I'm saying Arian Foster and Tom Brady would be the best undrafted dynasty players ever.

jimtow28

I'm having a hard time thinking of someone better than these two. Thielen and maybe Mostert are probably the two closest. Would Kittle and Kelce have been drafted?

diswan55

I mentioned in my comment but I'm in 3 dynasty leagues, including a 16 team 5 round rookie draft, and all 3 Tyreek Hill went undrafted. He was a 5th-round pick from West Alabama with off the field issues. If you look back at the 2016 rankings from concensus sites, it's comical to see some of the rookies in front of Tyreek. One dynasty list has the top 40 wide receivers listed from that draft and Tyreek's not even on it. Another list has him as the WR33 behind people like Corey Core, Mitch Matthews and Daniel Braverman. So I'm guessing just like my leagues, Tyreek went undrafted in 95% of leagues.

jimtow28

Tyreek is a good one! My memory on him is a bit skewed, because he went pretty high in my redraft his rookie year. Most of us had never heard of him, I was vaguely familiar, but still thought the dude was crazy.

MopishOrange

AB was a sixth rounder, so maybe he fell? Ekeler being a UDFA in the nfl probably meant he was undrafted in a lot of places

molybdenum75

Chris Carson too!! Man - that 2017 RB class was legendary

New_Budget6672

Ahh man. I drafted Kittle in rookie draft back in the day (but to be fair we ran 2 TEs back then instead of TEP) Only guy that comes to my mind is Doug Baldwin (only cause he won me a championship after riding two years on my bench)

Chappazoid

Kelce probably given the third round capital. Kittle maybe....contingent on league size and proximity to certain pro teams. Good question. I often think of drafts before I started playing and wonder about the discrepancies in evaluations. Some leagues also have direct biases to certain colleges or NFL teams so value can oscillate so drastically. Like I'm from Pittsburgh (Steelers fan) so there's inherently a Steelers tax in my leagues that you have to pay if you really want a guy. ADP pushed up by a round at least.

BlondeYoungThug

i saw a draft from 2017 and kittle went 5th or 6th round. so generally no kittle wasn’t getting drafted. idk about kelce

IMowGrass

I played in multiple intensity fantasy leagues back then. One of the upper echelon owners there went late 2nd on Klece. I remember this bc he has a strong habit of going all in on a sleeper or 2 every draft season. Grabbed Klece in multiple leagues, once he had him everywhere he went back on the MFL software and posted paragraphs of shit talking in regardsto how good Klece is. He took a lot of shit for these posts, but when he hit (he did on CJ2K also) he made sure EVERYONE KNEW IT

Inmoomni

I got Kittle and Kelce as UDFAs

Kapo77

Priest Holmes way ahead of Foster. Probably won't do better than Brady at QB though.

PettyWeightChampion

We are both genuinely embarrassed that we didn't think of Brady. In our defense he was drafted when we were 8 so his genius has always been assumed and he is an anomaly in all regards of outperforming draft capital.

luigijerk

Not many dynasty leagues around when Brady was taken, but yes he would have been.

diswan55

I don't know how anyone hasn't said Tyreek Hill yet. Looking back at 2016 rankings, one list didn't even have him in the top 40 wide receivers of that year. Another list has him as WR33 behind wide receivers like Cody Core, Mitch Matthews (also drafted by KC), Marquez North and Daniel Braverman. Every dynasty league I was in, including a 16 team league that goes 5 rounds, Tyreek was undrafted in and picked up off waivers.

MaulPillsap

I picked him up his rookie year because he was somehow scoring boom or bust weeks by returning kicks lmao

rnkomasterbby

Out there, somewhere, is a universe where Mitch Matthews became a perennial all-star and Tyreek Hill struggled to make the practice squad before getting cut; ending his NFL career

PettyWeightChampion

Tyreek is another good one for sure. It sounds like though it still averages out to mostly bye week fill in guys at best rather than true studs. Still fun to see all the names!

TailorPuzzleheaded49

Surprised i havent seen anyone name Austin ekeler...

rossco7777

went from non asset to top 5. wild rise

Vanamman

I had to scroll a while to find this. He should be the obvious choice since he was also a real UDFA lol

luigijerk

Gosh I hated him. I took a gamble on Gordon that year and this no name doofus stole his job by week 5.

Tua-Lipa

Doug Baldwin for sure. Not exactly a fantasy startable player his first few years but towards the end of his career he was putting up really good production. Between 2015 - 2017, he played 48 games and totaled 247 receptions, 3,187 yards and 29 TDs. Edit: In terms of undrafted guys in just dynasty rookie drafts, I looked back from my rookie drafts since 2015 and Tyreek Hill has to be the best by far who went undrafted in my leagues rookie draft. 2nd place in probably Brock Purdy.

PettyWeightChampion

Any QB will clearly take the cake due to scoring, but Purdy was one we definitely forgot.

Diligent-Muscle-4188

Antonio Brown. I doubt he was drafted in many rookie drafts back then as a 6th round NFL rookie pick.

Jrbowe

Yeah, he came into the Steelers as a 6th round rookie from a small school who was the 2nd WR drafted by the team that year (after Emmanuel Sanders) and made the team as a punt returner. I doubt he was drafted in many of whatever dynasty leagues existed back then.

Independent-Silver57

I’ve had a few gems Kyren Phillip Lindsay Kittle I play in a 12team standard scoring and it seems like every few years someone gets a fantasy starter from the UDFA

jfchops2

Kyren as an UDFA is interesting, I seem to remember him having an ADP around the 2/3 turn

Oyb_

He was a udfa in my league as well, picked him up right after our draft.

RondaArousedMe

I got him 5.02 and held him because of the schefty news drafting him as an RB2 for fantasy his rookie year saying he was going to take over and it paid off

Cifra00

From what I can tell, I think he was a pariah in "sharp" leagues where everyone is very into dynasty and analytics and didnt want to touch a guy with his profile, as opposed to my couple of home leagues where he was a 3rd round pick.

jfchops2

Makes sense. He was a late 2 in my league. Like three of us put any effort at all into scouting our draft picks, the rest draft based on looking at ADP and deciding which situation they like best League clowned me last year for taking Addison over QJ rebuking ADP. I had them close and I'm a Vikings fan so that put him over the edge, but I knew of the issues with his profile. Next guy was thrilled to get QJ when he assumed I'd take him. This is the same guy that in 2022 took Burks ahead of KWalk and Olave and then later in the same first round took Skyy Moore ahead of Watson and Dotson. Didn't know shit about either player, just picked them because he thought he was getting the 1:1 replacements for AJ Brown and Tyreek Hill. Goes in one ear and out the other when I explain that you're trying to pick a player that will have a long productive career and talent is the indicator there, not situation which can change dramatically in just a single year

dynastycomish

Pacheco was drafted in most deep leagues even in May. He was a popular sleeper because his size, speed combo. Lots of analysts had him as a sleeper. I'm seeing him mostly in the 4th in my drafts and the latest was 5.1 in a league. James Robinson was one of the gems when dynasty really started taking off. UDFA in real life and didn't have the Pacheco type hype. Fornette got cut right before the season which really blew up his value. Your point is exactly right. It's hard for these guys to be superstars. The very next season they drafted ETN in the first round. Purdy probably didn't get picked much. Weirdly enough he was Mr irrelevant in 2 of my rookie drafts too. Guys like Puka and Kyren were also drafted but likely late in many deep leagues. Wicks is as close to a true didn't get drafted anywhere type of guy over the past few seasons. I have leagues that go 500+ in the off-season and I got him off waivers after the draft. Going back before dynasty was as big as it is. Thielen, Jakobi, Lindsay, Foster, Cruz, Welker, Priest, Gates, Romo, Warner were all real life UDFAs.

Sussyman95

Obviously super early but got Puka and Tank Dell on waivers after our draft last year.

mlippay

I can’t imagine Adam Thielen was picked in many leagues. Not sure if there was that much hype about Antonio Gates before he thrived for the Chargers. Purdy was likely rarely picked. I mean Tom Brady likely wasn’t pick in any 1 qb leagues. Rod smith is another one of the great real time UDFA but again this is from long ago. If we go back further there are definitely some late bloomers like Keenan McCardell who didn’t blow up till year 5 post expansion draft.

IACJBP

Brock Purdy was very much a waiver wire grab in our league. I think for only $2 as well, which hurts even more now for all of us that didn’t grab him.

WonManBand

Victor Cruz. UDFA in real draft and fantasy. 1 great year and 2 good years before injury ruined him. Pretty damn good for a guy most people got for free off the waiver

luigijerk

I remember in 2011 for my redraft league picking up Cruz and Torrey Smith off waivers like week 2 and they both balled out all season.

sharknado911

For me it’s easy, Priest Holmes

mlippay

In my 1 qb last year Puka was picked up shortly after the draft. If he maintains his year 1 pace, he could be an all timer.

Jrbowe

The best FA pickups I’ve had are Purdy and Jaylen Warren. All of the dynasty leagues I’m in have very deep benches.

peckx063

Shout out Marques Colston and his rookie year TE eligibility

TheEternalWitness

Dynasty is still relatively new in terms of being a popular format so its hard to find old accurate ADPs but guys who were borderline dynasty UDFAs that were studs include: Antonio Brown, Antonio Gates, Tyreek Hill, Austin Ekeler, Arian Foster, Tom Brady, Aaron Jones, Stefon Diggs, Wes Welker, Adam Thielen

BestBarrelsEverDude

Only been at this for 5 or so years, but Puka training camp hype was a god send

NoVictory9590

It’s Tyreek Hill.

MaulPillsap

Who remembers the legend Joique Bell

Rocketman2828

I loved em

Admiral-Thrawn2

Sounds like a lions player

seat_one

Josh Dobbs and Cordarelle Patterson at their peaks got me 1sts. Picking up these guys is my favorite part of this game

FoShigs

Underrated one: Doug Baldwin

postc88

As others have pointed out, Antonio brown and tyreek hill were both free agent pickups off the wire for me back in the day. Dynasty was a bit different then, or at least for me as we were more casual and it was 1QB with smaller rosters. That team though - had AB at his peak, with tyreek up and coming, and gronk on the same roster. Holds a warm place in my heart lol

NoLimitNSB

Was in a league where ARSB went undrafted

telemaster9

I thought he was going in the second round of most drafts

DicksonCider205

I just went through this for my main 12 team SF league last weekend. Notable waiver pickups over the past few years: Puka, Purdy, Rhamondre, Jake Ferguson, Jaylen Warren, Demario Douglas

JudgeSmalls23

Austin Ekeler

cranetechbison

I didn’t see Keaton Mitchell mentioned yet. Went undrafted in both the real draft and my 5 rd rookie dynasty draft.

Admiral-Thrawn2

I like him but there’s probably 50 guys ahead of him at this point

betabot69

Puka. Yes, I know it’s early, but he’s that guy

jmacscotland

Purdy most recently

froginbog

Edelman

VanGundy15

I know it’s probably not most leagues but I only had the 1.01 in 2023 and my team was BAD. Needed more WRs and after the draft I saw some buzz around Puka. Having what feels like a free very early 1st is such a huge boost to your team.

digdiggitydawg

Best I’ve ever gotten post draft are Puka and then Kittle back in the first league I was ever in.

Hot-Butterscotch6642

Tarik Cohen wasn't bad.

OkAdministration5655

Victor cruz for 2 years lol
