Sabres fan here. Skinner is no doubt a very talented skater, and scored a ton for our team. He had a NASTY year in 22/23, over 1 PPG on average.
He’s going to have to buckle down and play better defensively though. He can be careless with the puck in the neutral zone and generally doesn’t backcheck much. Had one of the worst xGA/60 stats for forwards this season. Wish him the best of luck, maybe he will get inspiration from the oilers and figure out the other half of his game.
Signed, a depressed Sabres fan. Seriously, you guys are blessed, I can already feel how much of a crazy year this is going to be for the Oilers. You guys are stacked!!!
I think he can do it. Knoblauch has been incredible (with buy-in from the core and really everyone) at getting this team to be responsible defensively.
The transformation over the last year of the Oilers going from a powerhouse offensively but a disaster defensively, to now still a powerhouse offensively and pretty dang good defensively has been remarkable
Imagine being denied a single playoff game for your entire 10+ year career and then going on to win the Cup this upcoming season. Hey, a guy can dream.
I was thinking the same thing. Honestly, I feel like a player fully deserves it at that point. I know there's usually a sense that players need to earn their stripes with playoff experience. But man. Zero playoff games for 14 years... he's been punished enough.
Just another testament to JJ - the consisten interest that we showed yesterday was a big factor in him signing with us. Probably something that wouldn’t have been done with a regular gm
Was thinking the same thing when he said this. Interesting that our acting GM was a player agent up to about a year ago so he 100% understands the other side and how players like to be treated when negotiating.
Skinner using Party in the USA and Breaking Free as goal songs in Buffalo were low key historically great hockey moments. I hope we let him pick his own goal song. You know Run Away With Me or Call Me Maybe is coming.

If he doesn't Uncle Perry is gonna have some words with him on the bench
I just want to see them get better at zone exits. I have been enraged watching a few times seeing them just dump it to a panther/star/canuck
Stand up guy. Lets get buddy here his first playoff game!

The Ron Hainsey special. Won the Cup in his first ever playoff run after going 900+ games without a postseason appearance.
The Buffalo to Cup pipeline could be legit XD Look at Eichel, Okposo, Reinhart, Montour off the top of my head

Kyle Okposo did it this year
Guy is going to humbly score 60 goals lol.
Imagine we get Hyman, Drai, Skinner, and McDavid all with 50 goals…. A man can dream
Yeah just a casual 200 goals from 4 players no biggie I BELIEVE
LFG!!!! Who’s to say it can’t happen?! Realistically McDavid gets ~40, Draisaitl maybe hits 50 again, Skinner and Hyman get ~35-40
This guy is going to go from having no playoff games in his career to winning a cup in his first playoff appearance. 100% success rate. Book it.

As a Sabres fan and Edmonton being my second favorite, I love this. I was sad to see him go, but if he had to I’m glad it was to Edmonton.

Our goal song is awesome and we don’t need the gimmick
Does anyone else see a strong resemblance to Tom Holland?
I was just going to comment this lol
Also Joseph Gordon Levitt
Hell yes I do.
Tired: Ken Holland Wired: Tom Holland
Yeah I told my girlfriend we signed Tom Holland lol. Was wondering if anyone else saw it.
He's going to be huge for us on 5v5 scoring.
Which is wild considering we were 3rd in 5v5 scoring even including the Woodcroft games, and only 7 away from first.
