Would like to add once you see RoB enough times in PvP you just get use to it and you start winning more against them.
I started a new strategy where instead of parrying (because I am shit at parrying in this game), I chug a physick with crimson burst + leaden tear and just brute force their L2 attack to kill them fast.
I too am sh!t at parrying so I understand the pain, tho I know how to roll around it and am good enough to bait out the ash attack, space it and then follow yo with my own ash attack works 9/10 times.
No biggie dude, use it if you like it, plus most people complaining about it are usually using some other spammy weapon as well this ain’t the only one, it’s meant to be powerful in game, use it

I use an int build with moonveil and I've started nerfing myself in pvp since everyone hating on mv mage builds. so now I only do normal attacks and swift glint shard. I still win half my matches. I started the game with a dex/end build with heavy armor, shield, and the long katana(forgot name) it was fun but I wanted to try something different after I beat the academy. and now I feel like I can't even use my new build to it's fullest in pvp. I never spam mv or spells but ppl still hating. so I beat them at my weakest(sometimes)
I literally changed my build right before the bleed buff because I wanted to try melee and it looked cool. Now I feel like some of my boss fights are invalidated from all the people saying how easy rivers of blood is.
It's a cheesy PvE sword, which is fine if that's how you like to play vs AI. But it's a punk bitch PvP sword and you should feel bad if you use it against real people
If you’re still interested in trying other weapons of a similar cool factor, might I recommend Eleonora’s Poleblade and the blood flame enchantment? The second one is great because it works on any basic weapon.
Tbh, I don't PvP often, but I usually wreck the ROB spammers. They get reliant on the ash of war, overuse it, and waste a ton of FP on them to boot.

People are just toxic towards guys who use RoB and plays with friends. Don't listen to them, you are free to use your weapon of choice, as long as don't hit a guy who bows to you at the beginning of the fight

Everythings either broken or useless, no in between. If your weapon is remotely usable, you shouldn't be using it because it's toxic or easymode. If it isn't, it's trash and you are bad for not seeing how bad it is.
The rage against RoB its due to its unbearable and unfair ash of war that you'll see at least once every 10 min in pvp. Pve is fine, no one cares how you beat the game, as long as you're having fun. Just, don't spam it on pvp.
This is my first souls game to play as well and that is exactly why I wanted Rivers of Blood. I had no idea it was as strong as it is.

Look if it's a weapon in the game, let people use it. I like the animation, the quickness, and the bleed mechanic. So what if people think it's tired. Git gud if you can't handle it (not to you, OP), I think this debate is silly.
You do you. I definitely scoff when I see it in duels because it is a bit of a scrub marker but the other person can’t hear me and likely wouldn’t care if they did.

If your opponent is spamming RoB's AoW, you're pretty much dead if you get clipped a single time due to the blood buildup and reach.
When it comes to magic, no one really hates it. Its just that magic has a good chunk of spells which make it impossible to get anywhere near your opponent unless you use the Erdtree shield tactic. If you run pure melee and you come across a mage with good spells, you're gonna be lucky if you can even get close to them while being pelted. Incantations have problems too, but spells have a lot more overall.
honestly you can even use it in pvp if you want, just don't spam the weapon art. be creative, pair it with a parrying dagger, a buckler or even a fucking jar cannon, but please god don't just be brainless and spam the weapon art.
Rivers of Blood with Malikeths armor is my go to. I love the L2 because I inherently kind of suck at video games and it makes killing stuff a lot easier
lol people are mostly annoyed by it's overabundant usage in the PvP scene. If you're using it to just rip through the PvE stuff then more power to ya.

Just use it. Its a good weapon. Just remember that there is more to L2.

This is only an issue in pvp. Elden ring (right now at least, the game is still being patched) has the worst pvp of all the soulsborne games.

I want my third playthrough as a double bleed spear trying to role play Oberin Martell. As long as you're having fun you're playing the game right.
