The Batman fandom is chock full of stories about Bruce Wayne and his many, many adopted children. Guardians of the Galaxy has a pretty strong found family dynamic as does Natsume's Book of Friends. The 'Dadzawa' tag in the My Hero Academia fandom is super popular. There's usually Present Mic/Eraserhead in the background though so it's probably not the fandom you're looking for if you want things 100% gen.

choerrybullet

Yes! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Batman so I’ve been meaning to get into it. Guardians of the Galaxy as well, and I think I’ve already read all of the Natsume fics out there :-)

elegant_pun

Lots of ABO fics about Batman and his many, many adopted children, too....

queerblunosr

Yup! Lots of both platonic omegaverse fics as well as shippy/romantic ones :)

Duemont8

One Piece, the fandom has ships but there are a lot of gen fics for it too. (16,723) The canon is very devoid of romance too and it has a lot of found family relationships. Basically every familal type of relationship shown is made up of people who are not actually blood related lol. Found family being greater than blood is a recurring theme in the series.

applepearman176

Have you tried Marvel? Massive fandom so there’s a lot of Avengers found family and IronDad fics to choose from.

choerrybullet

Never tried it because the whole Marvel universe always seemed a little overwhelming. Maybe I should give it a try.

SenritsuJumpsuit

Am so bummed how short lived child loki care is since it's far more interesting then Peter Parker lol

Front-Pomelo-4367

I mostly read shipfic, but Avatar: the Last Airbender has 13k genfics on AO3 (17k F/M, 9.5k M/M, 5.7k F/F in case people were wondering) and it's had a few revitalisations since its original airing - during lockdown when it ended up on Netflix, and I think again now with the new live-action reminding people that it exists Anything with a close-knit group of friends that all have some level of parental trauma... found families galore THE found family fic for ATLA is MuffinLance's *Salvage* (found family/accidental child acquisition via political imprisonment) [ATLA fics categorised as gen and sorted by kudos](https://archiveofourown.org/works?commit=Sort+and+Filter&work_search%5Bsort_column%5D=kudos_count&include_work_search%5Bcategory_ids%5D%5B%5D=21&work_search%5Bother_tag_names%5D=&work_search%5Bexcluded_tag_names%5D=&work_search%5Bcrossover%5D=&work_search%5Bcomplete%5D=&work_search%5Bwords_from%5D=&work_search%5Bwords_to%5D=&work_search%5Bdate_from%5D=&work_search%5Bdate_to%5D=&work_search%5Bquery%5D=&work_search%5Blanguage_id%5D=&tag_id=Avatar%3A+The+Last+Airbender)

SALVAGE! 💜💜💜

Gaelfling

I've only watched two episodes of ATLA and I devoured Salvage.

Firelord_Eva

Oml, I left atla a few years ago, but I still go back and reread salvage every few months. All of muffinlance’s works are so good. She’s still writing them too, and her new fic (something badgermoles?) is awesome too even though it’s just barely getting started.

_o0O-EGG-O0o_

Sorry ik this is gonna sound like a stupid question, but what's AO3? I'm new to fanfictions and I keep seeing that mentioned

Front-Pomelo-4367

Archive of Our Own, found at the link I posted It's *the* site for fanfiction these days, since Livejournal went down the drain and fanfiction.net is doing their damndest to follow them. Ad-free, algorithm-free, volunteer-run

_o0O-EGG-O0o_

Oh, alright. Thanks

ParkingSmell8604

Sometimes it takes people a while to get used to the tag system on ao3. Well worth it. For instance, the op asked about platonic relationships, found family. I can go to Starsky & Hutch, where I know that about 40% of the fics are written by authors who hold that the very tight buddy relationship between the two cops was strictly platonic and search either gen fics m/m, which will get me fics where there is no sex on screen but a new or established relationship is assumed Or I can search gen fics exclude m/m, and everything tagged m/m will be hidden Sometimes action adventure or whatever gets tagged Mature or even Explicit (the catagories are G, Teen and up, M and E) for violence when nothing sexual is even implied, so being able to exclude m/m is useful. Although not to me. I ship them hard.

lumimon47

The walking dead is pretty found family focused I’m sure marvel has a lot too but I don’t read much of that at the moment

where_arm_i

Detroit: Become Human has plenty of platonic stories. There's still shipping, but the game itself has a storyline that focuses on a father/son dynamic. There's a lot of feelgood, and somewhat angsty, found family fics.

choerrybullet

Yupp. I loved the dynamic between Connor and Hank in the game. I gotta be honest I was kind of shocked by how many Connor/Hank fics there are, because… well let’s just say that’s not how I interpreted their relationship. Lol.

SenritsuJumpsuit

The fanart of child Conner with Hank dad stays rent free in my head

tooawkwrd

There must be a bunch in Harry Potter!

Miru98

there are! I rarely ever read romance fics in harry potter, the gen category is delightfully enormous

LazyVariation

The Owl House fandom has quite a lot of that. It has a lot of shipping of course but a lot that are tagged with a ship are only tagged because it's a canon ship.

Objective_Ad_9402

I was gonna say The Owl House, seems like you beat me to it Lol

LeatherHog

Criminal minds and captain planet fanfic are great for that

Perpetual__Night

The Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective fandom currently has 527 fics in the Gen category out of 850 total fics, so it might be worth checking out.

AccurateJaney

\[GHOST TRICK MENTIONED\] Yeah I'm a mainly gen-fic reader and I had fun reading through there.

Yotato5

Ayy, Ghost Trick!

friendlyfriends123

oof- sounds like the dream smp fandom, especially with everything going on with the cc’s…sbi found family was my bread and butter, so the recent reveals soured the entire experience (i’ve drifted out of the fandom too ://) but if you’re still looking within mcyt, **hermitcraft** has majority gen fics! **life series** does have more of a romantic skew, but still a sizable about of gen there too. also, agree with what another commenter said about **guardians of the galaxy**—lots of found family over there if you filter for it! plus, if you’re interested in more mcu, there’s a bunch of irondad fics (tony stark & peter parker). another fandom with quite a bit of gen fic is **saiki k**—again, you have to filter for it, but since the main character (saiki kusuo) is aroace, there’s a bunch of fic that focuses on his friendships rather than romance (even if it’s not the majority).

choerrybullet

Yupp, you guessed right. Fun fact: sbi fanfics were literally how I got into the fandom. I never cared much for the cc’s and the canon story, but ugh the fanfics are just soooo good. Thanks for the recommendations!

telluys

I feel this so much. In the beginning, I was very active with everything that was dsmp, but as my interest in the fandom faded, sbi content and fanfics stayed. I was so appreciative that that part of the fandom existed and that it had such a huge focus on the found family/platonic relationships. It was so cool to see the platonic ships beat romance ships in the top 100 popular ships on AO3! It's just something that doesn't really happen :/<3

maiapal

Legend of Zelda, specifically a fan-comic called Linked Universe. The general idea is that the Links from Legend of Zelda games all meet each other and travel together. The fandom has a reputation for not having a lot of ship content as it focuses on the boys as family. Lots of fanfics! The base comic is on tumblr and instagram, but there’s a lot that just take the general idea of “links meet and travel together” and run with it.

choerrybullet

I love linked universe! As a Zelda fan, I was sooooo happy when I discovered that.

SenritsuJumpsuit

I like the characterization some of them get having one the Links get teased for hair color and having Wind Waker question other Links about there logic an be taught by the rest reeeee

alltheplans

mostly actual family rather than found, but most of Thunderbirds fic is focused on family relationships.

Lttle_Tux_Cat

Keeping tabs on this post cause I also love found family and I can't seem to find a fic that’s similar to Matilda. The ending always gets me dehydrated.

Total_Part_3343

I personally love the rangers apprentice, has a good unofficial father son duo

Web_singer

There's a whole site devoted to found family fics between Harry Potter and Severus Snape: https://www.potionsandsnitches.org/fanfiction/ While some fics might have romance, there's very little focus on ships. No rating over teen.

GeorgeGeorgeHarryPip

My peeps! I love the community on this site too.

Web_singer

They were so supportive when I wrote my first longfic. ❤️

GeorgeGeorgeHarryPip

Awwww. So wholesome.

im a huge HUGE hugee fan of found family so when i saw this i knew it had to hop in to take some recs as well as leave some. - one piece is an absolute must, amazing platonic fics out there. - natsumes book of friends has great ones also an author that writes the BEST platonic fics for both of those fandoms and is known for their found family fics in all their fandoms is [taizi](https://archiveofourown.org/users/taizi/pseuds/taizi) check them out they do not disappoint! - ive never been into teenage mutant turtles but it looks like theyd have a lot of found family considering taizi also writes a LOT for the fandom - spiderman fics, especially ones with iron dad. i lovee iron dad and their superhero fam fics - my hero academia with dadzawa or dekusquad.. i have lots of dadzawa fics bookmarked if you need any recs! - finally, and you have to trust me on this, trash of the counts family (tcf). or any k-novel really, like orv or s classes that i raised. the canon novel itself has the best written found family i have ever read in all my 10+ years of being in fandoms, i would argue that the author herself has read a couple fanfics just from how she writes the trope (not in a bad way at all!). an absolute must read, and its easy to read online (hmu if you need a link!). over half of the fandoms fics are platonic because of the canon aspect of it already. i will always recommend tcf and im glad i have another chance to.... please check it out, from one found family connoisseur to another 🤞🏼

choerrybullet

Omg thanks for the author recommendation! I love Natsume Yuujinchou and have been meaning to start One Piece again (once I have time…) so I will definitely check their work out!

New-Blacksmith-9873

OMG. Jojos is full of found family but part five has the most.

Halogien

My Hero Academia: vigilante izuku is chalked full of it "Team 7 as Family" from Naruto Classic Harry Potter with "good slytherins" Batman Spiderman xovers surprising will scratch that itch Percy Jackson is a good place too, it has also starting growing again Star Trek with the Enterprise as family Age old Voltron can do the same if you are willing to brave those waters

choerrybullet

Oof, Voltron. Used to be really into that show back when it aired. While the fandom was a complete mess, the show itself will always be a guilty pleasure of mine haha.

MacaroonFlaky2555

Danny phantom is a phandom that focuses primarily on found family especially if you cross over into the DC universe. as long as you can ignore the more disturbing elements that tend to come with (dissection, child abuse emotional or otherwise, child neglect, etc)

Thecrowfan

Buddy Daddies Owl House

SenritsuJumpsuit

Daddy my buddies in this hooting house

Scared_Note8292

Can I ask what this fandom was?

choerrybullet

Dream smp🤡

ramenisweird

KNEW IT!! sorry im just happy that i’m not the only one who was in love with all the found family fics in that fandom, sucks that it got ruined. also if u want recommendations: guardians of the galaxy has very good found family fanfics!! and marvel as a whole with the irondad & spiderson and og6 as family tags :)

Stargazer_Rose

Hmm, Amphibia, the series was built around found family. Or maybe the Rise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom. The latter has ships but a lot of fics focus on the platonic relationships between the main cast due to the series being More family focused and only having two romantic relationships. (And no they don't involve the turtles or April.)

Popokko

When I was much younger I remember really being into found family in Professor Layton, but those were FFnet days and I’m not sure how many of them crossed over to AO3 (this was also a time when only the first two or three games were out, so…) Found family in Tales of Symphonia (Kratos and Lloyd) was also a fun time, once again FFNet. I’m thinking that Unicorn Overlord can potentially have a lot of this, but the game only came out a few weeks ago and I feel the people who want to explore the characters more are still too busy playing and finishing the game before looking to write (aka me). The only fics there at the moment are smut :(

Yotato5

We might get a resurgence with the new Professor Layton game!

crushedbycrush111

Natsume's Book of Friends has some of my favorite gen content ever. Sometimes a family is a strange boy, his concerned and well-meaning adoptive parents, his school friends, an exorcist, and a yokai cat.

choerrybullet

I love Natsume Yuujinchou so much! Did you know we’re getting a new season this autumn?!

crushedbycrush111

No I didn't but I'm excited!

Emojiobsessor

BBC Ghosts has a super good found family dynamic which is also explored lots in the show. Afraid you’ll have to do some filtering because the canon gay character got touched on a lot in the final season, but there’s still some lovely platonic fics.

Blackout_42

The Murder Drones fandom is unfortunately filled with ships, but there are “some” Found Family fics. Here is a 4 part story that should fit what you’re looking for https://archiveofourown.org/series/2712892 I am also working on a fic that crosses Armored Core and Murder Drones and has some elements of a found family. Just be warned that it’s filled to the brim with gratuitous graphic violence and traumatic events, and will eventually have some romance down the line for the MD characters. If that sounds interesting let me know and I’ll share it.

AnafromtheEastCoast

The TV show 9-1-1 has fantastic found family vibes. It is canon, and lots of fics explore different aspects. Two of the main characters are often shipped together, but the whole fire crew is like a family. If you are not super into the romance, there are a lot of non-romantic or pre-relationship fics to read. In particular, the Buck character and Bobby the fire captain have a father-son type relationship.

littlestblackbird

The Last of Us is perfect for found family stories, just filter out any reader-insert romances. cardigains on AO3 has some particularly fantastic fics!

Cassopeia88

Echoing this, tons of fantastic found family.

Objective_Ad_9402

The Owl House was built on found family, so it's definitely a fandom I'd recommend. Ninjago, while it isn't built on it, the main Ninja team consider themselves brothers, and their dynamic pretty much show that. Even the fandom considers it a very found family show. Depending on how you see it, Pokémon can be considered found family, especially the anime side of things when you bring Ash and his traveling companions into the mix. Even the concept of catching a Pokémon can be seen as found family in a way. Amphibia was built on the found family trope just like The Owl House. Horizon Forbidden West gives very big found family vibes with Aloy's companions at the base. Those companions even help her at the end of the game, but they eventually leave the base to prepare their tribes for a bigger threat. Aloy can still visit them in their respective settlements.

Dark-Ice-4794

Honestly when I came to this sub, I was quite surprised that almost everything it about ships and pairings. I'm quite happy that I found a fellow person who also likes found family more than romance.

kenodys

i tend to peek into fandoms im not really part of just to see what goes on, and the recent ones ive noticed that have many found family are batman, ninjago, and tmnt. best of luck!

Darth_Pastry

There’s only 672, but surprisingly [Five Nights at Freddy’s](https://archiveofourown.org/works?work_search%5Bsort_column%5D=revised_at&work_search%5Bother_tag_names%5D=Five+Nights+at+Freddy%27s&work_search%5Bexcluded_tag_names%5D=&work_search%5Bcrossover%5D=&work_search%5Bcomplete%5D=&work_search%5Bwords_from%5D=&work_search%5Bwords_to%5D=&work_search%5Bdate_from%5D=&work_search%5Bdate_to%5D=&work_search%5Bquery%5D=&work_search%5Blanguage_id%5D=&commit=Sort+and+Filter&tag_id=Families+of+Choice ) has a decent amount of found family!

golden_laurels

Hmm, check our Fairy Tail maybe? There are a lot of romance fics still, but the canon story and a lot of fanfiction are centered around found family

wormlieutenant

That's a relatively specific one, but if you're interested in seeing a strained relationship getting mended, Top Gun 2 is the one for you. Some great works on Mav and Rooster reconciling and reconnecting out there.

Firelord_Eva

I mean, ik mha has a *lot* of ship wars and that’s pretty much all you’ll see if you look at fanart and the fandom as a whole on socmed, but the found family and platonic fics you can find are absolute gold imo. There are a lot of them that are gen fics entirely, and even more that just have romance in the background if that’s what you’re after. Atla was my other main fandom, and there was a lot more romance in there that I saw, but there was also more of a found family vibe there than in a few of the other fandoms I’ve dropped by.

Alto_is_a_cloud

The legend of zelda ! There's also a very popular AU where the Links meet (linked universe) and it's all found family and I love it so much ! It takes a bit of time to remember the names of everyone though...

AdhesivenessWhich979

Don't know about specific fandoms, but there's a couple of good specific found family fics I can recommend you. The Syntax of Your Smile for the Owl House is a cute one. Deals with some heavy topics though. Sometimes Labels Fail for Sanders Sides is also super good, although there's a little bit of ship sprinkled in there because two of the characters are married. It's not a major thing in SLF itself although there are some oneshots in the wider Labeled universe that concentrate on ship. However a lot of it concentrates on the found family dynamic. There's also another fic by the same author called Grey Catbird which is also found family; part of a wider universe but okay on its own.

Yotato5

Little Nightmares has a lot of found family fanworks between Six and Mono. Other than that, I'd say that Ted Lasso and Bob's Burgers often focuses on family type stuff.

oska-nais

I think there's a lot of found family dynamics in The Owl House ? I've also seen a lot of romance focused fanfictions, but there seems to be significantly more found family fanfics when compared to other Fandoms I'm into. Like, you'll find a LOT of Lumity or Huntlow fanfictions, but you'll also find a lot of fanfictions focused on the "adoptive siblings vibes" between Hunter and Luz. Or Hunter being adopted by various characters. Or between Luz and the people she considers her second family. Or between Vee and Camila (Camila basically adopted Vee as her daughter).

AnaraliaThielle

I'm not sure about fandoms specifically, but I have a fic I'm working on that has a focus on found family and specifically an intense platonic relationship between the two MCs. There is some romance involving one MC but it's not the focus of the story. It's for the Harry Potter fandom.

creampiebuni

Most fandoms will always be heavily focused on shipsx maybe just filter out anything other than gen fic?

Outside-Currency-462

Batman aka Batfam, I love them so much, the epitome of found crazy family. MCU focusing on Peter Parker and the Avengers as his adopted uncles and aunts, its adorable. Only other thing I've read with a decent amount is Ninjago, the team is very found family though its not perhaps the main focus of the fandom. Sure there's some good ones though. Out of them I'd say Batfam is easiest to get into. You don't technically need to have any prior knowledge for either but Batfam is easiest, look up the main character's and go from there as you discover all the wonderfully angsty things that happened to them and get all the hurt/comfort fics lol. MCU you just need like, Civil War and Spiderman Homecoming, and that's pretty much all the basis. Ninjago you would want to watch the whole show, but it is an awesome show. But if you want more background for Batfam then tv shows like Young Justice gives you a baseline and also that's got a found family vibe a lot of the time. And some individual movies like Under the Red Hood and Son of Batman get you up to speed on the basics of the family drama. Oh and Wayne Family Adventures! It's on webtoon and is completely free to read and it's literally so so found family it's adorable. It's like a Batfam fanfiction just made by DC. So there you go, some non fanfiction options as well since DC has a good amount of found family and amazing animation. Sorry I just ended up rambling lol, I'm obsessed with Batfam rn.

quizzically_quiet

My Hero Academia was already mentioned but I'll add another of its relationships. In addition to Dadzawa, I can also wholeheartedly recommend Dadmight as well! It's pretty much exclusively what I've been reading for 4 years.

CapableSalamander910

Well, this isn’t exactly found family due to the main characters being family, but The Umbrella Academy. TUA is about superhero siblings coming together after drifting apart from a childhood of abuse. Yes, there is a bit of shipping, but 7 out of the top 10 relationships on AO3 are platonic.

HancocksBitch

Stranger Things, especially Stobin or Steddie (Steve + Robin, Steve/Eddie).

Subject-Gur6957

Batman One Piece My main one lately is the DSMP- especially the SBI group- Tommy, Wilbur, Technoblade and Phil. It's mainly the story character versions of the streamers that are used but some fics use the real streamers'personalities if you like RPF as well. There's a wide range as well from fluff to angst. Some of my favourite fics for this group is either adoption / foster care fics or  reconciliation fics especially as in canon Tommy has been left behind and is on his own. I'm also a fan of possessive characters either platonic or romantically. And SBI has alot of fics on the possessive platonic side.

magedidelphi

I feel ya, I prefer gen fics and tend to avoid romance fics most of the time, possibly bc in part I am very aroace or just more interested in platonic relationships. Ironically a lot of the fandoms I find gen fics in have a lot of romance and shipfics, but if you can filter them out its worth it for the platonic gems hehe. Those include Fire Emblem Three Houses, Genshin Impact, Breath of the Wild etc For fandoms that actually have focus on family/friendship/platonic relationships, I would say Owl House, Pokemon and Steven Universe!

damnsinead

Chainsaw man - Surprising amount of fanfics is focused on 'Hayakawa family.'

MalikhainPinay

I assume Spy x Family would have that.
