Look into the history of Barrio Azteca. Still active inside of Prisons, run like a corporation outside of them. Bonus El paso history. El paso no longer has true freedom of assembly because of them. If any three suspected gang members are around, that's probable cause. El paso was the first place in the nation to have a gang injunction like that. Don't see the cops pulling much of that lately, but they did in the 90s. And that is why our crime rates dropped to their levels.

TravelingButt

People who aren’t from here oftentimes state El Paso is very safe due to the cartel. However, there isn’t any evidence that proves the cartel operates here.

DiscombobulatedWavy

The cartel knows better than to do their dirtier shit in El Paso. It’s not good for business. Plus the city is crawling in law enforcement. Unfortunately this historically bodes terribly for Juarez.

lemur_nads

we have ATF, FBI, DEA and obviously customs and CBP here, they'd really find out the hard way if they fucked around and had to find out the hard way.

drifts180

I'm sure they are operating in EP, but the violence stays in Mexico.

Peep this video when you have a chance. https://youtu.be/oT2kxwjmCzw?si=KzsUoI0tz6KhU4he

Nice_Distribution832

We have a reginal FBI & DEA headquarters in EP, yet it is estimated 75% of all cocaine that is snuggled into usa is done so through el pasos ports of entry. Citation: https://web.archive.org/web/20120511192444/http://www.justice.gov/dea///pubs/states/newsrel/2010/nyc061710.html El pasos main criminal groups that are rarely talked about; barrio azteca - one of the most violent groups ever. heavily present in the leo and corrections agencys Typically recruts U.S citizens, main modus operandi is transnational crime, as us citizens they have the freedom to cross borders...a highly desirable trait for them. Then theres " la linea" which along barrio azteca are the nail+ dirt combo of organized crime in ep/ juarez and a heavily armed enforcement wing if OC. Both organizations actively recruit from within LEO, corrections officers , cbp.... As an example the " el chapo guzman single citizenship mexican, easily extradited state side and convicted. Your typical barrio azteca will pray nostly on mexicans down the border / state sid migrants and run back to hide in stateside. Why? Because they know theres no extradition the other way around [ usa to mex] Then you have te mexican duals who live here and commute to work as members of la linea/ federales in mx and then cross over away from mx where they'll never be found/suspected , but these typically began life as government/federal government officials/dignataries, magistrates in mx , who happen to have salaries in the 10's/ 100's of thousands of dollars higher than your typical non military service civilian...like $40k min on some roles ( civvies with no military bg make about 1000 usd max if there licensed engineer etc.) a farmer probably desnt break over 200 usd a month... Basically its the mexicans with a federal/gvt background who you dont want comming over as it could be a federale with decades of murders behind him. At the same time you don't want us citizens going down there and aiding cartel massacres and disappear over the rainbow were MXcan authorities will be left clueless and incapable of requesting extradition.

soakingsocket

They're in El Paso, but they lie low. As long as you don't go messing with their turf or doing stupid shit like selling drugs they will leave you alone.

gattaca1usa

The cartel do live in El Paso. You can see the expensive house being bought cash here. But they know better not to bring their violence in El Paso. Once in a while u hear about kidnappings in El Paso. Even the mayor of Juarez lives here instead of Juarez.

Exotic_eminence

The newer season of narcos Mexico talks about the Juarez Cartel - I wonder if they will make new seasons & get into how Calderon swatted the hornets nest

Somewhere-Left

Probably yes.

heyknauw

Residual shit, Yes.

savboxer

Look for black out escalades in the school drop off lines

bucketofmonkeys

You know, they sell black Escalades to anyone with enough money, not just cartel folks.

savboxer

The windows my friend. Also its a joke. Love the sense of humor though

bucketofmonkeys

Glad I didn’t offend you, it was meant as humor.

savboxer

Ohhh so you downvoted bc you found it funny. Got it

bucketofmonkeys

Short answer, no. I’ve lived here for over 20 years and if I have ever encountered cartel guys, I didn’t know it. Whatever activity they may have here, they do a good job of hiding it.
