Tinea versicolor fluconazole daily x 7 days

Pie_O_My4900

Thank you that is definitely what I have! I’ll ask for it when I see the doc. Thanks so much for the help.

lextraextra

It does look like a fungal infection. Did that doctor not give you any anti fungal medication? As a first line you might try using Nizoral or another anti fungal shampoo as a body wash. Put a layer on, leave for 5 min, wash off.

Pie_O_My4900

The 2 treatments were; LAMISIL topical cream and APO-TERBINAFINE tablets. The topical cream was very difficult to use as it’s so hard to reach areas of my back! Thanks

Pie_O_My4900

You rock, thank you! Is the shampoo something I need to be prescribed? I’m gonna go see the doctor tomorrow. I won’t give up hope yet. I also was wondering if I missed a day or two with the APO-terbinafine would it completely ruin the treatment? I will admit I missed a day or two as I didn’t have my meds with me and I couldn’t get them. Thank you so much for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I use a silicone spatula when applying pain cream to my back cause with pain I have limited mobility

Asleep-Design-6874

You can buy something like this to apply it to your back https://www.amazon.com/DOWMI-Lotion-applicators-Types-Brush/dp/B081JL9P8R/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=FD3VQXWJ7EAH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.uTYPFdBvTTWmO-_1hs2fAFp_7s3QX1hwUWfxf9-Eu3hL6UNwA0BIOdlYwCtGktd1qoBFETNDR4-X6_uEfCZmob6dqxV3QBUXQ6yGcJd40Rc1gtSODVZ_-i9hCVD6ImFhWCC0WjO6ODa0yUn_mmlS93VuYB3RTJPkOOQFT_Wi8ZVKNn21uRS0Y-8teSNwU7ckGllnnd3qxy7JnOKr74RcTQ.sPGRCgnZydWPhZDegd6o2h7Pw22pdj5ZRyNfdqwNPF0&dib_tag=se&keywords=back+lotion+applicators+for+your+back&qid=1712537917&sprefix=back+lotion+app%2Caps%2C95&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

I will let you know exact medications prescribed to me when I get back to my house. Thank you for getting back to me I appreciate it. I will update you shortly.

Don’t need a biopsy for this. Oral antifungal meds will help, even the areas you cant reach with the topical tx. May need a month of the oral antifungal if shorter tx doesn’t work in a couple weeks. Topically I use antifungal medicine and triamcinolone ointment (scratching noted in the pics) as the combo brings down the itch, inflammation, and redness fast. Terbinafine (Lamisil) is a first-line therapy for tinea versicolor as it has a cure rate, is tolerable and inexpensive. (usual dosage for adults and teenagers is 250 mg daily x 2- 4 weeks). I do a month usually. Itraconazole has a better cure rate than griseofulvin which works but then relapses and the fungal infection come back. Diflucan is another good option and can be used once every 72 hrs for ten doses. Some even dose this weekly. I like the take one skip 2 days option. Tea tree oil body wash or adding a teaspoon of tea tree oil to a bottle of bodywash can help, or antifungal bar soap. Best antifungal bar soaps: 1. Tinea Soap by Terrasil: $14.95 good for tinea versicolor 2. Defense Antifungal Bar Soap: tolnaftate antifungal $15.99/4.2 oz bar 3. Battleskin Tea Tree Soap Bar: $9.79 4. Katialis Soap (Sulfur, Zinc Oxide, & Salicylic Acid) $5.95 (antifungal & antibacterial) 5. Tea Tree Oil Soap Bar $6.99 “Tinea” Versicolor (Pityriasis Versicolor): —is a chronic fungal infection caused by the yeast Pityrosporum ovale. —discolored patches on the skin —caused by yeasts (specifically, Malassezia species) —common on chest, upper back, upper arms, neck, abdomen —pityriasis term is used because the scale resembles bran —Although sometimes called “tinea versicolor,” technically the term “tinea” should be reserved for dermatophyte fungal infections like ringworm (tinea corporis). Tinea corporis/ringworm is caused by dermatophytes, while tinea versicolor is caused by yeasts)

I’ve taken a 30 day treatment with the oral anti fungal and it still seems to have not gone away. Should I ask for a different oral anti fungal? Thanks so much btw. Very informative!

SangitaCPatelMD

Yw. Yes I’d try another one. I’ve had good success treating this with Diflucan 150 mg every 3rd day for 10 tabs plus the soaps and tea tree oil or turmeric oils during the day and antifungal oinments and triamcinolone ointment at night. Yeasts can slso by killed by bleach baths for fast relief and can help with itching. To do dilute Bleach Bath: Mix 4 ml of 2.2% household bleach for every 2 liter of water to create a 0.005% solution. Soak trunk /limbs in the bath for 10-15 minutes and wash off with water Check bleach label as they vary in strength. Adjust bleach ml needed based on concentration, to use to make a 0.005% solution.

BigBaIIsMD

Disinfect your clothes, avoid triggers and reinfection. However mainly the Hypopigmented areas will take sometime to re-pigment. The yeast produces dicarboxylic acid/azeliac acid which stops your melanocytes cells from producing melanin. The yeast is gone but the skin will take time to get it's color back so don't worry if its not going back to normal 100%. I would only see a doctor back if to have more lesions that previous and if they are still scaly.

islenacaribena

Id get this as a kid. Bathe with selsun blue, the original anti dandruff shampoo and let your skin really lather in it before washing it off

Pie_O_My4900

I’m gonna try this out! Thanks for the suggestion.

Confident_Ad2622

Same! Had on my neck… terrible

jmarti54

Tinea versicolor. Get the golden selsun apply as lotion for 30 days after shower every night. The fungus will die in that time frame but the even color won't return until about 5/6 months.

BreeandNatesmom

Put a shampoo with ketocazinal ( sp?) On your body where the spots are before you jump in shower. Wait about 2 minutes then rinse.

Elvis_Take_The_Wheel

Tinea versicolor, a very common minor fungal infection of the skin. Did your doctor really not give you anything to treat it or provide any advice? That's bizarre. Anyway: Wash with Nizoral shampoo in the shower every day until it resolves. Once it does, wash with the antifungal shampoo at least once a week prevent it from returning. Good luck!

nycdmv

Dude - take Selsium Blue and spread it all around. Wait like 15 minutes. Then wash it off. Do it like two or three times a day. I know what you are dealing with. Only thing that cured it for me. Err… I’m not a doctor so this is not medical advice.

kleptokarlsteels

if they’re referring to ketoconazole (it’s the only antifungal shampoo i’m aware of) you can get 1% over the counter and it’s called Nizoral. there is also a 2% strength version that requires a prescription. according to the prescribing information, it looks like 2% is what should be prescribed for the fungus that you have but you should confirm that with your doctor.

Advo96

What treatments have been tried, exactly?

Pie_O_My4900

I will let you know shortly when I’m back at my house. One was a cream and the other was an oral for 30 days. I’ll give you exact names. Appreciate you getting back to me.

Pie_O_My4900

The two treatments I have tried is; LAMISIL - topical cream and APO-TERBINAFINE tablets. The topical cream was very difficult as I have areas of my body that are almost impossible to reach as it’s on my back.

Advo96

Another poster already wrote it but yes, ask for fluconazole tablets

Golden-Nishco-doodle

Using Nizoral (Ketoconazole shampoo)will help greatly if it's fungal. I had it on my scalp and my brother had it on his torso like you. He was miserable. If it was hot or muggy it would flair up. Nizoral changed our lives. This looks so much like my bros chest.

kia-audi-spider-legs

If it is fungal, head and shoulders (or any kind of medicated, anti-dandruff shampoo - H&S is cheap but there’s probably better ones that are less commercial) should improve it if you wash every other day for a week or two.

Echterspieler

Tinea versacolor. They have a soap on Amazon you can get. (Just search tinea versacolor soap) what I would do is get in the bathtub and lather up with it and sit there for 20 minutes or so and then rinse. Repeat daily till the soap is gone.

Educational_Cream911

Bathe in Anti-fungal shampoo constantly I believe Amazon has Nizoral ketoconazole without RX. Use tea tree oil. Bleach baths also help. This is what will save you. It is not available in America through prescription but used very often in other countries. You can buy it online. https://buy-pharm.com/flucinar-buy-bidl3178497.html For reference every skin condition that isn’t solved with traditional meds, this did the trick. Doesn’t hurt to try.

Pie_O_My4900

I just want to give a big thank you to everyone who has commented. There are so many responses so it’s hard to get back to everyone. Seriously THANK YOU GUYS!! I’ll have updates on how it goes once the treatments start to work.

Individual_Tea_4783

Get Nizoral shampoo and use it as body wash. This has happened to me before and it goes away quickly

moriah_nocarey

Tinea versicolor for sure. Moisture and humidity caused yeast overgrowth. Avoid sun,the recommended treatments stated above will do the trick. Nizoral shampoo as body wash as well as the flu. Body cream. Avoid body lotions and products with oils for the time period.

quixoticvelocity99

you would see a big difference if you stopped eating sugar for a while. medicine works better

lorenzothe

Wash your clothes, towels, sheets and cushion covers, car blanket basically anything that could come in contact with you. Wash hot and use a dryer or dry in the sun, not in a mouldy heap. Not saying you would but when I lived in a place that was damp it was difficult to control fungus.

mitronazo

Go carnivore for 2 months

905Vegan

Sulphur soap on Amazon will work!

No-Government2205

Hey have you figured this out or found something to help? I seem to have resistant tinea and fungal infections too and oral meds don’t seem to do much ! I’m worried I’m gonna be colonized forever 😭

buttered_kat

NAD but this kind of looks like when I had urticaria. Have you tried taking an antihistamine, like benadryl?

Pie_O_My4900

I just search a photo they look very similar to what’s happening to me. Although they look red in my photo because I was scratching really hard when I do that, they become puffy and more reddish. I have it on my body constantly, it makes the pigmentation of my skin have white blotches. Did you have white blotches all over constantly? Appreciate you getting back to me. Thank you

buttered_kat

Yes, I had white bumps all over my legs and stomach. VERY VERY itchy. Do they come and go? I get it at random times and it was actually misdiagnosed as a fungal infection before. I would have a few itchy bumps that turned into a bumpy rash over my legs and stomach. Now again, I'm not a doctor, but maybe bring it up to see if it's possible? Whatever it may be, I hope you can get an answer soon and get some relief. Good luck!

Pie_O_My4900

No they don’t come and go it’s like a constant change of my pigmentation. I’ll definitely bring it up to the doc! Really appreciate it! Thanks so much for the help.

BaylisAscaris

Have they confirmed fungal infection with a biopsy?

Pie_O_My4900

No never done a biopsy. They all just looked at me and said that’s a fungal infection. I have seen multiple doctors about it. Should I be asking for a biopsy. I plan to go back to another doctor or dermatologist! Appreciate you getting back to me.

BaylisAscaris

A biopsy confirm it is fungal. What treatments have they tried? If you have been on steroids and it is triggered by an infection (fungal or otherwise) it might be too deep to treat topically so you need oral medication. Your rash is an immune reaction to something, it could be an infection (fungal, viral, bacterial) it could be to an allergy (food, medication, soap, etc.) or it could be autoimmune and triggered by something like stress. Treatment is different depending on the cause. * Have you been sick recently? * Started any new medications, tried a new food, new product (laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, lotion, etc.)? * Do you have a personal or family history of allergies, autoimmune conditions, or sensitive skin? Do you have hyperlinear palms? * Have you been around anyone with a similar rash or who has been sick? * Have you been in close contact with children, animals, or anyone with a fungal infection?
