Absolutely love Imaginary and hearing it live was so surreal too!! What struck you about the song in particular? I love hearing others’ resonations with a song I love so much too!
Sorry for the upcoming novel, but it meant so much to me that you asked.
I listened to Missing a lot during moving away from my family for the first time… and i felt like no one missed me or needed me at all. Nothing had ever made me feel so understood the way those lyrics did in that time. The strings, the harmonies… it felt like i was melting into the song.
I was very lost for a while. I spent so much time daydreaming and imagining i was somewhere else… I slept all of my days away, and once again, Imaginary made me feel like someone understood me. It became one of the few things that kept me going. These songs were always on repeat. I still spend time in my field of paper flowers… but now because i want to, not because i have to to survive.🩵
Don’t be sorry at all, thank you for sharing these words because I feel the exact same way, at least to an extent. Everything about these songs feel like they are so familiar and belonging to my soul, and I’m grateful we are on the same wavelength with that too. No matter who I am with/around or the stage of life I am in, I can always relate to these lyrics, no matter when I connected with them either. If you’re a musican or artist on any way, feel free to private message me, I would love to recreate these feelings in executing these songs somehow. ❤️🔥🧿🥰✨
Bring Me To Life! I heard it on the radio way back in 2003 before Fallen had even come out. My youth group was visiting with another church and one of the girls wrote the name of the song and the band down for me. She was telling me how they were a super cool Christian rock band (lol) and I wasn’t thrilled about it but I thought she had the most beautiful voice. I found their website (and was very glad that they were not, in fact, like the terrible Christian bands my aunt used to make me listen to) I didn’t get a copy of Fallen until my birthday so I used to listen to the samples of the songs on their website!
Imaginary for me in terms of "favorite" with Swimming Home. But Imaginary, since I heard it at 12, will probably always win out at some level due to nostalgia.
I had recently heard BMTL with the rest of the world and thought something like "very cool voice. Gorgeous voice." but I wasn't hooked yet. I was in my middle school dance class and one of the girls suggested Evanescence as what we danced to (it didn't matter it was just an exercise) and she started playing Fallen to see of I liked any of the songs.
I heard the beauty of being able to escape life and reality in one's mind. I was a chronically ill, chronically neglected, and parentified child raised by bigots, and I often dissociated. I would use my mind to escape. Just like Amy sang about, and I used to find beauty in landscapes and dreams I created both awake and asleep. It was music in a way music had never been shown to me before. Beauty in darkness and tragedy. I understood that as a child, even if I didn't understand all the lyrics fully back then.
It means a lot that's its been on every setlist! It was my own anthem when I was a preteen.
going under was my gateway to evanescence, and since then i've been really into their music, especially amy's vocals :>
my favourites right now are my last breath and my immortal
I absolutely love the lyrics too! There’s definitely a reason why so many of us love that song in particular so much and I always love hearing the reasons. Thank you for sharing yours too :)
I definitely was when I heard it live! I definitely felt like I had to record it too and I was definitely screaming the lyrics over it, so was skeptical about uploading it onto YouTube, so hopefully whenever I can next, I can record it in a way where it’s all smooth and I can also immerse myself in it.
Kinda BMTL cuz I'd hear it on the radio and be all "who is this?" But I didn't find evanescence until I saw an ad for going under on launch (yahoo's old music platform) and I looved the song and video and then found BMTL on the page and was all !!it was them.
Bring Me to Life. Not my favorite song now, but I'll never forget the first time I heard those opening notes on the radio at work. Her voice and the piano stood out sooo much from the usual pop punk that station played and I immediately made a note to look them up when I got home.
Lithium. I discovered Evanescence by playing a private server of the game Lineage 2. They added custom songs when you arrived in a city. Town Of Giran theme's song was Lithium and I instantly fell in love with Amy's voice when I first listened to it.
I think the song that got me think “Yep, I love this band!” is “Imaginary”. It was a song I used as a coping mechanism back when my mental state was a lot darker. Hearing Amy’s voice healed my very empathic soul and I felt comfort in their music. Then getting more into their music besides their most well known music like “My Immortal”, “Going Under”, and “Bring Me to Life”, I fell in love, especially when I got to “Lithium” and their demos, and cut songs.
My Immortal. I was always a sucker for a sappy ballad. Bring Me to Life was playing on the radio at the same time but it didn't connect with me the same way. My Immortal is the sole reason I bought Fallen.
I first heard "Taking over me" somewhere around 2005 while in a bus going to school and it changed my relationship to music instantly. I had never cared about it much, it was just noise... But that voice, that melody and yearning melancholic vibe instantly caught me even tho I could barely make out the lyrics.
It took me a few years to get a PC and become able to look these things up so it was a dragged out love affair, lasting to this day.
Bring me to life. First heard it on the radio and when it was played often on this one radio station during my teenage years I would sit and listen to that station all day. When it came on I’d plug in my headphones and turn the volume all the way up.
Bring Me To Life when it first came out then I found all the demos before Fallen came and not liking the album versions that much first because I overplayed demos haha
Bring Me to Life. Heard it twice in my teenage years before buying Fallen the week of my 17th birthday (2003): the theme song of WWE's No Way Out PLE (Premium Live Event) and a TV spot for the film, "Daredevil".
Call Me When You're Sober - my mom listened to it when I was a kid and she was going through a break up. But I think Going Under was one I could really relate to when I got older and that solidified it for me.
First heard Hello and My Immortal with a friend in my bedroom in 8th grade during a sleepover, and would write the lyrics to Hello in my notebook in class, then I remember one time in college while I was a freshman and was given a fresh credit card 😝✨ I decided to actually buy the whole Fallen album on my phone off iTunes to unwind too so I wouldn’t have to use YouTube to MP3 for all the songs and attach the album art to them all like I did in high school lmaoo - then over the years I listened when I did, and then discovered they were playing live in Atlantic City, NJ, this past 9/8/2023 and snatched the tickets to those so quick. I also remember I loved her rendition of Sally’s Song from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Truly hard for me to pick a singular song that made me fall in love with Evanescence since I love them all. I also saw a comment that said Imaginary and that is an ultimate favorite too! I remember waking up one morning and that song was repeatedly playing in my brain.
They had me from day one (I’m like a year older than Amy and at the time was working on a music project with a friend that never panned out but I’m so glad hers did!!)… I’m particularly fond of the Synthesis version of The End of the Dream.
Going Under. I knew about BMTL and thought it was nice, but Going Under really stood out and made me give BMTL a proper listen with my headphones. BMTL is just as good, if not better than GU, but somehow GU got me to pay closer attention to both.
Everybody’s Fool sealed the deal.
My heart is broken
Imaginary!
Absolutely love Imaginary and hearing it live was so surreal too!! What struck you about the song in particular? I love hearing others’ resonations with a song I love so much too!
Lithium 🥰
I think whisper. The first cd i got was for my 13th birthday and it was the ultra rare trax vol. 1
Breathe no more, I remember being like 14 playing dollzmania with that song on repeat ❤️
Going Under
BMTL

Everybody's fool
Call Me When You’re Sober
The change… but imaginary and missing are what really sunk me in
Been waiting to find someone who would say The Change! It was this one for me. Not sure why but I was hooked by this song.
the Change is one of my top 3! it's beautiful and the first time Amy sang in that style.
Imaginary and Missing are some of my favorites too!! What captivated you about these songs? Would love to hear :))

Going Under. My Immortal made me like them a lot but Going Under was the one that made me completely fall for them.
Probably sweet sacrifice
Going Under was the first song that I heared that I really liked.
Missing, I didn't understand at all the first time I heard it, but I loved it.
BMTL and Everybody’s Fool
Bring Me To Life! I heard it on the radio way back in 2003 before Fallen had even come out. What about yourself?
Imaginary.
Love seeing so many people say “Imaginary”, I wonder how each person resonates with the song too <3
Imaginary
Love seeing all the “Imaginary” comments!! What do you love about the song personally? :)
Imaginary
Commenting on all the “Imaginary” comments I can find, that song is embedded into my soul for real!!!
going under was my gateway to evanescence, and since then i've been really into their music, especially amy's vocals :> my favourites right now are my last breath and my immortal
Bring me to life was my introduction to them, but imaginary and taking over me caused me to fall in love with them.
I feel this, same with Imaginary!! What struck you about the song? Would love to hear :)
Her vocals and the lyrics just resonated in me. It's one of my top songs of all times.
I absolutely love the lyrics too! There’s definitely a reason why so many of us love that song in particular so much and I always love hearing the reasons. Thank you for sharing yours too :)
I've heard it live numerous times, and I'm always captivated by it. It's like the crowd is in a trance almost.
I definitely was when I heard it live! I definitely felt like I had to record it too and I was definitely screaming the lyrics over it, so was skeptical about uploading it onto YouTube, so hopefully whenever I can next, I can record it in a way where it’s all smooth and I can also immerse myself in it.

Lost in Paradise

It's Everybody's Fool. I was thinking of a different band. 🤗
Everybody’s Fool
Bring Me To Life when it debuted.
My Immortal.
Breathe No More... hands down! Did get lyrics from "End of the Dream" tattooed on me, so there's that
I love Breathe No More too, singing it feels so cathartic also! 🧿✨🙏🥰
Bring Me To Life, as soon as it was released on radio
My Immortal
My immortal
Bring me to life & my immortal!! I was maybe 7-8 years old that time
Bring Me to Life. Not my favorite song now, but I'll never forget the first time I heard those opening notes on the radio at work. Her voice and the piano stood out sooo much from the usual pop punk that station played and I immediately made a note to look them up when I got home.
Same here. Heard it on local radio & was like...who's that?

Bring me to life!
My Immortal :) It was playing on a music channel on the TV, then I went down the rabbit hole
Haunted or missing
Bring me to life, it had to be this one.
Bring me to life, it had to be this one.
Bring Me To Life. The song that made me fall in love with them all over again was the Synthesis version of My Immortal. Absolute tearjerker. Love it.

My Immortal
Lithium. I discovered Evanescence by playing a private server of the game Lineage 2. They added custom songs when you arrived in a city. Town Of Giran theme's song was Lithium and I instantly fell in love with Amy's voice when I first listened to it.
Broken pieces shine I knew the band existed but it hadn't caught my attention until I heard that song. Absolute banger.
Eternal

Going Under. Mom bought Fallen and put it on in the car.
Lithium
Call me when you're sober, all the way back in 2008.
My Immortal. I was always a sucker for a sappy ballad. Bring Me to Life was playing on the radio at the same time but it didn't connect with me the same way. My Immortal is the sole reason I bought Fallen.

Bring Me To Life, first time I heard it was actually seeing the video on a music channel on TV, I instantly loved them.
Lithium
Bring Me To Life.
It was Bring Me to Life. I saw the music video on MTV and went out that same day to buy Fallen.
Going Under
Bring me to life. By far the best. In original and redone.
Bring me to life. First heard it on the radio and when it was played often on this one radio station during my teenage years I would sit and listen to that station all day. When it came on I’d plug in my headphones and turn the volume all the way up.
Bring Me To Life… back in 2002 when AOL had a behind the scenes preview of Elektra in the Daredevil Movie. I’ve been a hardcore fan since.
Imaginary, was the perfect cure for me when the events in Ukraine began
Bring Me To Life - back in 2003, 11 year old me had just found a band that would change my life!
Tourniquet
Bring Me To Life when it first came out then I found all the demos before Fallen came and not liking the album versions that much first because I overplayed demos haha

Whisper
Going under
Other than Bring Me To Life, it's Field of Innocence for me. It's hauntingly beautiful.
Bring me to life
Lithium, it wasn't the first song that introduced me to Evanescence but it is the one that stuck with me.
I've always loved Evanescence but ultimately, when listening to their most "secret" stuff, it think it was Understanding. That song is just... Mine.
Snow white queen
My Immortal made me fall in love with the band. But that entire album, Fallen, is by far my favorite. I know all the lyrics to every song on it.
Call me When You're Sober! haha
I know it’s not cool, but Immortal Beloved is simply an incredible song. Also Lithium.
I think it was Imaginary or Hello
Bring Me To Life
Going Under
Call Me When You're Sober - my mom listened to it when I was a kid and she was going through a break up. But I think Going Under was one I could really relate to when I got older and that solidified it for me.

The Only One
Your Star. that was the first song where I said "I get it.. I love this"
I’ve always liked them, but when I heard Broken Pieces Shine, I genuinely became obsessed with Amy.
Probably going under or cmwys
Going Under. First song that I heard coz my friend showed me the CD Fallen and changed my life forever.
Like you, it’s so underrated
Hello and Tourniquet were my introductions. At first wasn't a fan, but then I got into it and decided to give them a try.
