A dude gets possessed by a dragon and there aren’t nearly as many fics about it as you’d think, and most of the ones that exist don’t take it as far as it could go. Either that or I’m just bad at searching.

hungryfictions

immediately knew this was about estinien lol.

_jammerific

Strangely mine is related to a character being possessed by a dragon too!

prosegamer

Oooh, what fandom?

_jammerific

the Grishaverse!

shapedbydreams

Which fandom is this?

prosegamer

FFXIV. The Heavensward expansion, specifically.

New-Blacksmith-9873

Stand porn:(

Hadespuppy

That's actually really surprising.

justacatlover23

I'm surprised there aren't more time travel fics in Deep Space 9, considering there are some pretty significant time travel episodes. Same with Mirror Universe episodes, but I might not be looking in the right places for those ones.

Kaurifish

There have to be a trove of naughty fics featuring The Intendant (Mirror Kira)

AMN1F

I'm always surprised when there aren't a lot of time travel fics 😭. I love them

raviary

The Magnus Archives fandom really doesn't do enough with the whole body hopping via eyes thing. Could do body sharing, even.

YetiBettyFoufetti

I think it's because The Stranger skin stealing is more flexible and blurs the line of identity. That I've seen several fics about.

jalwaysawake

A bunch of people are forced into a competition show on a whole other world however the host guy who is keeping them captive disappears for seven months. Through those seven months the characters stuck in the competition build basically a tiny society with a little hut, a way to count time, etc. I'm surprised that the fandom doesn't do more with this part even if we don't see much of it

BabyCharmanderK

I know EXACTLY what fandom you're talking about and it's wild that there's not much exploring that?

jalwaysawake

EXACTLY! I want to see the mini society on the plane!!! Most of the characters seem really close with a few exceptions and I want to see the fandom exploring that

Phantom9587

There not enough of Asta x Harem fanfic

lunachappell

Agreed I will always take more harem fics

BadAtNamesAndFaces

Frozen II: a bunch of Arendelle soldiers (possibly a mix of actual Arendellians and mercenaries) are trapped for 35 years with the Northuldra, and when we meet them in the movie there seems to be an uneasy truce. Practically free real estate as far as fanfic goes, and so many possibilities. Were there other groups of Northuldra we didn't see also trapped? Did some of the Arendellians "go native"? What influence did the two implied leaders of the groups have over the relations? (And did they have something going on?)

nightcoreangst

Good Ganondorf. I love the idea of Link, Zelda, and Ganon being friends and growing up together. With the whole role-reversal concept, I’m surprised more writers don’t explore it. People seem to stick to the classic Link and Zelda are heroes and Ganon is evil structure most often.

KogarashiKaze

I've seen a few comics along this vein, but yeah, not enough material playing around with this particular idea.

_jammerific

Yes! There's a few (I've written two myself, even) but it feels like there should be way more

SenritsuJumpsuit

Two children one boy, one girl who share a body with a women who once fought alongside with the sadistic antagonist and the children's father figure is a cat warrior who is married to a Witch there is virtually nothing using these aspects together an virtually nothing for the children at all big sad Blazblue

CrescentCrossbow

The main cast permanently gave up their humanity in episode 45 and there's Basically Fucking Nothing exploring the ramifications of that (except some of my WIPs, which are stuck in drafts hell).

_jammerific

The later grishaverse books have one character claiming an amplifier (magic power up) from another by killing him, and taking him along for the ride / being able to talk to him in her head afterwards.  Given that in the original trilogy the Darkling is an amplifier and Alina kills him, I'm genuinely surprised I've not seen any other fics with the idea of this happening to them. I wrote one the other day but it feels like there should be more!

poplarbear

Accomplice AU for Persona 5. Erwin Smith lives past RTS for Attack on Titan.

justaheatattack

two words. brainswitch machine.

trashconverters

I’m planning on changing this but the way there’s no fics in The Newsreader tag where Helen and Dale DO put their keys in the bowl when Gerry and Carla ask.

errant_night

I could be wrong because I haven't read a lot of Star Wars fic recently but I was super into it for a really long time and there were remarkably few Empire Strikes Back fics where Darth Vader just Force grabs Luke when he tries to jump. I remember a handful of fairly good fics of him capturing him during the fight but not as many as you'd think.

TheLigerCat

Oh boy, pretty much everything lmao. Time travel is a huge part of Evil Dead lore yet there's barely any time travel fics. Lack of Marvel crossovers when we've literally been handed the unresolved plot point of Ash fighting werewolf versions of the Avengers, or fics touching on any of the other 100s of unresolved plot points and one-off lines that don't get expanded on (like Ash getting stranded in ancient Greece for a while) from the comics. I could go on for a while here...

ParanoidDrone

Skyrim. When you sneak into the Thalmor Embassy in search of a lead on where the dragons are coming from, you can find a dossier they compiled on Ulfric Stormcloak, the leader of the rebellion against the Empire. The dossier makes it clear that they consider him an asset -- he's not a spy or a deep cover agent or anything like that, but they've been manipulating him for years. There's also a very telling paragraph at the end where they explicitly state that they're doing everything possible to prolong the civil war so as to weaken all the factions involved. Later in the game, if the civil war has not yet been resolved, you have to host a peace conference between the Empire and the Stormcloaks to negotiate a temporary ceasefire while you deal with the dragon problem. As far as I can tell, there are _no_ fics that explore the possible fallout of the Dragonborn deciding to hand over this dossier. (It's not an option in the game, but since when has that ever stopped fanfic writers?)

BabyCharmanderK

In my current main fandom, there's a scene where a villain tortures one character and multiple other characters are also implied to be tortured. (It's partially played as a joke, partially serious, as is the nature of the source material.) I was shocked at how FEW fanfics explore this. Like, really??? That's perfect whump/angst/h/c material!! (I mean, granted, there's also some other scenes around the same time that the fandom ABSOLUTELY uses for angst fic, as they should, but really? Not the torture part?) Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...

Inmortal27UQ

Harry Potter. The international statute of secrecy is broken. (Although this idea is a trope that can be applied to several series). Basically that there is a magical, alien or supernatural world hidden from the eyes of the world. There is a group interested in keeping the two worlds separate, but they fail and the world goes crazy when normal people discover that they have lived deceived all their lives.

Fickle_Stills

On TvTropes it's called "the masquerade" And I agree, you'd think that would be such an obvious thing to write about, but I barely see it. My favorite fic that uses that concept is called Beyond the Curtain by bobika - it's a dystopian Voldemort wins AU and sadly, I have a hard time actually recommending it because it's incomplete and has ***the most evil*** cliffhanger. So be warned going in if you choose to search for and read it 😹

ShadeofEchoes

There's a particular ship in a fandom I'm loosely involved with that has a lot less content than I expected, all things considered. For context, two characters are sharing a body and get into a love triangle sort of thing with two other characters (one or more of which are honestly kind of mid or outright trash, but that's the power of ~~love~~horny), and they seem to get very close to each other (the pair in one body) by the end of the story, so I'm astonished that there isn't more pairing them, especially because another of the author's works has a *substantial* amount of queer shipping in its fandom, despite the complete absence of queer relationships in either canon. There's also another character who basically tries to stalk that pair for like half the book; they think she's a total jerk, but I'm a little surprised that there's basically nothing *at all* about her as a major character, and no shipping based on that hatred.

NightLillith

In Naruto, we have it dropped on us around the mid-point of the second series that Samurai exist. You'd think that there would be TONS of fic going on about how Samurai have managed to stay relevant/in existence with Ninjas running around. You'd be wrong. You'd also think that a character who got done dirty regarding her deets would get expanded upon, considering one of her THREE traits is "uses a shit-ton of weapons" (The other two are "Is a girl" and "has a crush on her team-mate". The Epilogue adds "Owns a weapons shop" and "Isn't Metal Lee's mother" to that list). You'd think that there would be fic of her trying to work out how to become a Ninja/Samurai multiclass or hinting at her coming from a samurai background. Again, you'd be wrong.

OpalFeather360

There's this whole thing about a guy who uses magic to transform characters against their will; changing their bodies, erasing their memories, altering their personalities, etc, and it's never actually specified how many times he's done it. I NEVER see it come up in fics, surprisingly

KogarashiKaze

The main character suffers from a form of lycanthropy in one of the games, and also the (canceled) comics. I don't see nearly enough material playing around with what-if scenarios for this, especially trying to adapt the same lycanthropy into *other* branches of the (rather expansive and somewhat multiversal) franchise.

TheAlmandineWriter

As a long time fan of the Legend of Zelda series, I’m slightly disappointed that not enough writers are experimenting and adding in lore for the Zonai (who are ironically known to be mysterious in how their culture was or how exactly their kind dwindled in the ancient past of Hyrule). It’s a brand new race in the series and I really want to see some fics!

JanetKWallace

There is a moment in Final Fantasy IX's Disc 2 where the characters are reunited in Alexandria Castle after a series of events. You don't get to see or hear anything about Steiner, Freya and Beatrix until the beginning of Disc 3, and I feel this is such an unexplored area for character development in the game and in fanfiction as well.

SSS_Tempest

I write for the anime Ranma 1/2. Not the main conflict but, the protagonist is in a situation where if he doesn't appear 'manly' he'll have to commit seppuku. One problem: He has ailurophobia/fear of cats. Its often just used as a quick 'kryptonite' esque gag, but neither the series itself or any fanfics I've seen have ever really done the scneario of keeping that fear underwraps because being afraid of something cute like a cat doesn't appear very 'manly'.

Grouchy_Athlete_2941

No mommy kink Zutara. Why there's no mommy kink Zutara? I need answers. /hj

nantuckeet

I'm surprised that my fandom doesn't have more pre-series works. There is a very large cast, and in canon, they're all middle-aged, but there are so many relationships that can be explored before canon begins that affect the current-day plot.

ItsukiKurosawa

Imagine a world where there is a cult of magical girls wanting to dominate humanity because many of them are outcasts wanting acceptance and seeking salvation from the horrible fate that befalls magical girls who fall into despair. It is also implicit that they were involved in major historical events. Unfortunately I don't see much of that.
