Having to take out the phone to look up a word sucks. Also, trying to hold the page open with one hand while trying to drink with the other isn't great with a physical book.
This comment raises so many questions. Do you not just go off of context clues when you find words you don't know? Does that happen frequently enough that it affects your decision of whether to read a physical book vs a digital copy? Are you taking so many sips of a drink while reading that holding a book with one hand is also a consideration of whether to read physical vs digital?
I'm not trying to come off as a dick or anything, I go with either format depending on my mood, but I know at least for me, I have neither of those problems. I usually hold a book with one hand. Right hand, with thumb and pinky in the front and the rest of the fingers behind.
I should have clarified that the book in question is Infinite Jest, also known as a "ten-pounder" in the industry. It most definitely requires a good dictionary for pretty much every paragraph, despite the context. Also, yes, holding a heavy book open and reading pages at weird angles while trying to catch enough light is a hassle and why I prefer my Kindle.
Ah! Context matters! I just looked that book up and have added it to my list to read. Probably just gonna go with a digital copy based on your description.
I prefer electronic files. As a kid, I had hardcopy books, but braille takes more space. Having books on my tablet is definitely more convient. I still miss getting books from my state library. Yes!!!! Reading a physical book hits different.
Yes, to me that's the only way to read a book. To feel it in your hands and physically turn the pages.

Have you really not heard that said before?

Absolutely. A book is a full sensory experience.
Sigh, yes. Everyone pretty much. You're not 'superior' because you like a paper book. It's normal and common
Sigh, no. I prefer digital.
You're not 'superior' because you make condescending reddit comments, either.
Was that even implied? I don't think so
It wasn't implied by OP either, yet you chose to make your comment. I don't see what other motive you could have had for that behavior.
