I for the most part supported Susan until she sabatoged Julie's dinner with her potential adoptive parents for her baby. That was just so reprehensible and awful and I just could never like her after that. Julie wasn't ready or willing and forcing parenthood on her was just so fkd up! Support your child and her decision! It makes me mad just thinking about it!
For me, it also kind of tarnished Julie's eventual decision to keep the baby. Part of it felt like Julie just got worn down by Susan's passive-aggressive comments and meddling, on top of the stress caused by Mike passing and her having to take care of MJ and (yet again) her mother.
Right?!? She said that her reason for considering adoption was because the baby was "inconvenient." There was no reason to feel guilty about that- better that the baby is raised by a family that is ready and excited to have a baby than by a single mother who might resent struggling or having to put her life on hold.
Susan was always incredibly self centred as a mother- she's extremely lucky that Julie turned out the way she did, because she could have turned into a big horror show
Gabby's girls are just like her, but I feel like Gabby's redeeming qualities far outweigh her bad points. She's strong, resilient and made a lot of sacrifices for her family. And in the face of a crisis, I'd certainly rather have Gabby with me than whiney Susan.
So she :
- slept with a teen while being married
- cheated on her husband with her ex husband
- flirted with a man in front of his wife not caring what damage she could do to them (Adam and Katherine)
- kissed a man in front of his wife because "it's fun lol"
- tried to steal money from a drug dealer (Eli)
- got Juanita Solis (senior) back into her gambling addiction because she wanted some free time to screw a teen
- called immigration on Grace's mother after getting her husband in trouble because she's that selfish
- tried to get the inheritance of a man who died because her lover killed him
- she blackmailed a guy that cheated on his wife to get Carlos a bonus (while being "friends" with the wife)
- treated her pregnant friend like crap because her husband was the boss
I wonder what great deed she did to outweigh that
No one on this show is a saint 🤣 that's kind of the point? They're all done terrible things, nobody is a good person every single episode
But specifically in terms of their parenting, this is my opinion
The both of them suck tbh 😭 they were both horrible people who never cared about anyone but themselves but the only difference is Gabby made it apparent and never cared how she came across to other people when it came down to her selfishness. Susan acted like what she was doing was the right thing and no one else could tell her otherwise and it only got her into so much bs like when she truly did her own daughter a disservice when she sabotaged that dinner for the baby’s potential adoptive parents because Julie didn’t want to keep the baby. She’s selfish but she tries to make it come across like she cares if that makes sense? The only reason why I feel like Gabby or the rest of the women don’t get shit for their horrible actions as much as Susan is because they aren’t a liability compared to Susan. This is the same woman who literally painted the crime scene of Gabby’s Stepdad’s crime scene even tho they all made a promise not to say anything. I don’t hate the actress who played Susan but I always look at people sideways when they say they love Susan’s ditzy klutz ass because…. how? Especially during season 8.
They do both suck morally. My likes and dislikes of characters are not really based on that character’s moral choices. I like characters based on how much they entertain me.
I am far more interested in watching whatever mess Gabby and Bree get into vs. Susan’s constant will she and Mike get together story line that runs so long, even after their marriage and divorce. At some point I stopped caring what happened to them.
I personally don’t always like a character because they’re a good person. I like them because they are interesting to watch. Susan’s storylines were boring. Gabby was more entertaining.
I love Gaby but Gaby is just horrible in season 6, 7 and 8. I don't understand why the writers made Gaby evolve so much during past seasons to ultimately return to her original self!

I agree that Gaby and others should be criticized as well but I dislike the idea that people can’t yuck on Susan because “others are worse”. Susan still did annoying things and it’s ok if people want to discuss what they don’t like! Don’t invalidate people’s opinions by telling them to rewatch just because they’re not aligned with your opinions lol

Her kids are selfish and immature because she was a good mother, she let them be kids and they weren’t parentified like Julie was. Kids should be somewhat selfish because they shouldn’t get the burdens of other people’s problems and even then Juanita was still very thoughtful
