You can really see it in the enemy concept art too. There's a couple pieces with prominent G Virus eyes, though I guess we finally got that with Final Urizen. Though on that note I find it interesting that V has the DMC 1 callbacks while Urizen has the RE2 eyes, when Hideki Kamiya has said something to the effect that the mutated eyes were chosen back then because we experience the world through them and distorting them was a reflection of the distorted perception of reality caused by such a virus.
Urizen is literally Vergil's distorted perceptions made manifest so I have to wonder if the eyes were a deliberate callback to Kamiya's comment on RE2
Probably a coincidence. The eyes on Urizen's body represent his supremacy over the demon world, according to Daigo Ikeno's notes on Urizen's concept art (not the comment boxes, mind. But the design notes written on the actual art).
The faces and eyes on Goliath are the same. They're meant to show that he's the king of the beasts.
The resident evil vibes in DMC 1 is one of my favorite things about it. Love the creepy mood and a lot of the level design and soundtrack reminds me of RE4. Awesome stuff
It is, thus the similiarities with Resident Evil 4, I'm not sure if it was supposed to start off as Resident Evil 4 or not though. There's plenty of info online and materials on yt talking about this.
It looks cool and all, but it's clearly from the first stages of Devil may cry when it was planned to be a Resident Evil game at first.
So this cut Enemy would do better as a Tyrant from RE than a Demon in DMC.
Because the design evolved away from resident evil, concept art is just spitballing ideas but with extra work. They take those ideas and shape them to make something that will fit into the game.
I think it's cool.
But like others had said , this had a vibe of a Resident Evil rather than a DMC one. That been said , it could be a really interesting modern DMC boss battle.
Replayed DMC not too long ago and you can really tell it was originally going to be a Resident Evil game. The puzzles would fit in well to any Resi game, the Puppets are basically infected/zombie enemies with some slightly different animations.
I wonder what it would have been like if it stayed a Resi game? Would love to see it.

Thats just a resident evil enemy lol looks like super tyrant mixed with birkin
First DMC started as Resident Evil project, later it became Devil May Cry, but yeah, the Tyrant vibe is strong here.
I was gonna say "That's just a Tyrant with extra steps."

DMC1 Nobodies were literally just G-Virus enemy concepts.
Hello Griffon had his own share of body horror. Dude's head was a bunch of upper bird heads mashed together to look like a head.

What i never knew that? Is that true has dmc been a RE project??

That’s really interesting, thanks tequila joseph
Makes me think of a necromorph slasher or regenerator from dead space
That's not entirely right. This is the concept art of the final boss for the original RE4. The enemy here was supposed to be mutated Spencer.
Nice! Came here to ask what it was supposed to be.

make some adjustments to the design and it could definitely be suitable for a DMC demon.
Ramattra
Exactly what I thought.
looks like it can be a Bleach villain
it's literally one. Specifically , it's one of Grimmjow's numerón , the one that Ikkaku fought.
The one that had a true form that could drain even the flames from the old guy, right?
no , I am talking about [Edrad Liones.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GP0jQMxmmQ&ab_channel=BleachBankaiBR)
Hollow tyrant
Its not unused enemy, its beta design for mundus from when he still was mutated lord Spencer.
They didn't use this design though

Suffer as I have
"Sorry Dante, you need a few more battle pass levels before you can defeat me"
It reminds me of Sachiel, the first Angel that's fought in NGE.
yes!!
Looks like beta mundus
I think it's cool. But like others had said , this had a vibe of a Resident Evil rather than a DMC one. That been said , it could be a really interesting modern DMC boss battle.
Definitely getting resident evil vibes(yes I know dmc1 dev story)
Cool, looks like his arms could’ve been used for a dual weapon
Does look pretty cool. Reminds me of the final boss of Xenoblade X.
Resident Evil/10
Sorta has the silhouette of the final boss of Lucia's story in dmc2, huh?

Your comment got doubled
i know this was supposed to be for re at first but making a character with an extra pair of comically large arms is peak character design
Kinda looks like an scrapped angel from Evangelion mixed with a little bit of RE. I like it.
I know its more isnpired by RE but it wouldve been cool if they came back to this design in either dmc 5 or later RE games.
Nemesis vibes
I can see the Resident Evil in it.
Looks like Thanatos from Chaos Legion
This is some resident evil type shi😂
Looks like William Birkin's third form
Reminds me of Dynamis Demon form from Negima
This was an enemy ?! Looks like a legit major villain in the dmc games. Don’t know why he was scrapped.
Looks like a mix of tyrant, birkin and nosferatu
Makes sense. The first DMC was actually a failed RE game and was reused to make what we got today.
Looks like a demon version of to four-armed angel from Bayonetta, forgot what it’s called
This looks like a demon tyrant. It's pretty cool but I see why they didn't use it once it was decided dmc was gonna be It's own thing

I saw the chest and thought about Minos prime
looks like something youd see in smt
It’s cool looking… but it reminds me of a creature from resident evil hehe
Is that fantasy Adam fucking Smasher?
Who's Fantasy Adam and why is he fucking my boy Smasher?
He definitely looks like Mundus.
This looks like it straight up came from Cruelty Squad lol
Looks like it belongs in SMT
Nah, this ain't shit against the likes of Mara
Looks like an EVA
Looks like straoght out of Doom Eternal ngl
Those crossed arms emenate such smug energy
Ah for Christ sake. Love it when that happens. The Reddit mobile sub is about to get a stinker of a post. 😂
I swear I've seen this design before in God Eater
It would fit in nicely with the "House of the Dead" boss lineup
Lmao, I thought I'm in r/evangelion for a sec
There's a lot of early Resident Evil style concept art for DMC1. They included a bunch of it on the HD collection.
You know, as weird as it would be, I’d kinda like to see a Devil May Cry/ Resident Evil crossover. Just go full circle.
Looks like something they may have taken inspiration from when developing Bayonetta
Not that much
No
Straight from SMT
This just looks like a tyrant to be exact. It looks out of something in resident evil six or something.
Epic
This is the real Proto-Angelo
Isnt this just the final boss of Final Fantasy IX?
When she suckin ur nuts but u a gangsta
Would’ve been better than the damn spider ngl
Birkin?
I dislike it, too over-designed and mechanical looking, it'd be more at home in a resident evil game (I think, but I've never played one)
