I mean, weirdly enough, I'd probably disagree here. He was able to make his dream happen, make the NFL, and dominate. He was able to get a second contract, make almost $50 million in his career. There are other injuries that happen to people before they ever even get those chances. Think about all the careers that were about to happen but never actually did because of some unfair injury. Chubb got to have one.
He only got $7mil total, but that’s Exactly why I mentioned it could be worse financially.
He lost one brother waiting for the life changing contract. Then the other one around the time of his injury.
He did a “letter to a younger you” thing that was published a few years ago in the middle of that. It really lays out how screwed these lower paid positional guys can be until they get a 2nd contract.
Yeah I get it. I read that. And I'm not saying things aren't unfair to these guys, or they don't have troubles. Money doesn't solve everything. I was just pointing out that on the scale of "unfairness of serious injuries", guys who are on their second NFL contract probably don't qualify.
We were comparing to Chubb at $50m to TC at $5m. When coupled with the rest he definitely bears mentioning.
I get what you're saying... The point is that even WITH getting that contract his life still got fucked. And it does tie to money. And his letter is a great explanation to the struggle that happens up to the point you get that 2nd contract. And for sure the guys that don't get to that point have it even worse.
It's incredible how no one in either league where I owned a share of Jerome Ford in 2023 valued him besides me. Tried almost the entire season to get a 2nd for him in 10 team SF & I settled for two 3rds belonging to playoff teams. Somehow both teams lost in the first round (lol), so it ended up being 3.05/3.06. Used them as trade fodder for tier ups later.
Still holding Ford in my other league (10 team 1 QB) because no one even seems interested, let alone would send a 2nd for Ford. If it's clear Chubb is out for a while & Ford is getting the majority of the work, maybe I can still get that 2nd later. Or I just have an extra usable RB, I guess there are worse things in life than that.
Its funny how league values differ. I was willing to give up a 2nd for him last year when Chubb went down but the owner wanted 2 seconds so I declined.
I was a contender last season who was desperate for a RB (Zeke Rhamondre and Ty Chandler were my only RB’s) and got lucky with Ford off the wire
At our trade deadline I rejected two 2nds for him but it was a tough call. Lost a close one in the Ship but I wouldn’t have gotten past the 1st round without Ford so feel like I made the right decision
Not sure what I’d do if offered that same deal now since my RB situation has not improved and I don’t believe in Chubb’s comeback attempt
My thinking here may be wrong, but I think it's two different considerations. When you've already gone through the season and made the playoffs, you can't accept that trade cuz it essentially takes away any chance you had. But now, if you are relying on Jerome Ford as an integral piece to being a contender, you absolutely should just trade him away for a second because that's not a good plan. Of course that's not your only option, but if those were the only two options, I think it's a clear choice
I’m trying to move him now/this year for a 25 2nd. Hopefully a contender could see some value for him but I also haven’t sent out any offers I’ve just been waiting which may also be the wrong approach.
If you actually listen to it, he says he’s just taking it day by day multiple times and even talks about just worrying about today. It’s much more of a glimpse into his mindset then any sort of concrete medical discussion.
I think he’ll start the season slow and might not come back until October or something but by fantasy playoff time he’ll be a solid RB2 or flex for our teams.
Why would they go with him over the third year player they drafted and put up >1000 all purpose yards and 9 TDs last year? Why go with the guy on his 5th team, who has never done that, is 28, and has no receiving aspect to his game?
Seems like it would be 65/35 in favor of Ford until Chubb is healthy, if ever.
As a Browns fan that was high on Ford last year, he just does not pass the eye test to me. His vision and burst are poor, and he needs the O like to make a gaping hole for him to get moving. Once he's off he's hard to catch, so the chance for big games is there. But I don't personally think he'll be anywhere near the bellcow people want with Chubb out. I expect to see more of a committee with the Foreman and possibly Hines
To be fair, our O line was poor last season and injuries in general put Ford in a tough spot for his first real chance as an RB1. But the RB position is rarely one that improves over time, so unless he really pops off to start the year he's not much more than a risky flex. And if Chubb comes back at even 80%, Ford is just a flimsy handcuff
Ford was RB19 taking less than half the Browns' snaps...he might not pass the eye test but if his usage remains similar, he def has really good value. Also they're unlikely to phase him out, he was consistently used, it was just a low % like 40ish. Still had 1100 yards and 9 TD
That’s a good point. By comparison to prime Chubb who was one of his age range best RB he might not look great. The fantasy stat sheet said he was almost remarkably good arguably
People are sleeping on him. I have Chubb and Foreman. I hope Chubb rests up until he feels back to 100%. Foreman is perpetually underrated and should be a beast every week that he starts. He's the best non-Chubb back there
Is he really being slept on though. He's 28, has significant injury history, had 1 decent season in his entire career, and offers zero as a pass catcher (averaging **0.7** catches per game in his career)
Sure, he can put up some rushing yards given volume, but that can be said for a lot of dudes. And even with Chubb out, Foreman will be splitting work with Ford while getting nothing in the passing game.
He is such a good replacement for Chubb specifically. I am confident he can do well while holding down the fort. Ford did not look inspiring to me last year
He’s 28, injury history, not a pass catcher much at all, and guaranteed $350,000 this year. I’m not even convinced fully that he’ll make the team let alone take over the backfield from ford. What about that screams he’s going to be relevant.
Disagree on your last sentence. He's definitely someone that could be valuable given the situation, but imo Ford's the better talent. I also think the Browns view Ford as the starter while Chubb rehabs with Foreman spelling him and providing insurance. That seems to be how the Browns have talked about the backfield heading into the season, and lines up with the money that they gave Foreman.
I don’t understand how he’s flying under the radar. He was borderline dominant in the 2nd half of 2022 when CMC was out. If Chubb misses 8+ games, Foreman will lead the team in yards from scrimmage at rb. It’s that simple.
His injury was Week 2... To not have a timeline at this point is just wild. I am trying to get out asap if i'm a holder, otherwise preparing the not sell until at least 2025.
HC Kevin Stefanski on the RB room:
“With Nick [Chubb], obviously, we’ll continue to let him rehab, and when he’s ready and the doctors tell me he’s ready, he goes. Until then, we like the guys we have.
“I think Jerome [Ford] has done a nice job. He had some really, really, really big moments for our football team and he made big plays for us when we needed it. So, excited about that.”
He then goes on to mention he thinks Pierre Strong has more to give, and that they signed D Fore and Nyheim as guys with experience that could bring a calm to the RB room. My interpretation of that is that they are vets there to help mentor the two younger RBs who they expect to lead the backfield until Chubb is back. Really the only glowing words were about Ford and Stefanski was pretty effusive in his praise of him compared to how he usually talks.
What you said he done bc of an injury?
When it's apparent dude working to get back out there.
Maybe he not the same as b4, but it's apparent he will play this season.
😆😂🤦
Yet on The Athletic I read a headline saying he'd be ready for the season. Maybe it just meant he's 'ready for the season', generally, but not necessarily for the start of it.
So impressive that he’s taken a vow of silence all the way from his injury until now 🙏
Some players adopt the silence after a big injury; Chubb was born in it, molded by it.
Nah that’s just typical Chubb. A vow is unnecessary
One of the most cruel and unfair injuries i’ve ever seen given who Chubb is as a player and at that point of his career. Return strong, king.
Tarik Cohens is a lot sadder (life situation plays a big part) and I’m sure there are a thousand guys that got hurt even sooner.
I mean even Cohen got a second contract. Dude made $15-20 mil.
He only got $7mil total, but that’s Exactly why I mentioned it could be worse financially. He lost one brother waiting for the life changing contract. Then the other one around the time of his injury. He did a “letter to a younger you” thing that was published a few years ago in the middle of that. Robert Edwards. I mean.... flag football on a beach. Sheesh.
Shazier, Johnny Knox, and David Wilson far worse imo
Joe Theismann tbh smh my head
Jerome ford was a good ass pickup in April 2023. This is why we grind.
I traded for him literally yesterday and now I feel so much better about that trade
Please someone buy Jerome ford from me for a 2nd 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’ve sent that exact deal out to half my league lol
It's incredible how no one in either league where I owned a share of Jerome Ford in 2023 valued him besides me. Tried almost the entire season to get a 2nd for him in 10 team SF & I settled for two 3rds belonging to playoff teams. More a case of this being a different fucking year I'd say
I’m trying to move him now/this year for a 25 2nd. Hopefully a contender could see some value for him but I also haven’t sent out any offers I’ve just been waiting which may also be the wrong approach.
I packaged Cooks and Ford for a mid 2nd! Just add some end of the bench guy and get er done
I managed to get a 25 1st for Chubb, Zay Jones and Palmer. Deals can be made king ✊
Trading JT for Chubb before last season was a quick way to set my team back
Why??
JT didn’t seem like a reliable option heading into last year and I was trying to contend
Music to my Jerome Ford holdin' ears
Scummy.
If you actually listen to it, he says he’s just taking it day by day multiple times and even talks about just worrying about today. except his entire leg went 90 degrees backwards. JK Dobbins hopped and hobbled when he came back. I'm just not sure about these guys.
This is a Donta foreman post
Why would they go with him over the third year player they drafted and put up >1000 all purpose yards and 9 TDs last year? > he might not pass the eye test Don't listen to the Browns fan. They're used to watching Chubb. Ford is serviceable, but clearly he's no Chubb.
That’s a good point. By comparison to prime Chubb who was one of his age range best RB he might not look great. The fantasy stat sheet said he was almost remarkably good arguably
I think that's a huge if
Fair!
it felt like his rushes went for 2, 0, 3, 1, 68, 0 and so on
People are sleeping on him. I have Chubb and Foreman. I hope Chubb rests up until he feels back to 100%. Foreman is perpetually underrated and should be a beast every week that he starts. He's the best non-Chubb back there

Yeah but Foreman could easily end up the goal line back
He is such a good replacement for Chubb specifically. I am confident he can do well while holding down the fort. Ford did not look inspiring to me last year
Classic case of I have this guy so he’s going to be good/relevant just because he’s on my team.
I think this might just be "I think this guy is going to be relevant and he's free, therefore he's on my team"
He’s 28, injury history, not a pass catcher much at all, and guaranteed $350,000 this year. I’m not even convinced fully that he’ll make the team let alone take over the backfield from ford. What about that screams he’s going to be relevant.

Redzone warrior

Jerome Ford 📈
Chubb took a vow of silence, now we need Tyreek Hill to take a vow of celibacy.
Don't forget that the surgery for the actual ACL tear didn't take place until November last year.
chubb is like boobie miles, “he ain’t playin…”
His injury was Week 2... To not have a timeline at this point is just wild. I am trying to get out asap if i'm a holder, otherwise preparing the not sell until at least 2025.

Never unfortunately. Dude is done. And it's understandable. It sucks but it's true
He’ll play again. At the same level he was? Probably not, but he’ll be back out there.
What you said he done bc of an injury? When it's apparent dude working to get back out there. Maybe he not the same as b4, but it's apparent he will play this season. 😆😂🤦
D'Onta Foreman finishes the season with more carries than Jerome Ford.
Yet on The Athletic I read a headline saying he'd be ready for the season. Maybe it just meant he's 'ready for the season', generally, but not necessarily for the start of it.
Traded Jerry Jeudy for him today, let’s see how this goes
