I wouldn't worry too much, everybody has a load of terrible student films at the bottom of their IMDB for exactly the same reason you do, and nobody can remove them šŸ˜‚

harrylarter

I appreciate that haha šŸ˜‚

do0tz

Yep... I've tried for years. They won't take them off. I even have IMDb Pro. They don't care.

Some of the best directors of all time have shitty short films attached to their IMDb (though not by their own admission, I bet) and thatā€™s fine. If anything, it shows growth, if youā€™ve made significant developments since then.

harrylarter

Very true. Just wish I had a tidier IMDb page haha!

You can request it, but good luck. Many times over the years Iā€™ve tried to have credits removed from my IMDb where Iā€™m credited as an actor in a TV show Iā€™ve had nothing to do with. Normally I wouldnā€™t care too much, however with the way IMDb now prioritises ordering of your credits based on the number of credits of a specific role, acting in these episodes is the first to appear, with my actual role of writer / producer beneath that. Every now and again Iā€™ll try and have the credit removed or modified or associated elsewhere, but Iā€™m yet to be successful and have been trying on and off for maybe 10 years now.

Have you tried using the ā€œcontributionā€ feature? Iā€™m just confused because IMDb for most things text-based is like Wikipedia, so if you delete it, it will be deleted. IMDb -> film -> cast -> edit -> correct/delete -> your name -> dropdown: delete -> ā€œcheck these updatesā€ -> if they ask for a reason, give them ā€œnot in showā€ -> submit If you are re-added eventually, Iā€™m confident that it is whoever is doing the data for the show, not IMDb themselves. Iā€™m 99% certain you share the exact same name with an actor out there. If you end up removing all the acting credits, when the person inputting the info chooses your name theyā€™ll get a popup thatā€™s like, ā€œThis person has no previous acting credits, proceed?ā€ which should slow them down. Iā€™ve had to correct and delete IMDb contributions before and have never had issues. The only two things Iā€™ve struggled with were: 1) trying to add a middle name/initial to my friendā€™s profile and 2) trying to remove a photo of myself, which they refuse to do. Otherwise, for anything else, contributing has worked just fine. (Also, since Iā€™ve been kinda bored lately, you can DM your IMDb and which credits are wrong and I can go in and delete them for you)

harrylarter

Damn ten yearsā€¦ thatā€™s rough. Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only one with this issue though! Hopefully IMDb hears our requests one dayā€¦ šŸ˜‚

Good luck. I have three titles on my IMDB profile that aren't even mine. Some songwriter/composer out there has the same name as me, and some dumbass involved with the films tagged my profile instead of the correct one. Not only do I have no idea what the hell these three films are, I'm not even a composer. I went back and forth for multiple times a year for six years with IMDB and, later, Amazon after they acquired IMDB, to get those titles removed. The one time I ever got a response back, it was basically a "fuck off" email that said they'll only fix the problem if somebody involved with these three shitty short films makes the change. IMDB is an awful no-good black hole of bullshit nonsense.

harrylarter

I meant to say I am worried about future employees seeing these films and thinking differently about me!

Bro so many great directors actors producers have random films on their IMDb. It's OK. The rule in Hollywood is you're good as your last film. Just make sure your LAST film and NEXT isn't a film You're embarrassed about.

harrylarter

Thank you I appreciate this! Luckily I am indeed proud of my last film hahaā€¦ šŸ˜‚

boldlikeelijah

You can try saying the credits belong to someone else of the same name and move them to a straw profile. Iā€™ve heard itā€™s hit and miss though.

SpideyFan914

It's nearly impossible. I have some credits on my IMDB page that literally *I didn't do,* and I can't get them removed. But the most annoying one in this stupid web-series where I went on set as a favor, and got conscripted to cameo. Now I have a single acting credit in a project I don't like with this director I'd prefer to have no association with at all. Cannot be removed. Luckily, you have seven new shorts that you're much more proud of, and anyone of note will really only be paying attention to your most recent credits and your most popular credits. Everyone has a bunch of random shitty movies in their IMDB! So no need to stress about it, really.
