We need to move either Husso or Holl or both

SmartRick

With the Campbell signing I could see Husso on the move

[deleted]

Campbell isn’t an NHL goalie. Husso will get looks during training camp/preseason. If he can’t handle the work, then Lyon and Talbot will be the 1/2. A healthy Husso is still a viable (overpaid) NHL goalie. A healthy Campbell is not.

non_target_eh

Nobody is taking them unless we retain and/or send a pick

jackyohlantern

Trouba is likely our only serious addition at this point. Not a lot of cash to go around to do anything else.

SmartRick

Yeah that’s what I figured. Could be a multi player swap so 🤷🏼‍♂️

eciggy

Ghost, where ya goin??? I'm betting Campbell will get buried in the minors unless he wows the coaching staff. I don't expect to hear much about him once the season gets started. Talbot could get most of the starts, Lyon will be a solid backup, Husso is my wildcard here.

commando_rambo

I'm guessing we'll sign a random scoring winger from the heap of leftovers after the dust settles. A little surprised Ghost hasn't signed somewhere yet. but I could see him having to take another 1 year deal since he passed on what Yzerman was offering before FA opened.

Wakattack00

Honestly surprised we didn’t add any forwards so far. Maybe Elmer is gonna make the team too. Maybe we know Fischer and Sprong will be back to help the bottom 6 out. I’m kind of curious if we will see Danielson play on the top line with Larks and Raymo. Similar to when Larkin played on the top line as a rookie with Z and Gus. Idk just spit ballin but we def need a couple more forwards.

DirtyDan-Asseater

I’m still waiting on future considerations

bkaiser

The only future considerations is that maybe we should shop around a bit more next time.

TheEnglishNerd

Definitely can’t see us being better than last year. Not that I’m complaining. The deals we did today were all good value and none of the guys we lost were irreplaceable. We’re in a comfortable position with the cap going forward and we still have a lot of flexibility. Still wish we could have stabilized our goaltending situation and brought in some firepower up front but we’ll see how the season plays out

uknownick

We did stabilize our goaltending with Talbot, upgrade on Reimer We need a second pair RHD, bad

TheEnglishNerd

Talbot is like a million years old and we signed him for one year. When I say stabilized I mean getting a goalie who can play 50-60 games at an average or better level signed for at least 3 years.

Swayz0r5000

We signed Talbot for two years, Campbell was one. I wouldn't bet on us signing any goalie that isn't a legit all-star for more than 2 years - anyone else is just a stop-gap as we wait for Cossa or Augustine to take the crease.

TigatronX

Talbot played 54 games this past season and was on a team that had 3rd lowest goals against in the league. 27-20-6 1490 Shots Against 1361 Saves 130 Goals Against 2.50 GAA .913 Save% 3 Shutouts

TheEnglishNerd

Yeah but at his age how long do you think he can do that for? I’m hoping for the best but I don’t know how good our defense is going to be this year. I would much rather have overpaid for a better goalie. We haven’t had a consistent starting goalie since Howard and it’s hard for young defenseman to get established when they’re playing in front of a different goalie all the time.

TigatronX

He is signed for 2 years and he will most likely be sharing the time with Lyon so he wont need to play as many games. Why would they overpay for a goalie that is only gonna be slightly better than Talbot. last season statistically speaking he was one of the best goalies and he played more games than most. The plan is most likely to wait for Cossa or Augustine they dont need to waste resources acquiring a goalie who is just gonna be replaced in a few short years.

RonnieWojo

The 2024-25 draft lottery.

Dmckilla7

Trouba isn't happening, apparently that was NY stirring the pot.

SmartRick

Source?

BellsBeersy

Not saying this report is necessarily wrong (or that I want it to be wrong) but that website produces a lot of garbage from what I've seen

Caltroit_Red_Flames

This could have been an ~~email~~ post in the daily discussion thread

SmartRick

Could’ve been but it’s not. Any opinion

xmpcxmassacre

Likely waiting for other pieces to fall into place as we have some players to offload now.

Jeez-essFC

Well if we aren't getting Trouba, why the hell did we clear Walman as a salary cap casualty?

wonder_breadcar

Probably a trade in the works. We just don't know with who

PrimisClaidhaemh

Most likely so we could re-sign Kane AND make also a run at Stamkos, but with Stamkos gone I'm not sure there's anyone else really, so it'll just be unimpressive leftovers... which is what we're already seeing. There's always the possibility there is another trade out there Yzerman is working on, but I wouldn't hold my breath at this point. I think Yzerman wanted a second splash forward signing though. Didn't happen.

Valace2

Trouba would probably rather retire than b3come a Red Wing. That's how far we have fallen. He has a 10 or 15 team NTC, he isn't coming here.

SmartRick

This is his home town team he went to UofM your hyperbolic statement is crazzzzzzzyyyyy

Valace2

Do me a favor and look and see where he was born. Might be surprised https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Trouba

SmartRick

Yeah a 32 minute drive from Jefferson and Woodward.
