It's considered delivered I believe, but there will be a note on the tracking that reads "Held at post office, at customer request"

isaiah58bc

This. Then they scan again when the customer picks the package up, to document the final delivery.

I'm not sure if it depends on the carrier, but last time I held my mail, the packages all showed as delivered during the hold and not when I returned. This was USPS but in a more rural area if it matters.

darthuna

Last time I held my mail, they scanned all tracked packages in front of me when I showed up at the USPS office to retrieve my mail. But I don't remember what the tracking said.

Competitive_Fee_5829

it should be marked delivered when it is delivered. why would they wait around for you to get back from vacation?

darthuna

That's just how mail holds work at USPS.

Spockhighonspores

Sometimes it'll say on hold waiting for recipient or held at post office for customers request instead of delivered. However, a package marked as on hold is considered delivered since you put the item on hold and starts the case clock. So if you get the item a month later you won't be able to return it. It's the buyers job to be available to retrieve the package within the delivery time frame. If you decide to purchase an item even though you know you aren't going to be available thats on you.

Imtryingforheckssake

Doesn't sound right. I'd think the status of your mail has to be delivered, lost or returned to sender. Surely it can't be considered in a state of 'on hold' when the sender has done their part of the transaction. I'd think if a post office can agree to hold post then it would be considered delivered. In which case your eBay return window would start from that date. Saying all that I don't know anything about the mail system in your country and have never seen an eBay policy about it

darthuna

I've had my mail held before, and any tracked mail was scanned the moment I showed up at the post office to get my mail. Not before. But I don't remember what the tracking said.

Imaginary-Hornet-397

Why don't you just contact ebay and ask them? At least you'll get a definitive answer. And you can add it in an edit, for the rest of us to see.

Mycatreallyhatesyou

It will be scanned as delivered. Holds aren’t guaranteed as the responsibility falls to your carrier to notice your mail is on hold.

SnooPets9575

I've had this happen a few times as a seller, when it got to the buyers post office it was scanned held at post office at customer request, eBay declared that good enough to be delivered, because it was the buyers request to have it held there is nothing more as a seller i can do, and the USPS is doing what it was told to do, so its technically delivered. Sure they will usually scan it again when handing it to you, but thats more of an inventory check on their end so the system gets it scanned out as delivered. In every case i had like that it was scanned as delivered, or delivered handed to customer, etc. However, using that as an excuse to extend your return window with eBay won't matter, i had one buyer that tried this, saying they were gone for two weeks while it was held and so they should have another 14 days, eBay said NOPE the day it hit the post office the clock started, it's not the sellers fault you weren't there to collect and open the package in a timely manner.

Smallparline

When the post office receives the package, it will show delivered. It’s the same thing with a P.O. Box. So your 30 days will start at the delivered date regardless if you pick it up or not.

Sand_Maiden

This is a question for sellers, but (assuming you agree before bidding) could you ask the seller wait to ship? I’ve asked sellers to wait a few days when I was traveling, but I don’t know about 30.

itchy_economic

I would only wait as long as my handling time would allow.
