Good defense or not, not doubling down in the back is not a bad idea imo.
He probably had a different NEW defender at times, and he 100% had Gabriel if he didn't have the other two.
Honestly pretty close, Haaland -> Solanke is affordable and only 16pts less. The leaves you with a team of pretty dependable players who've been top-5/10 picks for their position in the last 2-3 seasons.
I think the key to doing well is avoiding man united players. Saying that, I'll probably swap Watkins for Hojlund next week. But really how often do they appear in the top team like this?
Onana is level on points with Leno and in previous seasons De Gea has been among the top keepers. Meanwhile Rashford/Bruno have both featured in team of the season in recent years.
This season they've struggled to score goals and haven't had a settled back line, but I wouldn't bet against them next season necessarily.
We don't have captain hindsight to help us. Watkins wasn't a good asset last season while rashford was essential.
Same for bowen/martinelli and Foden who wasn't an option last season.
Nah but just replace Saliba with Gusto/Branthwaite and Bowen with Palmer and the rest be fodder and you have decent team that would be probably around top1000 if was set at the beginning of the season.
He played 60 odd minutes in the first 6 games and you’re telling me you didn’t know he would be the highest scoring player in the game from that point onwards???
Leno (4.5)
White (5.5) Saliba (5.0) Trippier (6.5)
Saka (8.5) Son (9.0) Salah (12.5) Foden (7.5) Bowen (7.0)
Watkins (8.0) Haaland (14.0)
Thats 88.0 + bench (Areola 4.0, Archer 4.5, Gusto 4.0, Branthwaite 4.0) = 104.5
Imo something like that would be the best (but who would start with Palmer and Gusto)
Areola (4.0)
Gabriel (5.0) Saliba (5.0) Schar (5.0)
Saka (8.5) Son (9.0) Salah (12.5) Foden (7.5) Palmer (5.0)
Watkins (8.0) Haaland (14.0)
Thats 83.5 + bench (Turner 4.0, Archer 4.5, Gusto 4.0, Branthwaite 4.0) = 100
Would have cost 104.5* at the start of the season and is worth 111.3 now. You can get to affordability by swapping Haaland (154) for Solanke (138) for -16pts.
*Assuming a minimal bench
Seems unlikely. Leno and Onana have 8 clean sheets and are 1st and 2nd for bonus points. Areola only has 4 cleans, but has 2 penalty saves. Pen saves surely the least reproducible trend.
Pickford is only 5 points off, with very nice fixtures and a game in hand over Leno and Areola...
At my GW10 WC it was weirdly obvious that Haaland, Salah, Watkins, Saka and Son would be the core to own for the whole season. Plus either Bowen or Trippier. So far it has worked perfectly.
The Scout highlights the top performing players in Fantasy Premier League after the first 29 Gameweeks of 2023/24.
The team lines up in a 3-5-2 formation, as eight clubs are represented with Arsenal and Manchester City the only sides to have more than a single player included.
**Bernd Leno (Fulham) £4.8m, 105 points**
The Fulham No 1’s many routes to returns have helped him to joint-top spot among goalkeepers with Manchester United’s Andre Onana (£4.8m). Leno has combined eight clean sheets with 13 bonus points and 27 save points to total 105 points.
**Ben White (Arsenal) £5.7m, 119 points**
Back-to-back double-figure returns have taken the Arsenal right-back to the top of the defender standings on 119 points. White has mirrored his attacking output of two goals and five assists from 2022/23, while also collecting 10 clean sheets.
**William Saliba (Arsenal) £5.8m, 112 points**
The Gunners centre-back has risen £0.8m in price since the start of the season, joint-top with Pedro Porro (£5.8m) among defenders. Saliba’s output of two goals, an assist and 11 clean sheets is just one clean sheet shy of his total from the previous campaign.
**Kieran Trippier (Newcastle) £6.7m, 108 points**
Newcastle United’s right-back has scored once and supplied 10 assists, with his 11 attacking returns more than any other defender in Fantasy. Trippier’s 63 key passes and 13 big chances created both rank among the top five players across all positions this season.
**Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) £9.1m, 178 points**
13 goals and 10 assists have taken the Arsenal winger to the top of the midfielder standings on 178 points. Saka's average of 6.6 points per match (ppm) is markedly better than his 5.3ppm from last season, when he recorded his career-high 202 points.
**Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) £13.0m, 168 points**
The Egyptian has 15 goals and nine assists in just 22 appearances, with his average of 7.6ppm more than any other player in Fantasy. Salah has also recorded a league-high eight double-figure hauls in Liverpool’s final season under Jurgen Klopp.
**Son Heung-min (Spurs) £10.1m, 168 points**
Tottenham Hotspur’s South Korean has rediscovered his best form in his first campaign under Ange Postecoglou. Son has 14 goals and eight assists to his name, already surpassing his total of 152 points from the previous campaign.
**Phil Foden (Man City) £8.1m, 160 points**
Man City’s England star has mirrored his 11 goals and seven assists from 2022/23 to claim his career-high score of 160 points. Foden’s improved displays means he has now recorded his best-ever Fantasy score in seven successive seasons.
**Jarrod Bowen (West Ham) £8.0m, 149 points**
A move up front has helped the West Ham United attacker enjoy his most prolific goal scoring season in Fantasy. Bowen’s 14 goals are more than twice his total of six from the previous campaign, with a further three assists helping him to 149 points.
**Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) £9.0m, 187 points**
Aston Villa’s forward is the leading scorer in 2023/24 Fantasy thanks to his all-round style of play. Watkins has been involved in a league-high 31 goals, scoring 16 and assisting a further 15 on his way to 187 points.
**Erling Haaland (Man City) £14.3m, 154 points**
The Norwegian has averaged 6.7ppm to the 6.4ppm of Watkins, producing 18 goals and seven assists in 23 outings. Haaland’s 91 shots, 84 shots in the box, 40 big chances and 42 shots on target are all more than any other player in Fantasy this season.
Would have cost 104.5* at the start of the season and is worth 111.3 now. You can get to affordability by swapping Haaland for Solanke for 16pts.
*Assuming a minimal bench
No-one in that backline has ever been in my team😐
Ha same. Had Gabriel all season and another NEW defender for a long time, but never any of those 3.
I’ve had each of them at least once, apart from Saliba but had Gabriel instead.
That’s absolutely your mistake man
Good defense or not, not doubling down in the back is not a bad idea imo. He probably had a different NEW defender at times, and he 100% had Gabriel if he didn't have the other two.
Every year this feels so predictable and then I proceed to start the season with the likes of Cash, Onana and Fernandes
Onana is joint top lol.
and he is 1 match behind lmao
That’s wild, Areola is also only 1 point behind but from the general feel of this sub I’d thought he was one of the worst playing keepers
Onana has been very good recently but he had a really poor start to the season when many (including myself) started with him in goal
Yes, but we can’t afford the starting lineup shown above.
Honestly pretty close, Haaland -> Solanke is affordable and only 16pts less. The leaves you with a team of pretty dependable players who've been top-5/10 picks for their position in the last 2-3 seasons.
True, currently can get 10/11 by downgrading Trippier and having Muniz as third (bench) striker option which I could live with.
10/11 I could live with but not 9/11
I think the key to doing well is avoiding man united players. Saying that, I'll probably swap Watkins for Hojlund next week. But really how often do they appear in the top team like this?

Last season your team would struggle without Rashford and Shaw. This season I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. How things change
We don't have captain hindsight to help us. Watkins wasn't a good asset last season while rashford was essential. Same for bowen/martinelli and Foden who wasn't an option last season.
so true 😂. it’s always funny seeing people stock on united players and then we start terribly, and i’m saying that as a fan lol.
I had shaw, Rashford and Lisandro in the first match. Ended up at 4 million rank
Was this team affordable at the start of the season?
No
Thought so
Nah but just replace Saliba with Gusto/Branthwaite and Bowen with Palmer and the rest be fodder and you have decent team that would be probably around top1000 if was set at the beginning of the season.
Palmer would be an utterly insane pick at the start of the season.
He played 60 odd minutes in the first 6 games and you’re telling me you didn’t know he would be the highest scoring player in the game from that point onwards???
Leno (4.5) White (5.5) Saliba (5.0) Trippier (6.5) Saka (8.5) Son (9.0) Salah (12.5) Foden (7.5) Bowen (7.0) Watkins (8.0) Haaland (14.0) Thats 88.0 + bench (Areola 4.0, Archer 4.5, Gusto 4.0, Branthwaite 4.0) = 104.5 Imo something like that would be the best (but who would start with Palmer and Gusto) Areola (4.0) Gabriel (5.0) Saliba (5.0) Schar (5.0) Saka (8.5) Son (9.0) Salah (12.5) Foden (7.5) Palmer (5.0) Watkins (8.0) Haaland (14.0) Thats 83.5 + bench (Turner 4.0, Archer 4.5, Gusto 4.0, Branthwaite 4.0) = 100
Also curious

Areola will probably pip Leno at the end of the season. Just my thought anyway

How much did this team cost at the start of the season?
Everything.
White and Haaland only 2 I’ve had from day 1
Very well played keeping White. Not so smart to hold Haaland this whole time
Nice, my wildcard team, thanks
7 out of 11 in my current squad, let’s hope their form continues.
No Palmer is interesting
He’s 7 points behind Bowen and didn’t start the first 6 games of the season
Oh didn’t know he was that far back seeing how well he’s been doing.
seems so obvious in hindsight lol
never owned trippier, white or leno.
How much did this team cost at the start of the season and now?
I've never owned Bowen, White, Saliva, Trippier and Leno.
I swear I've had bowen for every single one of his 2 pointers
Would have cost 104.5* at the start of the season and is worth 111.3 now. You can get to affordability by swapping Haaland for Solanke for 16pts. *Assuming a minimal bench
Crazy I started with 7 of these players but am sitting at 3.7m overall
7/11, not bad
It's honestly surprising Bowen is there, I've had him for 2 stints and he did fuck all to justify his price. Just bad luck of owning I guess.
King Kai is coming
