Usually, I make up names. For this playthrough of fallout 4 though, I looked up the names Codworth can say.
I was going to make a Cowboy called Cooper, but I kept scrolling and saw that Codsworth can call you Orgasmo, so uh, that's my characters name now.
Wait, Codsworth has names he can say audibly?
I knew Vasco in Starfield could do this. Had no idea this was a thing in Fallout.
Been playing FO76 lately and DL’d FO4 tonight for the next gen update.
Where can I find the list of names Codsworth can speak?
[Full list on the Fallout Wiki](https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Codsworth/recognized_names)
I started multiple new games just to hear Codsworth call my character Erectus and Fuckface.
I regret nothing.
EDIT- Swapped link to the independent fallout wiki because the fandom one doesn't work properly.
Also if he can’t say the 2nd word he will go back to the first as long as he can say it. He couldn’t say my last name so he just called me “Mr. *First name*”
I was honestly choked that he had those in his library, but not Rhys. Sure, there's Reese, but that's not (technically) my name, and there's literally a character named Knight Rhys in the game!!!
A lot of superhero names seem viable.
Kal-El is the most obvious, but you can easily make Kurt Wagner, Bruce Wayne, Kamala Khan, Emma Frost, Peter Parker, Charles Xavier.
I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to complain, I was able to find it on another website, I’ve just never had any website so steadfastly refuse to load before, it was really weird, when I tried opening it through Reddit both on mobile and my pc it just sat there loading infinitely, when I tried to open it manually on browser, both on pc (google, Firefox, opera and edge) and on mobile (google and safari) it would brick the page and force me to close out of the window to shut it down, I’ve just never seen anything like it before
Nah its all good mate, no need to apologise. It worked fine for me so that's why I linked it but it didn't work for a load of other users for some reason. Same thing happened to you, happened to others too so I changed the link in case anyone else might want to make use of it.
I just learnt about it too. I named my character Barry cause the wife was Nora, geddit? Then after I went through the intro scene up until codsworth tells you to go to concord, he suddenly mentioned "master Barry" and I was like wtf
I forgot codsworth can say some names, imagine my glee when King Glizzy The Meat Hammer walks into sanctuary and I hear “Mr Hammer!” A reunion for the ages
I forgot he couldn't say Hancock (Odd, considering the Boston setting). When I named my character John Hancock, Codsworth calls him Mr. John.
I so want him to say, "Mr. John, we have no more lemon Pledge or Windex."
I would use my real name but when I looked at the list I realized codsworth doesn't recognize my fairly uncommon name. My name is also used in a lot of Italian movies and the female variant of my name is recognized by codsworth so F me I guess. Anyone can feel free to guess it, hint: it starts with an A.
lol I chose codsworth as my companion this time because I made my name Kelvin randomly and he said it and it was just like a “okay ur my buddy now” moment
I'm surprised by the amount of people in the comments who didn't know Codsworth can say your name, it was specifically mentioned for one of the game announcements
Jepharion of House Anmeran, Duke of the Serrated Cliffs, Lord of Bawndo and Creft, Master of Chickens, Gilly Drinker, First Spear of Cumto, and Supreme Commander of the Potbelly Army.
I use the same name for every character I make in any game and like to imagine them all being alternate versions of the same person in different universes.
That's a good way to name a character - after a state, I mean. On the subject of John, my daughter's middle name is June, I like to wind her up by calling her John lol.
I’m gonna guess it’s more so “would someone else have this name in universe” thing. There could be a fallout character called Derek, but there’s no khajit from Skyrim named Derek
I do fake names and professions for each game. FO3 had Sam the medical orderly. NV had Saul the pizza delivery guy. FO4 had Quincy the Nuka Cola salesman.
For my run with the new patch it's George the contract lawyer.
Yeah I did what I could with it. Quincy only did a short stint in the army, logistics corps, and his wife was cheating on him so he wasn’t in a huge hurry to avenge her
Makes for more of a heroic story. If I start out by headcanoning my Sole Survivor as a badass terminator war hero... what's left for him to become throughout the narrative?
Sam went from being his dad's underappreciated assistant to a living legend, the righteous lone wasteland ranger, giving hope to the downtrodden.
Saul united the squabbling New Vegas factions using his stolen Securatron army, resisting the corrupt NCR and barbaric Legion alike, becoming a hero of the people.
Quincy became a billionaire warlord, using the Minuteman dream of an independent Commonwealth to seize and keep power away from the other factions.
Arcs, baby. Arcs.
do you also add scarring and blemishes over the course of the adventure? cause i love when games let me freely add those over the course of a playthrough.
Indeed! Same with hair. George has been in the wastes for 8 days now, so his pencil moustache has grown out into a beard and his hair is all over the place. Been hiding inside power armour for the big fights though so no scars yet.
I always make up names for my characters different than mine, those characters aren't me. They don't have my voice, my appearance and a lot of the time my views. I also sure as shit don't have a fraction of their ability, so it just doesn't make sense for me to give characters my name.
I took it one step further and made my reddit name based off my favorite character I've ever roleplayed, which happened to be Fallout 4. I named my Sole Survivor Dennis and he became General of The Minutemen and Director of The Institute.
Yeah, personally have never and will never play a self-insert. I'm me all day, every day. Maybe I wanna be Victoria Valentina, the assassin and Silver Shroud nerd, or Jimmy Fuckface, the chem-addled cannibal with a deathclaw gauntlet and a hunger for liver and beans, for a change.
Interesting. You never not once played yourself? I 100% always have. I find the gamez way more imersive that way. Making choices i would make in real life is a lot easier than trying to figure out what my character would make.
I love that. To me it depends too on how intricate the character creation is and what the setting is for sure. Some games it’s easier for me to do my real name but others (i.e. Dark Souls) I feel like I prefer doing an alias. Case by case but love hearing other people’s take on it.
I am myself religiously, though I use the English translation of my German-Czech name. Seeing things like "I, Dr. Lawrence Jackson, am seeing a very small amount of caps in this discussion" is so incredibly satisfying.
I tend to play any game with a custom character as a self insert, just amplifies the escapism aspect I suppose, I like being me but I don't like being where I am so I imagine it's really me in the videogame world. However, I hate my real name, because the only time anyone calls me by it is when they're yelling at me or they want something. I've always been fond of the name Nathaniel so I usually will name my character either that or Nathan, just Nate feels too short I guess. I also tend to name any medieval fantasy character Varek, and I really wish I could remember where that started because it's not really a good name but every time I'm sitting on the name screen some little voice in the back of my head insists it has to be that one..
weirdly enough, i name my characters something else for a similar reason. i like building a new person to project my escapism into, if that makes sense. for fallout if i made myself i wouldnt be able to relate because idk how my life would be in that situation, but if i make a new guy i can sprinkle bits of myself into him.
I usually use real name on the first save then realize after playing some time "Man, this character's stats and skills are shit," so I just start another playthrough that I play more and I don't use my name on that one
With this character specifically I name him Nate, because that's his name. But in games where the player character doesn't have a canon name, I think of a name myself, never use my own name
Depends for me first playthrough I go for my real name or something similar to it On the second playthrough I usually go for a stupidly generic name like John Smith just because it's funny to see a guy called John Smith beat up a death claw lol
Almost always on my first playthrough of RPGs, I'll play as myself, making choices that I'd most likely make in real life, but every subsequent playthrough I like to lean more into the "RP" part of RPG, so I won't use my name.
Haven’t used my real name since Pokémon red. The game asked me what my name was. I told it. Didn’t realise that was my characters name too now!!! I wanted to be ash!! I wanted to catch ‘em all !!
I suck at naming things, so I often default to my real name when I'm feeling uncreative. In fantasy games I sometimes alter my real name a bit to make it more fantasy like.
I think i am doing both and more. Sometimes i am using my real name, sometimes i am creating new character with new name and sometimes i am just using characters from other games ( for example Jill Valentine, Geralt of Rivia etc. ) and the last one is possible thanks to mods.
Depends on my mood.
I use a shorter version of my name for Fallout. Off topic but for Elder Scrolls I name characters based on how their culture would name their own like Orc names being first name-gro/gra-clan name. Or if there isn’t a specific way to name a specific race I’ll just look up foreign language names or words that mean something related to my characters vision. My Dunmer’s name is Malek Eeru which means Ash King.
Usually, I make up names. For this playthrough of fallout 4 though, I looked up the names Codworth can say. I was going to make a Cowboy called Cooper, but I kept scrolling and saw that Codsworth can call you Orgasmo, so uh, that's my characters name now.
What a great reference, loved that movie. Also didn't know Codworth could say names, damnit, want to start new game so badly now.
Wait, Codsworth has names he can say audibly? I knew Vasco in Starfield could do this. Had no idea this was a thing in Fallout. Been playing FO76 lately and DL’d FO4 tonight for the next gen update. Where can I find the list of names Codsworth can speak?

Fuckin Erectus, nice.
I'm currently using the name Testiclese.
do you find my friend Testicles somewhat funny ? i'll warn you that he's brother of roman general Biggus Dickus
Favorite AC character
I wish they had done the name recordings for other companions. Nick and Codsworth share a voice actor for Todd's sake!
Unrelated but I can’t stand fandom wiki. Page wouldn’t even load 😩
And they keep consuming fan wikis into their aggressive terribleness.
Can you combine names? Like Willy Wiggelsworth or Red Rogers?
I don't think so. In my experience if you use two valid names, Codsworth will treat the 2nd as a surname and address you as "Mr/.Mrs (surname)"
This is true, named my character Nate Howard and he called him Mr. Howadd
>Mr. Howadd Solid Boston accent
Oh God can't imagine a Bostonian robot butler. "You want some feckin cahfee Mista Howadd?"
That certainly clashes lol
it would be "cawfee" and Codsworth would just call you "khed" no matter what name you picked.
Also if he can’t say the 2nd word he will go back to the first as long as he can say it. He couldn’t say my last name so he just called me “Mr. *First name*”
Makes sense, he's basically robo Alfred and he calls Batman "Mr. Bruce"
>Codsworth will treat the 2nd as a surname and address you as "Mr/.Mrs (surname)" Ah yes, Mr. Fuckface. Much more formal.
It’s true I always found it novel to be called mr. Last name. For that reason I always use my real name
Yeah if your name is fuck dick he calls you Mr dick
I remember a comment from someone annoyed that Codsworth could say “Captain Fuckface” but not “Greg”, which was his name.
That made me laugh audibly
Same link but on the independent fallout wiki [Codsworth/recognized names](https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Codsworth/recognized_names)
So I could become Assface? This is good information.
You ever seen the series Preacher? Because you've just given me a great idea for a new mod and playthrough
ok that list is a lot bigger than I expected. Lol "Assface"
Fuck. Fucker. Fuckface. The Trinity of fucking names
I wish I could name a character biggus dickus though. They’re obviously Monty Python fans so why not?
Nicholas, Nipple are options Nicole isn't. I noticed Nicole not working on my current run, but didn't look until now.
https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Codsworth/recognized_names
What in the actual hell is wrong with that website? Literally will not load on any device I try and crashes my browsers when I try to open it manually
Just swapped the link to the independent fallout wiki which should work better mate.

Codsworth walked so Vasco could run
my character is named Chad Remington i find it very funny he goes around saying "Mr. Chad ..."
I just learnt about it too. I named my character Barry cause the wife was Nora, geddit? Then after I went through the intro scene up until codsworth tells you to go to concord, he suddenly mentioned "master Barry" and I was like wtf
He can say Lucy. Okey dokey.
He can't say "Goosey", though. •⁔•
Because the full name is actually "Goose" which he says. Just As Lucy is Loose. Get your facts straight.
If only you could rename Dogmeat to Choda Boy or JizzMaster Zero.
This made me spit my water out lol
I usually make up a similar English name and I was shook when Codsworth called me Cornelius. One of the most pleasant surprises in rpg's.
I would also like to join the elite band of legends who go by the name Orgasmo.
wow, I‘m gonna name my next character this. Where‘s the list?
https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Codsworth/recognized_names
I forgot codsworth can say some names, imagine my glee when King Glizzy The Meat Hammer walks into sanctuary and I hear “Mr Hammer!” A reunion for the ages
I didn’t even know he could say my name lmao until he just randomly said it
I forgot he couldn't say Hancock (Odd, considering the Boston setting). When I named my character John Hancock, Codsworth calls him Mr. John. I so want him to say, "Mr. John, we have no more lemon Pledge or Windex."
Companion named Hancock.
🤣 thats awesome
I would use my real name but when I looked at the list I realized codsworth doesn't recognize my fairly uncommon name. My name is also used in a lot of Italian movies and the female variant of my name is recognized by codsworth so F me I guess. Anyone can feel free to guess it, hint: it starts with an A.
lol I chose codsworth as my companion this time because I made my name Kelvin randomly and he said it and it was just like a “okay ur my buddy now” moment
Excuse me what? He can call you orgasmo???
He calls me Sir Orgasmo, to be exact.
I think that's beautiful
I'm surprised by the amount of people in the comments who didn't know Codsworth can say your name, it was specifically mentioned for one of the game announcements
I've never known a game with my name in the vocab. It was pretty cool the first time I heard Codworth say, Mister Darryl!
John Fallout
William Skyrim
Joe Fallout NV
Michael Oblivion
Kevin Elder Scrolls Online Summerset Isles
Preston “Fallout” Tactics
James "Brotherhood of" Steele
Michael Yes Man
Nicholas Christian Richter
James Workshop
Jeff for nearly all games. From Bloodborne to Fallout to Stardew Valley.
ALL HAIL THE DRAGONBORN, SIR… um… Jeff of Whiterun!
Nah you have to change the spelling for a fantasy fit. Jeph of Whiterun
Jepharion of House Anmeran, Duke of the Serrated Cliffs, Lord of Bawndo and Creft, Master of Chickens, Gilly Drinker, First Spear of Cumto, and Supreme Commander of the Potbelly Army.
AKA Jeffrey, Storm Paladin.
Brawndo is what plants crave
Geoff
Loincloth Jeff
My name is *Jeffff*
Manaymesjef 🫡
Jesk?
**"Tonight...Jeff joins the hunt..."**
Might have to do another play through of Bloodborne soon.
There are some who call me...Tim
Tim nice but dim?
I use the same name for every character I make in any game and like to imagine them all being alternate versions of the same person in different universes.
Iv always used "John" growing up. I now do states, my current F4 is Utah
That's a good way to name a character - after a state, I mean. On the subject of John, my daughter's middle name is June, I like to wind her up by calling her John lol.
MahnameaJeeeff
Real world based RPGs: Real name. Fantasy RPGs: Fantasy name. JRPGs: Canon name.
What do you mean by real world based? Like the sims???
I’m gonna guess it’s more so “would someone else have this name in universe” thing. There could be a fallout character called Derek, but there’s no khajit from Skyrim named Derek
Pretty much. In reverse, naming an American hero "Vulon Vanos" would feel pretty off.
I do fake names and professions for each game. FO3 had Sam the medical orderly. NV had Saul the pizza delivery guy. FO4 had Quincy the Nuka Cola salesman. For my run with the new patch it's George the contract lawyer.
Saul failed to beat a deathclaw with his own bare hands, making *him* the wastelands biggest loser!
Saul Goodman -finger snap-
Nuka cola salesman sounds so interesting to play. I wish fallout 4 didn’t fix your character’s background as much as it did
Yeah I did what I could with it. Quincy only did a short stint in the army, logistics corps, and his wife was cheating on him so he wasn’t in a huge hurry to avenge her
"YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY SON, SHAUN!"
I mean... the test was coming back in the mail when the bombs dropped. I searched every post office in Boston, we'll legit never know.
"Radiation exposure messed up the genetic test. Looks like it's impossible to know..."
Praise Atom
To be honest, I get past it by just assuming everyone was conscripted. Nora is a little hard to justify, though.
Yeah it's similar to the water trader I usually make. Easiest way to make money.
yoo my fo3 guy was named Quincy
Why such… ordinary backgrounds?
Makes for more of a heroic story. If I start out by headcanoning my Sole Survivor as a badass terminator war hero... what's left for him to become throughout the narrative? Sam went from being his dad's underappreciated assistant to a living legend, the righteous lone wasteland ranger, giving hope to the downtrodden. That's actually very cool 🤝

Indeed! Same with hair. George has been in the wastes for 8 days now, so his pencil moustache has grown out into a beard and his hair is all over the place. Been hiding inside power armour for the big fights though so no scars yet.
Wait… you can roleplay in an RPG? Why did nobody tell me this? I need to go back and do them all again now.
Made up name. I have a dumb Dutch name which never fits in a game.
BILL
Now we need to know your name
Lodewijk
You could technically anglicise it into Ludwig.
Lol just call yourself Dutch!
Alright Arthur, one more job!
Usually it’s silly names or music references. I named my BoS character Steely Dan, because he wears power armor.
This is a great idea. Now thinking of jumping on skyrim and making an Argonian mage named King Gizzard
I always make up names for my characters different than mine, those characters aren't me. They don't have my voice, my appearance and a lot of the time my views. Alias, always alias. My real name is quite boring so at least in games, I don’t want to use it.
Shirley, your name isn't Johnny..
I am serious and don't call me Shirley
r/angryupvote
Gaaaaarrrryyyy
i hope there's a mod that makes every speech option variations of "gary"
In my latest play through I was high and eating a toblerone so my guy is called Tobleroney
Toby LeRone
Retired italian mobster who settled down just before the Great War after serving in Canada
I am myself religiously, though I use the English translation of my German-Czech name. Seeing things like "I, Dr. Lawrence Jackson, am seeing a very small amount of caps in this discussion" is so incredibly satisfying.
My latest name was like 148PB NMVe SSD
I just use my real name every game
Miss Boobies
I tend to play any game with a custom character as a self insert, just amplifies the escapism aspect I suppose, I like being me but I don't like being where I am so I imagine it's really me in the videogame world. However, I hate my real name, because the only time anyone calls me by it is when they're yelling at me or they want something. Only in FO4 because its in Codsworths dictionary and I like him calling me “master” 😈
I never make myself. So, no. I just choose a name I think suits my character.
With this character specifically I name him Nate, because that's his name. But in games where the player character doesn't have a canon name, I think of a name myself, never use my own name
My raider/rampage character is called 'CorseHock'
Johnny Fallout of course
Try Fuckface, totally worth it in Fallout 4.
I use the same fake name for everything. Even job interviews and TSA paperwork.
The name is part of the roll-playing. So unless they're a mediocrevWestern European male, I'd pick something different.
Geralt of Sanctuary
Anyone noticed that F4 has some basic names voiced in some parts? I named my guy Ben and Codsworth called me 'Master Ben' in the intro
Mr pubes ✌️
Nice 😎
I use my real name in FO4 because I like that Codsworth can say it But, for example, in Skyrim I never use it, because it wouldn't fit the setting
I do both tbh. It depends on my mood.
My name is not Gordon, but usually I go with Gordon, from Gordon Lightfoot
Yes, it's a merciful coincidence my name is John Fallout.
I always use the name “Billy Bob Bartholomew” bc funny
Always real for Fallout. Cool finding a holotape labeled “kill (my name)” from the Enclave after taking their power armor.
Used my own, made some up, finally finished my fnv run as Schiddy McAss.
Dicky Mcpenis here, I always use my real name
I always use a fake name.
I go by TaintTickler6000 on everything. It's just who I am now.
Names Codsworth can pronounce.
My real name because I am the best
Absolutely! 😅
I use Fuck face in FO4
Real name and I demand the character looks exactly like me
Tingle McCringleberry
My name in the game is eetass
I have three reoccurring names. Bruce Campbell, Sir Testicles or my favorite, Fuckface.
Divinity 2 started my history of calling people "Rahimus Erectius." That lizard has started a family branching space time
I always use "I farted." as my character's name because I'm a troglodyte and it makes me laugh when other characters address me.
I use my name
Fake always
Real.
I use the names of friends that have passed so it’s like they’re living a cool life all over again
My current fallout 4 character has the name “caca peepee”….i am a 20 year old man…but me and my little brother think it’s funny so it’s worth it
Yes
But Snobsworth will say your name. audio wise. he will SAY your name.
If you call him Jerry codsworth uses the name Jerry. I thought that was cool. (I made a Seinfeld build).
Haven’t used my real name since Pokémon red. The game asked me what my name was. I told it. Didn’t realise that was my characters name too now!!! I wanted to be ash!! I wanted to catch ‘em all !!
I have 2 , use irl for main, then for chaos run I use master boobies as it’s funny to go round as a psycho bandit called boobies
I suck at naming things, so I often default to my real name when I'm feeling uncreative. In fantasy games I sometimes alter my real name a bit to make it more fantasy like.
I use my real names but both of them are hella unique names so it works for games
my character right now its called penis warrior
I think i am doing both and more. Sometimes i am using my real name, sometimes i am creating new character with new name and sometimes i am just using characters from other games ( for example Jill Valentine, Geralt of Rivia etc. ) and the last one is possible thanks to mods. Depends on my mood.
My real name is billy bong buckfutter so i always use my real name
Real for first run then I play dress ups
I use a shorter version of my name for Fallout. Off topic but for Elder Scrolls I name characters based on how their culture would name their own like Orc names being first name-gro/gra-clan name. Or if there isn’t a specific way to name a specific race I’ll just look up foreign language names or words that mean something related to my characters vision. My Dunmer’s name is Malek Eeru which means Ash King.
I use my real name now that I’ve legally changed it
They never have Kenzie, always McKenzie/MacKenzie. So I'm forced to go with Kenny
I use whatever is on my desk at the time.
Sometimes
