Yeah if there is such an appetite for this, then Connors seems to be about the least disruption to everything. Unless we wait until he captains five Cup wins - then I'll agree to whatever! Heh.
I'd like to see the Venn diagram of folks who said it's a waste of money renaming Oliver and those who want to rename a street after a hockey player...
The reason why the Oliver renaming went down like a lead balloon is they chose a name (which I’ll be honest, I’ve already forgotten it) that was not easily pronounced by the majority of English speakers and has extremely unusually spelling for the majority of the population.
When you do that, you increase the likelihood that people are just going to call it “the neighbourhood formerly known as Oliver”. It’s like the whole Prince thing.
It's pretty easy to pronounce, it's just that it looks "different" and Average Joe is often far too lazy to get past that minor speed bump.
Maybe they could have dumbed-down and Anglicized the spelling and it could have gone over better.
Maybe, just hear me out- we don't. It's all well and good to be a fan of a sport, but it's not like these guys are doing it out of some sense of civic pride. They aren't doing things that actually are making the material conditions of the people of this city better- they're millionaires playing a game for a billionaire.
Don't rename anything. Name a new road as the city expands, the road name changes are ridiculous enough as it is. If you do change the street's name then do the whole length of it not just a portion. Even though I am against it, if you were to change a name of a street it would be 97th street.
97 north AND south of 118th? lol.
I think the reason why 75 got a portion of it renamed is because it was one of the main roads that lead to the old barn. St. Albert trail had a portion of it renamed for Messier because he’s from there. 99st stayed as such because it didn’t have a connection to the old rink. That’s why everyone is saying 104th for Davo, it’s right in front of Rogers.
If Wayne Gretzky Driver was Wayne's driveway for "House the Gretzky Built" and Messier Trail was the Moose's drive to the arena, Let's make it 104 Ave, it is the route Connor drives to the arena and essentially the driveway to the arena.
I say we just repurpose Connors road. Just add an apostrophe and a little logo to the signs.

Connors Rd. already murders people, so it would be aptly named!
This is the answer. End of discussion.
Perfect! Lol
Gretzky shoulda been 99th and McDavid should be 97th.
Orignal plan was 99st but Gretzky did not want to proceed with that.
97 Street
One cup doesn't really justify a street naming... let's talk after 3 Stanley cups.
I’m fine with that McDonald’s jaunt
Aged like milk.
I feel like Groat Road represents McDavid’s stick handling best.
Or just remove the R and it's still true
I think I'm going to start calling it Goat Rd, regardless. Thanks 😂
Nice. 👍

Spoiler: it's a circle

Or just left the name as is.
Exactly there are so many Indigenous street names, towns etc that have been anglicized... but doing I am sure would still upset ppl
How about none for the time being. Maybe after he retires. He's an incredible player, but let's not go crazy.
Deerfoot Trail in Calgary 😀😀😀
🤣🤣
Let's not rename anything yet. After he retires would be good.
I am all for that, but worried what Calgary would rename Edmonton Trail too
Edmonton Trail is pretty insignificant. They can have it back! 😄
Agreed. I also think that 104st between Jasper Ave and 102 ave should be closed to traffic and named the “Leon Draisaitl Fußgängerzone”
I don’t really know what that word means but I like it.
"Pedestrian zone", and that's my work network risky click of the day.
Every German word sounds threatening, Schätze.

Let's wait until he brings home 4 Stanley Cups.
Connor’s Road already exists and leads into downtown and Rogers Place
The first stop after Connors Hill on the LRT should be renamed to McDavid
Easy, 104 Ave.
That’s a long avenue. But I like it.
Why not 97 st?

Somewhere along 97 makes the most sense to me too.
Gateway
Whatever street we choose, can we call it Connor McDrive-id?
Jasper Ave
I want something named after nugent-hopkins
Sounds like an ice cream flavor
“Bing-Bong…. Blatchford-Nugent-Hopkins station”

134 st
You don't win 1 cup and get a street named after the captain of the team. He is a legend in the making. You have to let that happen first.
