Guys, you don't need the arrow.
Don't hit her in the face and she doesn't fly away. It's an easy, quick, simple fight. Pawns don't matter. YOU cannot hit her in the front. Stick to her butt and whack away, she disappears, gives you a final 'You've done a great job with all of my challenges' and then dissolves into dust.
Pawns 100% matter 50% of the time.
I have fought her a few times and made VERY deliberate hits to her ass. Each time pawns beat the shit out of her face and tits. I will get her down to about 1 bar and randomly a pawn hit to her face will make her pissed and she will leave.
So. I always do it as an archer just incase (because) she will always try to run away.
Same here - I had one run where I was fiddling with equipping the arrow properly and didn't hit her *once* and she still flew away after a few bars of face hits from my pawns. Not sure why it triggers for some people and not others.
Yep, the clues are on the vase that you have to carry and the stone plate when you first see her. Notice that all the damages, marks and weapons are only on her back rear.
I tried using just one mage pawn and the sphinx got pissy because she used an AoE lightning attack, and was basic attacking her head. She left once the fight concluded.
I did it again solo and it worked out fine. Hit the back legs, if you don’t do damage on the last bar of health, hit the front legs OR the small of her back but NOT her human area(chest, face).
Overall pretty fun fight, probably the most enjoyable so far.
My only advice would be to have a look around the starting area using an interactive map for seeker tokens to see if you’ve picked them up or not, it’ll help you narrow down which was your first. It immediately jogged my memory of where my first token was. I put a portcrystal down; started the quest, travelled back to crystal, picked up the token, then the portcrystal and finally travelled back to the sphinx.
Yeah my rogue pawn repeatedly cast Skull Splitter on her face and it made no difference. I just slapped her butt while everything else was going on and it worked fine
I just made my pawns wait and smacked the hell out of her legs lol Got the knight guy you're supposed to fight to attack her too though, I accidentally hit her while fighting him...
I shot her with the unmaking arrow while she was doing her “i’m leaving” dialogue and she didn’t die and left. Didn’t have an inn save so couldn’t fix it.
This comment is the golden tip. I made a save backup before visiting her and I can say for sure that 3 times I tried to kill her hitting her head and she didn't die those 3 times. I had to search on the internet to understand what I was doing wrong, I thought it was a bug and then... Wow... So, if you hit her in any part other than the head using the unmaking arrow, she will die. With or without giving her speech. That's the catch, it's where you hit her. On my fourth try, I hitted her chest instead of her head and it worked middle speech. Finally.
I’m glad i made a save backup before using that arrow. And even then, i had to retry 4 times before i finally got it to work properly.
But you do get a special dialogue when she’s in aggro mode. If you use the arrow when she’s already flying away you won’t get it
You have to attack her first before she flies off and then she gives a dialogue about your greed, when she starts attacking You/Your pawns then you can shoot her with the unmaking arrow. I aimed for her back legs and it worked.
You forgot something:
LOOK IF THE RING OF DERISION IS STILL EQUIPPED!
This can ruin your kill.. I was wondering why I didn't do any damage and on her last health bar, she flew away...
Now I gonna have to do 4 more ng+
Some of her quests are really finicky, too. Like the one where she asks you to bring your beloved, I put them on the pedestal and then got worried they were slightly too far away, so when she asked "Are you sure?" I said "No" thinking I could go and adjust it. But that just insta-fails that quest.
Idk how long they fight for but I was still doing Wilhelmina’s quest, I made sure to get this done beforehand cuz she’s not available after so I just picked her up and ferrystoned her back and put her back where she belongs. Whole time ulrika was trying to do jump kicks at her while I carried her lol
Does the Sphinx have different dialogue if you bring two? Her usual dialogue when you just bring one includes something along the lines of "But only one? I think you could have more."
The one asking for the number of solves riddles:
Does it include the riddle itself i‘ve basicly solved already or not? It does not so i got it right.
The hardest riddle is the parent one, would‘ve never figured it out if i hadnt seen a fuck to of sphiinxparent, sphinxfather and sphinxmother pawns in the rifts.
Pretty sure I killed her while having the ring equipped. Probably better to unequip it anyway. I just remember going out into the world after and being confused why I couldn't hurt anything until I realized I had the ring on still, and this was after I had already killed the Sphinx.
You don’t need 2 portcrystals. After she leaves the first location you should just take that portcrystal with you since there is no reason to go back there.
You should, however, use the second one she dupes for you to place at checkpoint rest town so that you can more efficiently forge the finder's token for NG+.
Last point about the Unmaking arrow is wrong. If you shoot her with one at her wings she will die. It doesn’t matter if you’ve initiated combat with her or not.
Source: Me, with the pawn sphinx badge.
Post also says to be careful about pawns. Which I had a sorcerer and mage with offensive spells blasting her all over, and a thief skull splitting everywhere. I, the player, only attacked the legs and it worked.
I did get her warning message twice despite only hitting her back legs myself, so pawns can mess with it somehow. I was using Fighter at the time so I'm fairly certain none of my attacks managed to reach her chest/head.
I shot her directly in her left wing a week ago when i did the quest, i hadn’t initiated combat and it worked perfectly fine. Maybe the hitbox is a bit wonky so shooting her in the back is probably safer, but the wing does work.
You dont really need to bring two portcrystals as you can get two portcrystals as rewards (assuming you give the first one you get as the item you cherish the most, and why wouldnt you its the hardest thing to get).
I kind of wish you could set partcrystals and trying to teleport them just sends you to a random spot on the map. Or maybe just make it usable 'ferristones' instead that do that.
Wakestones are NOT hard to find. You can get infinite amount of Wakestone Shards from low level Pawn Quest. Sit on a bench to past the time. Rinse and repeat. If anything it's more time consuming and expensive to forge alot of Eternal Wakestones.
Just by playing normally, I'm at 60 hours in and at the end zone (unmoored) area in ng+, I have like 20 wakestones. Didnt went out of my way to collect them or anything and only used 2 wakestones so far and I have 20 sitting at the storage.
Also the fact that you cant sit on a bench for 5 minutes and skip 7 days, everyone in the morgue will revive anyways.
If the end reward of the Sphinx quest was an eternal ferrystone, I'd gladly do it tho. I have bunch of ferrystones as well (like 20), even though I'm constantly using them with no refrain.
Also I think the chest in Melve in Ulrikas house respawns with a wakestone shard each time after a while.
Not sure if this is a bug or not but haven't seen anyone else mention it. Also not sure how long one has to wait for it to respawn but every time I go back the chest is lootable again.
Many chest that contain wakestone shards respawn. Magick Archer lady's house, Elf Mayor's house, Vermund's Morgue. Those on the top of my head but there could be some more.
I did most of her quests but have no idea where my first seeker’s token was. I checked Maeve and that little military outpost and got nothing. Ran all over the city and still nothing so I just gave up. Eternal wakestone seems pretty lame tbh. Now an eternal ferry stone on the other hand….
FWIW I'd just follow the road from the starting point on the loop southeast towards Vernworth checking every spot. Mine ended up being the one in the basement ruins near the north end of the river.
Though there are two sphinx areas, one portcrystal is enough since she doesn't travel between them and only goes to area 2 after 1 is finished. Just take the crystal from 1 and place it at the new location
The issue I have is if only 2 or 3 people are dead it tells me the eternal wakestone cant be used here and it happens all the time. It is super annoying. I end up having to use regular wakestones.
You have to do it outside, similar to a ferrystone. It will revive the people in the Morgue as well and state how many people will be revived. I don't know why they decided to do it like that but yeah.
I think it's SUPPOSED to be an Eternal Wokestone (you know, like all the other forgeries), but the game might be bugged. I highly doubt it's intentional like OP said considering the coding for the Eternal Wokestone exists.
Also, someone said you do get an Eternal Wokestone if you tried making a forgery after a certain point in the story. Can't test that myself, Brant's still waiting for me to go to the damn dinner.
It works. I've done it myself. Made two copies and used one just in front of the morgue in both major cities because some quest npcs were dead. Kept the original in storage so I can copy it again if needed.
Guys if you are on new game + and find a seekers token on that save that will count as your first seekers token for the riddle
This helped me out a ton because I had collected so many and was in my fourth run I even had a seekers token still in storage from my last playthrough but it counted the one I picked up on my new run that I picked up
I purposely use the one at the top of the tower next to Ulrika’s house in Melve as my first token each playthrough. Easy to remember and in the town where I place my first port crystal anyway.
I’m stuck there now because all I remember about my first seeker token is that it was in Vermund and near water. Checking running along the rivers are incredibly annoying too because some Pawns have a tendency to feed themselves to the Brine.
I don't think this works, I've seen enough people in this sub say that those tokens disappear on NG+.
I haven't tried it personally, but I wouldn't count on it.
Pretty sure the finders token is entirely bugged. First playthrough I couldn't remember and skipped the riddle, found it later near the start but almost definitely not my first. NG+ I specifically noted the first token I grabbed and when I went back for the riddle the finders token wasn't there; I found it nearby in a spot that was more likely my first token from the first playthrough, miles away from the finders token in playthrough one.
This games autosave is brutal, man. Upon discovering her in her second location, I climbed on her out of curiosity only to be amused with how she kicks you off.
Well, the third time you climb on her aggros her and also triggers an autosave. Mother fucker.
Game has two save-states. The Inn Save when you rest, and the Auto/Manual save.
The former is what you'll use if you royally fuck up and really want to try again.
~~Don't think that works for the Unmaking Arrow though, that one is unique.~~
You can backup your save manually in Windows though and create actual savestates that way.
It does work for the Unmaking Arrow. I've seen someone else mention that it only works if you did an inn save *before* getting the arrow, but that wasn't the case at all for me. I reset back to the inn and it was still in my inventory.
I HATE the auto save system for this reason. There are SO many times I'm like 'I'm gonna try this dumb thing. I'll save first to reload if it doesn't work out' and the game auto saves right after I do it 50% of the time. Whether it be quests, fighting someone, jumping down a cliff, etc. It's infuriating how inconsistent it is. You still can't rely on auto saves, but you can't rely on being able to go back to your manual save (and from the Inn isn't ideal since you can easily go hours without an Inn rest in later game areas)
I'm pretty sure they did that on purpose to discourage save scumming. I kind of appreciate it though after spending 1/3 of my baulders gate 3 playthrough loading a recent save mid fight or mid dialog.
I did the same, but only because the game has you choose options you want and on top of it, it's rng if you even get to choose at all
I understand that's how it works on DnD but on a singleplayer game being at the mercy of Rng it's just not for me.
Unmaking arrow. Plenty of efficient ways to go about it.
I started the fight by punching her legs, and once it started, grabbed the arrow from the chest, and equipped it, and just shot her back side (no regard for wings and stuff) and it worked within 20 seconds of the fight. Sphinx has a lot of moments where she is standing still during the fight itself so I just did it after the first wave of attacks but it can be done earlier too. The chest with the arrow was my last riddle so that was the only way since I didnt buy it from dragonforged.
I’m not sure about shooting her before works but a lot of people have stated it does.
Also pawns literally dont matter in the fight. It’s all on you not hitting the human side/face.
One poster did mention, but the ring that makes you do no damage screws you so hard. I honestly didnt know my first time around why I was so weak against the sphinx (tried to kill first time around, but loaded inn save) until I was fighting two cyclops afterward and i was not deleting them with blaze of pyre. Take off the ring!
Nah pawns definitely do matter, specially if you have a thief with skull splitter, I tried 3 times before I decided to just kill my pawns and solo the sphinx
>***I've heard of people restarting their game thinking they permanently stuffed it up, not realising they could load from Inn.***
Consider alt+f4 if on pc as well, id imagine the auto save will put you back before engaging in combat with her. It saved me from nadinia being assassinated when i picked the wrong npc lmao
Alt f4 worked for me on the first Sphinx riddle, but not on dragon plague. Seems like it should work on most things that don't work explicitly make a save.
You dont need to be in a Fight for the arrow to work that is wrong. In my ng+ run she was just sitting there waiting for my answer and i shot her in the back and she died. But you cant shoot her human body parts just like the normal fight you need to hit her beast parts.
One thing I find helpful (and kinda funny) that not many people mention; the first time the Sphinx flies away, when she relocates to her second location after you get half way through her quest, you can grab onto her as she flies away and she’ll taxi you all the way there.
You can pick up the portcrystal you’ve previously placed there, finish the final of the first five riddles, hop on to her back, immediately complete the quest that requires you to find her again after the ride, and then slap the portcrystal down again. Also useful for breaking into Battahl early before finishing Vermund’s main quests!
Huh, I hit her a couple times as she was leaving after I answered all the questions.
Then I just immediately shot her with the unmaking arrow maybe 6-10 seconds later, long enough for me to equip and draw it. Hit the wing.
Everything worked as normal.
I'm in NG+ and started the sphinx quest again. I'm on the token riddle. I didn't pick up another token since starting NG+, and I went back to my first token from my first playthrough, and nothing was there. Do I need to pick up another?
I want to add you have to shoot the sphinx in a non human part for the unmaking arrow to kill it. I did all the steps but shot her in the face with the arrow and she just flew away. No eternal wake stone.
Well the title isn't a spoiler, because the sphinx is in trailers and we knew it had a quest from promotional material.
maybe it could have then been tagged to prevent people from coming in, but if you knew you haven't done sphinx stuff yet, don't wanna be "spoiled" on it, why....did we click on the post at all?? I feel like there's a certain threshold where the observer has to be held accountable. It is entirely possible for an individual to control what they do and don't see.
Man, reading this kind of detailed guide instead of just going in blind would completely ruin a game like this for me. Oh well, different strokes for different folks I guess
It depends for me, if I'm genuinely stuck and can't figure out wtf I'm doing, then I'll have a gander but usually I run in a letter Jesus take the wheel. I can't even find the Sphinx 😂
In your post it says you can revive with the eternal wakestone, is that accurate? Not saying it isn't but I don't believe I was able to use mine when I died.
Would be very happy to hear otherwise though.
Regarding the Unmaking Arrow: be sure to shot her in the animal part of the body, not the head or boobs. Even that allegedly divine intervention arrow is not enough to kill her if you annoy her.
You do not need the arrow. If you only hit her back and wings you can fight her normally. If you hit her human parts she will fly away. Pawns don't matter.
I was confused by the timing of the fight, as soon as you complete the last riddle you can attack (without even opening the last chest—not the huge one, the normal one). Note that the last 5 Riddles' order is randomized, you cannot choose which one to do like in the first location. So sleep at an inn (or house) whenever you can.
The fight wasn't anything too special: my Arisen is a Thief, spammed "Wait" to stop my Pawns from acting and just kept hitting the Sphinx on the, well, ass with Headsplitter.
When she (>!doesn't!<) die, she drops, **on the floor**, some gold and a key to open the big-ass chest containing the Eternal Wakestone.
The champion quest was weird for me (the one where you have to beat the champion of the sphinx by throwing him down the cliff). Well my pawns immediately attacked him and beat him down from the cliff with warrior knockback hits and then i couldnt talk to the sphinx anymore and i didnt find that xhampion guy again, i came back wayy later and the champion was at 1hp infront of the sphinx and i killed him and the quest proceeded
* You can hit her tail or body area until she has no more health. This is hard and you will need to have pawns that only have healing spells and/or need to be very careful.
I dont know if its a bug or something but when she was down 10% she did not take any damage there anymore only way to kill her was hitting her in the chest or wings.
if you use the wait command on Pawns, they not only stay in place and don't engage in combat, they will still use support spells like healing and buffing. But I can understand not wanting to risk it: you are one accidental button-press away from undoing the wait command and the Pawns attacking
Honestly it makes sense when you consider other consumables, but the name does not.. I’m now trying to think of there was possibly a better name to give to it that doesn’t imply it would last forever, when it clearly does not 🙃
Yopu absoutely can use the Unmaking arrow immediately when she is flying away the first time BEFORE the fight, you just shoot her wing and she dies and it counts. I know because I did that.
I hate the quest where you have to find that ugly ass guy in checkpoint rest town. That was only “riddle” I failed (finding a guy is not a riddle, Sphinx master of riddles, I shouldn’t have to tell you that). I was literally even using a guide, so was prepared. She showed me a picture for like literally a second, and turns out the guys both had scars on same side of their face (assumed it would be that, ok I saw a guy with scar on right side, at end they both have scars on right side, one was missing teeth though, which I swear the image she showed me never opened it’s mouth). I feel like that’s not a challenging request, she just didn’t let me look at the image long enough to figure out. I was even gonna take a picture to make sure, did not have enough time to even unlock phone. It’s quick.
She will show you the person as many times as you need. Just re click the dialogue when talking to her. I had the same problem and almost picked the wrong one, went back to see if I could re view the person and yes I could. Hope this helps anyone else.
When I dueled the guy with the ring of derision, I tossed him off the cliff and she got pissed and flew away. Anyone know why? I thought that was the only way to defeat him.
Am at that point where I gave up because I can't for the life of me remember where I picked up my first Seeker Token and I wanted to go for the trophy but only realised too late that it was one of the "Riddles"
So now I need to play either a totally new game or do NG+ as apparently while Seeker Tokens do not reset (i.e if you had 90 before you still then have 90 in NG+) however the 1st token you pick up in NG+ (so no 91 in total) counts towards the Riddle as the new 1st location.
Hmm… weird I only attempted one time and didn’t know you have to try to kill her right away after finishing the last question since she says she’s leaving. I ran behind her to open the cheat real quick got out my bow with wayfarer and used Unmaking Arrow and panic shot randomly and it still killed her.. maybe I was over-leveled? It was back that got shot though..
Keep in mind the eternal wakestone doesnt revive yourself, its for fixing dragonsplague which isnt a problem if you check your pawns' eyes and reviving pawns which you wont ever have to do once you hit level 40
So its actually a pretty shitty reward and a massive waste of time
a few tips for the riddles:
the riddle about your love just bring your main pawn over
the riddle to carry the vase. leave the vase, grab ther guy in bathall near the player home and teelport back. when you let him go youll pass the riddle.
the first place you got a seeker's token: if you cant remember you can fail this without failing the riddles: you miss out on the ferrystones and the achievement, but it resets in new game cycle.
the riddle asking how many riddles you have done is just for the number youre on, not how many you passed.
when you finish the first 5 riddles you can jump onto the sphinx and shell fly you to the frontier location.
in the end when she goes to fly away you need to do enough damage before she leaves to aggro her
You don't need the arrow. Make sure your setup is right and you'll be fine. Plugging in a guide I made: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW6KFgqURhE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW6KFgqURhE)
Remember that if you fail a riddle, you can go to the menu before the save and exit without loading. You just need to save before giving her the answer.
You have around a 3-second window. Everyone says that the auto save is brutal, but I never had any issues reloading due to that 3 seconds. The window is here for quest finish and quest start. Use it wisely.
Yes. The only difference is extra dialogue. It means nothing for achievements. You can watch the extra bit of dialogue online.
This is not like Baldur's Gate 3 where tiny choices matter.
I heard the eternal wakestone can only be used outside and only affects people in an area around you. I've just been hit with dragonplague and have aruond 90 dead that I'd rather not be dead, can someone confirm that using one will in fact revive everyone in the morgue?
My recent experience doing the Sphinx riddles:
1. I recommend starting the riddles early just to get a free portrcrystal (or two). Go through the Ancient Battlefields to reach her. Choose Riddle of Madness, pick up your main pawn and put them on the pedestal, talk to Sphinx, get free portcrystal. Then immediately choose Riddle of Conviction and give her the portcrystal. Bam, two portcrystals for free. Put one of them next to the Sphinx to make the other riddles easier. I can't think of any better item to duplicate on a first playthrough than a portcrystal, having an extra one is more helpful than anything else.
2. The *only* riddle that is timed is the Riddle of Rumination where you're given one in-game week to find your first Seeker token. You can make an inn save before choosing the riddle if you're not confident, chances are though you picked one of the easy ones in north Vermund. If you're *really* stuck though, what you're looking for is a "Finders token" and this item can be duplicated so you can just get someone to gift it to you.
3. For the Riddle of Wisdom it doesn't have to be a Capcom pawn, any pawn named SphinxMother/SphinxFather/SphinxParent works. I had conflicting info on that so just confirming.
4. Here's how I killed the Sphinx: I brought a bow and the unmaking arrow when I went to answer the final question. I answered the final question correctly, she unlocked the chest and then said the game was concluded and she's leaving. She has a long "getting up to fly" animation so I tried attacking her butt but she didn't react at all. So I equipped the unmaking arrow and shot her in the butt as she was taking off. This marked the quest as complete and she fell back down, posed and faded away, leaving behind the Key of Sagacity and a bunch of gold. The quest log description implies I failed the quest but I got all the riddle rewards and the eternal wakestone, so maybe the intention was either you get 10 riddle rewards *or* the eternal wakestone? I'm not sure what was supposed to happen here.
ah that a shame i was expecting it to be ETERNAL as the name implied well let's hope they bring the eternal wake stone to infinite usage and an infinite teleport stone in the next DLC
It is still an amazing reward. The normal wakestone CANNOT be duplicated. The eternal wakestone can be. So you have infinite wakestones at the cost of $30K for each duplication.
Ok so i am fairly new here. While randomly exploring i stumbled into the mountain shrine, way ahead of my time and she's sitting there. Question. Are all those riddles answered in the same place? From what i read online, the moutain riddles i could answer 2 of the riddles (give my main pawn, then duplicate the port crystal) but, do i need to finish all riddles right there and then? Or can i just finish these 2 riddles (as i currently have no port crystals) and leave 1 port crystal right there to come back to them later? I have a timed quest i need to finish xD
I have a question regarding the rumination Sphinx quest where you have to find your first Seeker's Token... where the hell did the game start? I've completely forgotten but assume it would be somewhere around there.
please someone answer this im quest locked with trying to find my first seeker token lol also if your ng+ does it count for your first run through or your second?
It’s your very first seekers token from your first run. Seekers tokens do not respawn in ng+. Best thing to do if you don’t remember where you found your first one is to use a seekers token map and go and look for each one by one until you find a finders token. I’d recommend creating a forgery of the finders token as well.
It's not the one from your first run. At least, not if you found the Finders Token on your first playthrough. I know exactly where I got my first one, and had been told from people on this subreddit it would be the same one as the first playthrough. When I checked it wasn't there. However, it was where I found my first one on NG+.
It's possible, im currently doing it again on my third run so i hopefully can confirm that later. I know some rewards for this have changed already, instead of the port crystal i got the forgery version on the 2nd time doing the quest.
I'd start by looking up where the ones around Melve and maybe Vernworth. It's no guarantee though, I could swear my first one was around that area but I was 100 tokens deep into a guide before I finally found it!
You can also just give up after seven days, the reward for that one is *okay* but nothing unique. AFAIK you can fail one riddle and still progress her quest line, you just miss out on the achievement
This video helped me out with the token. Start from the beginning and check every spot, mine was the 4th I believe. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkPr8BKdrt4&t=151s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkPr8BKdrt4&t=151s)
I had the same problem so I found a map with all the Tokens listed and started looking around the beginning area. I finally found it, but it took awhile. Sort of an unfair quest considering how open the world is and how many tokens there are. If you're not prepared for this quest, it pretty much comes down to luck.
Did all 10 riddles perfectly and was prepared with archer vocation and unmaking arrow. I started attacking her as soon as I finished the 10th riddle and she just took off and never stopped flying away. Didn't think about making an inn save prior to that 10th riddle, so I screwed myself. Maybe some day I'll re-do it in NG+.
I don’t think this is intentional and I disagree that regular wakestones are hard to come buy — each never hired pawn awards shard for SPENDING A DAY with that pawn.
This is fantastic to know! Thank you! I wondered why we have to kill her. I’ll give this a shot tomorrow. :)
So what you're saying is you need to pound her ass?..... Do you know how many people this vindicates?!
My body is ready.
Honestly I'd rather just use the arrow. It's not like there's anything else in the game worth using it on
Talos, if used right at the beginning he won't even destroy the bridge Edit: But you get 2 arrows anyway so it doesnt even matter
I just gave all of my pawns the wait order and took her on solo.
Same here - I had one run where I was fiddling with equipping the arrow properly and didn't hit her *once* and she still flew away after a few bars of face hits from my pawns. Not sure why it triggers for some people and not others.
it could be maybe timed? I was killing her slow because I was trying to be very careful and deliberate. Perhaps we took too long?
Her head is invincible if that's where you shot her. That's the real final riddle and there are hints to it on the murals and the vase.
From what I’ve noticed, you have to shoot her in the safe spots. If you just Willy Nilly shoot it you can fuck it up.
you need to shoot the wing
You forgot something: LOOK IF THE RING OF DERISION IS STILL EQUIPPED!
If you bring 2 beloveds they start fighting eachother
yeah I brought 3 and 2 started a catfight was pretty funny
I now have a reason to do the sphinx quest again thank you
Hahahah thats great. Do they actually fight to death? I ferry crystalled one out of there asap
Yes, and you still pass.
If you bring your main pawn she basically says "Good enough, but I was expecting you to bring all of them."
I wonder what happens if you put your main pawn and 1 or 2 hired pawns
SHe just says the so many? Why you're greedy line. But the pawns don't fight or anything.
You can put your pawn on
I just dropped my main pawn there and it worked lmao
The one asking for the number of solves riddles: Does it include the riddle itself i‘ve basicly solved already or not? It does not so i got it right. The hardest riddle is the parent one, would‘ve never figured it out if i hadnt seen a fuck to of sphiinxparent, sphinxfather and sphinxmother pawns in the rifts.
This is a good point. Make sure you unequip that ring. It does not unequip it by default.
Why 4 more ng+???
Probably to get the pawn badge.
I set Sphinx as my pawn quest and it got completed in an hour or two. A lot of people must have taken my quest as the opportunity to kill her
Yep
Pretty sure I killed her while having the ring equipped. Probably better to unequip it anyway. I just remember going out into the world after and being confused why I couldn't hurt anything until I realized I had the ring on still, and this was after I had already killed the Sphinx.
Yeah on my first try, my Pawn did enough damage to kill her. But on my second try, it was not enough...
Can you farm pawn badge enemies yourself? I thought it had to be someone else hiring your pawn for it to count.
Yes you can earn the pawn badges for yourself. Most of my progress on those badges has been my own kills and camping.
You can do it yourself. I got the cyclops badge for my pawn when he was with me.
You dont really need to bring two portcrystals as you can get two portcrystals as rewards (assuming you give the first one you get as the item you cherish the most, and why wouldnt you its the hardest thing to get).
If you try this trick again on ng+ you get a partcrystal, which is the forgery version
The chest still duplicates the portcrystal. The Trial of Madness is the one that gives you a Partcrystal in NG+
I kind of wish you could set partcrystals and trying to teleport them just sends you to a random spot on the map. Or maybe just make it usable 'ferristones' instead that do that.
Both of those would be extremely funny.
Wakestones are NOT hard to find. You can get infinite amount of Wakestone Shards from low level Pawn Quest. Sit on a bench to past the time. Rinse and repeat. If anything it's more time consuming and expensive to forge alot of Eternal Wakestones.
I'd rather farm the gold and stumble on the shards than going into the rift and sitting on the bench honestly
I have bunch of ferrystones as well (like 20), even though I'm constantly using them with no refrain.
not everyone. i slept for 21 days and only guards and vendors revive. there are 70 dead npcs still on the morgue, including unique ones like ambrosium
My first was by checkpoint rest town. Luckily I took a screenshot of my first seekers location without even knowing I would’ve needed it.
FWIW I'd just follow the road from the starting point on the loop southeast towards Vernworth checking every spot. Mine ended up being the one in the basement ruins near the north end of the river.
Before anything, mark on your map the first seekers token you find in your playthrough. That is all
Dude Im glad I stream so I could rewatch where I first picked one up cause I couldnt find it.
Though there are two sphinx areas, one portcrystal is enough since she doesn't travel between them and only goes to area 2 after 1 is finished. Just take the crystal from 1 and place it at the new location
You can also ride on her back to the new location and just set that portcrystal down when you get there.
I tried to tell people you can forge the eternal wakestone and they didn't believe me I forge 3 just incase

So temporary until patch.
It works. I've done it myself. Made two copies and used one just in front of the morgue in both major cities because some quest npcs were dead. Kept the original in storage so I can copy it again if needed.
Guys if you are on new game + and find a seekers token on that save that will count as your first seekers token for the riddle This helped me out a ton because I had collected so many and was in my fourth run I even had a seekers token still in storage from my last playthrough but it counted the one I picked up on my new run that I picked up
I purposely use the one at the top of the tower next to Ulrika’s house in Melve as my first token each playthrough. Easy to remember and in the town where I place my first port crystal anyway.
I’m stuck there now because all I remember about my first seeker token is that it was in Vermund and near water. Checking running along the rivers are incredibly annoying too because some Pawns have a tendency to feed themselves to the Brine.
Even bigger brain play, just forge a second finders token for NG+
I don't think this works, I've seen enough people in this sub say that those tokens disappear on NG+. I haven't tried it personally, but I wouldn't count on it.
I'm replying to this in the hipes that I remember to check if the token lasts into NG++
Ah ok fair, I haven't confirmed that myself
~~Don't think that works for the Unmaking Arrow though, that one is unique.~~ You can backup your save manually in Windows though and create actual savestates that way.
It does work for the Unmaking Arrow. I've seen someone else mention that it only works if you did an inn save *before* getting the arrow, but that wasn't the case at all for me. I reset back to the inn and it was still in my inventory.
Ah, good to have clarification. Thank you.
I did the same, but only because the game has you choose options you want and on top of it, it's rng if you even get to choose at all I understand that's how it works on DnD but on a singleplayer game being at the mercy of Rng it's just not for me.
Consequences
Wakestones hard to find? I've got like 40 of the fuckers in my storage. I feel like I can't turn a corner without bumping my toes against a shard.
And I honestly used the most of them just because I'm dumb and I fall off cliffs way too often lol
I give them to good pawns I like when I dismiss them.
>***I've heard of people restarting their game thinking they permanently stuffed it up, not realising they could load from Inn.*** Consider alt+f4 if on pc as well, id imagine the auto save will put you back before engaging in combat with her. It saved me from nadinia being assassinated when i picked the wrong npc lmao
One of the few cases where alt+F4 is actual advice.
I panicked and yet I feel like all I got was a pat on the head for getting it right the second time lol
I panicked and yet I feel like all I got was a pat on the head for getting it right the second time lol
The game has a "return to title screen without saving" option in the menu, it should work just as well as an alt + f4.
Alt f4 worked for me on the first Sphinx riddle, but not on dragon plague. Seems like it should work on most things that don't work explicitly make a save.
I shot an Unmaking Arrow at her wings as she was leaving and it worked. Was not in a fight.
Everything worked as normal.
somebody gifted me an eternal wakestone so i still need to do the sphinx?
For personal satisfaction
I'm in NG+ and started the sphinx quest again. I'm on the token riddle. I didn't pick up another token since starting NG+, and I went back to my first token from my first playthrough, and nothing was there. Do I need to pick up another?
When you pick a new one up, it will give you both the token and the finders one.
Ah, thank you very much!
What happens if someone has already picked all the tokens?
Best bet is to find someone that's created a Finders Token forgery
I just shot the sphinx in the wing after saying she said I'm leaving. Didn't attack her otherwise and it worked for me.
Also as soon as you find your first seeker token, mark it on your map :)
I want to add you have to shoot the sphinx in a non human part for the unmaking arrow to kill it. I did all the steps but shot her in the face with the arrow and she just flew away. No eternal wake stone.
Is it a norm these days to not spoiler tag and spoiler block posts like this? Some people like to discover stuff like this on their own.
Well written. Thanks
It's nowhere near worth it, cool quest and what not though, so at least that's that, just wish it was a tad more rewarding :)
Nah not true to my knowledge , its meant strictly for mass resurrection. Though I’m not sure what the lowest number is
Nope, externals don’t count on yourself. This PSA has a few bits of incorrect info.
Regarding the Unmaking Arrow: be sure to shot her in the animal part of the body, not the head or boobs. Even that allegedly divine intervention arrow is not enough to kill her if you annoy her.
You can use the unmaking arrow directly after dialog, just shoot her wings and she dies.
You definitely don't need 2 port crystals. Just pick it up from the first location when the sphynx leaves
You do not need the arrow. If you only hit her back and wings you can fight her normally. If you hit her human parts she will fly away. Pawns don't matter.
Also fun fact, you can ride the Sphinx to the second location. Not sure when she finally leaves though, I'm not there yet.
For fighting her without unmaking arrow, I think you cant use skills with too big of an AOE. I blade-of-pyred her ass and she was upset and flew away
Is there an Option to fight the Sphinx After she leaves the second shrine?
No. The only thing you can do is load from Last Inn Save. If you have an Inn Save after she has flown away, you need to do it again in NG+.
Wakestone forged - is there option to duplicate it in a valid way?
The champion quest was weird for me (the one where you have to beat the champion of the sphinx by throwing him down the cliff). Well my pawns immediately attacked him and beat him down from the cliff with warrior knockback hits and then i couldnt talk to the sphinx anymore and i didnt find that xhampion guy again, i came back wayy later and the champion was at 1hp infront of the sphinx and i killed him and the quest proceeded
Thanks OP 👍
* You can hit her tail or body area until she has no more health. This is hard and you will need to have pawns that only have healing spells and/or need to be very careful. I dont know if its a bug or something but when she was down 10% she did not take any damage there anymore only way to kill her was hitting her in the chest or wings.
Saved!
Seems a shame to use the unmaking arrow on her, means you miss out on the most unique (and creepiest) fight in the game
Also REMEMBER YOUR FIRST SEEKER'S STONE LOCATION FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
if you use the wait command on Pawns, they not only stay in place and don't engage in combat, they will still use support spells like healing and buffing. But I can understand not wanting to risk it: you are one accidental button-press away from undoing the wait command and the Pawns attacking
I need to ask, what's with the dollar signs? Lol
Shit, forgot about inn save and I failed the "find this guy" quest. Is the quest total fucked?
I can't find my finders token and I'm on my last day! 😩
Bro Wakestones have never been freer what are you smoking? Just hire level 1 pawns wait a day repeat?
Or just have 2 Thief pawns with Plunder. They will steal full wakestones sometimes.
Is the eternal wakestone a one time use? Its name is.. eternal?
It's a one time very big aoe revive. Anything else would make death and consumables completely pointless.
Honestly it makes sense when you consider other consumables, but the name does not.. I’m now trying to think of there was possibly a better name to give to it that doesn’t imply it would last forever, when it clearly does not 🙃
Man, I’m so lazy I just like running around killing stuff… but eventually I will need to do this so appreciate the post. Saved for later!
Is she still in game if you wait to do some of her quests when you reach the unmoored world? Does she have any special dialog talking about it?
I want to do this but I literally have no idea where I found the first coin. Im sure it was one that was obvious in the beginning area tho…
Is she alive in the unmoored world? I totally didn't bother doing her before the end came so suddenly.
Am at that point where I gave up because I can't for the life of me remember where I picked up my first Seeker Token and I wanted to go for the trophy but only realised too late that it was one of the "Riddles" So now I need to play either a totally new game or do NG+ as apparently while Seeker Tokens do not reset (i.e if you had 90 before you still then have 90 in NG+) however the 1st token you pick up in NG+ (so no 91 in total) counts towards the Riddle as the new 1st location.
Wait, you can forge it? That's great to know
PSA: FORGERIES OF MAGICAL ITEMS DO NOT RETAIN THEIR QUALITIES read that again
You can also just order the Pawns to Wait and they won't attack her.
Keep in mind the eternal wakestone doesnt revive yourself, its for fixing dragonsplague which isnt a problem if you check your pawns' eyes and reviving pawns which you wont ever have to do once you hit level 40 So its actually a pretty shitty reward and a massive waste of time
a few tips for the riddles: the riddle about your love just bring your main pawn over the riddle to carry the vase. leave the vase, grab ther guy in bathall near the player home and teelport back. when you let him go youll pass the riddle. the first place you got a seeker's token: if you cant remember you can fail this without failing the riddles: you miss out on the ferrystones and the achievement, but it resets in new game cycle. the riddle asking how many riddles you have done is just for the number youre on, not how many you passed. when you finish the first 5 riddles you can jump onto the sphinx and shell fly you to the frontier location. in the end when she goes to fly away you need to do enough damage before she leaves to aggro her
You don't need the arrow.
Will eternal wakestones carry over into ng+ cycles? I had 33 Finder's Tokens forged that all got poofed when I started ng+
Does shooting her with the unmaking arrow give the same result as if you beat her normally? I'm referring to both reward and dialogue.
Yes. The only difference is extra dialogue. It means nothing for achievements. You can watch the extra bit of dialogue online. This is not like Baldur's Gate 3 where tiny choices matter.
I'm playing blind and failed nearly every riddle she gave me rofl
too late, failed on seeker token quest, achievements only on ng+ 🙌
I heard the eternal wakestone can only be used outside and only affects people in an area around you. I've just been hit with dragonplague and have aruond 90 dead that I'd rather not be dead, can someone confirm that using one will in fact revive everyone in the morgue?
My recent experience doing the Sphinx riddles: 1. I'm not sure what was supposed to happen here.
is the eternal wake stone a one time use or is it infinite ?
One time use but you can duplicate it.
ah that a shame i was expecting it to be ETERNAL as the name implied well let's hope they bring the eternal wake stone to infinite usage and an infinite teleport stone in the next DLC
It is still an amazing reward. The normal wakestone CANNOT be duplicated. The eternal wakestone can be. So you have infinite wakestones at the cost of $30K for each duplication.
can you kill her with the arrow without doing the quest and still get the eternal wakestone?
Yes
Ok so i am fairly new here. While randomly exploring i stumbled into the mountain shrine, way ahead of my time and she's sitting there. Question. Are all those riddles answered in the same place? From what i read online, the moutain riddles i could answer 2 of the riddles (give my main pawn, then duplicate the port crystal) but, do i need to finish all riddles right there and then? Or can i just finish these 2 riddles (as i currently have no port crystals) and leave 1 port crystal right there to come back to them later? I have a timed quest i need to finish xD
Fight is bloody ridiculous. I’ve tried multiple times and I keep dying. I tried telling pawn to wait, but as soon as it’s hit by it starts attacking
I’d recommend creating a forgery of the finders token as well.
forging the finders token is genius thanks
It's not the one from your first run. At least, not if you found the Finders Token on your first playthrough. I know exactly where I got my first one, and had been told from people on this subreddit it would be the same one as the first playthrough. When I checked it wasn't there. However, it was where I found my first one on NG+.
I did the quest on my second playthrough and it was the first seekers token from my first playthrough I picked up 🤷🏻♂️
I know some quests rewards change on NG+ if you did them on NG. Maybe this quest changes if you found the token already.
It's possible, im currently doing it again on my third run so i hopefully can confirm that later. I know some rewards for this have changed already, instead of the port crystal i got the forgery version on the 2nd time doing the quest.
Starts just north of border town. Between border and melve
Just north of bordertown, so likely between border and melve.
