Ah. Classic "While you nerds did nerdy things, I got LAID" vibes. With a heavy dose of "kids today are glued to their damn phones, they need to get LAID" on the side. How very hilarious.
Same level as: Helium walks into a bar. The waiter says: "Sorry, we don't serve noble gases here!". Helium does not react. You know what I say to that? He He He He He
Nah, that joke is actually funny in an extremely dad joke way. It also doesn't take shots at people and equate humor with putting others down, so it clearly rises above the other.
I don't think it's totally bommerist to acknowledge that smartphones have radically changed the way teens play, date, and interact with the world. Throw a little nostalgia in the mix, and you've got this meme.
?
Do you seriously not understand the idea of nostalgia? Did you never experience having a young crush and meeting up with said crush at a mutual friends house with a bunch of other kids where you played stupid games like this and light as a feather? And you got goosebumps when the game allowed you to touch her a little bit.
You'd be flying on a kite for days after that kind of thing.
If you've never experienced that, I would guess you might think this is about sex. But it aint.
Well son, thatās why your mother and I are 16 years older than you and have been trapped in a loveless marriage we canāt escape due to family pressure and have warped your sense of what a healthy relationship looks like.
Wow! You really read a lot into those two sentences. lmao
I just took it as "this was all we had to do."
I mean, it's not like you can't still play "Spin the Bottle" now.
Oh, no, it's definitely meant as "our generation was superior cause you do nerdy stuff like fiddling with smartphones while we gor LAID." Classic boomer sneering about kids today with a touch of virgin-shaming.
He is sarcastically saying 'somehow we did' when what he means is that he had a much more enjoyable childhood than you
I can attest that as a 15 year old in the mid 80s there were few things more fun than spending a rainy Saturday afternoon playing spin the bottle and truth or dare
Iām way too bothered by the ādad/sonā framing. As a child of boomers, I was well into adulthood before smartphones as we know them became ubiquitous. The oldest people to have lived in a world without them are in their late teens.
Yet this is the exact kind of behavior parents destroy their kids lives over these days. My parents kept me locked up in the house and never allowed me to have any real friends.

It's so funny I laughed my ass off. Oh, it's still there... Which means... š±
It's not even half-assed humor?
Same level as: Helium walks into a bar. The waiter says: "Sorry, we don't serve noble gases here!". Helium does not react. You know what I say to that? He He He He He

I meant same level as "half-assed Humor". The original joke is dumb.
Hehehe
It's so funny I forgot to laugh

I don't know what "bommerist" is, but I do know that people who brag about how much sex they get are usually lying.
I think they are referring to the fact that statistically young people are having less and less sex as the years go on.
Which is where the "kids today are glued to their damn phones, they need to get LAID" attitude comes in. \^\_\^
This meme isn't about having sex.
Suuuuuuuure it isn't....

Nah, it's about sex. And about shaming kids today for not having it. If it had been nostalgia, it would have been phrased differently.
nah, its not.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure it's not.
yup, I agree.
I got laid BECAUSE of technology (early dating websites). Yeah, i'm old.
That or "I went to parties and socialised in person"
Just looking at that picture you KNOW that's not what they mean.
Well son, thatās why your mother and I are 16 years older than you and have been trapped in a loveless marriage we canāt escape due to family pressure and have warped your sense of what a healthy relationship looks like.

This is a game called spin the bottle. You spin a bottle that is in the center of a circle of several people, and if it lands on them, you kiss them.
Yea but how does it have anything to do with the text
Itās saying they had a better childhood than people with smartphones. Itās a boomer joke.
I donāt think itās implying it was better. Just that they found things to do.
i mean, from the meme, more like they found PEOPLE to do.
No, the joke is that it was better
That would make sense if you couldn't play "Spin the Bottle" today, but you still can so I don't see that at all.
No, the joke is that it was better.
It's not implying it was better. You're just inferring that it was better. It's just saying that was all people had to do.
Well instead of using smartphones they kiss eachother
Man I wish we were still able to kiss people nowadays..
I miss the good ol days when we used to kiss... all these Gen z millennials are to busy making some of those pronouns on their I phone's to be kissing
Sounds like a surefire way to get herpes
Yep. Can you imagine how many cooties were being passed around back then?
lol. are you being for real?
Sell some plasma and buy a life.
wtf are you talking about? what was that other comment you deleted, btw?
Have you tried making out with your smartphone? People will tell you an Apple is better for this, but take it from me and get an Android.
itās implying thatās how they wasted time without smartphones
We had different ways of having fun back then, and sometimes it included other people in person
He is sarcastically saying 'somehow we did' when what he means is that he had a much more enjoyable childhood than you I can attest that as a 15 year old in the mid 80s there were few things more fun than spending a rainy Saturday afternoon playing spin the bottle and truth or dare
You really need it spelled out this badly for you? Are you afraid of rubbing those two brain cells together too hard, or are you missing the other?
I remember it as Truth or Dare from school. I never participated in any because I didn't want to tell any one about myself :(
Iām way too bothered by the ādad/sonā framing. As a child of boomers, I was well into adulthood before smartphones as we know them became ubiquitous. The oldest people to have lived in a world without them are in their late teens.
A lot of boomers had kids late, my roommate is a Gen Z, and his parents are boomers
Dad's painting themselves as badasses while in reality many were nerds going to star trek conventions.
Yup where they would kiss OTHER nerds. Ask me how I know..
I'm sorry you were born from nerds.
This is all very fitting
... and this is how I met you mother the first time. (I was the one taking the photo)
Lol
To be fair, kissing games are more fun than smartphones.
Spin the bottle was tinder for the 90's
Yet this is the exact kind of behavior parents destroy their kids lives over these days. My parents kept me locked up in the house and never allowed me to have any real friends.
7UP FTW
And this is why their entire generation got oral herpes that they then negligently passed on to their kids.
'Smart' Phones cause cancer.....See how the media lies to you yet? BUT YOU NEED ONE!
They played spin the bottle to entertain themselves instead.
Roblox
Never found the appeal of that. Wow you got a kiss, so rad.

I meanā¦ the meme is stupid but itās okay to have sex my guy.
