also don’t want it to be Euphoria either. Leave it as an after school special format.
no one please, id love to leave this legacy untouched by a modern reboot https://i.redd.it/6fjsxrf9v3uc1.gif
You do realize degrassi next gen is a reboot right?
i said modern reboot
next class was already the modern one
I like to pretend that didnt happen
Maybe someone from the cast of TNG? Exactly cause OP jist made that up☠️
Is he even Canadian?
Whoa whoa whoa, since when was Sam Levinson supposed to be involved in a Degrassi reboot??? And I want links. All I ever heard was that there would be a reboot on that would be streamed on HBOMAX…
I think it was a joke when it was coming to Max and I got mixed up.
Yeah I did some google searching and he was definitely not involved with the reboot at all. HBO has a lot of shoed and they all have different show runners, producers and directors. It’s not like one team does all the shows.
Shonda Rhimes for the drama 🤣
Emma and Spinner have been kidnapped by the Taliban
Emma is President and Spinner is her bodyguard.

Quinta Bruneon would be PERFECT!! She'd probably the LGBT and pic characters justice
She also a huge fan of TNG growing up
Yes finally giving BIPOC the Degrassi flowers they deserve.
