my family is from there and i lowkey want a jersey just for this reason but at the same time thats 200 dollars on a player who may not even get 10 games as a wing.
Had a class with him in high school and someone else that got drafted.
Brandon Archibald who is retired now that was drafted by cbj went to our high school as well he never played in the league though.
I hope Jack gets to play for us, but with signing talbot having Lyon and husso and the others I have a feeling he may not see a lot of time on the team if any.
But we have four this year. Each one plays every fourth game and plays to his potential resulting in a four-way tie for the Vezina.
But honestly, the Campbell deal is basically no-risk, potentially high reward.
I mean, at worst he’s the GR backup. At best he finds his game again and pushes for starts on the Wings. Honestly at league minimum that’s a great deal I think
Obviously or he wouldn’t sign this deal. Just not usual that you see someone who has played at such a high level and made good money in the NHL opt to linger around in the game in the AHL. Usually once an NHLer of his accomplishments can’t hack it in the NHL, they just call it a career. Half a decade younger than Talbot isn’t exactly young lol
A fair point, but on the other hand look at how many players have gotten bought out, signed a one-year league minimum prove-it deal, bounced back and then signed an absurd contract afterwards.
If he has a good year this year he could easily get overpaid again next summer.
I bet the way it was sold to him is that we're holding an open competition for the 1A and 1B spots. If he can't out play Talbot or Lyon, then to the minors he goes.
His confidence completely imploded.
But once he recovered he put up really good numbers in the AHL.
I wouldn't risk him in a high pressure market like Edmonton or Toronto again. But he has the talent to start. I think he could a solid backup and if he's learned to manage the mental game I think he can be a solid starter.
Given the respective ages, I'd be more confident in him than Talbot ending up as starter in a lower pressure market (another goalie the Oilers broke).
I don't see a world where Campbell wakes up on July 1st and thinks he has the luxury of choosing between multiple offers.
My guess is that when his agent's phone rang, he picked it up and answered "yes, he'll sign" before even hearing the offer.
This is fine. He put up really good AHL numbers last year after being sent down, and by all accounts he is a fantastic person.
This gives us injury insurance and it's basically a no-risk deal.
Don't think there are a lot of people mad about this. Just a little confused. Red Wings as a whole are really incomplete in some areas and desperately need to lose players in others. It all looks a bit messy right now
Don’t hate this. Literally making Monopoly money with this deal and it’s a low risk, high reward signing.
If he finds his game again, great. If not, then he’s staying in Grand Rapids and that’s that.
Low risk decent reward.
-finds his game and is a serviceable backup for league minimum
-doesn’t find his game and is 1b with Cossa in GR
-Claimed off waivers by another NHL team
-did I mention it’s 1 year and $775k?

Goaltron, defender of the Yserverse
Interesting… Campbell is in the AHL but Stevie said he didn’t want to run 3 goalies again. Gotta be either we make a move or Husso isn’t expected to start the season. I figured Talbot or husso would start the season in gr but cossa needs playing time so it wouldn’t make sense with Campbell. I’ll be interested to see where our goalie situation goes
As part of the Yzerplan, we are going to have 5 goalies in net at the same time. We may not score any goals, but hey, our goals against will be really low.
**So, we now have:**
Lyon, Talbot, Husso, Cossa, Augustine, Campbell, and Reimer if he extends.
Seven goaltenders (six confirmed), two of which are very good prospects drafted in the first / second round (Cossa and Augustine), three of which are defined starters (Lyon, Talbot, Husso when he was with STL), two of which are NHL backups / AHL starters at best unless they perform something magical at the elite level (Campbell and Reimer). Not a bad system
So you wanted to sign a 30+ year old player for 5+ years and a ridiculous price?
What Steve is doing is the right thing. We’ll get someone by trade, I have no doubt
The pride of Port Huron MI. Steve is collecting Michiganders like infinity stones
my family is from there and i lowkey want a jersey just for this reason but at the same time thats 200 dollars on a player who may not even get 10 games as a wing.

The reason I’ve always been a diehard Jack Campbell fan lol
Michiganders and Swedes 🤣 new defenseman is Swedish
He needs the reality stone, as in the reality is he needs to make the playoffs this year
Wish we woulda grabbed Matt Roy and Trouba...
Guess we're signing Lions now
Okay but imagine Sewell on the blue line
Jared Goff QBing the powerplay
Fans are already chanting his name during Wings games.
put him net, will take lot of space
Come to think of it if hockey was bigger with kids in the US, think of someone like Jamo going full speed on skates lol
![gif](giphy|l36kU80xPf0ojG0Erg) Lions Jack Campbell and Red Wings Jack Campbell
All 53 of them?
I had no idea our MLB could also play hockey!
They can't, haven't you seen Petry? 🤣
I mean if he figures his shit out, he could be good again. It's not physical problems holding him back.
Well considering what we do to most of our goalies, Detroit is not a great place to get your confidence back lol
No, but Grand Rapids might be, which is likely where he'll be playing.
But we have four this year. Each one plays every fourth game and plays to his potential resulting in a four-way tie for the Vezina. But honestly, the Campbell deal is basically no-risk, potentially high reward.
Let’s sign all the goalies
If we sign every goalie other teams will have to come to us with favorable terms. Like playing monopoly.
I will say this… glad we had depth last year
We've signed jersey numbers 33-36.The only 37 is Connor Hellebuyck.
It's a one-year sub mil deal. It's not a big deal no matter what happens.
And in a position where we basically are scrambling to fix the problem. I'd be willing to try anything
Cossa’s backup at worst, a reemergence into a middling starter at best, for league min what else can you ask for
So a goalie trade is coming or is this Cossa's 1b in GR?
Yzerman said they wouldn't run 3 goalies this year but he didn't say they wouldn't run 4
Just put two goalies in the net at the same time and run a shorthanded unit.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
I actually had to google that. I am now more depressed, yet just as surprised.
A goalie for each period and 1 emergency reserve guy for OT games.
lmao
A goalie for each period and 1 emergency reserve guy for OT games.
I mean, at worst he’s the GR backup. At best he finds his game again and pushes for starts on the Wings. Honestly at league minimum that’s a great deal I think
I don’t see a world where Campbell signs to be a minor league backup but I hope you are right. This is so strange
Campbell doesn’t have leverage to dictate where he plays, as evidenced by him signing a league min contract on a team with 3 other NHL goalies.
While u are right he doesn’t, this team clearly will not have 3 other NHL goalies for long lol
I would have expected retirement for someone like Campbell before he willingly signed AHL deals to close out his career.
He's half a decade younger than Talbot, he wants to play.
Obviously or he wouldn’t sign this deal. Just not usual that you see someone who has played at such a high level and made good money in the NHL opt to linger around in the game in the AHL. Four
Husso, Lyon, Talbot and who?
This entire post is about Jack Campbell. It’s even in the title of the post
I guess it’s just a grammatical miscommunication “3 OTHER NHL Goalies”.
Not everybody sees Cambell as NHL goalie ;)
He had a .918 and 2.63 GAA in the AHL last year. Cossa had .913 and 2.41. I bet they split time
I do if he has buyout money and another 775k to do so
I bet the way it was sold to him is that we're holding an open competition for the 1A and 1B spots. If he can't out play Talbot or Lyon, then to the minors he goes.
He just got bought out after being one of the worst nhl goalies I've ever seen last year The A seems likely for him
He isnt exactly in a position to pipe up about what he should and should not be paid.
His confidence completely imploded. But once he recovered he put up really good numbers in the AHL. I wouldn't risk him in a high pressure market like Edmonton or Toronto again. Battle of the old goalies. Winners stay losers get waived
I don't see a world where Campbell wakes up on July 1st and thinks he has the luxury of choosing between multiple offers. My guess is that when his agent's phone rang, he picked it up and answered "yes, he'll sign" before even hearing the offer.
Seems like it. We probably aren't re-signing Hutchinson or Lethemon so it makes total sense IMO.
iirc, Lethemon is going to Europe
Everyone has convinced me you leave your goalie in the minors until he's 40 for the maximum development
Probably both
I'm thinking goalie trade is incoming, with Campbell going to AHL to play with Gylander and cossa to be 1b for Cam Talbot
This is fine. He put up really good AHL numbers last year after being sent down, and by all accounts he is a fantastic person. This gives us injury insurance and it's basically a no-risk deal.
I think he even lost starter job in AHL this year
He had a .918 save percentage in 33 games. That's definitely good enough to backup Cossa.
He lost it at the beginning of the AHL assignment but got it back later
5 goalies + at least 3 prospects right now. 🤔 I don't think that's gonna be enough, I think we may need a couple more goalies just to be safe.
Honestly an insurance policy depending on how lyon plays
Signing everyone from Michigan
Sooooooooooooup
I don't know why anyone would be mad about this, seems like a reasonable, low risk dice roll on a guy that got a big contract just last year.
All of your Jack Campbell are belong to us.
I know this is just a GR play but it’s hard not to laugh here. We’re just getting all Michigan kids
Basically an AHL signing lol
Low risk decent reward. -finds his game and is a serviceable backup for league minimum -doesn’t find his game and is 1b with Cossa in GR -Claimed off waivers by another NHL team -did I mention it’s 1 year and $775k?
Makes sense as a backup for Cossa in Grand Rapids. If Yzerman signed Campbell before Talbot I probably would have Leafed myself.
Port Huron legend!!
Praise! Here’s to a port huron miracle 👏🏻
im debating getting a jersey cuz hes from there but at the same times its 200 on someone who may not even play 10 games.
An opportunity to buy a jersey from your home team with a name of a player whose from your hometown, can’t beat that!! If you’re from there anyway lol
my family is from there, its like second home.

Stevie learned his lesson from the goalie injury bug last year. Never go into a season with fewer than 4 goalies on the roster
League? Fucked. Guessing this is AHL depth
I don't hate it. If he ends up being serviceable then it's a steal and if he's not then it's really easy to bury the contract
Leafs: we can’t get any goalies so we’ll sign all the defensemen. Wings: we can get any defensemen so we’ll sign all the goalies 🤷♂️😂
6 LD and 4 Goalies. Just like every team, right?
https://preview.redd.it/b15e1lk5hy9d1.jpeg?width=1070&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=864904f00f35d0d57f41c18e7ec1839c77561a8b

A depth signing with potential to bounce back.
Well... Bare minimum, can't complain..must be going to GR
Good role model for cossa in GR
Campbell has a high ceiling so a change of scenery might be what he needs.
Fantastic value
Steve. A right shot D next PLEASE
I'm sorry WHAT
Smart idea, sign a goalie to play D, why not eh?
He'll lead the league in blocks!
Well, ok then.
So, he can play linebacker for the Lions and also goalie for the Red Wings? Dude is an absolute UNIT. /s
He is coming home
Huh
This is a good deal
I mean, sure.
I guess the more goalies under contract the higher the odds one of them will emerge as a competent starter.
Alright den I wanna see how this plays
Good insurance policy for grand rapids. With the injury history, might even get a call up. Leaves Husso or Lyon the odd man out.
LTIR meet Husso….Husso here’s where you’ll be staying next year.
From "run 2 goalies only" to 5 signed??
Another Leafs-Wings goalie link
Grand Rapids Calder 2024 book it
Maybe Husso is requiring surgery et al
4th line Goalie line
If he plays a single minute next season, the Wings will be in trouble.
I'm so 1000000% down with this. I love soupy.

Pretty damn good goalie for Cossa and Augestine to learn from. In Grand Rapids that is.
Looooool
Why does this team always sign old ass goalies? We haven’t had a single goal tender since like 2016 for Christ’s sake.
That's our 1A
Probably means Husso or Lyon are getting traded or Husso is headed to LTIR.
Yoo how many 35+ players need to be on one team… where’s the draftees from the last 7 years ?????!!!!
Leafs: we can’t get any goalies so we’ll sign all the defensemen. Wings: we can get any defensemen so we’ll sign all the goalies 🤷♂️😂
Love the Kane signing, but today has been a whole lot of dumpster diving. Oh well, could have been a lot worse.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Stevie, but at league minimum for one year - whatever
What?
Eeewww. Why
Jesus christ. Today is the worst
Uh oh, Yzerman is doing it again. He's signing a bunch of dudes.
Stop defending yzerman today until he gets us right w a trade. We have a right to be pissed rn
We still have like 100 days in the off-season
Yeah and no viable free agents are left. We don’t have infinite picks for trades!
So you wanted to sign a 30+ year old player for 5+ years and a ridiculous price? What Steve is doing is the right thing. We’ll get someone by trade, I have no doubt
Sir this is a Wendy's
Was this in response to someone?
Yzerman has no idea what he's doing at this point.
Reevaluate priorities if you’re ever whining about a $775k contract
I’m a fan of the Oilers and Wings You have to be fucking kidding me

lmfao, this is the big move we've been waiting for
Keep the carousel of mid goalies in front of bad D going baby!
