I've been using emulators since I got the psp in 2007. I've wanted it on iPhones and even jailbroke my iPhones back in the day so I'm really glad I can get them on the AppStore now.
Dude the PSP was such a crazy value back in the day because it ran up to PS1 era really well. I took mine everywhere lol and other kids would pay me to mod theirs.
I installed ZSNES on my PC running Windows 98 back in the day. Ran like a charm and played FF6/Chrono Trigger the first time that way.
Started emulating gamecube when I got my macbook pro 2 years ago. Amazing to be able to play windwaker for the first time with my step son.
Windwaker is an amazing game so Iām happy to see it being enjoyed across generations. Hope your stepson enjoyed it and how is Mac emulation I havenāt tried it much, the most I did was try F-Zero GX.
I find I like using the standalone emulators like dolphin/flycast. Retroarch looks cool but it was crashing for me and I couldn't figure it out. It's a beast of a program.
Iāve emulated games for a while, I got into it from Nintendoās Virtual Console feature on the Wii, where you could download retro games. I wanted to start emulating retro games because I enjoyed it.
I always knew about iOS emulation way before they were allowed on the store, but they got progressively harder to use and required jailbreak. Was very excited and still am that thereās emulators coming to the app store
Iāve been doing emulation since about the same time and the limits on iOS emulation without jailbreak definitely held me back from using it for awhile, I hope JIT is eventually added although it might be years off considering Apple haha
That sounds so wrong and illegal. I need solace please, Iām very nervous. I have roms on my Files app, but I think I have messed up. If the roms are viruses, now they are destroying my phone.
I am completely PC illiterate so Iāve never done it. The few times Iāve tried it hasnāt worked. I couldnāt even fathom trying to do rom hacks. Now this has made it feel so simple. The Retroarch thing does confuse the hell out of me but Iām able to get PS1 games running on it and thatās really the only reason I downloaded it. Iām loving finally being able to experience this though.
I have some anbernic handhelds and retroarch on those is so much easier to navigate, if I could get it to look exactly the same on my phone as it does on my Rg35xx It would be so much easier
Very interested in picking up an anbernic especially the SP variant coming out soon, how are they in general and also I really want frontends to become more apparent on iOS although Iād doubt it but it would be nice to have emulation station on here.
Anbernics and the miyoo are great. I just donāt like the boot time from shutdown and the sleep function just shuts the screen off. I hear the sleep function on the sp is better.
Yeah I watched Retro Game Corps video on it, seems very good in terms of that. Honestly Iām unsure whether to stick with using my phone or buying something like the anbernic thanks for the input though
Iāve been using a Bluetooth controller because I have touchscreen controls. And itās wild playing Pokemon on a small screen with a controller. But I think a dedicated handheld is better so you arenāt using all your battery up.
Really like 8bitdoās controllers and theyāre not that badly priced might pick one up based on what you said, I just wanted something attached to the device as Iām always worried I might lose it
The micro on aliexpress is like $18 shipped but it takes forever. On Amazon itās about $25 and itās very small. Like if you have big hands I donāt think it would be a good idea. But also itās a Bluetooth controller so you can use it for switch or computer also.
Thanks I appreciate the advice I think Iām probably going to get it cause I can use it for a majority of stuff I have. Honestly paying just $7 more for it coming sooner doesnāt seem all that bad
I dont remember very well but that was the ds emulator right?
From what i remember at the time i was using galaxy z flip 3 and playing mario ds with no issues its really good but i prefer retroarch's ds core or delta
I think deltaās core is probably better because it can do online I donāt know if draStic could although Iām just kind of happy emulators on iOS usually come with more than one system supported, makes it a lot easier.
I've been emulating on iphome since the mid2010s when I got my first iphome with gba4ios and ppsspp. I remember before using altstore you had too do a reverse time bug on your phone so you could use a certificate that gba4ios had. Usually the certificate broke and you couldn't update too the newest firmware. Reminded me of the jailbreak days
I bought one recently actually for the same reason, mine got stolen too with my copy of pokemon emerald but thatās what emulation is for thankfully so now if they wanna steal it, theyāll have to steal my entire phone.
Been using it on android for a pretty long time. Not my first emulation. I used to use the Gameboy emulator too. I learned how to add in chests in both psp and the gba one. But that was like 2 years ago after playing some games I realized I preferred the feeling of the psp on hand so I went got a decent unit for a decent price. Nodded it and yesh been chilling over here living in nostalgia.
PSP/vita always feels comfortable to hold and is always what I go back to eventually especially the vita with the oled screen on some models it just feels like the right way to play a lot of older titles.
Iām new to RetroArch and currently struggling with setting up bios and etc. if anyone can help me or message me that would be great :) also Iām excited I love how delta runs and PPSSPP runs as well!
Iām new Ive never done this before but Iām slowly absorbing the knowledge as I go and learning what does and doesnāt work. I started with delta then went up from there then down temporarily then up again.
I consider myself a OG, at least with ppsspp, I discovered it in like 2013-14 in its early stages as a kid, I had a android at the time and was obsessed with the idea of playing psp games on a phone, I had a sucky android though, and then later on I discovered apple and fell in love with the design etc in like 2016
, and from there Iāve been into emulation, seeing apple come this far is just amazing witnessing, what Iāve wanted came true after many years.
Iāve used delta before on iPhone about 7 years ago, and RetroArch recently, so Iām relatively familiar with tweaking emulation, a lot of guides I follow though to to refresh my memory
Do you guys own the games yall playing? I am very scared of getting a program one day to emulate an entire operating system.
What is the difference between emulation and virtualization? (Iām so sorry Iām being annoying.)
Oh my god this coming to iOS really opened up the possibilities for me. I knew about them but I canāt sit down at a computer just to emulate a hand-held device.
Now Iām even more overwhelmed with the PPSSPP games too! Seriously it will take me years to get through all the stuff I wanted to play but missed out on in my growing up periods
I was using those crappy ass browser emulator sites (Shoutout to anyone who remembers PlayR and NES123) back when I was a smol.
Since upgraded to actual emulators, but that's been 99% of my retro gaming for years. Having it on IOS is just extremely convenient/good for when i'm bored and out of the house lol
Iāll admit I always heard of what emulation was and seen videos of PS2 games being high scaled but due to Apple not allowing them till this year I will say Iām definitely new to actually using emulators
My first exposure to emulators was playing Pokemon Silver on my brotherās PC in the early 2000s. I knew about emulators on iOS ever since my friend showed me PPSSPP on his jailbroken iPhone 4S.
For emulation specifically on iOS, I was started back in Cydia days.
But then after iOS 10, I started to do side loading with AltStore and recent years with SideStore.
Started with a very old GBC emulator on my Nokia, called Vboy, and used to emulate NDS on my PC with NO$GBA. On iOS, I installed GBA4iOS the day it came out in 2014 and started sideloading apps back then, and never quit.
Im kind of new to it or not depending on your view. For almost over 8 years ago Iāve known about rom hacking (specifically sonic rom hacks) and since I had an android phone before, I used Mega drive emulators to play a lot of them which eventually led to me emulating every Mario game that I could on that phone. Im talking Game boy, NES/SNES, N64 and the lot. But that phone broke and since I already had an iPad, I decided to get an iPhone afterwards. For a while I didnāt do anything since I though it was impossible, but around 3 years ago, I briefly got into AltStore when it was free in Europe, and for a bit did some more emulation. I also got into emulation on pc with ones like Dolphin, PCSX2 and XEMU. But the hassle was a bit too much and eventually I stopped renewing the AltStore. Now that the AppStore is allowing them completely, im exited to get back into it since its much more convenient that AltStore. Though I really wish we could have dolphin and ps2 emulation on AppStore since being able to take just use my phone for emulation would be perfect, but for now, this is enough.
Been emulating since my first android in 2014. Iāve used all types of emulators. I made the switch to iPhone around 2015 or 2016 and missed emulation on phones since. I was stoked to hear it was coming to iOS. Other than that. I would build retropie PCs for emulation. Emulate on my pc and then my steam deck.
Been doing emulation since I got my first Android back, idk, 10 years ago, I guess? Not really new to tech tbh, Iāve been fixing PCs and modding Androids since forever (not really super into it, but I know some stuffs).
Been playing with emulators on PC for over a decade. Only been getting into handheld emulation recently. Saw that Apple has eased up on emulators, so figured I'd might as well have it on my iPad too.(Half the fun of emulators is setting up imo.) I don't emulate on my phone (Android) though as it drains battery, and I don't need to as I usually carry a handheld anyway.
2000 maybe? The long defunct video game forum I frequented back then started a discussion about it one day and I was hooked ever since, albeit at different levels of enthusiasm. In short, I generally get back into the scene in waves when something huge hits the scene like mobile (Android initially) or emulators for things like Dreamcast and PS2.
Iāve always been impressed by the people that create/contribute to emulators. Whether named or unnamed, these people have been responsible for me having the ability to essentially keep a big part of my childhood in my pocket.
Now that emulators have āofficiallyā come to iOS, a platform I had relegated to never get emulators, I find myself yet again drawn into it. I am cautiously optimistic, because while I like the influx of users, popularity brings attention and the devs have to be EXTREMELY careful to not draw the ire of a Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc.
What a time to be alive indeed.
I used to install gba 4 iOS on my iPod touch in 2015 back when you could get it on your phone via a website (I forgot the name itās been 9 years lol)
I first started on my MacBook Air 2014 playing GameCube and 3ds on it in like 2020 and I first heard about it was from someone that I used to watch called sharkblox
I purchased a premade Retropie from the Retro Games Fan Facebook group two years ago. Itās still the best purchase Iāve made in years, but itās not portable. So Iām new to emulation as of about a month ago when Delta dropped on the AppStore. RetroArch being released this week has been a game changer though. Iām having a blast figuring it all out. I finally got MAME to work this morning and now Iām working on figuring out Neo Geo.
This is my first time actually for delta I downloaded sonic rush never owned a Nintendo ds so I play for a bit its fun, RetroArch havenāt tried it yet. And PPSSPP just downloaded Spider-Man 2 so Iām having fun with it.
I just recently got into emulation after my friends introduced me to delta. I had heard whispers of emulation but never got into it. After delta it was just a rabbit hole and now I have so much more knowledge, and so much more emulators
Very first time. Basically a person drowning in the āoceanā world of emulation and piracy, because I donāt know how to āswimā understand technical terms and do stuff.
I had heard of emulation and Iām interested because I could get the chance to finally play my childhood games.
I assume that yall main overall for everything device is the iPhone.
One isnāt gonna get an old version of Netflix, one has to inevitably get the latest hardware and software.
I have no idea how people can create emulators that imitate old consoles.
Why is the act of using files illegal if emulating is legal, that doesnāt make sense. Much of my paranoia comes from the fact that i could run duplicated software that could have something that can destroy my iPhone. I think that imitating another operating system may have malicious code because people are bad.
I've been using emulators since I got the psp in 2007. I've wanted it on iPhones and even jailbroke my iPhones back in the day so I'm really glad I can get them on the AppStore now.
Emulation on iOS has never been better really and I am so excited for the future.
Dude the PSP was such a crazy value back in the day because it ran up to PS1 era really well. I took mine everywhere lol and other kids would pay me to mod theirs.
I just found my old PSP, going to charge it up to see if the old emulators still work on there lol
Cydia šļø
The good ol days
I used to emulate GBA on my PSP lol
I installed ZSNES on my PC running Windows 98 back in the day. Ran like a charm and played FF6/Chrono Trigger the first time that way. Started emulating gamecube when I got my macbook pro 2 years ago. Amazing to be able to play windwaker for the first time with my step son.
Windwaker is an amazing game so Iām happy to see it being enjoyed across generations. Hope your stepson enjoyed it and how is Mac emulation I havenāt tried it much, the most I did was try F-Zero GX.
Not all the games can run. I tried Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, but my macbook just can't hack it. Zelda can run.
Have you ever used OpenEmu? Iāve been interested in trying it but never got around to it.
I find I like using the standalone emulators like dolphin/flycast. Retroarch looks cool but it was crashing for me and I couldn't figure it out. It's a beast of a program.
Yeah RetroArch can be confusing, itās definitely not a simple emulator.
OpenEmu is like RA but with an Apple esthetic so itās very straightforward to use. I donāt think it does shaders either like RA does
Is RA better then? In terms of customization
Yeah
I started with NESticle in the late 90ās and have been on and off with emulation since.
Iāve been doing emulation since about the same time and the limits on iOS emulation without jailbreak definitely held me back from using it for awhile, I hope JIT is eventually added although it might be years off considering Apple haha
Is the virtual console legal, even though you donāt own the game because you are playing games from a curated library?
it was literally made and sold by nintendo in their wii shop app before it shut down lol
Iāve done emulation for over 20 years. I remember loading up PokĆ©mon red on my windows xp computer for the first time. My high school laptop was filled with snes, n64 and game boy games. I had a program that let me run PlayStation disks on my laptop, though I cannot remember what it was called.
Probably ePSXe is what it was called I think
Ah I think that was it.
That sounds so wrong and illegal. I need solace please, Iām very nervous. I have roms on my Files app, but I think I have messed up. If the roms are viruses, now they are destroying my phone.
In what way do you think they are destroying your phone?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I see. Iām new to this sub.
I have downloaded roms and emulators onto every device iāve owned since 2014 you will be fine
I feel as though PCs definitely made emulation a lot harder for people so Iām happy to see it more accessible, what games have you been playing?
I have some anbernic handhelds and retroarch on those is so much easier to navigate, if I could get it to look exactly the same on my phone as it does on my Rg35xx It would be so much easier
RetroArch is definitely simpler on their RG series handhelds
Very interested in picking up an anbernic especially the SP variant coming out soon, how are they in general and also I really want frontends to become more apparent on iOS although Iād doubt it but it would be nice to have emulation station on here.
Anbernics and the miyoo are great. I just donāt like the boot time from shutdown and the sleep function just shuts the screen off. I hear the sleep function on the sp is better.

Iāve been using a Bluetooth controller because I have touchscreen controls. And itās wild playing Pokemon on a small screen with a controller. But I think a dedicated handheld is better so you arenāt using all your battery up.
Yeah and for the controls, I canāt really justify the price of the backbone right now so Iām unsure
Iām using an 8bitdo micro. Itās small but it fits in my pocket and has l2 and r2

Been doing it since about 2000-2001
Completely new to this one.
Since like 2022 on android but i did every emulator there was at that time (except for the really old consoles like the ataris)
Did you ever use DraStic? honestly that was my go to when I had an android awhile back.
If you want there is lemuroid for android or retroarch which has basically every emulator
Never knew lemuroid existed before you mentioned it here, seems interesting Iāll try out and see how it works thanks!
Ok but i think retroarch is the best if you know how to use it but lemuroid is still very good
Years ago, but I only remember the Death Note games and Astro Boy GBA.
I'm new. I'm loving it so far.
I remember I use to emulate and play N64 and GB roms on my moms tablet when I was younger.
Been emulating on android since like 2013. From android to PC emulation and even a jaikbroken iPad before the AppStore scene.
Been using emulators since 2005 when my Gameboy Advance SP got stolen š
I bought one recently actually for the same reason, mine got stolen too with my copy of pokemon emerald but thatās what emulation is for thankfully so now if they wanna steal it, theyāll have to steal my entire phone.
Since about 2020, emulating gameboy games on my wii
Over 20 years at least.
Been using it on android for a pretty long time. Not my first emulation. I used to use the Gameboy emulator too. I learned how to add in chests in both psp and the gba one. Understandable. I was gonna get the vita. Went with the psp for nostalgia sakes.
Iām new to RetroArch and currently struggling with setting up bios and etc. if anyone can help me or message me that would be great :) also Iām excited I love how delta runs and PPSSPP runs as well!
I started emulating in 7th grade in 2012, used to play ds games at 10 fps on my cheap android š
With how drastic is now ,it would probably run at full speed
Been doing emulation since my dad had a windows phone
Iām new Ive never done this before but Iām slowly absorbing the knowledge as I go and learning what does and doesnāt work. I started with delta then went up from there then down temporarily then up again.
I consider myself a OG, at least with ppsspp, I discovered it in like 2013-14 in its early stages as a kid, I had a android at the time and was obsessed with the idea of playing psp games on a phone, I had a sucky android though, and then later on I discovered apple and fell in love with the design etc in like 2016 , and from there Iāve been into emulation, seeing apple come this far is just amazing witnessing, what Iāve wanted came true after many years.

Since your title is that, I did use Windows Emulators on macOSā¦

First time emulating in IOS. Had been using emulation on Android for over ten years
Used to emulate since the windows dos days
Im emulating since around the year 2000, when I played a Japanese PokƩmon silver on my pc understanding literally nothing
I done emulation back when I was in elementary school with the crome books and my old phone it not my first time but have evolved doing emulation

This would be my first time ever doing anything emulation, I been watching the emulation community for years wanting to try but never had a pc until last year, then this year delta happened and now I have 137 games most of them PokƩmon and fighting games
Been playing with emulators on PC for over a decade. Only been getting into handheld emulation recently. Since the mid 90s so going into 30 years now. In iOS via jailbreaking, sideloading or through āaccidentalā approvals in the App Store since 2008.
My cousin introduced me back in 2000 with genesis and later gba. Fond timesā¦
Iāve been doing this since 2003, got into RetroArch when I hit my first raspberry pi
I very briefly used a N64 emulator years ago but otherwise nothing.
I tried emulating on pc like 2 years ago, but it kinda felt wrong playing PokĆ©mon on such a big screen. About 2 weeks a go a nice YouTuber told me about delta and the alt store. I instantly downloaded it and tried it. It was so strait forward just downloading things from for example vimm or similar sides and just importing it to delta. 2 days ago I downloaded retro arch and PPSSPP and will try those out in the next few days. š
ā¦Iāll put it this way, the first time I emulated,I it was difficult to run SNES9x at full framerate. š
2000 maybe? The long defunct video game forum I frequented back then started a discussion about it one day and I was hooked ever since, albeit at different levels of enthusiasm. Iāve been using MAME since I was 5-6 years old in the late 90s, I even had it on a floppy disk lol
I start this year and really like it want to get more in the complex version of it but for now I stick with the more easier version of it
I purchased a premade Retropie from the Retro Games Fan Facebook group two years ago. Itās still the best purchase Iāve made in years, but itās not portable. So Iām new to emulation as of about a month ago when Delta dropped on the AppStore. RetroArch being released this week has been a game changer though. Iām having a blast figuring it all out.
Why are these apps mainstream if this may cause a major revolution against paying for entertainment? This is a slippery slope
