Yeah, the moment they put the finished metal bit in another mold I got annoyed. I think maybe the metal part was supposed to be fully encased in the final product, but they didn't think to elevate it from the surface of the mold so the metal was sticking out looking all jank as shit. who knows, but they def fucked it up on that last step regardless.
If they had actually made a better ear tho it would have been incredibly dope. Could totally see a cosplayer low key hiding their earbuds in something like that.
Not DIWhy so much as DIlazy
At the beginning I thought they were gonna embed the airpods into something that would hold them against your ear and that they'd basically reverse engineer headphones.
I have the same problem, but no sense for fashion. There are special little [clips](https://www.amazon.com/ICARERSPACE-AirPods-Ear-Hooks-Upgraded/dp/B0BYNJVLQJ/ref=sr_1_2?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.I2CyX4yt3pUBDxhspn4Krb92DscSJLCzcN3Dix4PnTfi_fIKCXE55NpW0iWWGIf8V_a7OAuwGl_ZEYN6GYG_uNuVFcAOHEU5w9h0j7y2ufSrg6iY16zUpAsFzcCY90yW-JWYp0ZbWWWpzoczM0bsZfXoIP8CehTXpjFdJoMShElNAxcLXQkjKoyFISmWAOJaRNxp0lEn8D5F8kBfl12kVz9ZQJRGcjKCZI2Q7L1VNGshHC8araywfgRC0uE3YlKi1ZpZmx9H09KaYXxgadtY8BdMDxJpTqzBeAYBZGAGtbE.QGG7Kxo5gzpnc4Hp10t4xhQopYQaOcUSNVnQVRmxsho&dib_tag=se&keywords=ipod+ear+holders&s=aht&sr=1-2-catcorr) you can get that keep them in.
If you are willing to move away from airpods, there are also a [whole range of cheap alternatives](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Over-Ear+earbuds&rh=n%3A12097479011) that integrate a similar clip. Personally, I don't like the feel of the earbuds in my ears at all, so I use [headphones that wrap around the back of the head](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=back+of+head+headphones&i=electronics&crid=13NZG7W3OBD0K&sprefix=back+of+head+headp%2Celectronics%2C309&ref=nb_sb_noss_2).
That's what's sometimes amusing about the vids...they go from "This is gonna be so dumb" to "actually that looks kinda cool", to "aaaaand now they ruined it"
Yeah, I studied silversmithing as a hobby years ago and I don't remember my teacher (or any of the advanced students) ever doing that. I don't see what it would accomplish.
My headcanon is that it did exactly fuck all and they know it but adding that to the video makes more people comment on it which causes it to go more viral.
I also studied for a bit and... Probably a weird attempt at tempering (idk if this is the word in English?) and polishing?
We used to do the tempering bit (reheating the piece until red) and then dipping into acid and then water. And then the polishing part which usually involves a spinny circle machine, but I guess they thought they could achieve both with things you have at home at the same time? Which make no sense, because you'd usually file the piece a bit after tempering but before polishing (to get rid of the really ugly soldering done here).
But it comes out dull (sort of like after tempering) and looking like shit, so they could have probably skipped that bit.
On the other hand, fire!
Importantly, it was a *rotating* jar of burning wool. Which further adds to the perplexion.
Though I do suspect that it's just another one of stupid nothingburger gimmicks often employed in these videos.
I can tell from your comment that you're not an audiophile. So basically, burning steel wool was done to 'burn in' the attachment. Basically, the iems have been burned in for a couple of days and the sound will have changed. To get the attachment 'burned in' to the same degree as the earpods, this step is required. Otherwise if the attachment was not burned in while the pods were, the sound would be shit. This is the best I can explain for a 'non-audiophile'.
I had custom molds made for ear plugs for sleeping. They shot some weird purple stuff in my ear and was totally fine. They were amazing and lasted for a long time until I eventually lost one traveling.
You can also try memory foam earbuds. Before you put them in your ears you squish them to when they get back to their size it takes the shape of your ear. They also cut noise incredibly well
They all knew. The people who made it, the model, the editor. They all knew it was fuck ugly and amateurish. But they wasted so much time, money, and material that they had to just put it out.
They all knew.
You can't really tell just by looking at the side, because videos can be inverted (so they could invert a shot but not the other, for whatever reason). You'd need to look for things like facial features.
If they tone matched her ears, it'd be fine.
Seems like it'd be a useful thing for people doing cosplay or something where you want to have an earpiece that blends into your costume - having security that blends in, live crowd work where there's a spotter giving the actor instructions, etc. Not really for "in case your AirPods tend to fall out", but more for having a solution that blends in.
Haha, you're not wrong. I guess, as a runner, I use [headphones with around-the-ear stuff](https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B078T9HFDJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) so they're more stable. Being an elf would just be my dweeby kind of cool.
I have the Airpods Pro, which has the 3 sizes of tips. None of them help keep the Airpods in my ears. I can't imagine trying to do sports with them, because they would never stay in long.
I've got some cheapo earbuds from Amazon. The type where the silicone cup goes inside the ear hole. Works well enough for me when I'm at the gym moving around a lot.
If you play a sport with a lot of movement though, you'd probably want something that loops around or behind the ear for better security.
I bought replacement tips off amazon for my air pod pros that are a memory foam material. I squeeze them smaller, stick them in my ear and they expand for a nice tight fit.
Memory foam tips. I use "Comply" brand medium size tips.
Silicone tips make my ear canals hurt a LOT after 20-30 minutes. Either that or they just slip out. Can't stand silicone tips.
They just push themselves out of my ears. Only thing that works for me is headphones. The old iPhone style used to sit in my ear a bit better back in the day.
If only we had earphones with some kind of wire that would stop them from falling off and being lost. It could even connect to the phone so the earbuds wouldn't need a battery. Too bad no one has developed that technology.
Or how about using cups that go over your ear which are connected with a kind of bridge in your head? It might also reduce Irritations or infections of the ear
The buds I use have a little silicone flair that braces it in the folds of your ear. Works pretty well tbh. There's also a sportier version with a wider flair and it doesn't look silly or stick out of your ear. Even without going back to wires there are solutions still.
I do kinda miss wired options being common though sometimes. I have a few super high end pairs at home that stay at home but a good travel pair with a wire that's not on or over ear would be nice again sometimes.
TIL that there is a [100 pages long manual on how to use the Austrian train system](https://www.oebb.at/static/tarife/en/guide_for_travelling_with_oebb_in_austria/Resources/pdf/1501696139__en.pdf), and as if this weren't enough, now you are telling me that simply using Apple AirPods involves an elaborated process of manually manufacturing a pair of Commander Spock ears made of an intricate mixture of metals, rubbers, and plastics? Go fuck yourselves. I am taking the plane and listening to my music over loudspeaker.
Usually when I watch videos like this there's a moment where the whole process clicks and makes total sense and I'm impressed by the end result.
That didn't happen here.
Because why admit apples product doesnt work for you when you can spend countless amounts of time and money moding it in a way that makes it work, but you seem weird.
It isnt like there is an alternative to apple products or something /s.
DiY channels have missed the main aspect of DiY. I dont have all this shit lying around my house. Some silicon here, some Metal there and all the mf equipment.
Seems like allot of work when you could just get rid of the overpriced air pods and buy much more affordable ear buds that fit your ears better js 🤷🏻♂️
How about Apple stop making shitty designs and actually make the product stay on your ears. I bought beats fit pro and they last longer, don’t fall out and yes they don’t have wireless charging but so what. They have better battery life than airpods
Could have stopped at the silver. Ear decorations like that sell like crazy at the local renaissance festival.
Agreed. The silicone is extra ugly.
Yeah, ruined at the end
If we boost this high enough, a repost bot will post a chopped version that "ends too soon" Let's make that happen, for mental health reasons.
And has that shitty song playing over it.
Soon ends too
You still believe in the repost bot? My parents told me it isn't real.
First I was like ”why? Looks cool thats why!” And then I was like ”why?”
Isn’t everything in the sub ruined???
So much effort to just give up at the last hurdle and ruin something that could have been pretty nifty looking.
Right? For a minute I was totally with them, and then the goo happened
But she ran her hand over it as if it was beautiful
I’m high on edibles and idk why your comment made me laugh out loud
> idk why your comment made me laugh out loud > I’m high on edibles
Hmmmm. Maybe
Ok but, follow me here, what if it was clear resin with little flowers and stuff in it?
I could get down with that, good thinking!
If they had actually made a better ear tho it would have been incredibly dope. Could totally see a cosplayer low key hiding their earbuds in something like that. Not DIWhy so much as DIlazy
Maybe the silver itself would be uncomfortable, but he could only "soften" the area where the ear touches the metal.
My AirPods won’t stay in bc I have tiny ear holes and I would pay for ear decorations that also kept my AirPods in
Yeah it would be cool, but this kind of jewerly probably isn't that helpful with that
At the beginning I thought they were gonna embed the airpods into something that would hold them against your ear and that they'd basically reverse engineer headphones.

Yea, I use the chunky headphones. Don't care if they look bulky, they are more comfortable and have amazing sound.
ah fuck you just made me realize that I can finally afford fancy headphones and the one store I could go try them on at closed.
Or cheap sony earphones with 25 hour battery life and real buttons that hang around your neck when you're not using them.
My small ear canal brethren..😢 I understand your pain
Have the same problem. Got headphones with a clip that clips around the ear.
That's what's sometimes amusing about the vids...they go from "This is gonna be so dumb" to "actually that looks kinda cool", to "aaaaand now they ruined it"
You just explained "rage bait content" in one sentence.
That's the formula that gets people to comment
Or at least kept going and painted the latex, applied it properly. But yeah, the metal frame would be a big hit for sure.
This definitely a r/yesyesno situation. It looked like a pretty good piece of jewelry, (not great, but good) then they ruined it.
Hard agree. But then it wouldn't be DiWHY.
The solder job was terrible, too, though.
Agreed... although this could have very so nice if the silicon were actually skin-coloured and cut properly.
Wtf was the jar of burning steel wool step?
How else are you supposed to BURNish it? ![gif](giphy|Lopx9eUi34rbq|downsized)
A thirst trap for pyromaniacs.
A fire trap?
Fire pit.
Tarnishing it or cleaning it. Not sure which.
Would it really do anything except leave a thin layer of soot?
Soot adds character though
Shtep in toime!!!
Arise now, ye Tarnished! Ye dead, who yet live!
I doubt you could even imagine it.

Looks cool for the clicks. Nothing better for burning metal in glass, than adding stress by spinning it. Mmmmm…. Hot, sharp, shrapnel
Importantly, it was a *rotating* jar of burning wool. Which further adds to the perplexion. Though I do suspect that it's just another one of stupid nothingburger gimmicks often employed in these videos.

![gif](giphy|Yavo0SXhZYhSo|downsized) cant tell if shit posting or not
do you even audiophile bro?
A “burn in doesn’t real” argument is gonna break out in DIWhy and I’m living for it
i always torch my ears before listening to music just to be sure
No no you just have to listen to ELO’s Fire on High on repeat for twenty four hours to burn in
Rookie mistake. If you burn in using Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire you end up with more bass.
Instructions unclear, went to Taco Bell My ring is on fire

No. That's how holographic soundstage works.

Because it is the nice and accurate information about this process.
And I look forward to living in the future where AIs are busy shitposting instead of enslaving humanity.
I was expecting a "and shove it up your butt" at the end there.

Centrifuge from hell
Asbestos Fleshlight
Yes
Complete with jump cuts to avoid showing what it looked like next
That's a good idea. Usually I just pour the acrylic into my eardrum but it's a bitch to get back out
There are some in ear monitor manufacturers that make custom molded sleeves for AirPods
I had custom molds made for ear plugs for sleeping. They shot some weird purple stuff in my ear and was totally fine. They were amazing and lasted for a long time until I eventually lost one traveling.
That's (seriously) not a bad idea. My ears are too small for most earbuds so that would probably solve that
You can also try memory foam earbuds. Before you put them in your ears you squish them to when they get back to their size it takes the shape of your ear. They also cut noise incredibly well
I know this is a joke but acrylic like that actually boils bubbling hot when it reacts after an hour or so. So anybody reading this don’t try at home.
WHAT?
What? Speak up!!
If it would have turned out good looking, I would have accepted this as a professional costumer making something neat. But no, that's such shit.
They all knew. The people who made it, the model, the editor. They all knew it was fuck ugly and amateurish. But they wasted so much time, money, and material that they had to just put it out. They all knew.
Whole mold of the ear. The final product doesn't sit in the ear at all and had large gaps. I can't tell if it's even the same girl.
it's a different ear. the mold was on the right ear, end product worn on left
You can't really tell just by looking at the side, because videos can be inverted (so they could invert a shot but not the other, for whatever reason). You'd need to look for things like facial features.
Lol they are different girls, that's so weird.
And different style of AirPod
The silicone is bad but I kinda like the idea and métal work. Good idea bad execution to me 🤷🏻♀️
/r/GTBAE
Looks like shit at the end
That soldering was disgusting
If they tone matched her ears, it'd be fine. this had so much potential
Yeah, ngl, I'm kinda into the idea
You could just get headphones or elf ear decorations, why combine them lol.
She's got that look that says "at least it isn't pictures of my feet today."
Molds on molds on molds
Seems like another scam run by Big Resin Inc.
Pretty neat. I can't wear Airpods, because short of gluing them in, they will never stay in my year holes.
Better off buying ear buds with replaceable silicone bits that go inside the ear for a snug fit. Buds like that normal come with 3 different sizes.
I have the Airpods Pro, which has the 3 sizes of tips. None of them help keep the Airpods in my ears. I can't imagine trying to do sports with them, because they would never stay in long.

Comply is a very good brand for these. They make tips for tons of different in-ears.
Memory foam tips. I use "Comply" brand medium size tips. Silicone tips make my ear canals hurt a LOT after 20-30 minutes. Either that or they just slip out. Can't stand silicone tips.
Try foam tips. Dekoni and Comply both sell them. I have the comply ones and they’re fantastic
They just push themselves out of my ears. Only thing that works for me is headphones. The old iPhone style used to sit in my ear a bit better back in the day.
>they will never stay in my year holes. I have the same problem when I play football. Can't keep my month guard in to save my life.
I always lose mine when they go to the day cleaners.
These comments have me week

Great idea. Get some foam and do it. Don't forget to film everything and patent the invention.

That model is going way too hard for wearing a giant elf ear thingy.
I like the way she caresses it lol
Elves, am I right?
Another 1.18 minutes of my life wasted
This had so many more steps than I thought it would
live long and prosper 🖖
Wow, these elf ears really make girls hotter.
Fantasy writers have been saying that for decades!
Looks like shit. Could've been good though.
Ok ngl, I kinda really like it. Would kill at cons
Never ever ever do this. Sincerely- medical professional.
I just buy headphones 🎧
Live Long And Prosper🖖
Went from looking pretty cool to dogshit in less than 30 seconds lol.
Actually kinda neat
All that work just for it to look like shit
This has to be a parody, right? How does it not pull out her hair in the beginning? Must be a parody. Eugh,
That's fucking ugly.
Alexa show me someone with too much time on their hands

A lot of work for something that kinda looks like shit
Usually when I watch videos like this there's a moment where the whole process clicks and makes total sense and I'm impressed by the end result. That didn't happen here.
Oh I like the idea, it looked like crap only after they added the silicon
I would add 3 more molds just to be safe.
That’s awful.
Or use headphones
The metal ear looked kinda cool..and then nooooooooo
So much trouble for the end result to look like shit.
Surly there is an easier way to make that
yeah but that will not give you a bazillion views.
What was with the fire drill
Ok, the execution is awful, but I kind of want something like this for my hearing aids now.
It was okay until it wasn't 😂
Make sure you don't skip the critical -stick-it-in-a-jar-of-flaming-steel-wool phase
I hate this shit, yet I watched the whole thing
no
Seems an awful lot of work for what could be achieved with a dab of superglue.
Now they just gotta do the other ear!
You know what. I was on board until about the last 2 seconds. Happy Thursday!!
Because why admit apples product doesnt work for you when you can spend countless amounts of time and money moding it in a way that makes it work, but you seem weird. It isnt like there is an alternative to apple products or something /s.
Did anyone else think that it was a big glob of wax coming out of her ear at first?
...or just buy better headphones? Haha
Wow that was way too many steps just for it to come out looking like garbage.
No hot glue gun, No DIY
I don’t care if this is an unpopular opinion, but this one is cool as fuck and looks really nice
All that work and they don't even paint it.
Bullshitness is oozing out here
The design is very human.
I just put them on upside down and that works.
I loved it until the final step... Why...
I only have to make 17 molds to get this?!?!
Can I please have my time back from watching this?
This actually had me sold all the way up until I saw the finished product in action
Nice! It doesn't fit AND it doesn't match her skin tone! A+ guys!
That was ridiculous.
It's cool when it's just the silver filigree
Why I watched this whole thing🤷♂️ ![gif](giphy|lQCV6K36nJfJYNxXbC)
I didn’t want to shit on it but then I saw the end 🤮
Now scientifically ship it in such a way to /divert/ sound and you got it. Or just do it as custom jewelery designed to hold un earbuds.
so many goos in this
Did that initial resin pour look dangerous to anyone else?
The idea is actually pretty cute, just purely done here.
2 mold steps could have been skipped
Iv seen some stupid shit in my life but this is up there at the top.
Ngl im gonna save this so I can make props for cosplay
I kinda thought elf-ear AirPod holders might be cool but they should look a lot better than *that* result.
Looked cute when it was just metal
DiY channels have missed the main aspect of DiY. I dont have all this shit lying around my house. Some silicon here, some Metal there and all the mf equipment.
I was hoping for a better result ![gif](giphy|l3mZrLxM4iZaQlvNe)
If you showed this to half the people in the high-school around me they would buy this shit like crazy
And she never put it on again.
5-Minute Crafts be like
What the hell is wrong with people here? I love that, its beautiful
If it matched her skin tone it would have actually been cute.
Seems like allot of work when you could just get rid of the overpriced air pods and buy much more affordable ear buds that fit your ears better js 🤷🏻♂️
Can I just pour the resin in my ears and call it a day?
What a sad sad life Jane…
WTF just buy a headphone
How about Apple stop making shitty designs and actually make the product stay on your ears. I bought beats fit pro and they last longer, don’t fall out and yes they don’t have wireless charging but so what. They have better battery life than airpods
What the hell did I just watch?
This is so much worse of an outcome than I thought
All that for that?
