Personally I think Rita was the best one for Dexter
Sure he could never be himself around her, but that was probably a good thing for Dexter lol
Being himself led to his sister dying and later being killed by his own son
Hannah wasnāt always best written character, but Iāve said this before and Iāll say it again.
Hannah was the only character in the entire series who fully knew Dexter and didnāt either 1. Hate/resent him for it and/or 2. Want something from his dark passenger
Rita: didnāt know, we love Rita, but the truth is she would have been terrified of Dexter had she found out. She knew he was dark, and probably suspected he killed Paul, but she had no idea what he truly was
Lila: maybe close second to Hannahās overall acceptance, but still wanted Dexter alongside her dark passenger
Lumen: wanted Dexter for help, then when she was better couldnāt be around him (but also would never betray his secret)
Dr Vogel: accepted him, helped create him, but was motivated in his behavior for her own research purposes
Zach: maybe also a close second with hannah and Lila, accepted Dexter, but also wanted training from him so technically did need his dark passenger. IMO his character was done dirty and would have been a good path towards a spinoff
Deb: tried but really couldnāt tolerate it, although did seem to come around towards the end, was willing to lie and kill for him, but destroyed herself in the process
Harry: created Dexter and killed himself because of it
Harrison: wellā¦.killed Dexter for it
Brian: knew and loved Dexter, but also wanted to exploit his dark passenger to match his own, wanted his own acceptance from Dexter
Hannah knew who he was, didnāt run from it, but didnāt require it for her own self interests outside of coming to Dexter with her abusive husband problems but she handled it herself anyways. Her character was far from perfect but she for sure was the most perfect for Dexter.
The poor writing and my hatred for Hannah aside, did you feel it was necessary to have Dexter have a love interest in the last 2 seasons? I felt seasons 7 and 8 had better things to focus on. Hannah could have been cut out entirely, and the show would have been better for it
Oh I for sure hear you. That actress is one of the hottest women who has ever lived, and her portrayal of Hannah had me sweating in basically every scene she was in. Like we all know Dexter made some dumb decisions over the course of the series, but Iām letting you off the hook for anything related to her, buddy.
I could see myself ending up with Hannah. Not only is she hot, she can cook.
But Lila would have me pulled into her web before I even knew what was happening.
Funnily enough, my actual sister would try to protect me from both of them.
Couldn't agree more. As I've watched all the seasons now more than once I'm starting to like Lila better. At least she was an in your face psychopath then randomly poisoning your food all sneaky and then marrying husbands to kill them to get attention. Like I wish Deb and her had a brawl. I feel like Hannah was the biggest asshole to Deb and I didn't get to see Deb get her revenge on Hannah the way I wanted to š
My issues lie less with Hannah and more with how the show ruined the other characters to fit her in, but here we go.
1. Dexter plans on killing Hannah, and then instead of doing that, he sleeps with her? Dexter, the man that only had relationships as a cover up just has sex with one of his victims? Now, I understand that his relationships with Rita and Lumen did change how he viewed sex, but that was just a stretch. He's disgusted by people like Hannah, who kill out of convenience (Zoey Kruger for example), but he sleeps with this woman instead of killing her? It felt so out of character that it disgusted me.
2. Hannah's character was poorly written and felt like just a less crazy version of Lila. At least Lila kept things interesting. Hannah was boring- when things like Laguertas investigation into the BHB, Deb finding out about Dexter, and Issak Sirko was all happening, Hannah was boring in comparison and fell flat. She was also the only storyline that could have been cut, and it would have given the season more depth (more time to work with Laguerta and Issak)
3. Dexter falling in love with this woman just felt like a cheap way to get rid of the heat the show got for Deb's storyline in season 6. At least to me, Hannah felt like a last minute addition to sweep the Deb being in love with Dexter plot under the rug after season 6 aired and got backlash. If they're not going to go through with it, then that's fine, but the way Hannah was written seemed so last minute, it just felt like a cover up so they didn't have to deal with it.
4. Hannah tried to kill Deb, and then Dexter takes her back! So the same man that killed his own brother to protect Deb, is somehow so madly in love with Hannah (who he has known for less than a year) that he just forgives her for trying to kill the most important person in his life? That was so out of character it was ridiculous. If Deb had died in that car accident, all of us, including Dexter, would view Hannah as a villain, but since Deb survives, it somehow makes it okay. Dexter would never. The second she went after Deb, it should have been lights out for Hannah. Again, bringing her back for season 8 just felt like the show's way of not having to address Deb's feelings for Dexter.
5. Hannah is a serial killer. The show does a damn good job making us sympathize with one serial killer, but when the underlying message of the show is that killing, even if you're killing bad guys still makes you bad, why are we supposed to sympathize with Hannah, who kills anyone who is in her way? The show tried too hard to make us like her by giving us all these sob stories, but both seasons had better things to focus on.
6. Let's talk about both seasons. Season 7 had a lot going on, and Laguerta deserved more screen time for the storyline she was given. Hannah should have been cut so Laguerta could have more investigation screen time. Season 8 was just ridiculous. It's the final season, and instead of focusing on the fact that the Morgan's just killed a high profile cop (a captian of all people), they just drop that and focus on Hannah's fugitive storyline. The show is not about the McKay family. It's about the Morgan's, and the season 7 finale really set the Morgan's up to have a great final season, and then they just destroyed it by bringing in this character and not focusing on the plot. In both seasons, Hannah takes away from the main plot (laguertas investigation and essentially her murder). She doesn't add anything to the main focus of the story. She's a side plot that somehow got turned into a main character because the writers are idiots.
7. Deb brings up that the dark passenger is bullshit, and he dismisses her, but the second Hannah says it, he falls to his knees and accepts it. Why is Hannah, this girl he just met, suddenly more important than his sister, who he has cared for and loved deeply his whole life?
8. Dexter's line of thinking: I'm a serial killer and because of it, everyone I love dies. My son deserves better. Oh, I know. I'll just leave him with another serial killer. I'm sure he'll be fine. Seriously, what the fuck?
9. Dexter spends 6 months and the entire first half of season 8 trying to get Deb back because he can't live without her, and then Hannah comes back, and he's like peace out sis, I'm going to Argentina. Like bro, you just said 3 episodes ago that you couldn't let her go. He would have never left Deb for anything. They changed his character to fit Hannah in the story.
I agree with said points, and I just finished the episode when he sleeps with her rather than killing her lol. In the beginning of the following episode he starts with *āChemistry. I hear some people have it. An attraction that canāt be quantified or explained. Is that the reason behind this loss of control?ā*
But my post is focused more on the viewerās toxic(?)/unpopular opinion love interest for them. Ik I didnāt word that well, but I hope the message is clear lol.
1. It does feel out of character, but I think that was the point.
2. True.
3. Also true.
4. I would agree, but at least Dexter turned her in, even though he really didnāt want to. He probably shouldāve just killed her, though. I mean, Hannah wouldāve preferred death over being locked up. Dexter just couldnāt let her go, though.
5. Agreed.
6. Agreed.
7. People often take the same advice differently depending on whoās giving the advice. Deb telling him the dark passenger is bullshit = my naggy, overdramatic sister not understanding me. Hannah telling him the dark passenger is bullshit = she already gets me, and Iām gaga over her, so maybe she has a point.
8. Agreed. But he really wasnāt of a sound mind when he made that decision.
9. Itās been a minute since Iāve watched S8, but wasnāt he a bit hesitant to go until Deb finally gave her approval?
100% agree. All she did was single handily kill Dexter's character years before he actually died. Notice how in New Blood he doesn't even care that she's dead. The only one that truly mattered to him was Deb and Harrison. That's it
So true. It was ridiculous that hand Harrison didnāt have a dialogue about her but then the writers didn't provide a dialogue driven relationship between them, which was really annoying. Harrison didn't come all that way worth a single purpose to otherwise get caught up in what seemed like a high school teen dream from the CW with him so invested in his school, coach, et al. What a waste New Blood turned out to be from the perspective of not allowing for the aforementioned lack of ongoing dialogue between father and son with son holding onto a grudge until near the end, for about a minute.
I loved Doaks, his whole character is just animated and expressive AND funny af -the fist seasons with him were my favorite. He also has the best lines, and dialogue. Great character/actor
Dexter loves his blondes lol
And his brunettes.
We all do
Watch Chuck as well my guy.
Will do !
That final kiss...š
Personally I think Rita was the best one for Dexter Sure he could never be himself around her, but that was probably a good thing for Dexter lol Being himself led to his sister dying and later being killed by his own son
I love her
Setting controversies aside, I personally think that Yvonneās peak in terms of looks was during her time on Dexter
Nah it was in Chuck
def chuck.. badass spy agent baddie.. yes pls
I liked it when dexter dropped the DNA swab when he was getting a sample. š¤¤
I can fix her
This.

I donāt think the love interest was necessary, but I think what Dexter got out of Hannah most was acceptance
Lila. I'll pardon her tits.

I still have the biggest crush on her because of this show lol
Sheās so fucking hot I would have fallen for her too
Nope. Not a fan.
IM THE NUMBER 1 HANNAH APOLOGIST

Hannah is by far the worst character in the entire Dexter universe
Couldn't agree more. As I've watched all the seasons now more than once I'm starting to like Lila better. Sheās not that bad cāmon š
She's literally the worst. I could write an essay on why she made no sense and was just stupid to the show š¤£
I understand *why* you and others may feel this way, but now I REALLY want to see this essay lolll

I read this somewhere else
That was also me
Okay I thought I was going crazy. I was like, either I read this before or this is the most insane episode of Deja vu I've ever had
Yes I wrote it under the what part of the show makes you recoil post.
For me it's Lumen.
She's imo the worst love interest in anything I've ever watched or read ever.

Not sure why your comment is downvoted I upvoted it lol

Look, I'm straight, but if I was a guy. Lila 100%, although probably a stupid choice, and would end in tragedy.
Iād drink her bath water
