Communism is about complete top-down control of state and its subjects. Little individual liberties. Means of production are owned completely by state.
Religions are suppressed but so is critical thinking. Out of box actions are not well tolerated. No such thing as markets as individual risk taking can lead to asymmetric gains.
Eastern european countries did well due to free markets and giving citizens freedom not due to rejecting atheism. But some states have been hijacked by oligarchs over there.
