I guess I’m biased (I bought it) but I really like it.
I believe it was a student project of some sort originally so you’re spot on!
**Edit:**
Hello everyone. wow. this really blew up in a way I didn't expect. People seem to really love it or hate it and loads of people have asked things. I now understand what people mean by their inbox blowing up, As the highest rated comment I'll reply here. Here goes:
**How much did you pay?**
£50 to the artist, £80 in printing, frames and wall fixings.
**Why don't they fill the frames?**
At some point, something went wrong with the process of printing and they arrived smaller than expected. I think this was due to the source size being nonstandard.
I did the best I could with the budget I had, the frames were from IKEA and also nonstandard size (we bought something close to A3).
In the end it was either a case of re-print & buy new frames *or* make do *or* bin it entirely. I didn't want to spend hundreds so I made do.
**Why isn't it on the wall entirely straight?**
If you want the truth, three of us put it up. We weren't entirely sober and didn't really use the spirit level or tape measure. It's a performance piece and comedy of errors at this point anyway.
I actually think we did pretty well considering the circumstances.
**Do I like it?**
I love it, I know a lot of y'all hate it and I'm a basic bitch for liking it but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This is only in my bedroom, not my lounge or anything either so it's not widely seen.
**Where did I buy it?**
I contacted the artist, [Meaghan Li](http://meaghanl.com/), directly several years ago [after seeing this piece in the press](https://metro.co.uk/2015/04/20/this-is-your-brain-on-drugs-according-to-a-psychology-student-5158527/) and she said she'd sell a copy of the PDF originals for £50 GBP.
Printed by some random online printing service I can't remember now, frames from IKEA.
**My opinion on drugs? Anti/pro?**
Pro - I use drugs recreationally, which I think is ok. And this is just neutral art, it's not really advertising either 'for' or 'against' in my interpretation.
**Accuracy?**
I think it's kind of accurate. Having taken cannabis, alcohol, opiates, MDMA and Adderall previously I would agree with their representations. I can't comment on the others.
A lot of people are talking about the difference between Speed and Adderall. Yeah they're the same I know. I suppose in some contexts Adderall is the pharmaceutical whereas 'speed' can refer to amphet powder or crystal meth.
**Why post here?? This isn't DesignPorn! etc**
Idk what to tell ya. 3k+ upvotes at this point. Clearly a few of y'all like it.
**We're Women**
A few people have used male pronouns etc, but myself and the artist are both women.
Passepartouts are not though, that’s all it needs. And the frames in the picture don’t look expensive at all, not that expensive frames should be required for a student project
Like many here I’m not a fan of the art, but I loved your answer. Very nonchalant and matter of fact.
I disagree with the representation of each drug having tried most of them, but hey, it ignited a conversation about it, which is one of the main purposes of art, so there you have it.
Having had a nice amount of experience with 7 out of the 12 here, I can assure you this is absolutely awesome. It really encapsulates nicely the "slide" you get and the variable speed of the high with a simple design. And also gives me a nice taste of the other ones I haven't tried.
It’s done a million times before and way better I most instances. Plagiarism is never designporn. Colour scheme is weak. Illustrations sub-par. Same font, format and framing. No originality. Hope it was cheap.
Yes it's pretty reminiscent of that new scientist cover with the spiderwebs. Plus heroin should be better half the world didn't get addicted to opium for no reason.
Yeah the heroin one seems to be the only one with a different vibe to it entirely.
Like all the other ones are portraying “effects” so to speak, and the heroin one is simply “heroin bad”.
Alcohol is also pretty much just negative.
Like, I get that if you drink enough it essentially just knocks you out.
But there is absolutely a good feeling you get from it as well.
I guess i understand it. The white represents euphoria, and the horizontal line represents how this euphoria doesn’t have peaks of acceleration. It’s a depressant after all. So it’s starts with a calm euphoria that fades away overtime.
During my K infusion today I felt my whole body was vibrating, so it kind of gives that visual effect. But the feeling of it is more “dream-like visions” than “blue and red ven diagram” lol
When on K in the clinic I have auditory feeling of something vibrating too. More like a mechanical movement of something clicking inside my head. I also had those disembodied visions, but yeah, nothing likw the venn diagram.
Well, ketamine is a dissociative drug. Many people describe that they feel sort of outside themselves when they take it. Which makes sense why one circle would be off-center and cut off. I think it’s a fabulous depiction.
My wife was doing some Ketamine micro dosing and I think that was a good representation of what she described. Maybe not so much if you go to the full “hole” experience.
The main difference between meth and Adderall is what gives meth its name - the extra methyl ion group attached to the molecule. That’s not a distinction without a difference either. The most deleterious effects of amphetamines are significantly exacerbated by that extra methyl ion.
That's great and I hope you enjoy it! It's a group of nice graphics, which is grand as it sounds like that's what you wanted.
But it's not really design porn, looks like a graphic art show. I'm guessing inspired by the anti-drug ad in the 80's with the egg, same title.
It reminded me of those 'mints' you used to get that were really thin gel-like strips? Put them on your tongue and they melted.
Like a stoner melting into the sofa cushions.
The white represents euphoria, and the horizontal line represents how this euphoria doesn’t have peaks of acceleration. It’s a depressant after all. So it’s starts with a calm euphoria that fades away overtime.
Almost looks like a window to me because of the 3D effect it has, someone looking through a window, or haze? That’s what my silly brain thought anyways.
We need some additional dimensions to even get started with DMT.
And why is heroine black? There are many bad things about opioids but the feeling is really warm, loving and embracing.
Me? You're right, I'm happy to say that I have not ever experienced a hankering for heroin.
I've known plenty of users and seen black tar in solid form so I made a guess, as stated. If you'd like to make a more informed suggestion, the floor is yours.
This looks like someone asked an AI for a bunch of image depictions. It's got a boring colour scheme, the messaging is childish and the images are framed in a mildly infuriating way. This is not a controversial piece of art. This is Kmart style serviced apartment lifestyle art a la 'live laugh love'. The only controversy about it is the variance in personal tastes that allow some people to find this aesthetically pleasing.
As a former drug addict, these do nothing to convey how a person's brain reacts to those substances. Not even abstractly. It over-simplifies them to such a degree that I am quite certain the artist did absolutely no research aside a quick skim on WebMD.
TBH I'm kinda outraged these exists.
How can you be outraged? That's such a weird gatekeepy reaction. Everyone is subjective on their experience and we can see in this thread some people agree and disagree. As someone who has done a fair few of these they feel close if you put some thought into it. I mean how are you even meant to capture every single person's feeling? It's just a project lighten up.
Nah. Why are speed and Adderal different pictures? And before anyone tells me, I know that Adderal is 75% dextro instead if 50% but that doesn't make that much of a difference.
You do realize that aderall is a drug right? It's nearly identical to meth. LOL. How do you not even know this? I mean even meth is available behind the counter.
All medications are drugs. There are lots of other prescription medications that are taken recreationally that weren’t included in this grouping. So why choose Adderall? Methamphetamine is available behind the counter, but you can barely call pure medical grade methamphetamine and the speed you buy on the street the same thing. A test comparing the two would certainly show significant differences in quality and chemical composition.
“Nearly identical to meth” is a misguided comparison that contributes to the stigmatization of adderall and other adhd medications. Ozone is nearly identical to oxygen, but one is essential to human life and the other will kill you.
As someone who's done alcohol, shrooms, ketamine, LSD, marijuana, and DMT, I have to go against the crowd here and say they're actually kind of accurate to my experiences.
I’ve done all of them and they are all pretty close or at least I can say “yeah I can see whammy they were going for” idk if I’d call it design porn but they are nicely done and people are shitting on this for no reason.
I'm actually really surprised at how much hate this post is getting.
I think this a pretty awesome depiction of the various states of mind while staying within a cohesive minimalistic style structure
Coming from someone who has sampled many of the drugs listed at least once. Not all but still, I thought this was an awesome design porn post
Yeah me too. I’m kinda confused to be honest. The upvotes say one thing but the comments another. It’s kinda fascinating. Some people seem really upset.
Literally bought it and hung it in my house (where photo was taken) as I think it’s great.
Yeah it clearly has accuracy/duplication issues and isn’t a complicated piece of work but I still enjoy it aesthetically as art and it’s a powerful statement piece, in my humble opinion.
I bought it after reading press coverage in The Metro and a few other places.
The best art is controversial I guess?
Meh, it's not great. Some are okay.
Adderall being like "awesome brain!" And then you have speed the way it is. Is pretty fucked up tbh. Like if that was shown to anybody who didn't know drugs I'd be concerned.
If you like it, good for you.
Is that what DMT really feels like? Because if so I need to get some.
On the flip side I hate the feeling of falling into an uncontrollable void therefore would not enjoy Salvia.
Pretty fuckin good!
For heroin I could really see it as that exact image, but with BEAUTIFUL warm background instead of the black. It’s both that evil figure and the beautiful falseness it creates as well .
Salvia should just be snot and vomit on paper though .
Your brain on acid is actually acid blotters, but many of them. And your brain on street amphetamine is chaotic evil but your brain on clean amphetamine is just brain, but intense glorious brain. Amen.
Drugs but make it corporate
Lol, this is accurate… when I saw that I was also like “meh”
It’s so bad, how does it have so many upvotes
It is dreadful, isn’t it?
See all those upvotes? These are all the folks who never used any drugs ever
It’s giving undergrad graphic design project (no shame, but not necessarily design porn)
I guess I’m biased (I bought it) but I really like it. I believe it was a student project of some sort originally so you’re spot on! **Edit:** Hello everyone. wow. this really blew up in a way I didn't expect. I think it’s pretty cool that people support student works they liked.
I think it’s cool too. Needs reframing though
I quadruple that it’s cool. And yes, the framing is making me want to rip what’s left of my hair out of my half-bald head
Frames are expensive tho
I think they would look better without frames then with those frames.
Passepartouts are not though, that’s all it needs. And the frames in the picture don’t look expensive at all, not that expensive frames should be required for a student project
Exactly, that’s why you design your graphics to fit the cheap frames to start with (jk)
True dat
This would hit so much harder with better framing.
Missing Caffeine.
Like many here I’m not a fan of the art, but I loved your answer. Very nonchalant and matter of fact. I disagree with the representation of each drug having tried most of them, but hey, it ignited a conversation about it, which is one of the main purposes of art, so there you have it.
I feel all of them except the alcohol one Edit: I wonder if the artist actually used all these drugs in the name of 'research'
I think it's cool..😁
Having had a nice amount of experience with 7 out of the 12 here, I can assure you this is absolutely awesome. It really encapsulates nicely the "slide" you get and the variable speed of the high with a simple design. And also gives me a nice taste of the other ones I haven't tried.
I think it’s pretty cool tbh.
It's very pretty.

Yes you're absolutely right

Design Swimsuit Issue
Careful. Every time I question the porn of it a bunch of “peaked in high school” brats come out of the woodwork to put me in my place.
I thought the same thing
What's with this new phrase 'it's giving'? I appreciate that language changes over time, but this particular evolution is horrible.
I've got a feeling that whoever made this didn't put much research into it.
I cannot fathom what the Author's thoughts were when designing Ketamine.
Marijuana is… green?
A fading white square in a green bg. New strain just dropped.
Is the white square rolling paper?
Could be, Wouldn't the green be over the rolling paper?
faded
It's faded
Should just have been a Doritos bag
I guess i understand it. The white represents euphoria, and the horizontal line represents how this euphoria doesn’t have peaks of acceleration. It’s a depressant after all. So it’s starts with a calm euphoria that fades away overtime.
I get it. Phasing out our your body type of vibe.
Maybe what a k hole looks like to someone who’s never done k
You kidding? I thought it was the most accurate one. K is a dissociative, takes you out of your body. That’s exactly what I see in that pic.
My wife was doing some Ketamine micro dosing and I think that was a good representation of what she described. Maybe not so much if you go to the full “hole” experience.
I have treatment resistent depression and work it with K. The main visual sensation I have is an enhancement of whites (of the wall of the clinic).
Does it help beyond that visual cue?
Ketamine always gave me double vision so I think its an accurate representation
I would say the K illustration suits shrooms better…the shrooms is just…lame. Not like that at all.
Hm? Seems pretty accurate for what I’ve experienced. The acid vs shrooms visualization is bang-on for me.
Yeah these literally make no sense lol. Seems like something you’d buy off Wayfair for cheap.
This just makes me want to do all the drugs now. Well except heroin
Shouldn‘t speed and adderall both have the same effect?? They are both amphetamines, effect only depends on who is using it.
Now I want to do drugs. Thanks.
Three CNS stimulants. Spiky scribble. Spiky line. Brain eclipse. Hmmmmm.
Ye speed and Adderall having complete opposite visuals despite dosing being the most major difference between those two is a bit funny lol
The main difference between meth and Adderall is what gives meth its name - the extra methyl ion group attached to the molecule. That’s not a distinction without a difference either. The most deleterious effects of amphetamines are significantly exacerbated by that extra methyl ion.
Yeah it’s not terribly accurate, I just bought it because I think it looks cool.
That's great and I hope you enjoy it! It's a group of nice graphics, which is grand as it sounds like that's what you wanted. But it's not really design porn, looks like a graphic art show. I'm guessing inspired by the anti-drug ad in the 80's with the egg, same title.
That is some extremely bland corporate minimalism right there
nah
This is what you'd get if you fed a 13-year-old a piece of tissue paper, told them it was a tab and asked how their trip was.
Yeah or like if you asked a Mormon with a graphic design bent to visualize drug use? Lol it’s just so weirdly sterile
I'd genuinely love to see the results of that. No googling allowed, just draw what you think. Wonder if someone's done it.
Now we’re talking actual art here!
Can we just maybe get frames that fit?
For real, I can’t get past the improper fit.
At least have them all centered in their frames, I’d be cool with that 😅
Blech. Also the cocain image should be reversed
I dont miss that comedown.
15 minutes after it runs out… crippling anxiety
Whats that on marijuana?
It reminded me of those 'mints' you used to get that were really thin gel-like strips? Put them on your tongue and they melted. Like a stoner melting into the sofa cushions.
Those got banned at my school cause some kid put a bunch on his eye and did some real damage
Man, kids are idiots.
Listerine strips. Damn I used to get them all the time & just now realizing they haven’t sold them in years
Still being sold
one time I got a little pack of those so I ate one and then realized they were soap strips, not listerine strips
They sell strips like Listerine, but with cannabis infused in it too
Fuck yeah, they were weird.
Pretty sure its a rolling paper going from green to white as its being rolled into a joint
Enlightenment, higher power idk
My guess is its meant to be a rolling paper going from green to white as it's being rolled
The white represents euphoria, and the horizontal line represents how this euphoria doesn’t have peaks of acceleration. It’s a depressant after all. So it’s starts with a calm euphoria that fades away overtime.
Except for Marijuana they all seem to be all on spot
Almost looks like a window to me because of the 3D effect it has, someone looking through a window, or haze? That’s what my silly brain thought anyways.
it means faded
Not even close
DesignSearsCatalog
We need some additional dimensions to even get started with DMT. And why is heroine black? There are many bad things about opioids but the feeling is really warm, loving and embracing.
Black tar for dragon chasers is my guess. The figure looks kinda smokey.
Someone has definitely not done heroin.
Me? You're right, I'm happy to say that I have not ever experienced a hankering for heroin. I've known plenty of users and seen black tar in solid form so I made a guess, as stated. If you'd like to make a more informed suggestion, the floor is yours.
I liked the heroin image but its more of how you feel after years of use. Not necessarily the actual high you get
This looks like someone asked an AI for a bunch of image depictions.
Very insulting towards AI 😅
Nope
This is like alegría art for drugs.
This is terrible. In terms of both design and messaging
Is she a high schooler in a catholic school, because this is the idea i'm getting
Another day another post that doesn’t really relate to design at all
Mmmmmm nahh
What drug were they on to not get frames that fit?
Where are the frying pan and the egg?
Adderall and speed are too different here
My dyslexia read saliva
As a former drug addict, these do nothing to convey how a person's brain reacts to those substances. Not even abstractly. It over-simplifies them to such a degree that I am quite certain the artist did absolutely no research aside a quick skim on WebMD. TBH I'm kinda outraged these exists.
Well, if the goal of art is to make you feel an emotion, it’s done its job.
Acid is a lot more complex
Nah. Why are speed and Adderal different pictures? And before anyone tells me, I know that Adderal is 75% dextro instead if 50% but that doesn't make that much of a difference.
... What is this even?
This super cringe
terrible post
Not how I experience Madam Mary Jane..
Nice menu options.
Ketamine seems accurate. I dig these.
Acid makes you gay.
Bit generic could’ve been more expressive of each one
For the ones I’m familiar with, looks spot on with my experience
Most of these aren’t totally relatable Like why does heroin have slenderman on it lol opiates feel like a cozy blanket
I kinda wish she had filled the frames at least.
weed and shrooms have been green lit. nice.
Did most of them, they dont feel like this
“I swear bro I’m doing this for an art project”
Why does the weed look like toilet paper and the shrooms look like a potted plant? The rest look cool though.
This seems like a very basic idea of these things
Shame they couldn’t find some correctly sized frames
Initial reaction: “They forgot weed!” Follow-up reaction: “I think I’m too high.”
Woah dude this artist must have done so much drugs to research this project that's so edgy and unique and cool
So sick of adderall being considered a drug now. It's medication. If you wanna demonize drugs at least say meth.
This /r is filled with snarky jerks. I’m out.
More fool them if a Reddit post of art hanging in someone else’s bedroom upsets them that much tho right?
Yes, this “need to criticize” everything is intolerable. Thanks for posting. I enjoyed seeing and thinking about the representation of drugged states.
This blows
As someone who's done alcohol, shrooms, ketamine, LSD, marijuana, and DMT, I have to go against the crowd here and say they're actually kind of accurate to my experiences.
Salvia was pretty accurate
Dude, I’ve done a lot of these, and they’re not too far off
I’ve done all of them and they are all pretty close or at least I can say “yeah I can see whammy they were going for” idk if I’d call it design porn but they are nicely done and people are shitting on this for no reason.
it’s stupid
Meh student shite.
This shit wrong as fuck lol
I'm actually really surprised at how much hate this post is getting. I think this a pretty awesome depiction of the various states of mind while staying within a cohesive minimalistic style structure Coming from someone who has sampled many of the drugs listed at least once. Not all but still, I thought this was an awesome design porn post
I'm similar, and I thought the same as you. Great poster! You people need to relax and stop gatekeeping. Smoke a doobie instead ;-)
The best art is controversial I guess?
it’s just so cliche and formulaic. it’s my first time seeing it and i feel like i’ve seen it 100 times before
Meh, it's not great. Some are okay. Adderall being like "awesome brain!" And then you have speed the way it is. Is pretty fucked up tbh. Like if that was shown to anybody who didn't know drugs I'd be concerned. If you like it, good for you.
Ugh, I hate the word "shrooms" just say psilocybin. Also Marijuana is also a dated term for cannabis.
Marijuana is not a dated term just because you don’t use it. I guarantee more people use that than cannabis
r/drugscirclejerk is this way
Lmao, touche
I thought this was one of those paintings of when the artist was on certain types of influences.
The heroine ghost thing is giving me goosebumps ngl. And I’m sober
Is that what DMT really feels like? Because if so I need to get some. On the flip side I hate the feeling of falling into an uncontrollable void therefore would not enjoy Salvia.
Whoa! Trippy man!
Tried speed and Adderall. The rest seems unnecessary and extreme for me. 🤭
cool designs but it does not seem like the artist really knows what they are talking about lmao
As far as porn goes this falls under homegroan.
Now im curious how did they know? Did someone test it all?
Where is Nikotine?
MDMA looks nice
Pretty fuckin good! For heroin I could really see it as that exact image, but with BEAUTIFUL warm background instead of the black. It’s both that evil figure and the beautiful falseness it creates as well . Salvia should just be snot and vomit on paper though .
I love it. To me ketamine is more of a black and white 3D grid system
Even in this concept, heroin looks fucked up!
Your brain on acid is actually acid blotters, but many of them. And your brain on street amphetamine is chaotic evil but your brain on clean amphetamine is just brain, but intense glorious brain. Amen.
I got 3 bingos!! plus 1 diagonal not sure of the rules.
Lol the marijuana 🟩
Kind makes me want to try them...
??
It is interesting to see how he made diametrically different illustrations on the same substances. (Adderall - Speed)
How's this design porn lololol
Where's this bought from
What...? Why? And absolutely not lol
I like these tbh. Drug culture is gatekeepy no matter what. I can get behind any of these
I rate this 2.5/10 .
if anything this makes me want to use them
Why they so shittily placed in the frames
Nope
That's pretty bad and really not accurate, before doing these you have to try in order to depict the effetcs
Made by someone who has never done drugs, you do a caterpillar of K and your not opening up illustrator let me tell you that
I get the feeling the hardest drug this person's ever done is Tylenol.
This art was made by someone who has never done any drugs.
I don't think this belongs here.
r/designdesign
Looks a bit like a copy of [Philographics](https://studiocarreras.com/philographics)… nice idea but not original
Where are the fried eggs?
The artist had to have been under the influence of these drugs atleast once for me to find this valid
Could have a at least centred them in the damn frames
Collect the whole set
This makes drugs look fun
People who needs marijuana and adderall: 🗿
you shoot brain lasers on Adderall?
