If there's a 30% boost its great for making keys. I've barely gotten any boosts today (20% and birdie, that's it) so I'm a little pessimistic. But I did make some tools.
Last Gold Island I wasted too many keys etc opening gates, and then there was no golden gifts boost, so I'm trying to avoid that and just collect as many keys as possible.
i make tools and keys and occasionally gold bars (i can still upgrade my storage areas)
personally i do not find finishing gold island worth it, the amount of tools and keys you would need to open all of it may not be proportional to the amount of energy you could get out of it. it might be nice to test how far each opened gate can get you in terms of making keys and tools. that way you can determine when to stop or to keep on going.
some boosters should work, the -20% and -30% off works here (x5 multiplier when you get this to collect resources for keys and tools). the gold box booster works here as well when it appears.
I only make tools and keys when an energy boost is on (or collect enough during boost to make up to 20 keys and 40 or so of each tool.) depending on my energy I hope 1 cave or all. I make 50 bars just to hit that level but that’s it. I never have even tried to finish it.
I read it on the fb group that it takes almost ~850 of keys and tools to finish the whole thing. Also make 10 keys when there’s 30% booster and open chests to get tools dont make tools
I've had 3 proper attempts previously and never quite made it. It's even harder now they've stopped the Gold Box booster.
If you want to complete Gold Island, you need to go in VERY prepared.
You need to start with 1000s of energy and rubies, full dinner table, loads of time spheres etc so that you've got a constant source of energy
You probably need over 260 keys and 300 of each tool before you even start, then craft the rest of what you need whilst it's open. You'll need 4500 ingots to upgrade the key and tool maker (or you won't have enough time to create what you need).
Whilst people give good advice about waiting for boosters, if you want to complete the island, you can't really wait as you always need Keys and Tools in production in order to complete within the time limit (you need at least 4 days).
Aim to open the gates/plates with the purple boxes first as these give the free pickaxes and keys.
I used to make gold bars to upgrade my storage but they’re all at the top level now. I would make keys and tools. I thought I could finish it a couple of times. But I don’t think it’s worth it. Have fun!
