I don’t like watching racing, boxing, baseball, basketball, or football but man, there are some damn good movies on those sports I will watch the hell out of and Rush is definitely in that category
All of them are good films, it almost feels like a shit-post because of the generic sigma male meme though. *Rush* and *Arrival* are slight outliers, but if *American Psycho* and *Blade Runner 2049* were present, we’d have a winner for peak sigma male.
Watch some films outside of the “film bro” hierarchy and develop your tastes more. I was in your spot when I was like, 16.
Right? I just don't get the need for condescension.
Also, I really enjoyed those movies. I was glad to see Rush on the list, and I'm not a "bro." I'm female and can certainly watch Fight Club multiple times and enjoy it as well as Guy Ritchie movies and, yeah, The Big Lebowski.
Goodness sake. The reductive thinking sometimes.
Average Redditor response, thinking they’re cooler than everyone else in the room because their favorite movie is a silent black and white film from 1943 that absolutely no one has ever heard of
Eh, I think most like all of these, it is just funny to some I think. Like, in the same way you can visualize the "cooler" art house types you're calling out, most can probably at least somewhat accurately visualize OP.
I like all these movies but the one I don’t like on this list is inception. I don’t know why Christopher Nolan is so popular. His movies are all just flashy convoluted nonsense that looks like it should be good and or important but they always leave me feeling robbed of my time.
I honestly never saw that one. The one Nolan movie that I did really like though was The Prestige. Dark knight was decent for a Batman movie. Ledger was really what made that movie good though. Without ledger, I think dark knight would have been a mediocre at best Batman movie. I’ll watch Tenet someday though just because I’ve heard so much about it. However, another Nolan movie that I heard so much about was Oppenheimer and I couldn’t make it through the first 30 mins of that movie. I’m a history major and studied a lot about WW2 and the surrounding events but that movie just did not do it for me. It was very self indulgent from the stand point of the director. A sniffing his own farts type of movie.
Man, that scene when Cooper comes back from the planet with the immense time difference, wasting years and years there which was only an hour or so for him, and he catches up on all the communications from his family that came in while he was gone. That's quite an emotional sequence.
Prefer *2001: A Space Odyssey,* but I can’t hate on *Interstellar.* *Interstellar* feels like it was directed by Spielberg rather than Nolan, which I find particularly interesting. It has the same vibe as *A.I.*
It’s kind of hard to dictate Nolan’s style, thematically. I feel like he chooses amazing filmmakers and an overall team to help envision his conception, but the final result always falls slightly flat to me.
Or it’s because those are all good movies? lol
Just because someone likes popular movies that also happen to be good doesn’t mean they haven’t seen very many lmao. They’re popular and have won awards for a reason.
Listen Chief, just because their favorite movie isn’t a C tier indie movie from the 60s doesn’t mean they have narrow taste lmfao. And even if they do, who fucking cares? 💀 you’re not magically above them because you have different taste.
Lol. You've got some issues if you're calling me chief and dropping f bombs and accusing me of thinking I'm better than him after that exchange. I'm just advising them to see more. It's almost guaranteed that they haven't seen many movies in their life if that's their top ten. They posted it, they wanted feedback.
Bros mad and downvoted my comment because his feelings got hurt 😂🫵🏻
Cry some more why don’t we? All he asked for was if anyone shared them as favorites LOL.
Buddy no one but you looking to argue 💀 I just said because he likes popular movies that doesn’t mean he has shit taste lmao. Again, please cry some more and take away my fake internet points
I thought prestige was a fincher. Ok so just replace fincher with Nolan then. Same difference. And honestly fincher would have done all those films better. Do you work in the industry?
Uh oh. We either have a grip who asks every PA on set out and never gets any. Or we have a set electrician who will be happy to drag extension chords and turn lights switches on and off his whole life. NO MOM I DONT HAVE A GIRLFRIEND TO BRING HOME YET! STOP ASKING! AND NO I CANT FIX YOUR BREAKER BOX I TOLD YOU I DO LIGHTING ON SETS! ITS WAY COOLER ANYWAYS!
Uh oh we have someone probably projecting cause you’re not even close to right about me, I did PA, never hit on a single person there, I did stuff for costumes, never hit on a single person there, I did craft services, never hit on a single person there, I did catering and never hit on a single person there, it was pretty easy. I did just get out of an almost 9 year relationship with a costume designer for cheating though, ei I got too much. Would definitely not do that again as I now know the gravity and dangers of it all too.
Nolan and Fincher are two brilliant filmmakers, why do we need to say that one is better than the other? 🤦♂️ why does my profile picture determine whether I work in the industry or not? 😭
I’m not saying one is better. Sorry to clarify I think that all of those films are dark in the vein of Fincher’s weird dark expertise and view of life. And I don’t know people, in the film industry have a certain look that’s all. lol
I dig all your picks (except Prisoners which I’ve not seen). Impossible to pick a top 10 but here goes…
* Jaws
* Raiders of the Lost Ark
* Empire Strikes Back
* Aliens
* Back to the Future
* Pulp Fiction
* Big Lebowski
* T2
* Wrath of Khan
* The Matrix
I think the problem with the critiques is there are some people who have a need for approval that their taste is eclectic. As if it confers something special about them.
Let OP live. These are the movies he is enjoying right now. Will some of these rotate out in the next few years? Probably. His list is not your list or meant to be definitive. Have to give him credit for having a few films that were out before he was even born.
Only film on this list I haven’t seen. I’ll need to watch it.
… and probably rewatch Prisoners because I don’t really remember it. But I think I’ve seen it.
Might as well call this a Nolan list. Is this what film fandom is now? The same 2 dozen movies I see mentioned here all the time? No foreign films, nothing prior to 1994? You’re either 15 or a very sad 30-something.
The irony of you calling me sad where you’re the person sitting behind a keyboard whining away at a stranger on a Reddit forum 🤣 Nolan here has four films on this list of ten. Film is subjective and this is my opinion 🤷♂️ that’s the beautiful thing about film, it’s subjective. Our opinions do not have to be shared.
You've got a great freakin list. I didn't enjoy Tenet as much as the other ones, and that was due to the sound design. I need a better sound system, and I'm working on it.
I'd have some of your picks in my top ten list. I can't ever really finalize one, though. There are just so many. It freaks my brain out 🤣
Gladiator would have to be in it, though. Snatch, too. I think 🤣😅
I love serious films haha. Massive fan of comedies too, but I prefer gritty, serious and raw vibes. I’m a screenwriter and I tend to write hard, raw emotional films so my taste in films kinda reflects that 🤷♂️
Same. I write professionally too. My advice remains the same. I too write very serious dour films. A diverse pallette creates more dynamic art, even if the tone of that art remains dark. But we all have our styles. Good luck. Hope u liked dune.
Hear me out - Arrival is fantastic. But what if Jeremy Renner was recast? I think about this sometimes. (No shade to the people who downloaded the Jeremy Renner app.)
No offense, but I used to struggle with imagining Shawshank Redemption to be in someone’s top10 movies. Quite an unremarkable film imo
For the other titles, I mean… not to be disrespectful, but If I had to make the most basic filmbro top10 movie list (except for “Rush”, I guess), there’s a high chance It would be the same one
On second thought, this might be a satirical list, which is cool except I would swap rush and arrival with pulp fiction and goodfellas or the departed for the ultimate filmbro starter pack
Shawshank has some phenomenal acting in it, and a beautiful plot. But, the beautiful thing about film is that it’s subjective so we each have our individual opinions. I think Rush is a near perfect film; and that’s enhanced by my bias towards Formula 1
I mean, yes. Its a good movie. I’m not going to argue that top1 iMDB spot is well-made and perhaps appealing to a lot of people. However, not to sound snobbish, to me personally, its a little predictable, basic and bland movie, unfortunately
Definately not top-100 or let alone top10 of all time
In no particular order I would say
Roma (2018)
Apocalypse Now
Come and See
The Worst Person in the World (and “oslo, aug 31”)
Melancholia
Ikiru
Amelie
2001: a space odyssey
Handmaiden
City of God
Aftersun
The Cranes are Flying
Babylon
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Grand Budapest Hotel
Fallen Angels
Kwaidan
Seven Samurai
Good Time
Grave of the Fireflies
Dr Strangelove
Ratatoille
Parasyte
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Perfect Blue
Oldboy
Truman show
(Not top10 but these are my favorite, feel free to share ur opinion)
Apocalypse Now is brilliant. As is 2001, Amelie and Ikiru. Never seen Melancholia in someone’s Top 10 before, but I did like it. Surprised to see Babylon and Aftersun in a top 10, both great films, but I wouldn’t say they’re Top 10 worthy 🤷♂️
No issue, certain filmmaker's styles just gel well with viewers.
It's worth it to consider other genres and international films though imo. Japan, the UK, France, Argentina, Korea, China, Thailand, Spain, Germany etc etc have awesome film industries in their own right. Have a look around for films outside just America.
Fair enough. I have watched a variety of international films and series, and I do really enjoy them! I will admit that I struggle to rewatch the majority of them unlike the films on my list!
Also fair enough. I guess there's a big budget divide - Nolan's films have so much more behind them than almost anything international.
Glad to hear you look around though :).
Go to the Criteron sub. for quality films recommendations. European and American classics, directors with artistic qualities, etc. Enough with the Christopher Nolan crap loved by male teenagers.
Nicky Lauda is driving my cah
Nicky Lauda! Nicky Lauda! Nicky Lauda!
I don’t like watching racing, boxing, baseball, basketball, or football but man, there are some damn good movies on those sports I will watch the hell out of and Rush is definitely in that category
W for rush
Fantastic film!!
Only one there I havnt got round seeing, definitely watching it next
Saw this as a pre-screening, loved it, sooo good!
No way! Ron Howard is top tier
🫵 filmbro white guy spotted 🫵
Average redditor spotted. They forgot to throw in the Big Lebowski on there
My first thought lol
All of them are good films, it almost feels like a shit-post because of the generic sigma male meme though. *Rush* and *Arrival* are slight outliers, but if *American Psycho* and *Blade Runner 2049* were present, we’d have a winner for peak sigma male. The smug is high with this reply.

I'm female and can certainly watch Fight Club multiple times and enjoy it as well as Guy Ritchie movies and, yeah, The Big Lebowski. Goodness sake. The reductive thinking sometimes.
At least it doesn't have The Godfather and Pulp Fiction!
Maybe go watch Boondock Saints and get back to us once you've truly joined the upper cinephile echelon.
Rush is underrated
I like all these movies too enjoy and don’t listen to these haters
I like all these movies but the one I don’t like on this list is inception. I don’t know why Christopher Nolan is so popular. His movies are all just flashy convoluted nonsense that looks like it should be good and or important but they always leave me feeling robbed of my time.
Haha please tell me how you feel about Tenet
I honestly never saw that one. The one Nolan movie that I did really like though was The Prestige. Dark knight was decent for a Batman movie. Ledger was really what made that movie good though. Without ledger, I think dark knight would have been a mediocre at best Batman movie. I’ll watch Tenet someday though just because I’ve heard so much about it. I love tenet
Inception is a masterpiece
🙌🙌🙌
You can't just like good movies. You have to like good movies that other people don't also like /s
I see somebody indie musics!
I think you would like LA confidential. Have you explored films of the Hollywood New Wave? You’d also like those too.
LA confidential is on my watchlist! I’ll move that further up! Thank you!
Didn’t particularly enjoy arrival although it was interesting and haven’t seen rush but the rest are almost all on my short list
Fair enough! I really enjoyed Arrival! Rush is brilliant, definitely give it a go!
Just watched Interstellar with my sister. Cried four times. Not my favorite Nolan, but probably the one that gets me most emotional.
The bit that always gets me is Cooper checking under the blanket for Murph 🥲
Man, that scene when Cooper comes back from the planet with the immense time difference, wasting years and years there which was only an hour or so for him, and he catches up on all the communications from his family that came in while he was gone. That's quite an emotional sequence.
Prefer *2001: A Space Odyssey,* but I can’t hate on *Interstellar.* *Interstellar* feels like it was directed by Spielberg rather than Nolan, which I find particularly interesting. I feel like he chooses amazing filmmakers and an overall team to help envision his conception, but the final result always falls slightly flat to me.
Three directors make up 8 of your top ten. You should branch out a little.
Could it be because said 3 directors make great movies? 💀
More likely that OP just hasn't seen very many movies.
Or it’s because those are all good movies? lol Just because someone likes popular movies that also happen to be good doesn’t mean they haven’t seen very many lmao. They’re popular and have won awards for a reason.
Either they haven't seen many movies or they have incredibly narrow taste.
Bros mad and downvoted my comment because his feelings got hurt 😂🫵🏻 Cry some more why don’t we? All he asked for was if anyone shared them as favorites LOL.
Because you are looking for an argument and nothing more. I'm not your guy.
Buddy no one but you looking to argue 💀 I just said because he likes popular movies that doesn’t mean he has shit taste lmao. Again, please cry some more and take away my fake internet points
For the people that are upset that there’s nothing super unknown: These movies are well known for a good reason. They’re all bangers. Solid picks
Thank you! 🙌
Quick bring the knee pads out! We got a David Fincher fan on our hands!!!
Two out of ten 🫣
I thought prestige was a fincher. Ok so just replace fincher with Nolan then. Same difference. And honestly fincher would have done all those films better. Do you work in the industry?
Fincher would not have (still hasn’t) made a better movie than the Prestige

Would definitely not do that again as I now know the gravity and dangers of it all too.
So you didn’t shit where you eat? Where did you meet said costume designer? On a set? Possibly by stetting a conversation with them?
I designed a flyer for a house show/party and met her there when a mutual introduced us
Never mind I just saw your profile pic. I’m sure you work in the industry 🤣🤣😂😂
Nolan and Fincher are two brilliant filmmakers, why do we need to say that one is better than the other? 🤦♂️ why does my profile picture determine whether I work in the industry or not? 😭

Ever seen Le Mans ‘66? Considering your like of Rush and Christian Bale I think you would really enjoy it.
I have seen it! I enjoyed it!
If you're into car films, have you seen Two-Lane Blacktop?
I have not seen Rush, will have to check it out!
Prob should watch more movies. Half your list is Nolan or Vilanveu
Predestination is a must watch
This is a great list, fuck the cheeky commenters saying otherwise.
Nice pics. I have The Shining on my list 👍🏻
I dig all your picks (except Prisoners which I’ve not seen). Impossible to pick a top 10 but here goes… * Jaws * Raiders of the Lost Ark * Empire Strikes Back * Aliens * Back to the Future * Pulp Fiction * Big Lebowski * T2 * Wrath of Khan * The Matrix
Nice! Now that's a list!
I LOVE Arrival! Saw it in theaters when I was a teen, still one of my all time favorites. Great choice!
I think the problem with the critiques is there are some people who have a need for approval that their taste is eclectic. As if it confers something special about them. Let OP live. These are the movies he is enjoying right now. Will some of these rotate out in the next few years? Probably. His list is not your list or meant to be definitive. Pains me that hardly no one seen Rush. Easily in my top ten as well
Only film on this list I haven’t seen. I’ll need to watch it. … and probably rewatch Prisoners because I don’t really remember it. But I think I’ve seen it.
Giant W
Since I really like all the other movies you have but haven’t seen Rush, I guess it’s time I watch it.
Film fans get so triggered when people like popular films
Good list
Bruh
What
Rush looks out of place in this list.
I know what you mean, but I just love it so much!
18 year old white guy
I’m 22 but at least you got my race right
It was as impossible to get wrong as guessing you were a guy no older than 25.
The Departed Goodfellas Zodiac
Three brilliant films!
Have you seen Snowpiercer? It shares an energy with other films on this list.
Added it to my watchlist! 👀 thank you!
Did not think my opinion would cause so much ruffling of feathers 🤣
Ignore…interwebs is full of opinions. Yours are as good as anyone else’s.
Might as well call this a Nolan list. Is this what film fandom is now? The same 2 dozen movies I see mentioned here all the time? No foreign films, nothing prior to 1994? You’re either 15 or a very sad 30-something.

You are allowed to like a movie made before you were born. I kid but they did make movies pre 1994
I actually took 12 Angry Men out of this list only recently 🤷♂️ one of my favourites, but not as much rewatch-ability as these ten for me
Very basic of you. Good films nonetheless. There’s a reason it’s basic for them to appear on a list
I still don’t trust anyone that likes inception
Please explore what cinema has to offer outside of Hollywood.
Film bro in the flesh. Just wow
One of these is not like the others.
These are all very serious films. U like comedy or animation at all? I'd suggest checking out Paprika either way. Get some color in Ur favs.
I love serious films haha. Massive fan of comedies too, but I prefer gritty, serious and raw vibes. I’m a screenwriter and I tend to write hard, raw emotional films so my taste in films kinda reflects that 🤷♂️

dude 'rush' ... really?
Your missing Jurassic Park and The Fifth Element
Indian?
Some good stuff here. I’d recommend checking out previous decades and international cinema.
You like Nolan
All good movies but sort of one note type thing.
bro just turned 18
Shawshank, Dark Knight and Interstellar are definitely in my top 10.
You need to watch more films.
Hams Zimmer is part of the reason as to why Rush is such a great film

AI list
Hear me out - Arrival is fantastic. But what if Jeremy Renner was recast? I think about this sometimes. (No shade to the people who downloaded the Jeremy Renner app.)
How is Tango and Cash not on your list?
Not a bad list! IMO Jaws, Silence of the Lambs and T2 are missing :)
Excellent list.
Thank you!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you're a dude.
What gave it away? The name right? Definitely the name.
Ha! You can't fool me, Harriet.
the only one we share is shawshank. the rest are fine but mostly mid tier/overrated internet favorites i wouldnt watch more than one or two times.
Man, Seven though is fantastic.
We might have the same fav directors
Se7en is the best film ever made.
Agreed!
I love the Sloth scene the most. I love the details in the filmmaking. It really is such a beautiful film.
Fair list.
Ughh what lack of imagination. Nolan ain’t that great. The most Reddit film dudebro list ever.
No offense, but I used to struggle with imagining Shawshank Redemption to be in someone’s top10 movies. Quite an unremarkable film imo For the other titles, I mean… not to be disrespectful, but If I had to make the most basic filmbro top10 movie list (except for “Rush”, I guess), there’s a high chance It would be the same one On second thought, this might be a satirical list, which is cool except I would swap rush and arrival with pulp fiction and goodfellas or the departed for the ultimate filmbro starter pack
However, not to sound snobbish, to me personally, its a little predictable, basic and bland movie, unfortunately Definately not top-100 or let alone top10 of all time
That is your opinion, and I respect it 🙂
And what are your top ten then
In no particular order I would say Roma (2018) Apocalypse Now Come and See The Worst Person in the World (and “oslo, aug 31”) Melancholia Ikiru Amelie 2001: a space odyssey Handmaiden City of God Aftersun The Cranes are Flying Babylon Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Grand Budapest Hotel Fallen Angels Kwaidan Seven Samurai Good Time Grave of the Fireflies Dr Strangelove Ratatoille Parasyte Portrait of a Lady on Fire Perfect Blue Oldboy Truman show (Not top10 but these are my favorite, feel free to share ur opinion)
I too thoroughly enjoy the smell of my own farts
My dude said Nolan can take up most these spots.
“Most” = 4/10? 🤔
They were using hyperbole and 4/10 is still a very large amount for a top 10.
I’m sorry, I fail to see the issue with that? 🤷♂️

Now this is a top 10
Virgin for sure
damn you caught me
Why you out yourself like that bro 😭
What’s the alternative? Arguing it? 😂 best way to deal with these people is agree with them 🤣
[If we could post images in this sub, I’d be posting this.](https://live.staticflickr.com/4889/44904409975_8bb0aaab9c_z.jpg)
So cliché lol. Don’t tell me you put a lot of thought into this.
What’s your top 10?
Go to the Criteron sub. for quality films recommendations. European and American classics, directors with artistic qualities, etc. Enough with the Christopher Nolan crap loved by male teenagers.
Okay but what’s your top 10
Nah no thought went into this at all, you’re completely right. Only been watching films all my life.
Another Christopher Nolan fanboy. Very telling about your taste (lack of) in films. C. Nolan : a dumb person’s idea of a good director.
Huh
I wish we could post images in this sub.
You really like Nolan hu...
Other countries make movies, too, BTW.
