I wish, the minutemen always felt a little shallow to me. I think they’re fun because you get to tip your toes into all of the other factions if you side with them but they still don’t feel like a full faction and you never really felt like a general. Instead of commanding militias to fight stuff or build stuff I felt like I was babysitting the entirety of Massachusetts from 3 gunners.

undreamedgore

I agree, I still support and prefer the minute men, but they really need to be able to stand on their own.

InflationCold3591

They absolutely stand on their own if you properly defend their settlements. Put up 4 regular machine gun turret and 4 to 8 guard posts in every settlement and arm guards with decent armor weapons and they will mow down any raiding parties that come for them. If you do this, and use your flare gun when you need help those well armed guards will actually show up and save your bacon.

undreamedgore

Settlements don't have the population to man the stations, and I don't have the supplies to defend every settlement. Especially when the enemies spawn inside the settlement.

InflationCold3591

8 stations is -3- settlers (9 would be optimal I guess). If you can’t get 4 settlers in all your settlements you are doing it wrong.

undreamedgore

How do you get 4 settlers per settlement? I never have enough crystals for the recruitment beacons. Also, how the hell are you arming your people so much. I can barely carry a spare pice of armor or weapon.

InflationCold3591

One great source of crystals is Jamaica Plain. There is a series of laser tripeire traps there that when you disarm gets you I believe two crystals. There are about 50 laser wire traps there. Also crystals come from Crystal decanter, magnifying glasses, I think microscopes. Essentially any scientific site will have sources of crystals. So, Hallucinogen or any place like that is a good source. As far as being able to carry a lot of armor is concerned, have you tried increasing your characters strength? It makes a big difference. Also, you can make leather armor with the pocketed attribute if you don’t normally wear armor and just wear it on missions to tote armor and weapons around to your settlements.

InflationCold3591

Also, your companion can carry about 200 units of weight of material. Just open up the talk dialogue with them and tell them you want to trade and then you can put whatever you want in their inventory until they’re full. You can get the items back in the same.

Working_Chipmunk_666

Dude I play on survival and carry 2 guns, full armor and an outfit at all times, and I’m not even a strength build, drop some ammo or junk

undreamedgore

See I carry 6 guns because I'm always out of ammo for any one gun.

Emma__Gummy

out of curiosity, what are you carrying, i can't get below 4

Working_Chipmunk_666

Personally I dump everything EVERYTHING when I arrive to my HQ (usually hangman alley since it’s in the center) I mean everything ammo, aid, misc items, weapons, apparel. Once you’re empty grab 2 guns I usually do a rifle and a pistol and I grab ammo only for those 2 guns I let the rest of my ammo stock up so when I come back to hq I just rotate my rifle type to a different ammo and same with my pistol, armor only carry your base plus armor pieces (unless it’s an outfit) and you’ll be leaving your base under 70 weight time

WailfulJeans44

Well there's crystal shipments you can buy, just go looking through the vendors. Aside from that, I think settlers can get crystal when assigned to a scav station.

wolfwhore666

I really think that’s the point though. Seeing the bit of dark humor FO is known for. I think it’s making a bit of a joke about armed militia. The MM have such a history of being disorganized and having a lot of betrayal as so much of the work falls on the shoulders of the leaders as people can’t pull their own weight. They failed to protect their HQ from a bunch of crabs and were mostly taken out, then they failed at Quincy particularly because of betrayal and partially because all the back up chickened out. Even Preston took tail and ran. When you join the institute you tell that guy as general to “stand down that’s an order” and he refuses. That’s the problem they have no structure, no dedication and no unity. The BOS are successful because people in it are dedicated and respect the Chains that Binds. They follow orders Danse called in back up and they came full force. They took the airport and they held that position. The whole “Ad Victorian” victory at all cost is what drives them. They are warriors through and through. The MM are mostly settles with basic gear and no training. Even the Railroad members were dedicated enough to sacrifice themselves to make sure the leadership escaped the Switchboard.

[deleted]

The faction could’ve been so much more. Had more questlines past the MQ. A lot of mods make them amazing, but modders shouldn’t have to save the day.

ifyouarenuareu

You could’ve *gasp* have named NPCs show up as settlers! To give you a reason to actually do it AND advance the mm in an organic way! Someone should really pay me for these advanced game design ideas.

3nd0cr1n3_Syst3m

Dude, the queen mirelurk battle tho!

BottasHeimfe

that's part of why I like the mod We Are the Minutemen, found here [https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6443](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/6443) it adds a lot more flavor and gives you a means of "recruiting" minutemen settlers through a workbench you get after securing the Castle. It gives you a good way of making a bunch of moderately armed settlers for decent prices and they level with the player. you can also get Power Armored Minutemen this way. all in all its a good mod that makes the Minutemen more enjoyable.

Grouchy-Struggle-722

At a minute's notice 🗣️💯

Ezekiel2121

When you need help in seconds they’re minutes away!

RAMRODtheMASTER

As General of the Minutemen, I should have been able to team up full on with the Railroad, take over the Institute after Father dies and tell the board to piss off cause we’re helping the world now and all the synths are on my side, use the automatron Robco factory to make an army to support my troops, defeat the Brotherhood of Steel and take their shit, and start rebuilding America. But we got the few bland endings we got. Really my only major complaint was just being kinda bland for endings. Hell we could take Nuka world from the raiders and bottle the shit to sell there and use the cloning machine to make an unending supply of livestock.

Obiwancanole

You would've upgraded the Minutemen into the Continental Army.

RAMRODtheMASTER

Oooo I like that.

LongSchlongdonf

Yeah I like how you’re the general of the minutemen but where is my ability to give orders and them listen to me

Mage_43

Based Minutemen enjoyer

No_Research4416

I did complete the Minutemen ending yesterday and now time to do the DLCs

Cristianmarchese

OH MY GOD, litteraly did and doing the same Did you start by doing all the DLC With Far Harbor?

No_Research4416

Atomatron I rushed through new now I’m going to deal with far harbor

FrucklesWithKnuckles

Gotta get those robot provisioners so the settlers stay well fed and defended before moving on to new horizons. Least selfless Minuteman.

ScarletNinja66

"In 2287 we took a little trip" "Along with general nate down the mighty mystic" "We took a little radstag and we took a little tato's" "And we cought the bloody institute in a town in Nantucket" (It really doesnt work that well with the song)

Kingslayer_baka

Valuable_Knee_6820

Musket mod Traditional rags and outfit Let’s bring back THE minutemen

Maximum-Cake-1567

I’ve always felt like they missed out on the minutemen’s potential. To make them a bigger part like a DLC to expand them throughout the north east or like help establish a bigger form of government or something. I don’t know this could just be the lack of sleep

dankguard1

I would have loved the settlement system to incorporate some faction settlements that evolved through quests and radiant quests. Like the Cambridge police station changes some but not a lot. As we do quests for Rhys and Haylen it gets slightly cleaner or an armory begins to fill up with materials. Or a storage vault for the tech we find in the wasteland that slowly fills up to a preset point. If you ran a caravan to it this would provide some low level benefits in the forms of small stashes of goods.

Basically-Boring

Where’s the “How it feels to talk to Preston Garvey”

imbasstarded

Ideologically I love the Minutemen over all the factions in F4, but in execution you’re literally the only person in the whole faction that’s actually defending and allying settlements. I feel the while point of the general is to delegate that effort to the Minutemen soldiers and you as the General can work on fortifying Minutemen settlements and establishing supply lines or something

Kingslayer_baka

Yeah i think bethesta had a good idea they Just executed it poorly because when preston Said i am a General i thought like "Oh cool i can now order the minutemen arround to do my shit" but then i realised "Oh yeah i have to do everything" Thats the Problem with Lot of Stuff on theory everything sounds perfect but in practice its a hell lotta complicated

Avid_Chillin

How it feels to have your entire settlement destroyed by 3 raiders in power armor with missile launchers or a gang of Super Mutant Overlords with miniguns

Kingslayer_baka

Sounds like a you problem because eatch of my settlements are armed with at least 200+ sentry guns and 5 power armor not to say the least that at least three of my guys have a fat man

Avid_Chillin

You're not the Minutemen at that point, you're just reassembling the United States military.

Kingslayer_baka

I prefare to call it "Minutemen Premium

Ezekiel2121

I like using mods to turn them into a peacekeeping force for the Brotherhood. Gets the minutemen REAL gear instead of shitty laser muskets and no armor, allows them to actually be a useful force to protect the commonwealth.

Atlantic_Penguin2k

I still need a mod that gives all my Minutemen tricorn hats and long coats for that colonial flair

K1NG_R0G

How it feels to be the general of the minutmen (you’re the only one actually doing anything)

Away-Plant-8989

I wish there was more of that era music on the station.

Uncle_Rebecca

Honestly I was really let down with the Minutemen after my first playthrough. They just don't feel like a real faction, plus you might be the general but it still feels like Preston is in charge.

Kingslayer_baka

You are the general only as a title Your real rank is "beeing Prestons Errand boy"

BrightPerspective

Honestly, the devs just needed to spice up that quest line; it's fine to have combat missions to go to, that don't all have story, but...well, we do need more than that lol

That-Boyo-J

I say this whenever someone mentions the Minutemen: Militarized Minutemen is cannon in my mind

Obiwancanole

Absolutely, my headcannon is that the Minutemen we see are descended from the Massachusetts National Guard nicknamed "Minutemen."

That-Boyo-J

That would actually make a lot of sense, and this would kinda make them another continuation of the United States Military like the Brotherhood. I definitely feel like they were the cannon ending for Fallout 4

Relative-Length-6356

Brotherhood? Enclave? Pfft I'll make my own remnant of American culture with artillery and laser muskets! Know what? Forget the remnant thing!

BigBuns2023

I loved the idea of it until having to defend my settlements and always having to take time away from my main missions to do them made me feel overwhelmed. I ended up hating the minute men

dankguard1

Minute men? You mean infinite experience glitch?

Vault_Boy_23

Minutemen-Brotherhood alliance would be a pretty powerful thing, Minutemen govern and do shit in the Commonwealth and the Brotherhood gets any old experimental military tech. It'd basically be a Wasteland NATO

Fragrant-Address9043

Laser Muskets were cool, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to put a golf ball sized hole through a raider’s chest.

minutemanred

So real

Mr_Derp___

Goddamn right.

Armedes369

Yessir!

Jumpy-Aide-901

LIES. That not how it feels at all.
