If I didn’t know it was his official portrait I would’ve totally thought it’s someone critiquing the monarchy by making a point about all the blood they shed. I’m going to choose to believe someone did this on purpose with that intent 😂
That is literally what I thought this was when I first saw it, that an artist had done a portrait linking the Royal Family with the genocide of imperialism!
LMAO they painted him like a villain in a dystopian novel. This would make a perfect book cover for the story of an evil dictator or something like that
The artists’s dad is a conservative MP which just makes this more fun and juicy to me. He also painted Kevin Spacey as Richard III so he seems like a very subtle, dedicated troll lol.
Currently imagining the artist picking up their brush that's absolutely drenched in this demonic shade of red and snickering with each stroke they make
Someone said in another comment that this artist is the same that created a portrait of GW Bush out of porn images.
Based on that, this feels a little more intentional.
I can almost visualize a video essay down the line revealing how the painter hated him and made this thoroughly anti-royal painting [like this work of Goya](http://Charles IV of Spain and His Family)
I agree with you! I know everyone here is going on about blood, demonic energy, etc, but it’s a great painting. Super interesting, really distinct and anything but staid. I love it.
He shall be known as Charles the bloody and will devour all the children in the kingdom if they misbehave. That was certainly a choice,Why? and what was reason ? Those were my first thoughts. Obviously the artist painted the monarch how he saw him, would love to know the thought process behind the portrait.
From an artist perspective I really dig it, though I wish there was shades of blue/dark blue in there somewhere or in the bg to balance it out. But knowing the BRF history and the ‘love’ people have for C and the royals these days, it’s a big yikes! If it was some other public figure I don’t think people would have bashed it as we are seeing it now. Lol Whoever painted it didn’t read the room or was secretly a royal hater.
Also let's not forget about this:

It’s truly a work of art. No other painting could do the spirit of Charles justice like this one!
King Charles of Mordor, 2024.

Great portrait tbh, there is such contrast between red and his soft face and eyes. Ppl now dunk on it for memes but future generations will appreciate it
https://preview.redd.it/f70apb74gl0d1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4de17528421becb1361f90858fc9f9dc303b57a
The royals really do have the worst PR team that money can buy. How was the scheme and draft not discussed before hand? None of them saw this coming? Really?
Side note, I find the painting, separate from the subject matter, super cool.
The skill level is off the charts, but I agree the red is a (probably unintentional) PR nightmare.
Almost any other color, maybe excluding black/dark grey, would have worked both artistically and publicly.
I think the artist got lost in his vision here and forgot the enduring public purpose that this piece will serve. It absolutely does look like Charles, and some random butterfly, are bathed in blood.
I’m sorry lol, but I think this is a rad painting. Not a flattering one but a great work of art. It’s intriguing and immediately brings up emotion, even if the emotion is negative, and it’s exciting that they made this choice for an official portrait, haha.
I actually like it, idk. I don't think it looks demonic at all, the red comes off as almost hot pink to me.
TBH I like official portraits that reflect the art of the time, not trying to copy Regency era paintings.
Must be all the blood spilt by him and his ancestors that are coming home to roost because they DESTROYED opportunities, lives, communities, cultures that my ancestors were a part of.

This has so much demonic energy. It looks like he is in hell
Portrait of Dorian gray

Charles the Carpathian
I came here to say this. This and the portrait of his head with the river of evil
Glad I’m not the only one. Lol.
It's a representation of the monarchy going down in flames.
I mean……… ![gif](giphy|qN8mwUPAt7gByge3W1)
That was my FIRST REACTION 🤣😂
I assumed bathing in the blood of victims of British colonialism over centuries
Where he's going lol
If it wasn’t for a crusty monarch, I would say it’s badass honestly. But his presence ruins it
this has the same energy as that fucked picture of biden with his flaming birthday cake this past year
Did an anti-monarchist paint this? Because red is a choice here 😂
[удалено]

I’m also choosing to believe this

Omg I love your flair!😂
Thank you!!
If only.
LMAO they painted him like a villain in a dystopian novel. This would make a perfect book cover for the story of an evil dictator or something like that
Jonathan Yeo. Same artist who made a portrait of GW Bush out of porn images
Also, a son of Tim Yeo, a British conservative politician with a history of getting himself in trouble
The artist is Team Sussex.
The artists’s dad is a conservative MP which just makes this more fun and juicy to me. He also painted Kevin Spacey as Richard III so he seems like a very subtle, dedicated troll lol.
I like that theory. The red doesn’t symbolize the blood on the hands of the colonialist monarchy…it represents Harry’s flaming locks of hair.
It’s said you have to say “anti - monarchist” and not “republican” because that term had been tainted by the GOP
I don't know anyone who makes that connection in the UK.
His fantasy come true. He is officially Camilla’s tampon.
Jesus Christ, +1
He did say he wanted to be her tampon so…
Nah, this has me *sobbing* in bed at 2 am. I had to reach for my inhaler. 😭
🤣
I beg your biggest motherfucking PARDON?!?
Oh come on mate, it's still far too early here in the UK for that (actually come to think of it, it's *always* too early for that image)
Would give you Reddit gold if it still existed
This is the best comment in the thread
It that supposed to be blood? I feel like who ever painted it played him and actually hates the Royal family
Currently imagining the artist picking up their brush that's absolutely drenched in this demonic shade of red and snickering with each stroke they make
I can hear this, and it makes me laugh so hard.
Living that tampon dream
![gif](giphy|muPMoA0DeqioNVjbri|downsized)
He did want to be a tampon, after all…
Someone said in another comment that this artist is the same that created a portrait of GW Bush out of porn images. Based on that, this feels a little more intentional.
It's evil looking. That's why I like it.
Yeah I kinda love it but it’s not flattering to him lmao
Yeah its cool as hell but probably won't be my first choice if you want to appear friendly and down to earth.
right? like as a piece of portraiture it fucks so hard but as like a monarch’s official portrait it’s uh…a choice…
Right? It might look evil but at least it’s more interesting than most portraits.
![gif](giphy|yr7n0u3qzO9nG)
Accurate 😂😂
I actually like it as art but this is really going to fuel that niche branch of people that think the royal family eat babies or whatever
I know, I have to say I think this is a beautiful, exciting painting as art! It’s got power, it’s got symbolism, it’s got muscle and intrigue.
https://preview.redd.it/u1kdd2n6ri0d1.jpeg?width=616&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fbaf1369fcd973f4dcd5505dc6e807e879db22e2
*Steals and puts it in my meme bank*
This meme is gonna go hard in the kpoopheads sub, thank you for your service 🫡
Artists have painted more flattering images of Satan
I can almost visualize a video essay down the line revealing how the painter hated him and made this thoroughly anti-royal painting [like this work of Goya](http://Charles IV of Spain and His Family)
This portrait exudes violence.
I’m laughing at the artist’s quotes in the article like oh the painter HATES him
this is so francis bacon
Found the art historian! I think it’s great a choice. People will be talking about this for a while.
I agree with you! I know everyone here is going on about blood, demonic energy, etc, but it’s a great painting. Super interesting, really distinct and anything but staid. I love it.
The fingers need to be more sausage-y
I scrolled down looking for this!
He shall be known as Charles the bloody and will devour all the children in the kingdom if they misbehave. That was certainly a choice,Why? and what was reason ? Those were my first thoughts. Obviously the artist painted the monarch how he saw him, would love to know the thought process behind the portrait.
VIGO THE CARPATHIAN! ![gif](giphy|xT8qBtEHYYkDhGnWPS)
I'm disappointed I had to scroll down for this! (Or is this is a sign that I'm in fact old)
What the actual literal hell am I looking at here Edit: to be clear, I find this to be incredibly based, but jarring as well.
I'm surprised they released this to the public, seems to be clearly anti-royal family
Yes, me too. Do they not see the critique or are they trying to convey they are ok with a not-so-flattering portrait? So many questions
They're just dumb and lack self-awareness.
All the blood his family has on their hand, right, that’s what the red signifies, no?
This is the official portrait from the Palace. So probably not unless a republican (not that kind of Republican) painted it
That was sarcasm 😅
Looks like he's about to pop out of that painting and steal Sigorney Weavers baby.
You win 😅

It looks like an incomplete painting to me, like a red under painting. Which is a layer some artists do before they start off on the actual painting.
That's artist Jonathan Yeo's trademark. Almost all his paintings appear unfinished as well. I like his work.
I actually love the painting. It’s just bizarre that it was officially commissioned by the royal family themselves.
Same energy as this tbh: https://preview.redd.it/3ani8laibj0d1.jpeg?width=1569&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86d5eb9222dbfb4a74c460fa486b9d7c3a39e0a8

OMFG I'm SCREAMING, this was such a jumpscare. How have I never seen this before
What on earth is that
Drenched in Diana’s blood.
Looking a little too much like Little Nicky’s dad
Okay *this* was not a reference I expected to see. A movie I had forgotten existed. I’m not sure how I feel being reminded of it.
It’s truly a work of art. No other painting could do the spirit of Charles justice like this one! King Charles of Mordor, 2024. ![gif](giphy|iqq9NrL4pjAju)

They even kept the SAUSAGE FINGIES.
What in the red wedding. It’s a cool painting though. Too bad he’s in it.
8 feet tall damn I can imagine how much red there is in this painting
yeah I can only guess at the emotional impact pf seeing it in person. it would be visceral. this artist does not like his subject *at all*
My sheets after period sex:
Alexa, play "Hellfire" from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Lol that kinda slaps
What in the masque of the red death is this?
Well this feels a bit ominous
it’s actually blue, but Kate photoshopped it.
Omg it’s like he’s already in hell. I wonder if his soul is trapped in that god forsaken portrait
But did you see the butterfly? Edit: [link to details poof artist and higher resolution versions](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/YD40RTEBTI)
This looks like it should be hung in a room with a blue, yellow, and green version in each of the 4 walls
Honestly it looks pretty dope
I'm SCREAMING how they played down the sausage fingers what even is this
Oh if it isn’t Satan himself
I actually really like it
Reminds me of the Scarlet rot from Elden Ring
YMMV, but I find awful taste but great execution-y? Its striking and vivid. I can't honestly hate it. Its kinda of metal to me.
By just looking at his photo i thought something else...but anyway
Kind of dope
That one random butterfly chilling in hell
He finally became Camilla's tampon
Is this legit?lmao
The royals really do have the worst PR team that money can buy. How was the scheme and draft not discussed before hand? None of them saw this coming? Really? Side note, I find the painting, separate from the subject matter, super cool.
Y’all remember that story about him wanting to be a tampon…..?

This really doesn't help the public forget he wanted to be a tampon for Camilla
Anyone remember when Buzzfeed did that gross “painting with my menstrual blood” video? Never watched it but I imagine this is what it looked like.
It’s giving boss fight
Looks like a poster for a horror film, it’s what he deserves
I’m sorry lol, but I think this is a rad painting. Not a flattering one but a great work of art. It’s intriguing and immediately brings up emotion, even if the emotion is negative, and it’s exciting that they made this choice for an official portrait, haha.
Well they definitely nailed the tampon aspirations accurately here...
lol anyone got any good photoshop ideas for us to put this in?
“this is fine”
I actually like it, idk. I don't think it looks demonic at all, the red comes off as almost hot pink to me. TBH I like official portraits that reflect the art of the time, not trying to copy Regency era paintings.
This has cursed energy. I thought the butterfly was initially decay and rot. There's no way someone who liked him made this portrait.
Who thought this was a good idea 💀💀💀 but also I love it?
This has to be a tampon joke, right? How/why did Charles sign off on this?
It looks like the poster advertising an avant garde production of Titus Andronicus done in a contemporary setting.
If I were a tampon
Painting you find in Dishonored of the nobel you're supposed to assassin looking ass
13 Ghosts vibes.
looks like the evil guy from Ghostbusters 2
It's giving Tywin Lannister.
The artist just randomly throwing out that he thinks Charles is a shit Father though 😂
Interesting... definitely not what I's picture as his style of art
Must be all the blood spilt by him and his ancestors that are coming home to roost because they DESTROYED opportunities, lives, communities, cultures that my ancestors were a part of.
I’m sure I saw this scene many times in True Blood
Genuinely thought it was Tywin Lannister fan art at first
I mean if they wanted us to forget the tampon thing this picture isn’t gonna help
Why do his hands look so dirty. Oh, right...
Someone call the Ghostbusters...
I guess his tampax fantasy finally came true
Awww... his dream to become a tampon came true! Bless his heart!
I can’t decide between it being a tampon reference, the embodiment of colonizer energy, or some combo of the two.
![gif](giphy|fGOjgWRzQkC2sHHnq7) Why the red? I like it but its too much red
Your forgot hair- he now has hair…
if i didn’t hate him so much id say it was an excellent painting
That's fucking awful. I love it.
Bitch thinks he’s Rihanna
