It’s the same for me. I suspect it’s because garlic is usually served in smaller amounts but I’m not sure. Raw onions are my top enemy.

Onions are kryptonite for me. Gabe up garlic too and feel even better. Tho both smell so good !

I'm the same as you. I can eat garlic (even in larger servings) and not experience symptoms but a small amount of cooked or raw onion will set me off. Onion and garlic commonly appear on ingredient labels together, but I've found a few products/recipes that just incorporate garlic. My favorite is Classico Pesto, which I've been using as a sauce on gluten-free pasta and as a spread on gluten-free sandwiches. Another favorite is La Choy Teriyaki Stir Fry Sauce, which I use to season proteins and vegetables. You can find both of these at Food Lion. Note: There is another La Choy Teriyaki sauce that doesn't have as clean ingredients so make sure you buy the one that's labeled "Stir Fry."

Ooh the La Choy sauce sounds nice...is it also free of wheat though? Standard soy sauce still contains gluten and such, thats why I ask.

Monash approves regular soy sauce in quantities of 42 g or less. Gluten itself is not a FODMAP, but fructans and GOS are. The fermentation process for soy sauce breaks down some of the FODMAPS, so it is tolerable even though it contains some wheat (kind of like sourdough). However, if you have celiac disease, you would not want to consume soy sauce.

I use Spring onion (green bits only) and dried chives in place of onions

HIGHLY recommend the Fig app. It’s free (though you can pay for more features). You can select your specific allergens/triggers by type OR by specific food. So you could do all alliums, but you can also just select onions as a trigger. They have a barcode scanner (useful for grocery store trips) and a feature where you can search for foods that don’t contain onion, and find sauces/snacks/etc.
