I don’t think it’s a fair comparison. I love both albums, but would never put them in the same category. Synthesis is great, but it stands separately and independently from the other 4 major albums, in my opinion.

GuyWithRoosters

This is where I’m at too. The synthesis version of end of the dream has some of Amy’s best vocal lines in her singing career, specifically the LAST refrain’s “follow your heart till you bleed-eee-eeed”, truly insane. That being said, it’s not an album in the same sense as the others because it’s not new songs with a new message/POV from the band? I love the bitter truth though. Every time I listen to it front to back it reminds me how impressively consistent it is

Socialnetwork-spren

Omg when I saw her live she mixed the synthesis version with the original and it was amazballs. Pretty sure I recorded it too :D

Villasteven

I agree with this, Synthesis is really more of a one off project than a 'normal' album, I love Synthesis and Amy's vocals are just stunning but yeah it doesn't really compare to TBT they are totally different, also love TBT too a great album thats gets better with each listen and the whole album is so well done considering it was made under difficult circumstances (the pandemic).

fill_the_birdfeeder

I adore Synthesis, but I don’t see it as a full album like the others. Did you get to see it live? That was life changing honestly. Seeing Amy achieve a huge dream and hearing the songs in a new and beautiful way was extraordinary. I also love TBT and opening with BPS live was amazing. They’re just too different to compare.

Veristitalian

I saw Synthesis shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Mountain View. They were amazing!

rionka

I agree with the synthesis live experience ❤️

misslawlessxoxo

Amy always kills live performances and I love the orchestra setting there. I just didnt care for it on a record

Timber49

They're not even comparable. Completely different types of albums and sonically polar opposites. I like both, but I couldn't say that one is better or worse than the other, they have nothing in common.

BlackstarCowboy

I don’t think the two are really comparable in terms of one being better than the other. I think it comes down to personal preference but also TBT is an album of new songs where Synthesis is old songs with a new arrangement.

a-cubed-panda

agree.

KingNothingNZ

TBT is one of my favorite albums of all time. Will Hunt is on FIRE on the drums. Troy is making that guitar snarl just the way i like it. And Amy has never sounded more confident and mature. Final form of a Rock Goddess. Immensely satisfying album.

Competitive_Big5466

I like both

jesusfz93

The unpopular opinion would be the opposite, and I think most of us fans agree. Not that Synthesis is bad, though. TBT is just too good!

cheesevoyager

I wasn't a big fan of Synthesis either. I wanted something NEW, not just re-imaginings of old songs. The other issue that I had with Synthesis was I felt that by removing the electronic and guitar elements, the songs lost some texture and dynamics that I really liked from the original songs. Synthesis is a great experiment and a fun concept. It just wasn't my cup of tea. TBT was more of what I wanted.

DaikonJunior4720

Is this even a question? Synthesis was just rehashed old songs (even though imperfection is killer) while The Bitter Truth was their best new album since the Open Door in 2006

misslawlessxoxo

I just seen so many people talking about synthesis and they liked it more and some even saying it was better than the originals which is wild to me

Original_Data1808

I saw them for the first time on the Synthesis tour and it really made me appreciate the album Like another user said I kind of see it as its own album, set apart from the others

Smart-Needleworker98

most definitely

_bennyluxe_

Synthesis stands on its own and is far better produced than TBT. I love The Bitter Truth but Amy's vocals were poorly mixed on most of the songs. You can barely hear her on all the big exciting tracks like Feeding the Dark, Part of Me and Blind Belief. All three are my favorites from that album but the chorus' are poorly mixed and her vocals get lost. It's a stark contrast from the beautifully organized chaos of The Open Door and Evanescence (ST).

GentrifiedYharnam

Synthesis was super undercooked and some vocal takes/instrumentation are questionable at best. TBT really has a well-rounded sound and concept.

Diegoville00

I had high hopes for Synthesis but they really dropped the ball with the beats and all electronic parts of the songs so it's really not a fair comparison lol

BadCaseOfClams

Eh, Synthesis is probably my favorite Ev release, but I can’t say the songs are *better* than TBT songs because they’re not new songs. It’s just more aligned with what I normally listen to and Amy’s voice was insane. Plus, Hi-Lo and Imperfection are fantastic… I would say those two songs *are* better than most of TBT. Also, shout out to EOTD for its glow up…. And Synthesis Your Star is one of the most unique pieces of music I’ve ever heard. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but TBT is their weakest album for me. It’s not bad and I do like it, It’s just pretty uninspired. Some of the songs honestly don’t even sound finished… and there’s a bit of “trend chasing” in the production that doesn’t jive with me.

Ok_Image6174

I disagree. For my personal taste, I LOVE Synthesis so much. I love all their albums, but my top two are TOD and Synthesis.

Cosmonautics_Passing

They’re two different concepts and genres, so I couldn’t really compare the two

[deleted]

I see synthesis as a complication album more than another EV release since has old songs with orchestra I heavily agree with you the bitter truth better release and we hear more jen majuras guitar works the bitter truth EV best release

katielovestrees

Agreed. Synthesis is boring af

misslawlessxoxo

I cant believe you got downvoted for this lol
